I've begun to hate using chrome (and xda because of chrome) because every time I go here, or to Android authority chrome gets some link from somewhere that's always like yourdailytopdealz or some crap and it deletes history of the page I was just on. Its very annoying and I would use another browser but all of my passwords and stuff that I've probably forgotten are in chrome so can anyone help me?

I want to run Google maps and YouTube apps rather than the browser versions, but there is no option I can select like my p1000 had when I clicked a link. Any way to do this? The browser versions suck.

I have no trouble running the apps. In fact, I think it came with the YouTube app installed.

Yes they're both pre-installed it just doesn't goto the app when a YouTube link is pressed, it just plays it in the browser and no choice to use the app instead

I don't have my Tab at work, so I'll check when I get home, but I didn't think that they opened in the browser. Youtube may (I don't remember for certain), but I'm almost certain Google maps does not. Of course, I may have just be oblivious to it, so I'll have to check to be sure.

Have you tried updating or reinstalling the apps from the Marketplace?
Just took a closer look. Maps is a standalone app (I think it was around 30 MB). YouTube doesn't open in the normal browser, but i do think it's possibly just a link that opens the browser with certain functions disabled as it's only 68k, but doesn't have the normal browser menu options.

I don't think I am getting my message across clearly. This is an example. If you install a new browser and then do a Google search, it will then ask you which browser to open up the search with. This is how it is on my p1000 with map links and YouTube links when browsing and pressing links. On the p6200 it is not giving this option. It just runs them inside of the browser.

YouTube is pre-installed and not on the market here with Honeycomb. Maps is up to date and reinstalled. I just think its something usefull that has been removed from Honeycomb. Maybe Google think the web versions are just as good on honeycomb which I would disagree with.

Seems to only be from the browser. If I open a link outside of the browser it gives me the option for the apps..Its odd why they have made it this way.
OK, I did misunderstand you. I see what you're saying now, and I think mine does exactly the same thing. Not sure if there's an option to change that default behavior or not.

Weird. Mine works exactly as it should. When I click on a YouTube link from the Dolphin browser (don't use the stock browser), a pop-up will ask me what I want to open it with and the YouTube app is one of the choices. Same thing with Maps. Maybe it's a browser setting in your tablet? What browser are you using? Or is the problem that you have a non-US tablet model (different stuff set up for international models)?
Yes it's a browser issue, I use stock. I've tried dolphin browser and it works fine with links to external apps.

I update the hosts file, reboot, and ads still show up on all the pages I visit. I'm using Chrome Beta.

Yeah more and more apps are finding ways around adblockers. Mainly now that google has stated that adblockers are breaking their developers TOS so they are giving developers ways around them.

No, but that seems incredibly time-consuming to do that for each individual website.

Yeah, I'm not sure why my eyes missed the developers email on adaway's home page. I'll report the issue.

yes but it is still ads in a mobile app. That is why Google removed ad blockers from the site.
Oh OK. Thanks for letting me know.

The dev apparently doesn't provide support or takes a long time to respond. How do I go about finding a quicker solution to using AdAway?
Do ads still appear in apps and other browsers? And are you using WiFi or Mobile data? Adaway works fine over WiFi for me in Dolphin but for some reason it stopped working on mobile data when I flashed a 4.2.2 ROM on my N4.

You may have figured this out ages ago, but for anyone who finds this by searching like I did, check to see if you have the Bandwidth Management option checked or not, if you do it sends the requests through google so there is no way for adaway to work. Leave it unchecked and it should be fine.
Yeah same in phone still have ads.

I have a Nexus 7 tablet and Adaway is not working for me as well -.-
The hosts-file is filled with the entries made by Adaway, even after a reboot, but somehow my system just ignores it?

Forgot to check how old this thread is, but the problem and fix is right here thanks to steevin. In Chrome beta disable the settings in bandwidth management. You can keep preload pages, but not the setting below that loads pages through Google. Which bypasses where the ads come from. You can either uncheck the setting, or block Google. The choice is obvious.

Thank you ImSteevin!
That solved the issue.
Ps. It's now called Data Saver. Just disable it in Chrome settings.

Great ROM so far but the LineageOS File Manager v3.0.0 is garbage. It displays nothing on my tablet.

Hey everyone I figured out a workaround for the whole Facebook forcing you to use Messenger app. This is for Android only so sorry iOS...
Go to Settings > Security and check Unknown Sources.
This is important because you need to download the apps from the web.
**BTW in case something bad happens to your devices which I'm almost positive nothing will I'm not responsible.**
Okay now delete your Facebook app.
Then go here: http://facebook.en.uptodown.com/android/old
And go all the way down to the bottom of the screen and download the oldest version of Facebook. Install it and sign in.
Now keep installing every version of Facebook from the bottom up and make sure just to click on the messages tab to make sure it works on every version of Facebook. This will let you keep the messaging option in the default app for the newest version! When an update is available I recommend you update from the website rather than the Play Store. Haven't tried it yet because there isn't an update and I don't know if it will still work.
Hope this is useful! Good luck

thanks. Im gonna try that because it really bugs me when they do that. Right now Im focusing on figuring out how to keep my sync settings for my google account from changing on their own all the time. Its driving me mad.
Thanks! I'm sure my friends will be glad to hear this!

I just use Messenger. I've been using it for as long as I've had a smartphone. I'm not afraid of the permissions. Samsung's stock SMS app requires all the same permissions as Messenger and more.

No 3rd party app needed for me, I just went into app mgr, found the Sammy internet and cleared the default. Then was going to click a link hoping it would prompt me to choose Chrome, but when I went in app mgr to check Chrome settings, it was already default...
Why would you get rid of Samsung Internet?
You can use your fingerprint reader or the Iris Scanner (i think) to log in on websites and so on with it, which is a really nice feature. You can't do that with Google Chrome (correct me if i'm wrong on that).
Big Chrome user here but I honestly prefer the UI and the look of the samsung browser. Would definitely switch over to it if I had all my bookmarks and settings synced as easily as Chrome does.

Few Key differences between chrome and Samsung Browser.
Chrome : can easily sync your bookmarks, history across devices and is very convinient.
Samsung Broswer: History and bookmarks are synced under samsung email ( I really hate this and want to sync eith google) but fingerprint login to websites, ad blockers which works like a charm and video assistant which works grest on many anime sites is a big plus for me.
I use chrome on my work and personal laptops but samsung broswer on mobile.

Actually just tried this and it worked surprisingly smooth. I may just end up switching to the Samsung browser now to give it a try.

Google chrome autofill Passwords and that is cross platform if you login.

Thanks for the post Sammy Internet is crazy and glad it's gone, use package disabled. Look at this insanity using sammys 'smooth' brower, never had a ad in years, all rooted up and then this thing pops up using sammysnet!
App I used was called
'Service disabler' and it was free, disabled 48 foul things associated in Sammy net
Letters are bugged on my facebook app, its not bugged all of the time but after like 10 mins of using it gets bugged.
You may have a RAM issue. Facebook is an insanely HUGE app at over 250MB and for nothing really apart from data-mining and spying. It is just a glorified Webkit browser, so there is no need for that much code. Install Facebook Messenger Lite from apkmirror.com as it is only 20MB. Use an actual mobile browser for the Facebook website for posting and such. It may be that your device cannot provide enough resources, or there is a RAM error at the top end so you start getting corrupted fonts as the app uses up more and more memory. Just a guess.
