I am happily running lolipop 5.0.2 but I have an annoying system upgrade notification icon sitting on the status that I can't make go away.
I have software updates set to 'Do not update automatically'
I've tried 3C Toolkit and unchecked the system update service in Google Play Framework as well as Do not display notifications for Google Play Services not neither works.
Any suggestions as to how I can remove the icon and notification please?

reboot after uninstall
Easiest way is to simply install Autostarts off f-droid-(free apk not on play store). It has two options. By name or by action. Using both, disable whatever you want. I uninstall myexperia using Amaze file manager and simply disable updater. Though uninstalling it too wouldn't hurt either.

If the original app was a system app and you installed the music app without root then I believe you should just be able to uninstall the update from the apps settings page and the original system app should reappear since you can not uninstall system apps.

Guess now I have found a reason to want a custom rom on this phone because I want the social media apps gone. I don't use Facebook nor do I plan to so I hope HTC pushes out an update to allow this app to be removed.

Facebook has been a system app as long as I can remember. Really...even my EVO 4G had Facebook installed to the system. Doesn't have to be a custom rom...just root, and an app capable of uninstalling system apps, like Titanium Backup.

If not a system app, I don't see any other reason why the OP can't uninstall...
If you are using a custom rom, there is a strong chance that it is not installed onto the system partition.
Fb is def a system app but just disable it
Anyway to Disable/Uninstall the Mail and Message App without rooting?
You don't need root to disable apps anymore (you need it to uninstall system apps though)
Could always use package disabler to disable both the app and it's associated system components. It doesn't require root but it does require you to remove all your accounts and set them up again (settings > Google)

A screenshot of your App Info page for Facebook would be helpful. Same goes for the OP.

Just install ES File Explorer, go from it to apps, system apps and select System Launcher, properties, it would take you to its settings, uninstall updates and you are good to go..
Just search the app in the setting and uninstall updates, will work for you.

Hi everyone.
Running stock OP6 latest update.
Installed settings app from apk mirror and now the same won't open up instead keeps stopping again and again.
Since it won't open I can't uninstall it.
Anyone has a clue what to do about it?
Thanks in advance.
Edit. Same happening with dialer and contacts app.
Both updated through apk mirror.
Although Camera, Gallery and Files app work perfectly fine.
Anyone with an answer?
How to revert back to previous app version?
Edit : Finally had to reset my device and things settled. Although all my data is gone.
I suppose just too bad for me.
But I'm facing a pesky issue.
The files app shows no data but my gallery is picking up old garbage even after wiping the device clean. (Foolish of me not backing up the data)
PS I used the hard reset if anyone's wondering using the device's stock recovery.
I'll share the screenshot of the same..
Kindly suggest what's wrong with this..
i think u can uninstall app from the app drawer. long press the settings icon , and click uninstall if the options is available. if it isn't , u can re flash the whole rom by dirty flashing it. it shouldn't wipe the data.
As Azhar_Fahry mentioned, you can uninstall an app / app update from app drawer.
1. Tap and hold to get the options
2 (if OP launcer is updated), drag the icon to top (from app drawer) and you can select app info and then uninstall updates.
Alternatively,
You can install Link2SD and uninstall app / app updates from there.

Again system apps can't be uninstalled normally.
Secondly I'm not rooted to used link2SD.
I think need to dirty flash my phone.
System apps cannot be uninstalled if not rooted, but you can uninstall updates installed from play store or any external source. (You can reset the system app(s) to Rom default)
Attaching Scrrenshots - Follow from 1-end, click OK at the end. ( I am showing example of gmail, you can use it for any other systrm app too)
Naming screenshots 1-2-3-4-5 according to steps.
Uninstall updates to the settings app maybe. But if not dirty flashing the ROM will work

Not working since again settings app kept stopping.
Dirty/Fresh Install of Rom it is then
I tried installing YouTube app on my Tecno pouvoir 2 air LB6 from Google play store but failed severally. When I tried installing the apk, package installer detected it as an update to an already existing app and the installation failed.
I searched through the system directory and found YouTube as one of the system app but it was deactivated in someway
Pls does anyone knows how to activate or enable it?
i think you need to delete youtube app and reinstall
I can't delete, it's a system app and I find it hard to root my phone
