Hi guys,
i've finally found a way to really restore the DRM keys on my z3 phone.
now my camera is working fine at low light, and all drm enabled features are working.
the trick : just reinstall the official firmware using sony xperia flashtool (the official one from sony, not the one to flash tft files from Androxyde), and it will reinject some drm keys int the TA partition, these are not your original drm keys, but fresh ones. anyway, it is the only method i've found to restore all the functionnality of my phone after unlocking my bootloader.
you can find sony flashtool here : http://developer.sonymobile.com/downloads/tool/flash-tool-for-xperia-devices/
PS: be warned it wil factory reset your phone, erasing all datas on it except on sdcard (internal memory is wiped too).

Cool but how about Z3 compact and which frimware? kitkat or lollipop?

This does not work.
Read here in the faq from Sony http://developer.sonymobile.com/unlockbootloader/unlock-yourboot-loader/

well, that's strange, sony says it don't restore the keys, but now i've done this, my camera is working back to normal (no noise at low ligh conditions, x-reality mode working and so on)
maybe i'm mistaking, but it seems my phone is back to "original" state.
(Z3 with 5.1.1)

You're right ! That was placebo compared with un unlocked one. Can you delete the post ?

[Q] Any way to Restore DRM files (no backup) on Xperia Z1

I recently unlocked my Sony Xperia Z1 C6902 's Bootloader through official sony procedure but later on, I relocked it using Flashtool but now I'm facing some problems like when I start Screen Mirroring with my Sony Bravia Smart Led with WiFi connection, an error occur saying something like: 'HDCP not supported'. I tried to find a solution for this but unfortunately found no solution except a minor change in wfdconfig.xml file... Through this change, I'm only able to mirror Walkman, movies and Xperia Home, but no other apps or functions. I've seen in many fourms that this is due to unlocking the Bootloader which deletes/modifies DRM and/or other important files. So my question is that is there any way I can solve this problem or any way I can restore or reset DRM file as I'm having no backup of it... Or is it possible to Master Reset/Factory Reset my device so as to reset the DRM files or should I call Xperia Care to solve this problem by any method.
BTW my warranty period is expired. If anybody can give me a solution to run Screen Mirroring without any error?
Any Help would be greatly appriciated.
Bump! Exact same issue here, anyone have any ideas? Close to selling this z1 and buying a Samsung or something
@op did you back up TA partition?

I have installed an incorrect firmware on my Z3

Hello all.
I am having a bit of a nightmare with my 3 day old Z3. I planned to root it and get rid of Sony's OS, I later realised I lost my DRM keys.
So yesterday I followed the guide on this site and managed to get my DRM functionality back, but I think I installed the the incorrect firmware, I am freaking out.
My build before was 23.0.A.2.105 on D6603. I used XperFirm to download a firmware to reinstate my Z3, the only firmware showing up for UK Custom was 23.0.1.A.77.
So that is what my build is now, I am trying hard to get the following firmware posted on another XDA thread as I think this may fix it I hope, the one I want is:
D6603_23.0.A.2.105_Customized_20UK.ftf
When I reinstated the DRM I noticed I am having radio issue with my Z3 I cannot activate WiFi on my Z3, but my DRM functionality is pretty much restored as far as I can tell.
Can anyone tell me where I can get the correct firmware for my device please? I am at my wits end here.
Many thanks!!

Hi there I managed to get the firmware I need from that thread, but unfortunately it did not have the TA partition needed to help recover DRM functionality. But using this did restore my WiFi etc. Any idea where I can get D6603 23.0.A.2.105.ftf with the TA partition or am I able to add this partition to the ftf I downloaded form the thread you mentioned?
Any help would be much appreciated!!
Thanks!!
If your TA partition is lost (with the DRM keys) there's no way to get it back as it is unique for every single device.
Flashing one from another device would probably brick yours.
But you could try to unpack the one you used before and get the TA partition from there, flashing the image through adb as long as there are no DRM keys stored in it.
Your DRM keys are gone for good. Any attempt at restoring them from other sources will lead to a PERMANANT HARD BRICK of your device.
There is a thread to help restore the DRM functionality, its not 100% the same as having the DRM keys, but it is as close as you will get.

Upgrade with locked bootloader or install custom ROM?

Hi! I've decided that I'm going to upgrade my rooted Z3 (D6603) to Lollipop. I currently have a locked bootloader and I'm running Android 4.4.4 (23.0.A.2.93) which I rooted using Giefroot.
Now if I follow this tutorial, I can upgrade without unlocking. However, I'd prefer Stock Xperia at 5.1.1 (since its built for my specific hardware) over Generic. The problem is, there's no US T-Mobile 5.1.1 build for the D6603. The closest two builds are 5.1.1 Generic and 5.0.2 T-Mobile UK. I'm torn between these two options, as I can't seem to find any good list of pros/cons concerning Xperia vs. Generic and 5.0 vs. 5.1.
However, there is a third option I am considering. If I were to unlock my bootloader I could run CM12, which would be much better than both Stock Xperia and Generic IMO. The only issue with that is that I'm confused as to what I would end up loosing. I've backed up my DRM keys, but I don't know what good any of that is going to do for me. I've also seen that I may be able to restore functionality using this, but I'm worried I'd screw everything up, since I fully grasp what I'm doing. I also don't know if I could turn back and re-lock if anything were to go wrong.
So my question is: Which firmware do I flash? And what will I end up having to lose? My three options are as follows:
CyanogenMod 12 (After Unlocking the Bootloader)
Generic, Unbranded Android 5.1.1
Branded (T-Mobile UK) Android 5.0.2
There are NO differences between branded and un-branded Sony stock software. you can flash the "generic" variant (please be sure to match you phone model... d6603 and so on)
you can also update you phone with a flashable zip made of:
a stock sony FTF
Xzdr recovery
Supersu package
To do this you need: PRF creator ; Xperifirm (to download FTF's) ; Flashtool (to make FTF's) ; Xzdr Recovery Flashable package ; Supersu Package.
My experience with CM12 is terrible because you won't get any benefit over stock software, because stock is the most optimized / featured Rom for Z3. with CM12 be prepared to forget the "power on and play"
the "this" mod is a package to restore the features (the magic behind the DRM keys of stock roms only when you have lost your DRM keys. this mod cannot be used on non-Sony based software. DRM keys are lost forever if you do not backup them before bootloader unlock.
Just to verify before I go on with this: I won't need a unlocked bootloader, correct? All the links for Xzdr Recovery I can find state that they will brick a locked bootloader.

D6633 - 5.1.1 to 6.0.1 How to do it the proper way ?

Hey guys,
I have a Z3 dual for almost 1 year, great device, only sad thing about the device is the ****ty 16gb internal storage allthough it costed me a fortune.
Everyday it is ennoying me telling I have reached 75% of it's storage capacity.
So here is the plan :
I am not interested in unlocking the bootloader , nor rooting the device, i only want to go from 5.1.1 to 6.0.1 so i can use a 128gb micro sd as internal storage.
I made a backup of my files with Xperia Companion.
I downloaded Flashtool and with Xperifirm the Russion 6.0.1 update (D6633_Customized RU_1288-7362_23.5.A.0.575_R3D).
With these files I am stuck, I need to create the FTF file, but do I have to include the TA-files that are in this 6.0.1 update ? I don't want to loose my DRM keys so will the update with flashtool make me loose them or is this only possible by unlocking the bootloader ?
Can someone help me with the correct procedure to do this upgrade ?
Thank you in advance,
Regards,
Acryllium
A bad news; Sony has disabled Adoptable Storage on their ROMs, so you cannot use microSD card as internal storage even if you upgraded to 6.0.1.
I know, but Sony didn't disable it, they just left it out of there ROM.
With some adjustments in ADB it would be possible.
More about this matter , you can find here :

Haa, I didn't know that we could enable it through ADB.
Well, in that case, you can just update your firmware with Xperia Companion and do a factory data reset. I think this is probably the safest and easiest way to get a clean firmware.
Or if you prefer Flashtool, just use Xperifirm from within Flashtool to download firmware, and it will automatically make FTF file for you when you closed Xperifirm.
I had tried to follow some guides that told me to manually make FTF which exclude .TA files, but whenever I did that, I ended up with corrupted FTFs and bootloop.
Nowadays, I just use FTF that Flashtool automatically makes for me, and I don't have any problem, my DRM keys are still present and active (just did a security test in Service menu (*#*#7378423#*#*) and it showed no error).
After you have an FTF file in .flashTool\firmwares folder, just flash using Flashmode, choose firmware you want (I assume 23.5.A.0.575 ?), then tick to wipe APPS_LOG and USERDATA and click Flash. Follow some on-screen instructions and you'll have a clean 6.0.1 firmware in about ~10 minutes.
Hey Rc,
Thank you for your help, but my version of Flashtool doesn't seem to generate the FTF file automaticly.
It's version 0.9.22.3, can you tell me what could be wrong ?
Thanks

Just bought a Sony XZ with RomAur v4.3

I'm in Vietnam and bought a Sony XZ, Model Number F8332, on Android 7.0, Baseband 8996-8996.genprodQ-00040-19.
Kernal version; 3.18.31-v01, [email protected]@(hastag)1. Build number RomAur v4.3.
My questions are,
1, can I revert it back to it's original software?( are any warrantys affected?)
2, when I connect it to my laptop and sync to sony's Xperia Companion software, it asks to update to new software, can I go ahead and update or will it mess up?
Anything more than some basic instructions would be way over my head.
Thanks for any help.
You can flash Stock Rom with Flashtool. If you search here, you will find more than enough informations
Your warranty is now gone.
Also, unless you have the TA backup from that specific device you will not be able to restore the TA and therefore you will lose functionality of camera and other DRM issues.
The best advice is to stay on the ROM you have or flash other custom ROMs that enable you to use the DRM fix. This is not possible on a stock ROM.
Also, since the bootloader has been unlocked you will not be able to update OTA or use xperia companion software.
