We always neglect the way we charge our mobiles, it’s very important to equally take care of your phone’s battery along with your phone. So, when it comes to the charging then you will have to ensure that you never overcharge your phone which means that never put your phone for charging over night as this may hamper the battery’s life very badly due to which you may even end up spoiling battery sooner than expected. It hardly takes 3 hours for phone to fully charge, so never charge your phone more than this time.
Also, many of the users tend to charge their phones regularly, like even if battery goes below 50-40% people tend to haste and put the phone up for charging. So unless and until you are going away from the charging point, it’s not a wise decision to charge it way ahead than the battery zeroing point. Make use of the AC chargers rather than using the USB points for charging the phone as basically the USB charging does the trickle charging which is not good for often charging the phone.
All batteries has the Golden color notch pins and with frequent pull outs these notches become loosely fit and are rubbed with the pins which leads to the wear and tear of the contacts and hence it decreases the life of the battery and the effective charging of the device is not passed on to the phone as the contacts in the form of pins gets loosen up. And also last but not the least never make use of the batteries which are not as per the prescribed specification chart which comes along with the phone and always use original batteries which can be purchased from Samsung.
Never put additional sim cards or anything like that in the compartment of the battery as this may cause some serious issue with the battery and may even explode at an extreme situation as every battery generates heat and it requires space to dissipate that heat and if its interrupted then it can be dangerous for batteries.
Unless and until you are not using the actual 3G Service, it’s better to choose the GSM Mode network rather than selecting Dual mode or the WCDMA Mode which drains the battery faster than the GSM mode.
Make sure that you set the brightness of the device to automatic and not to the fullest which is set by default, since it’s a touch screen phone back light should be not more than 15 seconds as that’s more than enough which can be done by going to HOME > MENU > Settings > Display > Brightness and Screen timeout
Make sure that You Tube, music listening, programs which runs in the background including the Sync option along with Bluetooth should be turned off whenever necessary as these too constitutes fair amount of battery drain.
GPS as well as the Camera eats up a lot of battery, so always remember to switch these both off when not in use or necessary and specially when battery is low then it’s advised to not to use these features which can be quickly done by setting the widget shortcut on the home screen itself, touch and hold on the Home Screen in the blank area and not on any app icon and select Widget>Power Control. Add this Widget to your home screen to choose the express settings

Nice post, incredibly informative!
Sent from my Desire HD using XDA Premium App
OP,
WTF - you can't overcharge your battery. The ROM/kernel doesn't allow it. The closer the battery gets to 100% the voltage is decreased further and further. At 100% there is just a small trickle that roughly breaks even with the demand of the phone. Telling people they shouldn't leave their phone plugged in for more than 3 hours is ridiculous. There was just a thread on here a couple of weeks ago where an AT&T employee told someone the same thing, and everyone was making fun of how stupid that advice was.
^+1 !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Sorry, OP. You are passing off bad information.
Thread closed.
I have searched the interwebs high and low for this one, but I haven't found another with this issue.
Phone: One XL, ATT - 4.0.3 - CleanRom 4.1 - 1.85
Was browsing using chrome this morning with my battery at 48%. Right before my eyes it flashed the "0% battery - plug in" alert for a split second before it powered off and literally had no battery.
Furthermore, this seems to have been happening 1-2 times a week for a couple months. I keep waking up in the morning to a phone w/ 0% power, despite going to bed with somewhere between 50-100% charge.
I have also experienced the problem where I hold the phone in my hand and the are a near the antennae/camera gets very warm and my battery drops at almost a percent a second until it's dead. This occurs even with Wi-Fi turned off (which I tested due to "scanning" being the perma-status of wifi when the antennae area got warm).
Coming from every iPhone generation, I really like this phone , but the battery issues are pretty substantial. (worse, dare I say than the annoying death-grip apple tried denying was even real)
---------------
Lastly, each time, the battery meter appropriately reflects the drop of power to 0% from 50%+. I have tried reformatting phone to default RUU, upgraded to 1.85, tried newer Cleanrom, everything, no cigar. If anybody has any advice, I'd really appreciate it. I'd also be happy to provide more info if I can.
Thank You!

Pulling the "I had an iPhone, and it was better" card is pointless, and is only going to win you enemies here.
I'd say close to half the people I know with iPhones have had battery issues, or other severe hardware issues, at some point.
Have you tried flashing a different radio? If there is a reception issue, it can be killing your battery quickly searching for the network, even while connected to WiFi.
Also, posting a screenshot of your battery usage (particulary the "large" battery graph called "History details") for us to look at may be useful to help diagnose the problem.

This pretty much sums up my issue. Guy just went to ATT to replace his.
Also, I'm not pulling the iPhone is better card. It isn't. Period. This phone is amazing and android is vastly superior to iOS. I hate programming in objective C anyway and though the NDK isn't exactly straightforward at least I can run native code. If anything, my complaining about iPhone's crappy hardware problems should gain me praise and camaraderie. I left iPhone and blindly made the leap to an android phone for a reason. "anything has to be better than this (except blackberry o.0)"
Would hate to try and exchange this phone with ATT, given that mine is rooted and unlocked. I'm expecting resistance, and I haven't done my homework to see if I can walk out of ATT with the latest version replacement and still unlock it. Also, I have a tiny chip on the bottom. Don't know if they'll replace it.
Edit: Also, no issues with reception (4g LTE all day). Haven't tried flashing a new radio, but that may help with the second issue. The battery just plummeting to 0% though makes absolutely no sense.

You're right, it doesn't make sense for the actual battery voltage to instantaneously drop like that. Steep line yes, vertical, I don't think its really possible. The vertical drop is likely an incorrect battery meter reading, and the phone correcting itself.
I've seen this once on my phone, and a factory reset cleared it up (never saw it again). Same with at least one other use on here. But the fact that you've flashed some ROMs and ran the RUU should have accomplished the same.
I'd still encourage you to post a screen shot of the battery usage (for several hours of use), as looking at the battery grapsh versus the bars for network signal, awake, etc. might shed some light.

I had hoped a factory reset would solve it for me as well, but once it started happening nothing would stop it I will update the thread the next time it happens then. Just got off the phone with ATT and they'll exchange it if it doesn't have physical damage, but the small chip out of the bottom could possibly deem it out of warranty, in which case they charge the full price of the phone (509$)!

From what other XDA users have posted, I don't think one small ding will void your warranty, if its in good shape otherwise. Its when people try to send a phone in that is pretty beat up, or has a cracked screen or water damage, and want a warranty replacement, that they get denied.
Been having the exact same issue with my Rogers One X recently. The problem comes and goes... I woke up and found it dead twice just like you described. Sometimes it even dropped 20% of battery in a flash second.
I'm on Clean Rom V SP1. Just flashed BeastMode kernel a couple days ago and it's normal so far for two days... Just a note (it might not even be relevant), I had to use flashlight for a longer than usual period once. Not sure if the aggressive draw of battery screwed up the battery's voltage meter and thus causing this issue..

Hope new version of cleanrom works for you. It's a great rom. I haven't used the flashlight beyond turning it on and going "spiffy" and turning it back off, so I doubt that contributed to it. Mine started out every once in a while, then just happened more and more frequently. I don't want to leave my phone charging all night. Think I'm going to try and exchange at ATT today.

Yup, I understand perfectly what it looks like, and I've seen it myself. I want to see a screenshot of the OP's phone, not random other people. In particular, the screen "History details" accessed when you tap the graph, which shows bar graphs for Mobile network signal, Awake time, etc.
It also seems the OP is talking about 2 completely different issues. One is the vertical drop in the %battery graph (which is probably just a metering error). The other is a steep (but not vertical) battery drainage including the phone possibly overheating. I'm more interested to see the screenshot for that case.

Yes, I do mention two issues. The main one I address here is the vertical drop. And the above poster is right, that's exactly what it looks like when the battery dies. If (when) it happens again though I'll include the more detailed graph.
The secondary issue though, some have speculated is a result of the phone losing and then regaining 4g lte signal. Not sure about that one though, as it happens late at night for me. The one night I left my phone in the charger is when I discovered it in the morning. My phone was at 100% charge when I fell asleep, but when I woke it was at 80% and was very warm. It was using more power than the charger was providing, it seems, and that is when I experienced the rapid drop of a percent every second-ish after I took it off the charger. The wi-fi status was also set to "scanning" the entire time the phone was discharging until I rebooted it once it hit 10%. The issue stopped and the phone cooled off. Charged as advertised afterwards.
---Edit
Also, I went to the ATT store and since it was a core store they weren't familiar with exchanges. I got the manager though and had them take a peek at the phone and made certain they noted in my account that it's in good condition (they didn't notice care about the chips, I suppose). Replacement will be here in 6-10 days, but it will be a refurb (which surprised me). Hopefully I won't get two with the same issue.

Could be. The "History details" graph indicates data network strength, as well as dropouts (amongst other things). So that is the one I want to see (not the graph for vertical drop).

I've actually had this issue happen to me about once a week, and I haven't figured it out.
I used to think it was from Google Maps or some rogue app eating battery, but I've really been careful about leaving them running and it still occurs.
I'll also try and grab a battery graph next time, but it literally looks like a complete instantaneous jump from 70% or whatever to 0%.

Not sure if this has anything to do with it, but I have had "auto-brightness" turned off since I made this post and it hasn't happened since. My phone might also have known that I ordered a replacement, so now it's trying to be on its best behavior.

As I've already mentioned, the vertical jump is likely not related to any actual battery usage (such as a rogue app). Its probably just a metering error, and the vertical jump is the meter trying to correct itself. If the issue persists, the only solution that I have seen that helps is a factory reset.

You're probably right. The other possibility is a battery failure... I hope not. I've definitely reset battery stats in recovery but I haven't done a factory reset recently. Next time I flash I will.

I doubt its a battery failure. I'm no expert on batteries or anything. But I would think that it would be impossible for the battery voltage to just drop to zero. Where would all the energy go? It would at least have to be expelled in a burst of heat or go to ground, or something. Conservation of energy says its got to go somewhere, it just can't vanish. That's what leads me to believe its just a metering error, not a real life event.
As for clearing battery stats, it really does nothing. It just clears the stats displayed on the battery usage screen, which also happens when you turn the phone off, or charge it fully. The myth of clearing battery stats was debunked a while ago: http://www.xda-developers.com/android/google-engineer-debunks-myth-wiping-battery-stats-does-not-improve-battery-life/
Either way it's really hard to tell. If it's a battery failure issue, then capacity won't be reliable. In conjunction with a metering problem, then the voltage is not really dropping, it's just reading much lower than it thought it was... which signals the phone to power down.
I'm definitely going to factory reset soon when I flash, and see what happens.

No notifications, no notification icons in status bar, multi touch issue, battery percentage not shown - all these will be fixed (in customs ROMs or by Xiaomi), right?
There will be no notification icons in the status bar i guess because of the notch. Battery percentage is shown in the notification bar when you pull the notification bar down. About the multi touch issue, maybe a software glitch, maybe an update will fix it.
2 Days of ownership. Issues faced so far-
Vertical scrolling anywhere(settings menu, app drawer etc) is not smooth and fluid
Battery percentage indicator is missing unless one pulls down the status bar
Google Keep widget doesn't work. Error says 'App not installed'
Notification icons missing from status bar
I will add to the list as i notice more.
Personally its a great piece of hardware which seems to held back by bad OS design. LineageOS is all it wants!
Concerned about battery
I'm very much concerned about the battery backup of my phone. My POCO's battery drains at a steady rate, during overnight it drained 20% of battery without even using the phone. How much do you guys get?
Phone is really good, from my experience the notch is simply a waste and the curve edges at the bottom makes full-screen video playback pretty bad.

Something is definitely wrong. I drained 2% (not 20%!) last night. You've got to have some sort of background problem or issue, like a rogue app running in the background....
The only real issue i have with poco is no notification icons in status bar. As soon that is sorted i will ne pleased, as for now it is very inconvenient to use phone without it.
2day using poco, so far so good. Only complaint is camera quality could be better (software problem imo). No bad lcd/speaker/battery problem, all is good
Ordered the phone, tempered glass and a case, I hope everything will be ok.

I haven't recharged yesterday, still 40% is remaining. I haven't removed any apps, but I have enabled batter saving from 11 pm to 6am.
I found a bug when earphones are connected to the POCO and if you picked up a call and remove your earphones then it gets automatically on speaker, all sounds come from the main speaker
Dunno if it's this issue is just limited to my unit or all Pocophones have this problem but when I have headphones plugged in there is very noticeable crosstalk between audio out and in (making people on calls able to hear themselves)

Full screen issue - MIUI 10.0
Yesterday I updated my MIUI version to MIUI Global 10.0.4.0. I am having issue with the full screen view. In system navigation if I choose between BUTTONS or FULL SCREEN GESTURES, my screen display is same as that of BUTTONS.
Full screen view is not displayed.
The biggest issue for me is definitely the screen bleeding. I thought only the initial devices had this issue. But even my Poco F1 has this issue which was manufactured in October. I know Xiaomi had released a official statement and claimed only 0.3% devices to be affected by the issue. But I guess they meant to say only 0.3% devices are not affected by the issue (I have seen hundreds of users complaining about this particular issue). Although Xiaomi has asked users to visit the service centres to have the device checked, but I know it's just a waste of time as the main problem is with the quality of LCD panel they have used on the device. And even though I have time to replace the device, but I don't think that will make a difference as the replaced unit may come with the same exact issue (as happened with most of the people who have replaced). I think the best thing is to use a wallpaper that doesn't reflect the screen bleeding that much and get used to it instead of keep thinking about it. After all we are getting more than what we have paid. It's kinda compromise I have to make in exchange for raw power that Poco F1 is offering.

Which earphone do you use? I suggest you not to use an earphone which is made for a specific device (e.g. Samsung earphone). It may damage the 3.5mm port and the device may not understand when you are taking out the earphone.
Hi,
I have a Note 20 Ultra that doesn't see a whole lot of use. I have a few apps on it, mostly stuff for my smart lights and a few other things. I don't run push on anything and the apps that I have on the Note 20 are the same that I had on my old Note 8.
Lately my phone has spent a lot of time sitting because my job gave me a phone that I use pretty much exclusively during the week. I've noticed that in spite of the lack of apps on the phone and the lack of use, I lose somewhere between 15 and 20 percent of the battery per day, with nothing done to it.
I'm at a loss as to what's causing it. I check the battery app in settings and it shows me nothing useful. I have put unused apps to sleep turned on and have added a few apps to the sleeping apps section. I was wondering if there is any non-rooted way to figure out what is causing the battery drain and to fix it.
Before I had this phone, I had a Note 8. That phone was my absolute favorite phone. I loved that phone. It had a great camera, good screen, and in spite of having quite a few more apps on it, it did much better on battery than this Note 20 does. Between the battery suck and the lack of any useful macro on the camera, this ranks near the absolute bottom of the list of my favorite phones. I'm ready to have Verizon turn on my Note 8 and sell this thing on craigslist. I wish that I'd never gotten this thing but as long as I have it, I'd at least try to do something about the battery drain when just sitting on a table doing nothing other than sitting on a table.
When I had some unexplained battery consumption I used Safe Mode which helped.
Put the phone in Safe Mode which disables your downloaded app's but let's your stock app's keep working. If the issues stop then this highlights a downloaded app as the possible issue. Come out of Safe Mode and start deleting your most recent downloaded app's one at a time until it stops. https://www.samsung.com/uk/support/mobile-devices/how-to-start-my-galaxy-device-in-safe-mode/

Thanks. I've never understood why they don't make it easier to identify what apps are causing problems. That battery app is pretty useless. You wouldn't know by looking at it that I was having any problems at all.
The last few years I have a battery drain between 0.7% and 0.8% per hour, when phone "sleeps" next to me during the night. I use free Gsam battery monitor to check. So your daily "use" while sleeping seems normal. 24 times 0.8 equals that. With ca 20%/day
I use Samsung Notes for years and years and it always comes to that average. Wifi, Bluteooth, Radio, and all other possible options left ON.
Switching them all off or airplane mode, makes no difference at all.
