[Completed] Kindle Fire HD 7" unrooted bootloop - XDA Assist

Hello,
My Kindle Fire HD 7" (model # P48WVB4) got stuck in a bootloop. The kindle is used to play games and I am not aware of anything special that was being done at the time this happened. I can get into the kindle menu after typing the kindle password for just a few seconds and it looks normal, and then reboots. We got a fastboot cable which seems to work fine, and displays "Fastboot kindle fire". I can attach it to my desktop computer running Windows XP and updated the drivers such that it properly shows up under devices as "Kindle Fire" -> "Android ADB Interface".
I have installed the ADK onto the desktop and tried running the "adb devices" and "fastboot devices" commands. These say "List of devices attached" but the list is blank; it does not show my device.
Any help would be appreciated.
I would very much like to preserve the game data on this unrooted device. There are a couple games I have been able to back up by finding directories where they live, or saving them to facebook, but there are others which I could not figure out how to back up (perhaps I could if I had rooted the device when I got it).
Thanks

[Q] Kindle Fire ADB issues

I've been trying to root my kindle fire for the last 6 hours now. I keep getting hung up with ADB not finding it. Everyone seems to magically fix it and then disappear without saying how they got it to work, hahaha.
I have tried everything I can find. Set the .inf file, set drivers, anything. I get the feeling that I'm missing something really obvious, but I can't figure it out. Any help would be very greatly appreciated, thanks!
Win 32/64 (tried on both)
Kindle Fire 6.2.2
No roots, no nothing
KFU says:
ADB Status: Offline
ADB Rooted: No
Boot Status: Unknown
Right now I need sleep, but please please let me know if you have any suggestions!
I am in the same boat..any luck?
KFU Problem
Does your device manager say "Android Phone" followed by " Android Composite ADB device " below it? Your device manager has to say this ( exactly, not just Android adb device or Android Composite Device) before you can access your KF correctly.
If you don't see the correct Android device showing up then Google this "how-to-install-kindle-fire-adb-usb-driver"
and there should be a good walkthrough as the first search result.
If you do see the correct entry then I'm sorry, I don't have enough experience with that specific problem to help you.
I'm in the same boat, and my kindle is definitely seen as the composite device.

[Q] Rooting Kindle Fire 6.3 >> KFU 0.9.4 or BurritoRoot4??

I've got the same problem as lots of KF rooted user >> the 6.3 update broke my root. My KF 6.2.2 was rooted using BurritoRoot3.
I've been searching the web and found a manual solution using fastboot mode (See "HOW TO Root Amazon Kindle Fire 6.3" http://www.blogotechblog.com/2012/03/how-to-root-amazon-kindle-fire-6-3/). It looks do-able but definitely more involved than some of the pre-scripted rooting tools.
Anyone know if/when some of those tools [i.e., KFU 0.9.4 or BurritoRoot(4?)] will be available?
Does anyone have contact info for the KFU developer --> I'd email them directly and ask.
Alternatively, I found this post on XDA >> "Rooted Kindle Fire 6.3 fixed using Kindle Fire Utility" http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1571622
I don't have KFU installed on my Fire, though. Can it be installed on my Fire since I now have 6.3? If yes, where can I get the steps to do that?
Thanks!
~K
in the same boat. no idea on br4, but i've read quite a few places that KFU 0.9.4. works well. not sure of what steps to take EG 1) temp root 2) perm root 3) flash FFF ..ETC also, do u know if there are .sbf/ruu files to return this thing to stock if something fails? i'll pm if i find more info plz do the same..
Has anyone replied to you yet or have you figured this out? I've got my Fire rooted again & it's running 6.3. I can help you get yours working too.

What's possible on a rooted Fire
And, I've got other stuff working on my Fire that other users were struggling with; such as:
• Swype keyboard
• HBO Go
• Screenshots (w/ app that requires root)
• Wireless printing
• Synched my Google acct to run Gmail & Listen w/o changing the stock launcher
• Have my Verizon Droid Razr broadcasting infrastructure hotspot *w/o* paying Verizon extra $30/mo
• Set up external wireless drive & converted DVDs to watch w/o wireless connection
None of this has taken up much memory - I'm only using about half my app memory space. You probably have much of this working too, but if not, ping me for info. I'm always happy to share.

Tried FBmode to reroot no luck
Hi,
I tried following instructions using fbmode. Got hung up on TWRP boot would not
go to yellow triangle for reboot. Tried running Fire Utility does not work - errors.
How did you reroot yours?
What error did you get when using KFU and what version of KFU are you using? I used KFU 0.9.5 and I realized that on the K Fire, KFU does not install the SuperUser.apk. Try running the most recent version of the KFU, then install the SuperUser.apk manually by sideloading it. That worked for me.
If you are going to run the Fastboot commands youself in a Windows command window, make sure of 2 things >> 1) you are running the commands from the directory where you have ABD installed and 2) that your laptop has recognized your K Fire (when you plugged it into your Laptop, your laptop loaded the K Fire drivers and you can see it as a drive in your Windows explorer). I got stuck in a boot loop with TWRP myself after I'd rooted and it took me a while to get out of it -- after I made sure of those two things above, the commands worked perfectly.
KFU
I was using the older 9.4 version - will give the new version a try.
Thanks,
Leapin
KFU 9.5 Works!
Thanks morgan - 9.5 worked !
KF rooting troubles
Using KFU 9.5.0 I've got my computer recognizing my KF as an android phone but KFU will not see that my KF is connected to my computer. I am eternally stuck in <waiting for device> mode. Any help would be greatly appreciated.
What version of firmware is your Fire running - 6.2.2, 6.3, or 6.3.1? I know that KFU 0.9.5 supports firmware 6.3 and 6.3.1. Not sure if 0.9.5 supports the older 6.2.2. If you're running 6.2.2, you might need to run KFU 0.9.4.
I've gotten stuck at the 'waiting for device' prompt too. In my case, my Fire wasn't showing up as a device in my laptop's device manager. You're certain that your Fire is accessible? Does the Fire screen show the message that it's got a USB connection?
When I've had a problem with KFU, I contacted the developer Vashypooh. Got a really quick response too.
[email protected]
Vashy also monitors this IRC channel and, if online, will answer questions/provide help immediately:
http://chat.andirc.net/?channels=kindlefire
One other question -- are you running KFU from a Windows PC or a Mac? If you're on a Mac, I probably won't be much help -- I'm really more a Windows/Linux kind of gal.

[Q] Cannot make root progress on Kindle Fire- Win XP sees as Android Composite...

Can anyone please help me...?
I'm running Windows XP, using the Kindle Fire Utility, and have installed Android SDK Tools. I'm attempting to root a Kindle Fire running 6.3.1.
I have followed instructions (from here and elsewhere), and while the KFU driver installer would not install the proper drivers, I WAS able to direct Windows to the driver folder and have it install them directly. Afterward, Windows had no problem seeing (in Device Manager) the KF as 'Android Composite ADB Interface', indicating the drivers are correct.
Now the problem. No matter what I do, I can't get ANY of the root systems (KFU or SDK Tools) to see the device when it is connected. Tried to use Fastboot command to change the boot loader to 4002 fastboot mode, but it also hangs on '< waiting for device >'...
I can see the device as a mass storage device in 'My Computer' and can add or delete files from it without issue, but I just can't make any progress rooting this thing without the appropriate programs being able to see it!
I HATE feeling stupid, and this thing is REALLY making me feel like I'M the idiot that can't see what's right in front of his face! Can someone PLEASE light the neon sign that will finally illuminate what my obviously lacking vision refuses to see?? (T_T)
Thank you for taking the time to read all this, and thank you to ANYONE who answers with ANY useful information! I'll be watching, and waiting with baited breath for SOME sort of assistance...

<update> 120 views now, and not even a scathing remark about how much of a moronic noob I am... While waiting, I went to PCWorld, and tried to follow their step-by-step, downloading Firefirefire, fbmode, TWRP, AOKP, and Google Aps for AOKP release 38. Once again, attempted to follow directions, and once again, get one of the dreaded variants 'device not found' when trying to use adb to push the fbmode file to the KF... (T_T)
SOLVED!!
It WAS a driver issue! I would like to say:
Thank you, thank you, THANK YOU!!! To josepho1997!
He posted a link to a set of drivers that was EXACTLY what I needed to get the Kindle to be recognized by root software!
KF is now fully rooted and flashed, and running IceCream Sandwich!!
Sorry I posted this whole thing here, instead of in the Q&A for the Kindle Fire... for some reason, I thought that was where I was, but later noticed otherwise...
To admin: please feel free to delete this whole topic, as it wasn't in the right place to begin with...
Once again, thank you to josepho1997 for his post to themagicm containing the link to the FAR better driver set!!!

Kindle Fire 2nd gen Root and Google play HELP

I am a Noob. I was wondering if anyone can Step by Step help me with downloading all needed files. Step by step help me root and load my Kindle Fire 2 with Google play. I have read some of the threads and youtube vids. But can find certian ones or vids are missing. Thank you if someone has this in step by step process. Noob Out!!!
Re: Kindle Fire 2nd gen Root and Google play HELP
Prerequisites:
A FULL stock Kindle Fire 2nd Gen with latest firmware (10.5.1)
A Windows PC with Kindle Fire ADB drivers
A USB Cable (one should have come with your Kindle Fire device)
Alright! Let's get started!
Unlock your device and do the following:
Pull down the notification bar and go to More>Device and turn on "Allow Installation of Applications from Unknown Sources"
Now go back and go to Security and turn on "Enable ADB"
Double check you're on the latest firmware by going back to Device and going to About
Are you good so far? If so, your device is ready to be rooted!
Now on your computer, Download the file in this post: forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1886460
Now extract the zip file to your desktop in a folder named Root
Connect your USB cable to your computer and then to your Kindle Fire device
Run the RunMe.bat in the Root folder
Make sure your device is unlocked, then press 5 on your keyboard and press Enter
If your device checks out (doesn't have SuperSU installed and its not rooted), then it will show a Restore request on your device, tap Restore My Device
It will say Restore Started and then Restore Finished within 1-2 seconds
Your device will now reboot
Now, before you start freaking out because now your screen is at the lock screen and the Kindle Fire boot logo keeps flashing in the middle of the screen and you cant unlock it, this is normal! It is still rooting your device
It will reboot one more time
If everything went well, then you should be able to unlock your device and see SuperSU installed, meaning your device is now rooted!
Since I'm VERY tired and can barely stay awake right now, the page that tells you how to install Google Play to your Kindle Fire are the androidguys. Thats the one I followed.
Hope this helped,

My command prompt stops saying anything after "*daemon started successfully*"
I've let it wait at that screen for five minutes now. Is that normal?

Make sure your Kindle Fire ADB drivers are installed correctly and that ADB is enabled by going in Settings>Security>Enable ADB on your Kindle Fire device.

Did it work?

Yes, it did. Then I ended up bricking it. If you can help, here's the topic with the info about what happened: forum.xda-developers.com/kindle-fire-hd/fire-2-help/kindle-fire-unbrick-help-t2975569

[Completed] ADB not working

I installed several versions of ADB/Fastboot and drivers for my phone. I have HTC One M8 and Windows 7 x64. I most recently tried "minimal_adb_fastboot_v1.3.1_setup" and it installed without issues but commands don't do anything. For example, "adb devices" and "fastboot devices" return empty results. I also tried running an HTC app but it fails to find the phone. What could I be doing wrong? Btw, the device appears fine in Windows Explorer as HTC6525LVW Media Player and as HTC Sync Manager CD Drive.
I got an email that garrettcorn replied but don't see his reply here. His response was contained in the email and I followed the instructions, which resulted in success. I am now able to run ADB and Fastboot.
I'm not quite sure what you mean cescof. I was just saying "thanks" to "garrettcorn" for his help. Sorry if that seemed ridiculous to you and it disturbed you. I'll try to avoid that in the future.
