[Completed] HTC One M8 - bricked/broken? - XDA Assist

Hello.
I have an HTC M8 which I bought very early and put cyanogenmod on. Found out I could not get Lollipop without returning to stock rom, then get Lollipop update, and then could flash whatever Lollipop rom i wanted. I had no backup and started testing things to flash a stock rom on the phone. Now I don't have any recovery on the phone, and when I try to flash anything using fastboot USB I get "FAILED (Remote: Signature verify fail).
On the fastboot screen on the phone it says:
TAMPERED
RELOCKED
Security Warning
M8_UL PVT SHIP S-ON
HBOOT-3.16.0.0000
etc..
Hope someone can guide me through how to fix this!

Unlocked Bootloader, Bootloop, Device is S-On, Help!

Hi,
My sensation is dead, again.
After I flashed a stock rom and made it S-On the device worked 'till I rebooted it.
Since the reboot - my device stuck in boot loop.
The rom that I flashed before I made it S-On was RUU_Pyramid_HTC_Europe_1.45.401.2_Radio_10.56.9035 .00U_10.14.9035.01_M_.
My device is supercid 11111111.
The bootloader that came with the rom was locked so I unlocked it via htc dev site.
I have tried to flash stock rom once again but it failed.
Error details:
ERROR [155]: UNKNOWN ERROR, The Rom Update Utility cannot update your Android phone, Please get the correct ROM Update Utility and try again.
I have tried flashing three different roms and I keep getting this error above.
I can only enter the HBOOT screen menu and connect the device via fastboot mode.
Please Help Me!

I have tried to flash a rom while the bootloader was unlocked and relocked, but nothing happend.
Hello,
I googled a little , and apparently the only solution is to install the original ROM that came with your phone (good luck finding that) , you can always try to contact your carrier and ask them. I read some different suggestions , but that one was the only one with happy endding.
Good luck , and may the force be with you

Wouldn't this just be one of the stock RUU that is posted in the DEV section?
OP, hope over to the Dev section and one of the Stickies has all of the RUU's for the Sensation and a Guide for flashing the RUU to go back to S-ON and back to Stock.

Hello. So I have an HTC One S on the Telus network. My bootloader is tampered / unlocked. My carrier came out with an update OTA_Ville_U_TELUS_WWE_1.84.661.9-1.70.661.1_release_265425nbzfb5rjuc5cfhg0 that I was able to download but it will not install.

I relocked the bootloader but it just kept restarting into the bootloader, no recovery. I might be missing something but it just won't load into the OS now with it locked. I am using the ville-superboot hack atm...maybe i broke it...
Unfortunately i Cant help you with that issue. But can i ask when you downloaded that file. From I have desperately been looking for a stock os for my telus one s.
NVM: Found your post, Now all i need is an RUU for telus. This might be your issue too. is your rom stock? This is only an update so You probably need to be running the RUU rom.
I have a nandroid backup of the stock rom in a .zip file. I don't know how to make it into an RUU or else I would. I am on a stock rom also. I have it rooted and a custom recovery but I didn't load a custom rom on it. Just use the super.boot method to load the OS. Kinda works like a tethered jailbreak.
did you restore cwm recovery to stock recovery?

OK so for you TELUS subscribers out there, this is for you. I have a nandroid backup of a stock Telus system. This system is on the lasted update from Telus OTA_Ville_U_TELUS_WWE_1.84.661.9-1.70.661.1. The only thing I have done is obviously unlocked the bootloader and flashed custom recovery to make the backup. I have also included a stock boot.img and a stock recovery.img as well as the actual OTA update (don't think it's needed but it's there).
So, if you can get into the bootloader, you can revert back to a stock rom on TELUS with this backup.
I have tested it so I know that it works.
If you have any questions let me know
The link is to my Dropbox and its been shortened so just copy and paste it into your browser - goo.gl/cyDrg -
Cheers!
P.S. Give it about an hour or so to upload. I live in Canada and our upload sucks

If you already have rooted your phone why didn't you make the root permanent? There is no excuse for for not being able to reboot without a PC.
Also, I would suggest not updating by OTA or RUU as it will update the HBoot and you won't be able to flash whatever you want after that.

That was a different issue with the boot.img I was using. That is not the case with this one.
We are you interested in updating via the ota or just making sure your phone is current with everything? You can do either, your best move is to avoid the OTA and do everything manually.
Is there a way to go back to the HBOOT-1.08.0000 if you did do the OTA?

So because I updated I was told that I can't get root access any longer. Well I was bored so I went to htcdev.com and reunlocked my bootloader, flashed recovery-clockwork-touch-5.8.3.1-ville, and flashed TrickDroid_v7.1.0. Let the rom boot into the OS and updated my binarys in SU and they installed fine.
So if you also updated your device OTA and your on TELUS, you are fine...you can still flash custom roms with the new hboot without any issues.
I have added some screenshots
Cheers!
I don't think they showed up in the last post
ota update
Relock bootloader
Reflash stock recovery
Do ota update
Than unlock back
Your done enjoy
no, its the same as you said but before doing OTA run RUU
ota update
Flash back stock recovery
Than relock bootloader
Last remake ota process to install or
Supose to work

Just reflash your unlock code from HTC dev install twrp then flash away
Sent from my HTC One X using Tapatalk 2
Don't panic, this should be an easy fix.
Once you relock, you have to run a ruu or unlock again. But you're trying to run a ruu for older firmware, which is why it's failing.
Just push the unlock token again, and you should be able to boot to recovery. If not, push the recovery image again. I don't recommend CWM, even though it's been ported to this phone. That version of TWRP should work, just confirm that you've got the Evita version.
OK i have unlocked again and re pushed recovery TWRP 2.4.1.0
But I still cant boot into the recovery option..

did you verify you are unlocked now, or did you just assume since you pushed the token again?
Also, are you certain you're using the right version of TWRP and not one for another phone (like the endeavour/Tegra One X)?

Problems installing ROM:

1) unable to mount sdcard
2) assert failed: getprop("ro.product.device")
3) error executing updater binary in zip
Please advise. Thank you for your time.
Note: the device is locked to Rogers. It is currently in bootloop. I do not know what I did but before installing TWRP, the device went in bootloop after unlocking bootloader and it would simply not start. Although, as mentioned I can successfully boot into the recovery and mount the sdcard from there to transfer files to the phone.

Why are you relocked?
Unlock again and update TWRP, then try to flash a ROM again. What ROM(s) are you trying to flash.
Be aware that since you are s-off, you will need to extract boot.img from the ROM you are trying to flash, and manually flash with fastboot. You will need to do this every time you flash a ROM, unless you get s-off.
Also, I don't know why you posted to this old thread. Aside from the OP also having the Rogers version, it has nothing to do with your issue. Should have started your own thread.
I'll just clarify that when Redpoint said you need to update TWRP you should update it to TWRP 2.6, your current version (2.5) is very buggy. Also, he means since you are s-on you need to flash the boot.img, when you get s-off this will no longer be required.

Feeling dumb with this phone

.
Hi ppl!
So, I had a working HTC One S (s4) with Bootloader Unlocked, Root, Stock rom and Custom Recovery all done many years ago. I picked it up because I want to give it to someone in my family and I decided to see how it runs Lineage OS. So I found a LOS Rom, copied it and tried to install it via the latest TWRP. I wiped all, changed Data partition to F2FS and tried to install. But it said I needed Hboot 2.16 and it only has 2.15.
So then I found out to update the Hboot I need S-Off. And apparently every method needs a working Rom which I dont have right now. So I tried to find an old CM rom that runs on Hboot 2.15 but I just cannot install it. I'm just too used to how easy is to modify the Moto X so I was overconfident with the One S. And I cannot remember any of the stuff I did with it to achieve a rooted Stock Rom.
Can someone lend me a hand please?
So I have no idea what's wrong with the phone, but I tried to install CM11 and CM12 which supposedly are hboot 2.15 compatible according to their OPs and yet when restarting I just get a blackscreen after the boot image and nothing happens. What I did wrong?
With S-ON you need to flash the boot.img via fastboot after flashing a rom via TWRP or the phone won't boot.
I got S-OFF with Viper 2.x and Facepalm. Alternatively, you can try CM11 and Rumrunner. Or you get back to stock via a RUU* and root the stock rom with TWRP and SuperSU (not sure which versions are compatible with the old android 4.1). After that you should be able to use Sunshine (costs 25 bucks).
* Check your firmware version with fastboot getvar all (either "version-main" or "main version") and find a RUU with the same version.

Wow, many thanks! Such an easy thing I didnt see posted in all the forums I scourged. Now the phone finally boots.
Btw, I got version-main 3.16.401.10, and I found a RUU for 3.16.401.8 I guess it's ok to use?
You'll need to try. If it was a One M9 then I'd say yes it'll work. However, the One S is so much older and it's been ages since mine was S-ON so I'm not completely sure.
Edit: There won't happen anything bad if it's not the correct RUU. It'll just abort the process before it really starts flashing.
Edit2: I found the needed RUU on AFH. I've been working together with Krocko, in the past. Therefore, I know that he's a reliable source. Boot the phone to fastboot USB mode and flash the file with
Code:
fastboot flash zip PJ40IMG_Ville_U_JB_45_S_HTC_Europe_3.16.401.10_Radio_1.11.50.05.28_10.27.50.08L_release_368741_signed.zip
Check the file's MD5 checksum before you flash so that you can rest assured that it didn't get damaged during the download. The desired value is mentioned on the download page.
Edit3: You'll need to use that command twice. The first try will probably end with error 90 or something like that.

Darn, I can't thank you enough for all the support!
So indeed it failed, but not the Error 9X, rather "FAILED (remote: not allowed)" Google say such error results when the Bootloader is locked but mine is unlocked. And the MD5 is ok.
Code:
writing 'zip'...
(bootloader) adopting the signature contained in this image...
(bootloader) signature checking...

I'm on Windows 10 and the phone is recognized no problem.
So, I'm lost...
EDIT: And CID = HTC__001
Ah, now that you mention it: On the One S the bootloader needs to be locked or relocked for flashing RUUs if the phone is S-ON. My bad. Sorry.
Code:
fastboot oem lock
In addition, flashing RUUs via fastboot (that's what the *.exe versions do, as well) can be a bit tricky and since the One S has no micro SD card slot there's no alternative method...
I don't have a link with instructions at hand that are specific for the One S but I can link you some troubleshooting tips that I posted in the One M9 forum. They're universal and should theoretically be able to help you (if one of the mentioned problems actually is your issue).

Ahhh that explains. Thanks!
One question before I do that though, to unlock it again, do I need the unlock bin file from HTC again?

Yeah, but you'll probably need a new one. At least I had to request a new one whenever I flashed a RUU on my One S.

Perfect, I'll do that then, a thousand thanks for all your help!
