Z3 SD card not recognized after reboot. - Xperia Z3 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

If I start/restart with the SD card inserted. I can not access or see my SD card. sometimes I get SD card damaged please format error after boot.
If i insert the SD card after the phone is booted SD card works fine.
SD card works on other phones/ PC without problem.
SD card works fine if I insert after the boot is completed.
any one having this problem with Lollipop 5.1.1
I have
Z3 Dual D6633 running Lollipop 5.1.1
Locked boot loader.
Rooted XZ dual recovery installed v2.8.21
Full factory reset before any upgrade.
I have Downloaded "D6633_23.4.A.0.546_R4C_Customized BR_1288-7359" lollipop 5.1.1 with XperiFirm_4.7.3
I have used flashtool to create the TFT file.
I used PRFCreator_v0.9 to create prerooted flashable ZIP, and added XZ dual recovery v2.8.21 and "BETA-SuperSU-v2.49" .
I have used TWM to flash the zip.
deleted my davik cache
after the upgrade, do another factory reset.
up to here I have no errors.
I have not kept any apps after the upgrade.
UPDATE UPDATE
for matting the SD cards on the phone and/or on the PC did NOT work for me.
deleting all the files in the /sdcard root did NOT work for me
Reinstalling the XZDualRecovery using windows batch file fixed the problem.
I dont know if the problem is due to PRFCreatorR or the XZDualRecovery flashable zip.
hope this helps to others.
xperia experia z z2 z3 XZDualRecovery SD card SDcard problem disappear reboot boot after PRFCreator prerooted flashable

I have it on 5.0
The way that I solved is deleting all files in root of /sdcard, files that is not on any folder and that I dont put there.

Thanks for the advice. but sadly it did not work
But this did not solve my problem.
I deleted the two files that were in the root of /sdcard. and re start.
on next boot I get
"Android is starting....
optimizing application xxx of xxx"
and the busy donut spinning animation.
and when boot is completed.
"Damaged SD card . SD card is damaged. Try re formatting .."
back to same problem again...

Mmmm so weird.
Try withe the same way with internal and external SD.
Sorry my friend.

ok removed all the files (not in folders) from the root of the internal storage (internal SD) and from the root of the external SD card.
i get the SD card damaged error again.
I have tried this both with 32GB and 64GB cards.
basically i have no idea why these two files are populated again and again but it is not the issue or just it is not the fix.
thanks again.

Try formating, make backup before in your pc, and then push the backup to sdcard...

Sadly i have tried all these already.
My SD cards have been formatted on the xperia and on the PC few times . both SD cards are empty in any way.
cheers

I had the exact same issue, was driving me nuts. I formatted the SD card, deleted everything, Nothing seemed to work!
I fixed it by re-applying XZDualRecovery using the windows application with the SD card Inserted. The issue has happened a number of times to me, luckily not for a while and each time a simple re-apply of XZDualRecovery worked a treat.

same issue here, tried everything, nothing works, i still need to unplug/replug the sdcard to make it work

me to had same problem once, but it works well now after fprmating SD card through PC

i've fixed the issue by reinstalling the "official" sony update and rooted it instead of the prerooted rom i've installed, now everything is working fine, it was not a hardware problem, but a software one.

BUMP. Same issue guys...there seems to be some bug in the software itself...

@unixseb what did you use to root? I am on 5.1.1 i could not find any way to root in 5.1.1 (inclusive of king root) hence I updated using the prerooted.

it's a bit tricky, first i've downloaded the official tft for 5.1.1, installed it completly using flashttol, then i've installed a CM12 recovery to flash supersu with fastboot, and once it is flashed, revert to the official kernel in the tft (reflashed the tft with flashtool, but only the kernel to replace the cm12 recovery, and don't try to boot before replacing it), after all that, i ran a trick to gain system read/write permission.
i've followed the following tutorial, stopping at step 7 :

my camera is working fine, i can't tell for the drm as i don't really care about this, but i think that if you do the steps after step 7, you'll get your drm back.
edit : if you backup your TA partition, you'll be able to restore your drm keys

Can you adb push a file to internal sd when stuck in CWM?

I accidently flashed ARHD full wipe instead of the Lite package and now its wiped all my internal memoery meaning i don't have a rom on the internal sd that i can flash. Is there a way to adb push a rom to my internal sd as im stuck in CWM, or is there any other ways as i can't seem to get my transformer to appear on my laptop, even in apx mode. Need help....
Try reinstalling drivers, there's also a naked driver posted somewhere here that seems to work for some.
Once the TF is recognized ADB push the ROM file to data/media.
If you're up and running I suggest a recvoery that read from the external sd card also.

Give naked drivers one more shot... remove/uninstall/delete all existing drivers... restart you laptop.. unzip naked drivers into a folder, go to device manager and refresh, windows will try to install Asus driver, if you can stop it then do otherwise once its installed go back, right click and select upgrade/update... once this is done you should see 1st image attached. Now turn off your tablet while cable its to the laptop, press power+ volume up buttons together for say 10 secs and u will be in apx mode, laptop will show either installing apx drivers or unknown device found. If windows installs apx driver, again go back to device manager and delete that driver and manually install naked driver and when completed you should see image 2nd image... as you know while in apx mode tablet screen doesn't show much, now run easy flash and select SBK1 or SBK2 so that you can flash recovery, remember flash either rogue recovery of twrp but not cwm 5.x.x.x as it again blocks the access to external memory..... good luck
PS: windows will say "drivers r not safe/digital signatures are missing" or something like that when you try to install universal naked driver, don't worry just continue and finish it.

You could always put the rom on a microsd card, if you don't have a sd reader you could use a smart phone as a huge sd card reader, or if you don't have one, ask a friend.
Thanks for your help sorted it now, managed to get adb working had to mount system and data in CWM and then could push rom to internal sd using quick adb pusher.

I haven't use CWM for a long time, does it support external sd card now or does it still read internal sd only? That's one reason I got away from CWM. In case like the OP, I want a recovery that read from removeable sd card.

Later versions of CWM work with external and internal SD's, TWRP is far better anyway imo.

OK so that was the problem, the data partition was encrypted (now that I think of this it makes sense that it wouldn't mount) anyways, for whatever reason a factory reset from android wouldn't work. I removed the "recovery-from-boot.p" file from my system folder originally so the CWM image would remain in tact.
anyways, I flashed the original recovery over the CWM recovery, preformed a factory wipe (which is the only way to decrypt your phone) then flashed CWM back on and now I can mount the data partition
what a pain in the ass, guess I wont be encrypting the phone any time soon, I wish there was an option to decrypt the drive and then get into recovery....wouldn't have this issue.

Did you really try Odin with correct PIT & repartition with a 3-package firmware? Because that should completely wipe and reformat your phone. The only thing not formatted is /sdcard. But you should be able to format /sdcard from recovery after flashing with Odin.

Finally!!!!
Finally....
The problems i have faced with SGS since upgrade to ICS, i think i can now direct a movie on it "SGS - The Unexpected Journey" who knows some SGS fans might actually love it. Anyways firstly there's credits to be distributed
@CheekyLord: thanks for all the references and suggestions, i didn't know about that dbdata.rfs thanks for letting me know about that and also treating my phone issues as your own
@kasper_h: thanks for all your input and help
@fteller: thanks for making a high quality video so as i can atleast show what i was facing plus for your solutions
Now the real deal, for those having SGS and facing a corrupt internal SDcard can view the video created by fteller here
he has used linux to format the microsd card in my case i used windows app which i will reveal after a recap of my issue.
Firstly a Recap
one fine day while browsing, my phone suddenly switched off, when i turned it on it threw me the dreaded error
after which i didn't know what to do so i simply resetted it and from there on my worst nightmares became a reality, my phone wont boot and simply threw the errors in recovery "error mounting sdcard".
what happened from there on is very much visible in my first post and also the efforts of people credited above in helping me get rid of the problem.
In the video the partitioning is done via linux, so for those who want a windows solutions for formatting and partitioning your sd cards read on
Tools needed
1) MiniTool Partition Wizard Home Edition
2) a Micro SD card 8GB (class 6) or better
3) All in one SD card reader
4) a semi bricked phone like mine
Install the application and connect your Micro SD card via the card reader to your PC
Right click on your SD card drive and click on split, then create a partition of 2048MB as shown in the pic
Right click on the newly created 2GB partition and select format. choose ext4 as shown in the pic
Again right click on it and select modify set partition as primary as highlighted in the pic.
After making the changes make sure that BOTH the partitions are primary and 1 partition is FAT32 while the other is ext4, Click on Apply to initiate formatting and partitioning of your SD card as shown in the pic
when the task is completed it will show the following
Now insert your new SD card in SGS and re flash GB 2.3.6 via ODIN then root it via ODIN.. enjoy note: to continue with ICS you can follow the rest of the video, and if during the tutorial ADB commands and SU is not working for you in replacing "vold.fstab" from emmc to /system/etc and vice versa read on for another workaround
1) Once ICS is installed go to market and download SU and busybox, make sure your binaries are up 2 date.
2) download ES file manager from market
3) open ES file manager> setting>root settings
make sure these options are ticked
4) now browse to /emmc and press and hold vold.fstab and open as text file
make the neccessary changes as shown in the video, then simply copy that file and replace the one in /system/etc, it will throw a pop up "do you wish to overwrite" select yes and reboot your phone
voila now your /sdcard is /emmc
updating my phone to custom ICS roms has been a more of a bane than boon so i would suggest for the tutorial purpose go with the official AOKP ROM, also i was unable to get a thread where i can actually recover my internal SD card so your ROM will be forever synced with SD card, the encryption was a part of ICS build from scratch, Read here to know more about it.
the only conclusive reason i could furnish as to why it happened with my device was that maybe due to the work i was executing on my phone when the charge was extremely low.
here is a direct quote from that article
From the UI, the user selects to encrypt the device. The UI ensures that there is a full charge on the battery, and the AC adapter is plugged in. It does this to make sure there is enough power to finish the encryption process, because if the device runs out of power and shuts down before it has finished encrypting, file data is left in a partially encrypted state, and the device must be factory reset (and all data lost).
Click to collapse
since we have APP2SD for most applications i guess that's what triggered this issue, the encryption process didn't complete due to lack of power
so guys don't browse or play on your SGS powered by ICS or JB when your power is extremely low
caio till next time
Note: just for GAGS you can reproduce the "Encryption unsuccessful" error by simply removing your microSD/SDHC/SDXC card and start the phone
Great you got it solved, and that you also made a nice tutorial for potential future people suffering from the same issue!
nice tutorial

External SD as Internal SD on Photon Q 4G LTE 4.1.2 OTA

I take no credit for this, but I don't see anything on the Photon Q threads here really detailing how to do this or confirming that it works.
From forum xda-developers com showthread.php?t=2229848
Courtesy of ZaYAC-ua (forum xda-developers com member.php?u=2303983)
Mount the external SD in place internal SD.
Option for editing via Root Explorer
Go to the folder "System" to set it right R / W.
Find the file "build.prop" and open it as a text.
Find the line "persist.fuse_sdcard = true" (in the middle of the file)
Change the "true" to "false". It turns out "persist.fuse_sdcard = false"
Save and exit. To turn off the simulation data/media on the internal SD
Go to the folder "/system/etc" and find the file "vold.fstab"
Separates it as text.
Find the line "dev_mount sdcard /storage/sdcard1 auto /devices/platform/msm_sdcc.3/mmc_host"
Change the "1" to "0"
Add the line "dev_mount external /storage/sdcard1 auto /data/media"
Save and exit. Now External SD card is mounted in place internal SD.
Restart.

I've done this to mine and the only side effect so far is the loss of ~4GB of internal memory that didn't swap (if someone could figure that out it'd be nice to have I guess). However, I now have my full 32GB SD card as the "internal SD" instead. There's risk involved here, loss of data if your SD card corrupts being the biggest worry. However I need that space available for apps. The first time it filled up, I knew there was something wrong. I have a little over 3GB of music that I keep locally on my phone because I frequently go out of service areas and 4G isn't quite online here in Detroit just yet.
Some other things
- You need root (I used Motochopper from droidrzr com for simplicity)
- I used AntTek File Explorer from my phone to make the changes. Other methods work, but see post #8 in that thread for exceptions
FIRST DO NOT drag files from phone to PC modify them then place back on phone this corrupts files result no Boot!!
Second ROOT EXPLORER would not modify files no matter what I tried yes I,m aware of RO RW and so on.
Third Download ES FILE EXPLORER Brilliant APP for file access, connecting to your LAN and seamless transfer of files between Phone and PC
oh yes and Editing system files.
- Tested on current OTA 4.1.2, CM users need the other process from that thread.
- I still had to symlink to get Google Play to dump onto my SD card. ROM toolbox pro made that pretty easy with it's shortcut function.
doesn't work on cm10.1
I've done this method since I was using Atrix HD. It will work on any Moto Qualcomm devices with JB 4.1.2. First, you should edit build.prop to turn off data/media. The rest is editing vold.fstab. But,it won't work on any CM10.1 based ROMs coz different mount point of storage. You can use the whole internal as storage for apps and the whole external sdcard as internal sd so that you can have a lot of huge game data.

Correct. But I did not say anything about App2SD.
I stated to use Link2SD, which requires a dual formatted microSD card with both partitions marked as Primary. Link2SD can see the secondary one, and send data from apps, even system apps, to that hidden partion.
Trust me. It works. I am using it now.

I used to use Link2sd on my Motorola Charm. It worked great. But,it can't store game data on SD. Only apk, cache n dalvik which can be linked to SD.

Hmmm...that's odd. I am playing "Waking Mars" and it worked fine on Link2SD. Mine show that
Application file
Davlik-Cache
Library Files
Can all be linked. I would assume, and by looking at the less data usage, that Library files are the main file data that takes up the most space.
But, I'm not an expert.
I think there is a program out that that reverses the external and internal SD card usage. But that might not be a safe solution either.
....i have found better way...search xda for Directory Bind.
I have test it with Re-Volt game (approx 100mb) and it works
Oh, Re-Volt exist for Android too? Great.
Link2SD - Issues from Xperia pro not on Photon Q?

Hi,
on my Sony Xperiy Pro (Android 2.3.4) I used Link2SD for a long time - until I had to reboot the phone some times.
After each rebooting, a lot of important apps were missing, and everything was a big mess. It took me 2 days to get it working again - until the next reboot.
Finally I found out:
Link2SD did a great job with linking DEX-files and apk-files to the third partition. That worked great.
But when rebooting the phone, some weird services of android (or: Sony?) did a kind of cleanup:
All .dex files were created freshly on the small internal partition. Each time this took about 10 to 15 minutes - until this partition run out of space. Then this process seems to have been stopped and the rest of the apps were missing. This problem could not be solved by a simple relinking in Link2SD...
So my question is:
Can I use Link2SD on my Photon Q without having to care for enough space for dex-files on the internal partition? I'm using the original Motorola Android 4.1.2.
Thank you.

@m0han Sir,
This recovery is for you.
stock xolo s005 version, Legand rom, Hive rom
CTR 30, philz 6.57.9 recoveries
4gb sd card
flashed stock s005 using philz
copied script to bin folder using root explorer
changed permission to 775
installed terminal emulator
execute script
backup ok on sd card successful
went to recovery
flased ctr 3
rebooted to recovery
wiped data system chache delvik
sd card1 is internal
sd card 0 is external
restore from sd card 0 selected
reboot ok
everything working fine as normal
all saved changes made - all contacts, sms app data - intact.
legand 8, hive rom - all ok with ctr
Note:-
All backups were taken on external sd card by default (i havnt tried on internal - but it should be same)
restore from philz also works - just rename boot.img to bootimg.img (or copy - paste - rename)
Tried TWRP also but it doesnt detect backup (i havnt tired taking backup in TWRP format).

could be due to backups being stored in different locations, viz., /clockworkmod/backup for cwm-based recoveries and /TWRP/BACKUPS/..... for twrp-based recoveries.
in my case, the script saves backups in /TWRP/BACKUPS/0000000000000000/, whereas twrp v2.8.2.0 recovery saves backups in /TWRP/BACKUPS/Q3000/
twrp v2.8.2.0 looks for backups in the latter. so, it'd be a good idea to copy/move the backups to this location before attempting a restore. this would prevent panic.
i think you should be trying your above tests (backup & restore) with a twrp recovery also. you'll be better placed to carry out more dev work. try onandroid -w :good:

Yes its the location and format of backup.
I personally dont like TWRP much and very happy with philz so havnt tried ur script backup in TWRP format.
TWRP needs newer binaries which gives error in flashing and it does hangs sometimes while rebooting.
When I am doing my porting some zips contains older binaries which gives error in TWRP so i prefer Philz always.
Thank you,

Sir, I already read that post but i havnt faced such a issue in my testing.
I gave the recovery to u for the same if u face any issue as no one else is testing for me.
So many downloads but not even single user is replying about anything-recovery or rom.
For me every recovery worked with the flash bale zip - so i made new thread for it also.

i flashed this zip file and rebooted into ctr v3.0 fine. here's my feedback....
did 2 backups - 1 each into /storage/sdcard0 and /storage/sdcard1. but the backup in /storage/sdcard1 is visible only in recovery.
not seen in my file manager after booting into the os. incidentally, this backup finished in less than the half the time it took for the former.
next, i booted into the os and made 2 backups using the script - one into /sdcard and the other into /storage/sdcard1.
but, on booting into recovery and checking, the former is not seen by the recovery.
not sure whether my above problems are due to using stock kk rom of a clone device and not that of xolo. will check further.
the saving grace is backups in /storage/sdcard0 (made from recovery and using the script) are seen. will try a restore later.
aroma fm works, but, doesn't read the folders/files well. kinda hangs with "please wait ....." msg.
p.s: when rebooting phone, after a bit of a wait, it asks you whether to fix root (/system/xbin/su). i chose 'no'.
@m0han
Sir its cause ur using BQ stock things where the boot.img contains shared sd card.
Please see in data/media folder of internal and external sd card for the backups taken in recovery.
The recovery after flashing/rebooting sees for root permissions of device, if ur device in not rooted/properly rooted it asks for root.

maybe so. i did raise that doubt myself.
/data/media on my device contains 3 folders:1. 0 - internal sd card
2. obb - contains 2 folders (and .nomedia file) - TWRP and clockworkmod - with associated nested folders. but, 'those' backups not seen.
3. legacy - emptythis has not happened in other recoveries. i'm rooted using chainfire's zip file.

Problems after SuperSU update (SD card not detected by Windows etc.)

Hello,
I have had problems after SuperSU update came to my Samsung Galaxy S7 (international version SM-G930F). My phone was rooted and everything worked fine. Then I got a notification that SuperSU needs to be updated. On my previous phones SuperSU updates have succeeded every time so I presumed updating works without a hassle also with S7.
I accepted to update SuperSU and after a while I got a notification that the update was succesful and I was suggested to reboot the phone so I accepted it and after that the problems started.
After reboot I got an error:"Device memory error: the data partition has been corrupted. You need to reset your device to factory defaults. This will erase all your data". I rebooted several times and also pressed Volume down + Home button + Power button (same as removing the battery as there is no possibility to remove the internal battery of S7) but those actions did not help, always same error after the phone started.
I had backups of my files so I made the factory reset as there was no other option on phone screen than "Reset" (after selecting Reset I had to select factory reset in recovery menu).
After that phone started normally but there has occured three problems:
1. When I want to move an application from phone internal storage to my microSDXC card I go to "Applications" -> "Application Manager" and select an application and go to Storage. After that below "Storage used" I select "Change" and select my external microSDXC card as a new storage location and I get an error:"Not enough storage space" although there is a lot of space in both microSDXC card and also internal memory (someone told this can also refer to internal storage). I have tried this with several applications but always the same error. I have not accepted to use Adaptive Storage (and I think that is disabled in S7).
Before SuperSU update+factory reset I was able to normallly move my applications from internal storage to the external storage (and also from external storage back to internal storage). Otherwise memory card works normally and my phone detects it.
2. When I connect my phone S7 to the computer (I have tested with several computers) and I have my microSDXC card in my phone, computer only shows internal storage of my phone, not my microSDCX card. I reformatted microSDXC card (tried both FAT32 and exFAT) but that did not help. I also tried with other memory card that worked fine with other phone (when the other phone is connected to the computer with USB cable both internal and external storage are seen) but same card in S7 did not show in Windows. Reinstalling Samsung S7 USB drivers doesn't help.
3. I cannot root my phone anymore, Odin detects my phone (shows added) but when selecting the required file to AP and clicking Start it goes to Failed status. I downloaded SuperSU and it tells my phone is not rooted.
Any suggestions what to do?

Try using something like Minitool Partition Wizard Free to delete the partitions of the MicroSD card, then create a new primary partition, format to FAT32

Thanks but I think Smartswitch is used when changing to a new phone from the old one. I do not know if reinstalling the firmware would help my problem, could try that also.

Hi i refer to smartswitch (like old Kies) for pc no android apk!
Your Knox is 00 or 01 ?

I updated supersu and the phone is fine. SD card has not had any problems like that.
If you do not have anything that u need on that SD card i would pull it out and format it in windows.
smarthswitch is used to backup data or move data
KNOX 01 means nothing - you can use all tools that samsung has even with a 01
you can always restore your phone no matter what
use can use this guide : http://forum.xda-developers.com/galaxy-s7/how-to/guide-revert-to-stock-anytime-kies-t3396314

i would 1st if you have anything on the sd card that u need try and get it off the sd
if you do not have anything on the sd card then stick it in a windows computer and format it back to fat or what not
I would then restock or reflash a rom on the phone.
If you have a 930 or 935 i would try superman or one of them
and then restup the phone with sim + sd in it again and let the phone format the sd as needed.
