the 'white bezels' Z3 conflict with 'wallpapers' & 'colors' - Xperia Z3 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

hey guys, I'm about to buy a new Z3, but i'm confused about colors,
I really like the white one, but I'm afraid that wallpapers will make a conflict with the white color of the phone , I mean the white bezels of the phone in the white version, will I face color mismatching with 'em among different situations/wallpapers.
so is that right ? if any of you have the white one please tell me about your visual experience,
opinions, people !

Find a white wallpaper that you like. Mess with white balancr in the display settings until you find the most neutral white. Personally I think xperia z3 is far too blue, and given that the blue pixel is the most important in preserving the whiteness of the screen, I find it best to preserve the blue pixel as much as possible. Which is why I turn the red balance almost all the way up and the green balance somewhere around halfway, until I find it's balanced to my liking. This way you get a softer and purer white, whilst retaining the life of the blue pixels. And if you find the right balance, you'll find it also matches your case. Do it indoors in a naturally well lit room, without a room light or lamp. Hope this helps.

ahem, up!

There are plenty of wallpapers out there. Just get the one what fits your color. White is the best as you wont notice any fingerprints where as black is a fingerprint magnet.

Blue Tint

Does anybody else's screen have a blue tint to the white's at any angle other than straight on?
I ask because mine does, and my Fascinate does, but it isn't even really noticeable.
I remember when I got my HTC incredible that some had it worse than others so I'm kind of curious if the Charge I have is an overt anomaly or if I'm just being picky.
i've owned the fascinate, the vibrant and now the charge... they all looked 'bluish' to me... especially when you compared the screens to another phone that is not an amoled.
Engadget mentioned this in their review of the Charge. Disable the auto-brightness setting, and dial it up manually. You should see the blueish tint disappear.
the bluish tint never really goes away .. at least in my experience with 3 different samsungs .. regardless of the brightness setting. turning it up all the way helps but it's definitely still noticeable .. depends on whether or not you can live with it
I'm planning to pick up a Charge this Saturday, and will be going to the store with a list of "concerns" such as this one. If I can reporduce the blue tint and then make it disappear enough to not annoy the hell out of me, I'll be leaving with one.
Luckily I know the salesperson I'm buying it from, so it will not have the OTA installed when he hands it over.
FWIW, I just realized all of my tinting issues were due to the Zagg Invisible Shield I had on it. I realized this after I took the generic brand protector off my Fascinate and realized all the colors popped more.
Yes, OLED/AMOLED/SAMOLED/SAMOLED+ screens have pink or blue tint depending on the angle, but mine was *awful* compared to my Epic 4G, Fascinate, and HTC Incredible.
Zagg screen protector off, Phantom Skin screen protector on...takes a significantly greater angle to cause the degree of tinting issues I was seeing with anything but straight-on.
Much, MUCH happier with the display now
I actually work in the oled industry , the reason you see a blusish tint is because blue lives the shortest. so to avoid degradation and increase efficiency they optimize the screens using blue as the jump point.
although it is a blue tint it by industry standards is called a cool white. when you increase intensity on the screen you see less of this tint because at the higher points the three colors intensity start to create a more pure white.
you must remember OLED compared to other screen technology is in its infancy, we have developed blue molecules that will live longer with better efficiency when you start to see these roll out in the industry more pure whites will be acheived.
You can complain about blue tint all you want but it is by design so there is nothing you can change.....now with voodoo kernels you can adjust this but you run the risk of color degradation more quickly so dont leave static images on your screen as colors will degrade faster than others and you will see "Burn in " if you will
Oh, I totally understand the blue tint to OLED's, and I'm fine with it. No complaints.
But this was *bad*. Even using the phone in my hand, every slight movement was causing it to flicker from pink to blue to warm tones and so the screen itself looked like it was having a film waved in front of it. It was distracting and awful compared to my other OLED-ish devices.
Lo and behold, it was just the screen protector type I was using. No issues with it now.
(I actually prefer cool tones to my displays anyway, so its all good.)
I am comparing 2 Charges side by side and one has a really blue tint and the other has perfect whites. Mine is the one that is really blue. My display is noticeably dimmer then the one without the bluish tint. As much as I hate to do it I might swap it out to see if I get one that does not have the blue tint.
I have used the dock on mine for about 2 weeks nightly. Could have have caused a burn in effect by keeping the clock screen on at night?
Edit: nothing is wrong with the screen. Its only noticeable if you have both right next to each other. If you look at one then the other you really can't even tell. I bought an episode of South Park on media hub and it looks better then my 46 inch Samsung led tv.

[FIX] Inaccurate color on the Skyrocket

Nice screen on the Skyrocket, but the color is off, particularly white. It makes reading an ebook miserable. Fortunately, it's easily fixed.
First go to Settings/Display and uncheck "Auto adjust screen power". (Thanks to Shmegmaking for that tip!) This won't change the color, but will prevent the display going way too dim by itself while reading black text on a white background. it will use extra power though. But if you read text on a white or light gray background it's well worth it.
Second, correct the white balance. It's WAY the heck off. I used an Eye1 Pro Spectrophotometer to measure and correct my Skyrocket's white balance. You can just use my numbers to get the same result. You have to download & Install "Screen Adjuster" by "netman" from the Android Market. Then use these settings:
Red +31
Green +12
Blue +0
Brightness 100%
Contrast -0
Go into options and check "Autorun"
White is dead on with these settings; reds, greens, and blues (the primary colors) are much closer to correct.
EDITED TO ADD:
The main problem with the above settings is that grays are too warm. (Red) the Skyrockets display is not linear so compromises are required. The above settings give perfect whites and very good bright colors. Grays and less saturated colors tend towards red however. The Settings below will get mid level grays and colors to a very good level. Whites and bright colors will be a bit cool (Blue) and dark grays and dark colors will be a bit warm (tend towards red.) But overall, this is as close as you're going to get this phone I think. (Until somebody comes up with an app that allows gray scale calibration.)
Red +24
Green +9
Blue +6
All else the same.
NOTE: they took into account the screens inaccurate color when they did the stock wallpaper, so it doesn't look nearly as good with these settings. Pictures and whites look MUCH better though.
Some people prefer a cooler white for reading. If you use the top numbers, you can try changing Blue to +8 if you find this is the case. (If you use the bottom numbers you should be golden.) Less would be good; if you go too much higher you'll start getting further away from accurate colors. Some e-readers--like cool reader--allow you to adjust the color of the background in the app. That would be preferable to changing the settings I've given for "Screen adjuster". That way your pictures and videos will retain accurate color.
The screen won't be quite as bright with these settings. I think they tuned the screen for maximum brightness in the store, the same as they do with TVs. Kind of like using "Dynamic" mode on a TV, it gives a lot of "Wow" factor at the store, but after using it for a bit you notice the colors are wrong.
EDITED TO IMPROVE MID LEVEL GRAYS
Bump for editing to add mid level gray fix.
Thanks. Pretty slick app

Wow, this is the reason I've been holding off on getting the skyrocket! Glad somebody addressed it. U da man dude! If I can get the browsers whites to look kinda normal then I'm good to go.

These settings are only good for the specific phone your using as everyones is differebt

I'm going to look into this
I think it shows promise but the red push was hurting my white levels too much.
Your whites were too red with this? Which set of numbers were you using? With the top numbers the whites should be dead on, with the bottom numbers white is very much on the blue side. What were you using as a white reference? I've only got the one phone, is it possible that Samsung QC is so off that individual screens vary that much?
With the top numbers, dark gray goes to red too much, with the bottom numbers dark grays should be a bit red, whites should push blue. It's the best compromise I could come up with.
Everything looks completely inaccurate with either set of numbers/settings. I think it really is like someone posted above, where it depends on your individual screen.

That's going to be true regardless. The Skyrocket--and all Galaxy SIIs--are notoriously innacurate with colors. The bottom set of numbers should give you cool whites and warm darks. If you adjust it for accurate darks, white is WAY the hell off. That's the factory setting. If you adjust whites for accuracy, dark grays are WAY red. By adjusting the mid level grays--the bottom numbers--you'll get warm (reddish) grays and cool (bluish) whites. If you read black text on a white background, or read web forums with light gray backgrounds and white text, the factory settings are completely out of left field and unuseable for many. The bottom set of numbers corrects that enough to be pleasant to read with at the expense of reddish dark grays.
What would be great would be if someone made an app that let you adjust the color at different gray levels. Then you could get a far more accurate gray scale calibration.
Came up as not compatible for my device.
Nevermind my density was changed
I wanted to make clear, this isn't my app... I found it on the market and used my spectraphotometer to get the settings is all.

No, my "white levels". ie: the shade of greys & blacks.

Thanks... Yeah I understand calibrating the gray scale, etc... I might have done a few calibrations here and there. The lower range of the gray scale will indeed push red with these numbers. There is currently no way to calibrate the entire gray scale. To get whites (The top end of the gray scale, above 180, 180, 180)) to a reasonable balance, the low end (below 100, 100, 100) is going to push red. If you want more accurate dark grays, (bottom end of the gray scale) your whites (top end of the gray scale) are going to be way, way off. So much off that many folks, myself included, find them intolerable. By calibrating the middle of the gray scale, (127, 127, 127) you get tolerable whites and tolerable dark grays. If you don't care how far your whites and light grays are off, then you should leave it stock. If you want a better compromise for the whole gray scale, the bottom numbers are good.
A proper gray scale calibration would allow at least 4 calibration points, 20 ire, 40 ire, 60 ire, and 80 ire. Without that, and as horribly unlinear the Galaxy S2 variants are, you have to pick one point to calibrate. Stock they pick around 20 ire it seems, so 60 ire and above is ridiculously far off. By picking 60 ire to calibrate, 70 and above is reasonable and 40 ire and below is reasonable, but does push red. It's basically pick your poison. Stock is calibrated for darks, I've given numbers to calibrate for mid level grays and another for whites. Whichever looks best for you is what you should use.
Yeah, I just received my Skyrocket yesterday and I noticed right away the whites are incredibly washed out with a blueish tint and I was worried something was wrong with my phone...I guess it's a universal 'problem' with these devices. It sucks to be honest, but I will live!
This worked great for me. Thank you. Huge improvement.

black background

I don't have to turn the brightness up very bright for a black background to become a sort of blue/grey colour. It's not exactly "my phone is broken" bad but it's noticeable, especially in a dark room. Anyone else noticed this? What have you done about it?

The Z3 is using an IPS screen so the blacks won't be true black like what you get on an amoled. Pixels are not turned off, but rather dimmed. Also, since the Z3 uses blue leds instead of white, that could be why it shows a blue/grey instead of a more natural black. Don't have an exact fix but you can try adjusting your color settings to get your result. Best of Luck.
I have read somewhere that its by design and only seen on max brightness to make it easier to read something in bright sunlight

Uneven backlight/ colour tone shifting on bottom half of the screen

Just purchased a brand new Galaxy S6 32GB FLAT in white today. Right out of the box, especially on a white background, I noticed that the bottom half of the screen shifts into a more warmer tone. It's most visible on a white background, where i can actually see the transition between the two colour tones. Other colours are affected too, but not as noticeable. Please refer to the attached screenshots, (Ignore the diagonal lines running across the screen, caused by the camera artefact).
My question is, is it normal? Can you please check yours and provide feedback? Thanks in advance
I have the same
Its a common issue. But it shouldnt be like that. You should get a replacement

Dude this isnt severe. Ive seen enough amoled displays having worse tints and stripes. Yours is much better than them. If I was you, I wouldnt settle for this. Replace it or get a refund. I have severe ocd about my phone. I need it to be perfect. Luckily the S6 that I have has a very good display. A perfect one. Get a replacement asap. This isnt something normal.
Im ordering my 2nd replacemeny soon. My first one was yellowish and uneven like yours. My current one has a horrible pink tint. Try 3

I took my phone back to the Samsung store and got it replaced by the manager there. The screen looked fine when i first looked at it in store, but soon after taking it home i realised that this second unit has a yellowish tint on the right side of the screen. Going back tomorrow for another replacement.... SIGH!!!!!
My third replacement from the Samsung Exp Store is.... a KEEPER! This unit has a much better even backlight and meets my expectation! After going through that trouble, i'm happy to say that I'm a a happy camper

Looks all right to me, but then again we all perceive things differently. My current unit is not perfect, there's still a green/blue tint to it, but it's tolerable. If you cannot tolerate it, then keep exchanging until you find one that you can tolerate with. Keep in mind though that you won't find a unit with 100% even colour hue; it's the limitation with AMOLED displays. All the best!
I have the same issue
I have the same, but much less severe than yours seem to be. I don't notice it at all with normal use, only super slightly on bright white screens. If it really looks like it does on the photo, I would get it replaced.

Light bars on black wallpaper
I have the following issue on black wallpapers. On top and bottom there is a lighter bar. This appears only after applying the wallpaper.Viewing them with Quickpick there are no bars.Same in Nova and TW after applying it.Tried attaching a screen but the bars are not captured. What could it be,a ROM issue,a low DPI?I have the DPI set to low. Also on brighter pics you can't see the bars ,after applying which makes sense.
White uniformity - Is this the jelly effect and is it normal?
I got a really good deal on a used Tab S6 from Amazon and I love the tablet but there is weird tinting thing happening on white screens.
When viewed slightly off-axis the tint goes blue.
Makes me nuts when reading NY TImes and edges of white screen are tinted blue.
The effect changes when viewed at different angles and seen without screen protector. It is tough to photograph but hopefully you can see what I see.
Ignore the moire in the middle of the first shot - that's a screen protector... Look at extreme edges of screen.
Thanks and pardon me if this has been answered before - I've searched and couldn't find this issue.

Xperia z3 d6653

Hello, guys!
First of all, I am new here and I am not as good as most of you Devs are, so please bear with a beginner here.
I am looking for a way to downgrade my Sony Xperia Z3 D6653 from Android Lollipop 5.1.1 build number 23.4.A.1.232, to Android KitKat 4.4.4. I have no clue whatsoever on what to do. So, if any of you Devs please help me.
I also have another concern. I don't know whether this is from my update on 5.1.1 or after I dropped my phone when I was on the toilet. ( Don't ask why I did ) Anyway, my concern is that whenever my phone boots up, or whenever I use a dark wallpaper, or simply any dark color, there's a small purple and a little smudge of pink on the upper left of my unit. It looks like the design brand of Nike to be honest. On light colors, especially white, there are no signs of the said color. Only on dark and boot up. For example, when you're opening a YouTube video and the video is still black due to buffering, you can see the purple or pink smudge, Nike like design color. It's really irritating as I am a huge fan of dark colors. It is quite noticeable whenever I set the brightness to maximum. On 50% to lowest, it it not. But since I'm quite the meticulous person, I can see it pretty well especially on low light. How do I fix this? I've searched on common defects on Sony handsets such as dead pixels. And mine is different to a dead pixel. I also searched photos of devices that were dropped and there were colors such as blue, purple, pink, etc that form a huge line. But the difference between mine and theirs is that mine is only visible on dark colors. On light, none. Theirs, may it be light or dark, it is prominent. My friend also told me about this that IT COULD BE because of the update as to why it only appears on dark colors. And just to remind you, my floor was wet and my phone fell face down on the rubber matting of the floor. Could it be that the motherboard was affected of the impact that it produced such colors on dark colors? I have no clue. Just theories that I mentioned based on my researches. I LOVE THIS PHONE and I plan to repair it in any way possible ( except for opening it ). So, please, if any kindhearted Devs out there who are willing to help me. I WILL BE MOST GRATEFUL. I do not have money yet to upgrade to the new Xperia Z5. And even if I do have it, I'd love to keep my Z3. Pls do help. I can't send you a picture of my concern, but if it helps, imagine a black color and there's a small Nike Logo colored in purple and pink on the upper left corner.
