splash screens? - Sprint Galaxy S 5 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Does the S5 support custom splash screens?
Ive ran a myriad of ROMs on the S5 and never seen it change. The S3 didnt either (as fas as i can remember)
The Evo and Incredible did, I know theyre HTCs and that might be the key, hardware differences that is.

No they are locked in the bootloader now. Before they were in the kernel ramdisk which allowed us to change it. I believe the s3 was the last device which allowed us to change it.

It's not a matter of being unlocked. Its the fact we can't change code inside the bootloader. And after one of the lollipop's upgrade, bootloader is locked and won't allow downgrades. The amount of hex editing you would have to do to change the image wouldn't be worth it. It's just one of those things you live with lol. At least we can change bootup animations though You can make pretty sick ones really.

Bootloader Unlock Possibility? (AT&T)

Okay, so. Rogers One XL and AT&T One X are basically the same device right? Same essentially all the way through? Would it be super farfetched to think that if one were to take the file that is modified by the HTCdev unlock for the Rogers One XL, and push it to the AT&T One X, that it would unlock it? I'm sure there's something making this completely illogical and impossible but I figured maybe I'd mention it, though I'm sure it's been thought of.
Unless I'm mistaken your unlock is directly related to your phone's iemi number.
I had a feeling that would be the case.

No sir.. the unlock code is unique to each device :-\
Sent from my GT-P3113 using xda premium
I've proposed this several times in the last week or so and nobody has paid attention. I've yet to hear somebody say, for certain, what the unlock code is based on and I'm sure that we haven't fully investigated whether the code is really unique or whether that's just what we have been led to believe.
What we should do is start making a table of numbers (IMEIs, Device ID Tokens, Serial Numbers, Unlock Codes, etc) to see if a pattern emerges. Even if it is based on IMEI numbers, if we figure out how the number is arrived at (could it be as easy as md5(IMEI) or something???), we may be able to bypass HTCDev.
Billy
If I was a betting man I'd say the code is heavily encrypted.
Maybe HTC made it simple and easy for us to crack on purpose because they embrace the android community and despise AT&T as much as we do... Never know till you try.

One idea that I've had bouncing around is using the onboard storage as a virtual goldcard. Use it to load a phone image that has unlocked bootloader. I have no idea if such a thing is even possible

But the gold card needs to be separate from the actual storage and be able to be mounted and unmounted at will like a true gold card I would think]

Depending on how they encrypted it... it might not be so hard to work around though.
That said - it's probably public key encryption, with the phone having one half of it.
We really should get a couple examples of the inputs and outputs of HTCDev to look at though - you never know! People smarter than me may be able to deduce a pattern.

How do I relock and return to stock?

I'm going to return this phone, how do I relock the bootloader and return to stock? I'm on ATT and have supercid unlock.
Have the same question but I have not unlocked yet. Can I unlock and then return the phone within the 30 day period without any issues? Or should I not even unlock? (sorry for jacking your thread!)

There really is nothing you can do to hide your unlock. If you relock the bootloader says relocked, not locked. So even if you lock it you can still tell. Just install one of the stock rooted roms so it looks stock and return it. If your current rom doesnt have any theming just do a factory reset. No one has ever looked at the bootloader when I've returned mine. Or software version..
If you still want to lock it for whatever reason there are multiple threads already concerning this.
Why do you want return if I may ask? Even with its bugs it's the nicest android I've ever used. Lemme guess.. Came from iPhone to android and want to go back sorry to hear that. Really is quite probable that these bugs will be take care of soon. hTC doesn't want to sell buggy stuff, especially their flagship. They will get it right. Mine is damn near perfect with the rom and tweaks I'm using. Can't complain about anything. Runs great.
It will say RELOCKED instead of LOCKED, just an fyi.
--
Open command prompt, and locate your adb files [often C:\Android, So you would type, " cd C:\Android " to go there. Or " cd C:\YourFolder\AnotherFolder ", depending on where you have it located.
Boot into your bootloader, and hit the power button once to enter the FastBoot menu. In here, Type " fastboot oem lock " to relock your bootloader.
Caution again though, doing this will appear as RELOCKED and NOT LOCKED.

No, an RUU flash DOES NOT remove the relocked tag. You cannot get rid of the tag if you have unlocked at this time.

Correct it will NOT remove relocked. I think he is confused..The ruu will remove "tampered" from bootloader from rooting. not unlocking.

i have an idea. just take it back to ATT. say i rooted and unlocked this phone to try and fix the problems. that didnt work so i want to return it. That way you are honest about it, if they take it back you're good. A noob salesman wont even understand what you just said and still return it lol. If they say sorry we cant take it back, then keep it like gunnyman does with all of his phones lo l. Awesome phone, absolutely love it but I am currently on Verizon with a Galaxy Nexus. I travel quite a bit so I use the hotspot frequently and I thought I could get by on AT&T's "fake 4g" but Verizons network wins hands down.
Its a shame they didn't bring this phone to Verizon.

I couldnt imagine LTE speeds. Never been to a place that had it. And to be honest i really dont know how it could make things much better. Nothing i do is consuming 3-10Mbps. I know LTE looks good on speedtest but will the phone actually operate better at 15-20Mbps? is it worth the battery drain from LTE? Of course you can download things a lot faster but i really dont download a lot on my phone. I guess it just depends on what you do with it eh? lol. I'm probably forgetting something major that will benifit and imma look like a noob but wth.
I've actually just got back from downtown NYC which has LTE. I use the hotspot all the time because I travel quite a bit so I do my work plus watch netflix so having the bandwith is nice Here is the speeds I got in NYC.
Now usually I get about 2 days of battery life with 4 hours of screen time, while on LTE my battery dropped 60% in about 5 hours

So if you return your gs4 due to the locked bootloader..

I mean I myself will wait until the last day to return it, and hope the bootloader issue has been solved. But what a shame, this device is nice. To hear the htc one already has cm10 is kinda of disappointing. So the question I ask what device will you get instead? Is it even worth it to get the international gs4 version?
I'm sticking with the GS4. I can live with the Disable option for now.
Also, I'm coming from a GSM Galaxy Nexus, so I'm already familiar with Samsung's hardware.

Time does not always mean a better ROM. Different developers pump out different stuff and once the bootloader is unlocked, the excitement will steamroll over to the GS4 development side. Guaranteed the GS4 has better custom roms at the end of the year :fingers-crossed:

If you have faith in what our awesome developers say, you should be as skeptical as they are about getting the bootloader unlocked. djrbliss tweeted yesterday that he doesn't think the bootloader can be cracked without a leak from Samsung. A few days ago, Entropy pointed out that since the S3, Samsung devices have gotten harder to crack, and they seem to be learning from their past mistakes and stepping up their bootloader security.
Still, AdamOutler is working on getting it unlocked, which is encouraging.
My point is, people shouldn't get their hopes up. If the bootloader is cracked(and I sincerely hope it happens), then great. But if it isn't, and you can't live without custom roms, then the AT&T S4 isn't the phone for you.

It will all depend It is way to early to say which one will have better devs and roms but I do know a lot of good devs have picked up the HTC One and that mixed with the international version having the same hardware as AT&T will be HUGE! I think the big question will be with the HTC One camera on a CM build. if they can't get the drivers for the camera it may just be a 4 MP? Who knows. But Mr. Cyanogen himself has the One and other great devs. I hope for a quick unlock

Cool! Thanks for the informative post..
I am not really following any of this as I don't have any interest in custom ROM's.
I have not even rooted yet but may do so once we have a way to restore back to factory. I'm pretty simple these days (I was a chronic flasher in years past) but now I only consider root if I want to use Titanium and AdFree..
I know a lot of users want custom ROM's though so hopefully the bootloader can and will be cracked.

As for the bootloader, the biggest problem is the number of potential developers. I'm not buying the device (full price) and a jtag just to test. And the fact that they're using an open source system is not encouraging..But let's see what happens! It does reaffirm my distain for ATT though.

No, AT&T will not notice. They don't make their money from device sales; they make their money from monthly bills. So, all those who returned their S4's for One's and didn't switch to a different carrier won't even get AT&T's attention.
Personally I'm just going to wait for the bootloader to be unlocked before I buy one, if it turns out that the bootloader is not unlockable I'll just buy a GS3.

Take it with a grain of salt, the bootloader is unlockable.

According to the LG USA IG account, the bootloader is unlockable. (Except Verizon) No idea of it's going to be like the G5 though. I'd assume it will be, but 7.0 security is a different beast, from what I've read.

We also need required fastboot commands as well, or we have to flash .tot or .dz through LGUP.
Pretty sure all the v10s would let you check the box in developer options. Then when you went to actually unlock only the t-mobile version would actually allow it.
Once t-mobile v10 was updated to mm the unlock still worked but none of the commands to flash were recognized. Therefore the only way to get root on the mm t-mobile v10 is to use lgup with a root injected file. T-Mobile v10 is the only US version that has root + custom recovery.
Would be nice if it's different for V20.... I guess we'll see...

Sprint - Anyone regret unlocking the bootloader

So I just picked up a refurbished Sprint v20. It is currently at zv3 so i'll be able to use Dirty Santa. My issue is do I? I know there's no going back since there isnt a factory image for Sprint.
If you've unlocked, are you happy you did so?
Very happy. but im biased since i made it...
Well, I didn't need much convincing. Thanks! Very smooth process, it's really nice to actually have TWRP on a lg phone again. Haven't had that since my LG G2.
yea it was a no brainer for me coming from a sgs7e , i hated the fact i could not do nanddroids or flash custom roms, i love my v20.
Bootloader possibly unlocked
So I just called Sprint and reemed them on how there bootloader practices are illegal and that this is an open source phone. Not an Iphone. My device is paid off ect. They supposedly are fully unlocking it as we speak. In the mid of a six hour phase I guess. I was told not to reboot during six hours. On ZVD firmware btw. If this does happen to get fully unlocked including bootloader ect., can I finally root my phone? I really hope so. I am running out of options.

Open source doesn't mean you have to have an unlocked bootloader. Open source just means you must be provided with a copy of the source code of the open source components (some parts are closed source), which LG has complied by allowing anyone access through this site.
Personally I'd be surprised if it's even technically feasible for them to unlock your bootloader.

Love also how - the variant is rootable and this one is not game. So should I be mad a Sprint or LG? Whos fault is it?Rooting is perfectly legal. Seems blocking it is just as legal in this case.

There is a way to go back, I made a thread detailing the method to restore with a stock aboot image.

It does not have the dual cam, and removable battery like the v20. I have my reasons. Believe me . Only issue is Sprint not being able to root...supposedly. Pro_Granade kinda has my hopes up atm lol
