[Q] Mobile VR Headset with Best Field of View ( FOV ) ? - General Questions and Answers

I want to know which Mobile VR headsets are available in the market with the biggest field of view ? I came across the two products Samsung Gear VR and Zeiss VR One that were better than Google Cardboard in design to give better FOV because of their wider lenses .
Samsung Gear VR vs Zeiss VR One , which one has bigger FOV ? If anyone has used them then give the review for these two or any other headsets .

Tripod(adapter)?

Hey,
since it's obviously better to keep your cam(phone) relatively still while taking a picture or filming a movie i´ve been looking for a tripod(adapter) for the O3D (especially for 3D filming).
The O3D is 6.8cm wide and 12.9cm high.
So far i've found two solutions that are aimed at smartphones:
Hama Mini Tripod (don't know how far this can be extended)
Pedco Cellpod (Adapter) / Pedco Cellpod (Tripod)
I have a good tripod so i do prefer the Pedco Adapter, but i'm wondering if the dual-lens setup might be a problem.
(€: i have seen this one used with a samsung galaxy s which is 6.4cm wide, but the screw on top had room left, so the O3D SHOULD fit)
Do you guys know any other solutions?
Found this cool looking stand that is pocket friendly:
http://www.amazon.com/iCarpus-ICARPUS02-Stand-iPhone-iPod/dp/B0047M6ZUQ/ref=pd_cp_cps_4
Not so great for tripod filming maybe.
Hallo nach Berlin!
I would be also interrested to buy some tripod patch or fix . Once you have some more tips or even buy one pls share your experience.

[Q] Trying to make an augmented reality glasses similar to Google Glass(Hardware)

I am trying to make an augmented reality glasses similar to Google Glass, but I am having trouble designing the hardware. I want a good screen that is in the size of a lens(around 1.5 inch) and high resolution camera that can be fitted into the glasses and I want both to be compatible with android or at least with a micro controller that can be connected to an android device.I am also ready to buy a ready built glasses that provides what I need. I am ready to hear all suggestions.
Thanks in advance...

From Moto 360 2nd gen to Gear S3 Frontier?

Hi there!
I'm tempted to say goodbye to Android Wear and jump to the "dark side" of Tizen, leaving my "trusty" Moto 360 2nd gen (the 46 mm size) and getting the Samsung Gear S3 Frontier (no LTE), now on offer at 329€ from a local retailer...
I still like my Moto 360 and think it is even now a good and reliable choice (even if AW 2.0 is still MIA...), so my "search" for something new is more a "caprice" than a real necessity
In my opinion the pros of Moto 360 are:
- smaller size (I have not a big wrist)
- faster charging times
- works as an alarm clock when charging (even when 100% charged)
- from what I've searched, Google voice commands work better than Samsung SVoice
But the Gear S3 has its own pros:
- a new gadget )))
- great use of the rotating bezel
- better screen
- better fitness tools + GPS
- better battery life (even with alwaus on screen???)
- mic & speaker to answer calls straight from the watch (when BT paired with the phone, as I'm not investing in the LTE version)
- perfect integration with the Samsung ecosystem, as I'm currently using a Samsung Galaxy S7 (no more duplicates with Android Wear, Moto Connect, Moto Body, Google Fit etc; all the needed programs are already "hardcoded" in the S7)
I forgot to mention that I don't rely on many 3rd party apps, so the relative weakness of Tizen compared to AW when talking about 3rd party apps is not a decisive factor
Has anybody done the same jump from Moto 360 2nd to the Gear S3?
Any suggestion/comment is welcome, thanks in advance
I jumped to Gear S3 from Huawei Watch. Small wrist is not a problem. You should check if your language is supported by S Voice since S Voice supports fewer languages than Google.
I made the jump, quite happy for now
Inviato dal mio SM-G930F utilizzando Tapatalk
I just made the jump. So far the only thing I miss is running google keep. The S3 doesn't support it yet. So many more functions in the S3. I love the rotating bezel and the screen is way superior.

I saw that from a random Google search:
https://www.maxbhi.com/3d-virtual-reality-glasses-headset-for-xiaomi-redmi-k20-pro.html
This site says that they are for Redmi K20 Pro so I suppose they fit... I'm doing a research too so if you find anything, please be kind to share it!
I wouldn't bother. There's no vr controller that will work. Using the gearvr you only have one controller, and it's only 3 directions. Which means there's almost nothing for the device.

yeah i know a 1080P screen is not the best , for VR you normally want at least 1440P or better but not much we can do about that in terms of screen we have on phone but headsets yeah its abit hard trying to find one that fits a 6.4 inch screen most headset are made for phones that are between 4.7-6 inch only seen a few advertise fitting over 6 inch screen phones
the Irusu MONSTER VR headset seems to support a phone this size and seems cheap enough
also found this blog post for different phone but same size screen "5-best-vr-headsets-for-huawei-mate-20-pro" but not sure how much i trust fliptroniks research and already some of the headsets they recommend have already been replaced by newer models
yeah i am not expecting PC VR game functionality but if i can get close to gear VR functionality that is good enough for me just want to be able to stream VR videos from my skybox app on PC and some basic mobile vr games.

i am just going to buy a basic VR headset i can't seem to find the monster vr headset that ships to AU, just going to buy the VR BOX 2.0 it says Phone supported: Android & iOS smartphone, screen size from 4.5” to 6.0”, resolution 1080P or above, phone width ≤ 80mm, length ≤163mm.
and the k20 size is 156.7mm length x 74.3mm wide so should fit fine. and the k20 pro has had googles core AR added to it so might be able to get daydream functionality with a few mods.

the more i have looked into it and the specs/dimensions of the k20 pro the happier i am i got the pro varient as the SD 855 has really good ISP (image signal processor Spectra 850) that should be great for AR/VR
also i think i am also going to pick up a daydream view headset now instead as even though its not supported by google, others have managed to get daydream working on other xiaomi phones and the view headset should fit the k20 pro as it supports the galaxy note 8 which has larger dimensions , plus the view has a better bluetooth controller least in my opinion then the other cheap VR headsets and there are a few exclusives only made to work on daydream kinda like gear vr for samsung

i dont know about sucking i had 1440 x 2560 pixels, 16:9 ratio (~577 ppi density) on my S7 and for mobile VR and it was fine and no issues with VR videos as long as they were formatted to gear vr 1440p resolution, sure if you try play 4k VR video files on a 1440p screen or lower your going to see more pixels(screen door effect) but i dont think the drop to 1080 x 2340 pixels, 19.5:9 ratio (~403 ppi density) on the k20 pro/mi 9t pro is a huge drop as long as you know that going in and have formatted your VR videos accordingly, would the 1644 x 3840 pixels, 21:9 ratio (~643 ppi density) of the sony xperia 1 be better yeah sure it would but it is more then double the price i paid for my mi 9t pro and still has the same SD855 CPU and Adreno 640 GPU,
i would rather have a mi 9t pro and buy a separate oculus quest that comes with 2 controllers and cameras built into it for inside out tracking if i wanted to spend that sort of money on VR sure you could buy a higher spec VR headset with better PPI and FOV with higher refresh rates but then your tied to a PC and your PC has to be powerful enough to handle a higher spec VR headset and the quest is still 1440p but its best bang for buck VR i reckons thats available right now.
the only mobile VR i have ever tried was using iphone 6 with google cardboard UI and some other cheap headset which was basically same google cardboard UI just plastic and had a head strap so i didn't have to hold it upto my face, and then i went straight to gear VR with S7 and that was amazing for what it was , i know the next gear VR added the bluetooth controller and then daydream view came out either just before or after that version of gear vr but i never tried it as i was already invested in gear VR but i just sold my S7 and gear vr to someone else and picked up a mi 9t pro as seemed like best bang for buck phone available right now still actually waiting for delivery on it should get here by end of the week according to my tracking info
was hoping to find at least some sort of non gear VR android phone community and there was a post few years ago on here that had "How to Force Daydream VR Compatibility on Unsupported Android Devices", main reason i am going daydream over some other basic headset is i want to play rez infinite which was only ported to daydream not available on gear VR/ other mobile VR stores seems like the 1 google exclusive they got for mobile VR worth having.
trying to find a daydream view gen 2 (2017 model) with the larger FOV in australia for a decent price is hard, they go for so much cheaper on ebay in US then locally here but the shipping costs people have on them is more then the headset if anyone knows of sites selling them cheap wit decent shipping costs let me know. otherwise will prob wait a month see if we get any black friday/cyber monday deals.

that is fine if that is your standard that is point i was making there are different standards of VR, there is mobile VR - 1080P - 4K (if your willing to spend that much on a phone) that runs either basic google cardboard apps, daydream or gear VR limited oculus store apps. in the price range of $5-$100 + price of your phone then you move upto standalone VR headsets with built in screens, tracking and controllers if your lucky with price range of $250-500 with better access to larger range of VR apps and games then mobile, then you move upto VR headsets with built in screens but with more accurate tracking hardware placed within a room large enough to fit your VR space with the highest resolution they can put in at a price people will pay that ranges from $500-6000 + the price of a PC able to power that sort of VR headset
just saying 1440P is bad for VR is being dismissive of the range of VR standards that are available, i've been out of the mobile VR range for awhile now and was hoping with the CPU and GPU thats available in the k20 pro / mi 9t pro there would be more people interested but i guess most people have moved on from mobile VR upto the next level of VR for the bigger range of access to apps and games without having to hack the mobile VR standard to work with the higher standards of VR titles
i am still going to give it a go with trying to get daydream working on the k20 pro/mi 9t pro just trying to work out best path to go down, i have found some daydream 9 axis gyroscope controllers that claim to work with daydream but cost at least $30 AU + then i have to buy a VR headset on top of that i've seen a few bundles offering them with these bobovr but that is also min cost of $60 AU i really don't like that alot of these latest mobile VR headsets come with big bulky headphones attached, i am sure you can detach them but i rather save the money and not have them included in the first place, also found some hacks to use a gear VR headset on a non samsung phone and bypass the requirement of it wanting to install gear vr software and then using google cardboard of daydream if you can install that
just wish there was some sort of consensus of what headset to buy in 2019 for phones our size then trying to work out what is garbage tier and to avoid. at this point i am thinking if a daydream compatible controller is going to cost me $30 AU then i might be better off just buying a 2nd gen daydream view second hand off ebay but then i guess i have to worry about battery in the controller and if it still holds a charge from 2017.
will update once i actually get my mi9 t pro and see if its even possible to install the daydream platform , if someone here wants to follow the guides out there to try it before me that would be cool as i am doubting my phone is going to get here before the weekend now.
so just a quick update phone arrived today yet to take the steps to try get daydream software to install to it but will give it a go once i have updated it and setup everything else plus i think i need to wait 7 days before i can root the device which is needed to install Magisk , also managed to buy a used only once in box 2017 version of daydream view headset, that is going to take another 2 weeks from now to deliver, it supported the S9 plus which had larger dimensions then the mi 9t pro so should fit fine sure they PPI is lower then the S9 plus but i am willing to look past the issue of only having 1080P screen. plus the software module to trick daydream into thinking your phone is compatible is based on a pixel 3 which also has a 1080P screen
I bought the bobovr z4, but still waiting to delivery.
I looked in this site and the lens looks way better than the vr box 2 sitesinvr.com/viewer/viewer-benchmark.htm

oh yeah for sure the bobovr z4 would be way better then the vr box 2, the vr box 2 is basically cheapest junk i could find they go for $10 AU off ebay, the bobovr z4 is $33 AU, i paid $60 AU for the google daydream view 2017 which i guess is in the higher range of mobile VR headset prices but i like that it is abit more compact without the headphones attached to the headset. don't forget those tests were done with a 5.7" phone screen we will prob have a larger FOV using a 6.4" screen.
but i mainly wanted to go official route in relation to daydream VR headset as the less hoop i have to jump through to get daydream VR working on mi 9t pro the better its enough that going to have to unlock bootloader and run daydream view unlocker on phone to then have to get apps to then change the scale of apps to match the lenses of another VR headset even if you can scan QR codes to match for most apps i thought it was worth it as some apps don't plus even just a daydream view controller clone is $30 AU off aliexpress so i don't mind that i paid abit more then i wanted.
just an update i got the mi 9t pro working with google daydream view headset , just followed the guide to unlock it using magiks module and installed the apks in the needed order, would be nice if we had quad HD display but its fine for what i expected and everything works no issues so far.

my bobovr came out and it is nice.
Still, the holes for lens are too little compared with the smartphone display.
I think we will not find a good display and we need to customize one with the correct lens and make a cardboard for it...

looks fine when i use it in my daydream view, i think the daydream view tool unlocker helps alot as it matches the display to a phone that is supported by daydream so i dont have issues with apps not displaying correctly for screen or lens.

what i meant was that coming from using gear VR with a galaxy S7 i can notice the pixel count is lower which is too be expected going from 1440p down to 1080p but its not terrible and still works fine for what i wanted out out of it.

I didn't told it would not fit, actually, it fits perfectly, still it does not use the whole screen. I do think that the lens aren't big enough to get all the screen magnified to the eyes (and it is a 45mm len, same of the rift byt what I've read). I do think we need to customize one vr glass for us because our smartphone has a different shape of screen.
I am trying to get one, but I do need the math behind the lens angles and what should I get, any idea?
