I assumed that it was just to edit or update the pattern lock. Thats why i did not tinker with it.
Hi guys, I've run into the same problem but still can't get to remove the lock..
mine is as follow:
settings > security > screen lock
then it asks to "confirm saved pattern"
then i have: none (grayed out), slide(grayed out), face unlock(grayed out), pattern, PIN, password
If i choose pattern again, it will ask me to draw a new pattern and it comes back to the same.
the grayed out options are written "disabled by administrator, encryption policy or credential storage".
I'm running ARHD ICS.. i want to remove the screen lock pattern to default slide unlock only... please help

You would likely have trusted credentials set up because of a VPN or Microsoft Exchange account. In which case, you'll have to clear the trusted credentials first before none becomes available as an option. Do note that your VPN or Exchange account would be erased when you clear trusted credentials.
I had this problem a few days ago, couldn't use the simple unlock screen, the option was greyed out. Happened after allowing the Seekdroid app to function as an administrator I think, or could have been after adding my college (wpa2 enterprise) wifi network either.
I stumbled upon a proper fix though today, instead of just deleting the credential storage.
Go to:
-settings
-profiles
-select a profile and click the settings icon beside it
- at the bottom of the list there is an option "lock screen mode"
-change it to "use insecure lock screen"
*there is also the option to disable the lock screen entirely
This worked for me anyway, the simple swipe unlock is now default.
I had the same problem, but I found a solution.
The one with the profile option does not work for me, because I do not have this option.
I just chose Pattern , turned off the screen, turned it back on and clicked on Forgot in the right down corner. After I gave in my Google passswort it changes automatically back to slide.
In the settings the option none it still grayed out but its selected anywhere and it works.
I just installed "Lookout". Went to settings/security and selected "lookout" as my device admin. No i have all the options for pattern lock back.
silly little thing ICS
just managed to resolve this on my S3 after an hour-two of getting nowhere.
this was the problem:
- encrypted the phone
- after encrypting the device I did not like the lack of convenience the enforced PW unlock offered (sorry, I know it is the most secure way, but no friggin way I am going to type in a PW into my phone 50x a day...already doing this 500x at work, so.....no!)
- decrypted the phone and could not get any other unlock method to activate... not even after clearing the admin controls and credentials
and these are the steps I took to resolve it:
- found an old SD card and installed it
- encrypted the SD card
- decrypted the SD card
- made sure phone is decrypted again
- voila! unlock options became available again
Thank You

Wow, such a pain in the ass with ICS and Jellybean. Thank you finding that work around. It worked great on my Stock Android Galaxy Nexus.

Where can I find the Lookout app? I cannot see it in Google Play (I don't think it is the antivirus here).
Can you post a link? Thanks.

Doesn't work for me (Htc One X, CyanogenMod 10)
Went to profiles -> Clicked "Settings" icon next to Default (selected) profile -> tapped "Lock screen mode" -> Chose "Insecure".
Still no option to remove the lock screen (ie None, Slide and Face Unlock still grayed out)
I use VPN and have credentials stored, I would not wish to lose this, but would still like to have a simple lock screen instead of lock pattern.
Can I use "Slide" lock AND still have the VPN credentials stored? Is there some way to force this?
Thanks

[Completed] [Q] No option to disable lock screen after upgrading to 5.0.2 Lolipop

In my Screen Lock options there are only Swipe, Pattern, PIN and Password.
Tried to look around for solutions;
Some say clear credentials but my Clear Credential option is greyed out,
Some say remove guest account but when I change to Guest and remove it in the account options it reappears when i am switch back to Main account.
I never had a screen lock in 4.4.4 and I am so frustrated by it now, can someone help? thanks
edit: My device is rooted so I can edit the system files to enable None option if that is needed.

Depending on the device, firmware and settings, there can be different reasons.
I found one way here: AT&T Galaxy Note 4 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting > [Q] Why can't I disable my lock screen? by emtiv334.
Or here: T-Mobile Galaxy S 5 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting > Cant disable lock screen security by cliffclaven.
Without more information about your device and your firmware, I can not give better advices.
Set Swipe to unlock till you find your device's specific forum, then ask in the Help/Troubleshooting section.
Good luck !

[Completed] ADB.exe user manual

Is there a user manual for ADB.exe?
I would like to use it to uninstall Battery Doctor.
I conceded to let BDr manage the lock screen, but it says I have the wrong PIN (even though I entered it twice).
I reset the main phone PIN using google device manager, so now I enter the main PIN, then I'm presented with the BDr PIN.
I don't want to factory reset if I can help it.
Thanks.

ADB.exe to uninstall - OR - to extract photos before factory reset
Alternatively, if I can't uninstall BDr using ADB.exe, if I could extract photos that would be great.
I'm not sure if the BDr lock screen is a real lock screen or just interrupts the user getting at other apps, but I can't get at settings to switch USB mode on (which is something I've sen people say I need to do to get photos off, but I can't).

[Question] Need help on HTC U11 normal usage

Dear HTC U11 users,
I'm a newbie here, Just bought my U11 for a last 2 weeks. However, I'm a android user for almost 10 years.
There are something that really annoy me when using HTC. I don't know if we have any solutions for this. If anybody knows, please help me and I really appreciate that. I'm running stock, bootloader locked.
1./ Can we change the brightness of the capacity buttons (back and recent key)? It's too bright, especially in the dark. There is no way to adjust the button brightness.
2./ Can we change the way the home button works? I want to turn off the hold actions, now it always open Google assistant, which I don't want to.
3./ Can we disable the vibration every time we unlock the phone with fingerprint scanner?
Thank you !
1. You'll need a custom kernel. CleanSlate does this. The EAS kernel has it as well(using CleanSlate code I believe)
2. You can change the long press app with the "Assist App" setting. Not sure which category it was in but you can search it in the settings app. It was pretty deep if I remember right.
3. Yes there is an option to disable the vibration in the "Fingerprint scanner" settings category.

Awesome!! Thank you.
About:
Section 2, thanks to Android 8.0, I just need to search for the key words " Assist App" in setting search and get it done. Notice for up-coming readers: you will need to install apps sharing assist app function, or you will not see the option to choose none. In my case, I install the Microsoft launcher to get Cortana. And when you have more than 1 assist app, you can choose "none" in the option list.
section 3, How stupid and careless I am to miss that.
section 1, I will take it as a "no way" for stock users, and due to the U11 is my primary one for work.
Thank you !!!

Have the same problem, have you managed to fix it?
Hello! I made an account just to reply to this thread.
After spending 2 days trying everything short of a full MSM reset, the solution was even simpler:
- turn off your phone password/ passcode
Settings > Password and Security > Lock screen password
It seems no apps will work, but you can access the settings app by making sure the phone is in Airplane mode, then bringing down the notification shade and hitting the settings icon from there.
Please let us know if it works for you.

I have been having the same issue and turning off my password did not fix the issue. Any ideas on how I could backup my data before doing a factory reset?
