Update 31/08/2012: Jelly Bean users are getting force closes in the Play Store app when navigating to Wave Control -- The free version's apk is available to download on this post. Please if it's working for you in Play Store download from there.. I need the install count
Wave Control uses the proximity sensor to detect hand gestures to control music/movie playback (free version) and more (paid version).
I developed this originally on the Note and luckily it happened to have one of the best proximity sensors (at least for my uses). Now I've moved on to the SGSIII and it works just as well! Works best on the SGSIII, Note and Galaxy Nexus. Not so great on HTC phones and SGSII due to their particular sensors (much slower).
Performance will vary depending on which sensor your phone uses. All HTC phones use the same slow one. Samsung uses about 3 different vendors and more models.. most are good, Sony is usually ok, Motorola is a mixed bag. I try to account for some of the differences in the sensors. But be aware you may have to wave at a different speed than in the youtube videos.
There are 4 basic gestures:
-Hover
-1 Wave
-2 Waves
-3 Waves
By default they correspond to Play/Pause, Next, Previous, Enable/Disable Controls respectively.
In the Pro version or upgraded free version, they can be remapped to any of those plus: Screen Toggle On/Off, Volume Up, Volume Down, Launch Google Voice Search, Fast Forward, Rewind, and do nothing.
Popular uses are:
When driving, don't have to take your eyes off the road to try to hit a button
When your hands are dirty so you don't smear crap all over your phone like when cooking or working on car
While on the computer, you don't have to bother waking the phone to change the song (works even when the screen is off)
New
Control music on your PC using foobar2000 controller Pro-- Now compatible with Wave Control

I'd like to see what you guys think of it. If you have any suggestions for new features or any feedback, I'd love to hear it.

Not share why but when I try to go to the app in the market I get a force close of the market. It immediately closes once the install page comes up. I can go to any other app and open it to the install page and install the app.

Whoa.. that's a weird one. Maybe Google hates me??
Can you try install from a PC browser and see if it'll do the background install on the phone?

I am trying the free version for now. I really like the app so far. I do have one issue though and maybe the paid version fixes this. When I have it turned on but not in use per se, I start texting in landscape mode and it will toggle on/off the music constantly even when I am not planning on listening to music. I did look through the settings and only option I see that works is to have the app turned off while I am texting/or using the keyboard for anything like typing in this reply via xda app. Is it possible to implement a setting that IF the phone e is in landscape or IF the keyboard is in use that it overrides the app turn I g music on?
Again I am only using the free version right now for testing and will plan on using the paid app once I like the setup. Thanks and this is a great idea.

I've had a request over email from a user for a mode where it only works when the screen is off. I think this would help a lot of these type issues.
I'll see if I can detect whether the keyboard is active in another app or not. That's a great idea.
Thanks for the feedback!
Oh and which version of the Play Store are you running?

Hmm. That's the same version I have on my stock SGSIII.
I wonder if it's a Jelly Bean thing. Someone in the Galaxy Nexus thread had the same issue. I have no idea why it would be a Jelly Bean thing though.
I've been using this app since April and have a pro copy of it because I loved how original the app was and how well it worked. I find it useful when I'm driving to change my songs. Great to see this finally land on XDA.

Still doesn't work for me. I tried going to market and used the search bar for wave control. It finds it and I click on it and play store crashes. Again I went to other apps and can view them with no issues. I can update apps no issues. Next I wiped data for the play store, re-accepted once I reopened it, try to go to wave control and it still will force close.
I already have it from the browser version but wanted to test for you.

Damn. It was working on a friend of mine's Nexus w/ Jelly Bean where it had crashed before.
works great !!! Galaxy Note i717 running CM10 Paranoid hybrid!!! i will definitely use this when driving!!!!
Awesome, free version works as advertised on my RAZR MAXX running AOKP's ROM.
Don't get me wrong but apply for patent before thugs at apple copy it and claim it is there idea.
I remember when this first came out and was so impressed with the concept...and it really has a come a long way. :highfive:
This is one of the apps I repeatedly show off to others - oh and guess what, sir? I just got a Visa card and will be buying the Pro version because it's that awesome.
So essentially this post was just to say: you and this app are awesome, thanks for existing haha.
Google Now
delete please
mehhh...its alright I guess.
Great app
How about tasker integration? I would love to be able to activate/deactivate from within tasker. Another cool feature would be able to change the "key mapping" from within tasker. Say at some point I want 3 waves to turn on the screen, yet at sone other point it should simply do nothing.
I've just bought the pro version and like what I've seen so far

Hi everybody, is here a way to use the Galaxy gear devices to control Philips hue system? If Yes, then How?
not yet.
hopefully some developer can write an app soon.
I would be really interested in a hue app for the gear 2 as well. It would be great to have just basic functionality. For example turn lights on/off
If there is a Widget for the Philips Hue, you could try the wearable widget app as a workaround. It works perfectly to control my WeMo
good idea. But unfortunately wearable widgets is not available on the Samsung store right now. But I'll try as soon as it is again
It works perfectly to control light my TellStick.
Since this phone doesn't have a Gyroscope does that mean you cant use it in a VR application? (like google cardboard or 360 Degree YouTube video?) I think you need it for Photosphere's too right? Also can you turn the shortcuts on the lock screen off? Last one, hows the camera now after the update compared to the OnePlus One? Are they comparable?
To disable lock screen shortcuts go to Settings -- Lock Screen -- Turn off 'Func'

Another question, if I add Google now launcher to the phone will it give me stock Android icons? Or does it use the phones skinned icons?
So, other than custom launchers and widgets, what other upgrades and/or cool things have you done with your tablet?
I haven't done much. I have Nova Launcher installed on them so I also installed Nova Google Companion. Other than that, I've also installed Gravity Screen so when the tablet is facing down, the screen shuts off (kinda like a laptop). If you've warmed up to adb commands, I'd also suggest DragonFire1024's guide to activating Google Assistant: https://forum.xda-developers.com/hd8-hd10/general/guide-enable-google-assistant-ok-google-t3740145

I also have Killapps installed on my HD8 which makes it easier to shut down apps that are running in the background. I have the Gboard as the default keyboard on both
Other apps I have on the them (aside from the utility-types) changes a bit because the HD10 is for my dad so he'll use the Wall Street Journal and Investing apps, which my mom won't need on her HD8, but she has a lot of different E-Readers (until she settles on one, finally) and a crossword puzzle app that my dad will never use.
They both have YouTube Vanced (HIGHLY suggested- no YouTube ads and you can listen to videos without having the screen to be on) MX Player, Terrarium TV, Mobdro, News Reader Pro and Google Assistant/ Google App
Patched in OneUI 4 beta 2, working on a fix...
A proof of concept for custom widgets and apps on the cover screen. A GeckoView-based browser for the cover screen.
What works
- Custom widget
- Browsing the web
What doesn't
- On-screen keyboard
- Session saving
Important notes:
- No root required, but Samsung Health must be uninstalled to use this
Download it here: https://github.com/CarudiBu/SubUI-browser/releases/
Let me know if you encounter any bugs or have any ideas for more cover screen widgets / apps.
Teying to download but its a zip file. Tried to change ext to apk but issue with parsing

Care to share how you get widgets to run on the cover screen? I found nothing in the Samsung documentation. Thanks!
I am also digging through your git repo
Why did you have to remove Samsung Health to make this work?

Proof of concept of custom widgets and apps running on the Z Flip3 cover screen. Adds a widget to Z Flip3 cover screen that lets you launch a web browser-like app on the cover. - SubUI-browser/app/...
github.com
The first thing you may have noticed in digging through git is that the app spoofs that package to get it to work as an official widget.
Yes, I did. I cannot use that. Maybe they will provide an official sdk soon. Thanks!

Widgets running on the cover screen is only possible if the app pretends to be Samsung Health. The criteria for the Samsung settings app to show an app in the widget list is for the app to have a widget with a category of '2048' and the app to be a system app or have the Samsung Health package name.
Full apps can run on the cover screen without anything like this though. The second screen is seen as a second display in Android. The reason this app requires a custom widget to launch the custom app is because the second display is only activated when the phone is closed, so something on the cover screen must launch the app for it to appear on the screen - I use the widget for that.
There is another method, however. It's not shown in this app because I only found it a few days ago, but it's the intended way to show things on the cover screen and is the same way the camera preview works. There's an example of it here: https://github.com/CarudiBu/SubUI-mirror. Using Android's presentation mode, the display is woken up even when the phone is open and an app running on the main screen can show something on the cover. If an app starts showing something on the cover screen with presentation mode and the phone is closed, what it was showing remains on the screen.
Thanks for that!

Sounds like it could be used similar to the ROG Phone 5 Ultimate rear display with some sort of management app.
I also started messing around with the outer screen and noticed you could launch other apps that would then display inside it from the spoofed Samsung Health widget.
I started putting together a launcher to access all my apps without opening the screen. The only caveat seems to be that the keyboard will not display.
Always impressed how quickly, "man I wish my phone did this" goes to "ayyyy" with people like you. For anyone interested, emulators with a bt controller makes for a great stealth gaming device. Is there anyway you can flip the outer screen so it's either upside down or portrait? Maybe even with accelerometer support? Also would it ever possibly work while keeping Samsung health installed? Thanks for the great app, gave this phone the best missing feature.
Please release the app on Samsung Galaxy Store
It would be much better.

You have to replace Samsung Health to do what could loosely be considered an exploit. That wouldn't go over well.
Sorry and thank you in advance. I can't seem to change widget to my own personal widget via settings cover screen widget. I unistalled Samsung health and downloaded correct file.. c I uld u tell me what I'm missing?
I've successfully installed it and it works perfectly. But how can I change the WebPage? At the moment I just can read reddit.
As for widget ideas: did anyone make a voice recorder already? I'm a journalist, so recording interviews without needing to open the phone would be nice. Also, I think the cover display would be just great for the needed interface (start/pause/stop recording buttons, one to play the recording, save/delete recording buttons, and visual audio waves).
