What's the best way to protect SD card? - Sprint Galaxy S 5 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

I mean, I could encrypt it using Android Encryption, but then I'd lose the fingerprint scanner and pattern unlock features.
Only reason is that...what if I lose my phone, someone grabs my phone and takes out the external SD card and managers to find my files on it?
Then again what about the phone's internal memory? Should I encrypt both?
What do you guys do?

Hacking Froyo and Gingerbread

I was wondering,
If one has password protection for android phone, so that it asks password everytime one wakes up the screen or reboots, is there any way, and i mean any damn way or any hack that anyone can access the internal storage of the phone in case it is stolen.
Eg, one has data on the internal storage not sd card. and the phone is pass protected under menu....settings.....location and security. In case the phone is stolen is that data accessible.??? in any way.
Can the phone even be used in any way without hard resetting?
get seekdroid from the market i think thats what u looking for
Not actually,
I am on the other side. I have confidential data on my phone. Phone is password protected as provided in android OS.
There are cases of theft where i live, I just dont want the data to be leaked. Its better i put them in my pc rather than phone if the phone can be hacked even without the pass.
I felt it was impossible to crack the phone if it is password protected and the thief does not know it. The only way is to hard reset which will delete the data and thats all i care.
?????
If the phone has a custom rom.... very easy.
1. Stick a new rom on an external SD and pop it in the phone....
2. Boot into recovery and flash the new rom...
3. Ta-Da! No more password and the SD contents are still in tact.
Lets just make it simple.
I have a rooted device but stock ROM. No external sd card. Only data stored on internal memory of the phone. PHoien is locked via password security under android. No clockword recovery type feature installed.
So if it gets stolen.....can someone access the phones internal memory without knowing the security pass.????
well... u should probably have it on a password protected usb drive... problem solved. why would some one steal your usb? keep it on your keys

Any way to ensure I'll always be able to recover an encrypted SD card?

Hey all,
I just discovered the option to encrypt my external SD card in Android. I like the idea as without it anyone can get data off my SD card if they steal my phone.
However, if my device ever dies presumably that card will never be recoverable as the decryption keys will be lost with the dead device. Is there anything I can do pre-emptively to protect myself from this scenario?
Presumably the encryption keys are stored on the phone somewhere. Can they be backed up and stored on my PC or something to ensure I can always recover the SD card later?

Data Recovery from encrypted SD card after Factory Reset without decrypting !

I own a Samsung ON 7 phone and I was using a class 10 Sandisk memory card which was encrypted by the device in the lock screen and security menu and with no other third party software. Now I have done factory reset on my phone and accidentally forgot to decrypt the SD card, now SD card is detectable and all the files are there and visible as well. but i can't open any file. What to do, please help ! :crying:
Are you sure you have permissions set correctly? Can you just plug your phone into a computer with a USB cable and move the files over that way?
Also, those Sandisk SD cards are crap. I had a few of those cards and every 6 months they would fail and go read-only I/O error, never with more than 25% of the space used. Your card could just be being a Sandisk.
DIsclaimer: I don't actually know what Android uses for encryption, I assumed LUKS or something similar. It's possible that Android has the dumbest encryption scheme ever and lets you see the filenames in an encrypted volume, but that seems really unlikely.
I was in a similar situation recently and was looking for advice on the forum. I connected my SD card to a PC and restored the files using the Uneraser program. I think that this option can help many.

Adobtable storage, pros and cons?

When you use sd card as an adoptable storage, (galaxy s7) even when i wanna change my sim card, would removing the tray cause a serious system problems? Or is there a workaround. I wanna use adoptable storage to have some more space to install apps but this question in my mind prevents me from doing it.
Can anybody enlighten me with experiences?
Should you format adoptable?
Generally it's a bad idea which lots of manufacturers don't support, and for good reasons. For starters, you'll no longer be able to remove the SD card from the device. This is because Android will store system files onto it. Also, SD cards can only have data written to them a limited number of times. After they expire, your phone will not function properly. SD cards also perform much slower when formatted internally, and it can often cause apps to perform poorly and lag. Some apps won't even work at all, and any other device will not be able to use the SD card without formatting it itself.
Proceed at your own risk.

[Help] android 10 sd card photo recovery

I have a nokia 3.2 with android 10, one day the lcd suddenly has dead pixels. I took out the sd card and did a device reset(like the old days). Then I sent the device for repair.
A few days later I got the device back, but then I realized that the sd card cannot be recognized by the device or PC. I have learned that it may be encrypted. Is there anyway that I can get my photos back?
The picture in the attachment shows the image created from the sd card open in 7z. the "android_meta.img" contains no data inside.
Any help is appreciated. Thank you.

Thanks for the info. I am afraid I don't have the key anymore. Brute force maybe the only solution.
In case of unreadable SD card (not an encription problem) a distinction must be made between corrupted File System and physical failure. In the first case the raw data are still accessible and a recovery SW tool is able to restore the files, maybe assigning them arbitrary names such as "file0001". In the event of a physical failure, the SD internal memory chip may still contain data, but the electrical signals between the SD connector and the memory are damaged; in this case the data is irrecoverable. Fortunately, I found a German site https://recoverfab.com which, in practice, uses a Laser to open the SD, then connects the memory chip to an external circuit and retrieves the stored data. Of course, the operation has its cost, but if the data is really important it can prove to be a salvation.
