Stock phone won't charge on low battery - ONE Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

This week when my phone hits red (<15%), I plugged it in with stock charger, didnt work. Tried different phone cable/adapter and worked. I thought cable was defective.
Next day it went down to say 40%, tried stock charger and it worked. What's going on?
For the record it was the same wall outlet.

If you are sure that your cable and adapter are not defective, then the cause lies with the OS on your device.
When you plug-in the charger, measure the charging current via application like Ampere to check if your charger is actually giving you any output or not.
If the same charger is working fine on other device, then only option left is to perform a factory reset.

Why did it discharge, and why won't it charge anymore?

Two days ago, I turned my Infinity off and docked it. Both batteries were fully charged. A few hours ago I picked it up again, and the tablet wouldn't turn on.
I plugged it into the wall outlet. It started charging and I was able to turn on the device. It had 0% charge, and the batteries on the dock were also dead. What I don't understand is: how can the Infinity and the dock discharge completely in that time even though it was supposed to be off?
I left it plugged in so that I could use it while it charges. After some time, it asked me to connect the charger and then turned itself off due to almost dead batteries. Cable was still plugged in, though the charging light was off.
Tried connecting the cable to the dock, no light. Tried connecting the cable to my computer, it didn't work. So, the cable must be faulty, right? I can still turn the Infinity on, it'll boot normally and turn itself off after it's reached the lock screen. There's a red exclamation mark on the battery icon that wasn't there in the first time I turned it on, does it mean anything serious?
I had it drain to zero once overnight. Wasn't completely charged but it was strange... hasn't happened since in fact it generally has very good battery life.
I would definitely try a new cable and or charger.
Yeah, I've asked the store for a new cable. They'll have to mail it to me, so my tablet will stay dead for a few days. Now I know why propietary connectors suck.
Anyway, it seems I'm not the only one that had problems with the charger. Many people have reported overheating, but that never happened to me. The adapter that came with my Infinity seems to be a newer model; the plugs can't be folded or detached.
Charger: I had that happened several times to the SL101. Turned out I had something else plugged into the USB and the adapter was overloaded and tripped. Unplugged for a little while for it to cool down and reset itself.
What do you mean you had something else plugged into the USB?
Anyway, I've left my adapter alone for quite some time. I'll go see if it works as soon as I get home.

I was charging a small 700 mAh battery through the USB. That was enough to trip the AC adapter.

[Q] Won't charge

So I went to turn the screen on, noticed the battery was at 17%, then checked the battery info and it said it had been on battery for 3 days now (odd), so I tried to plug something else in the asus usb wall charger, didn't seem to be working, so I tried using my nook usb wall charger with the transformer (it was 2.0amp output i think), the transformer still wouldn't charge. Tried plugging it into another wall outlet, another house, a car, still won't charge. tried changing cables, did nothing. even tried changing the rom. was on paranoidandroid, then put back on cm10.
I didn't try changing the recovery (using TWRP) figured that wouldn't affect anything. When I turn the device off it does charge, but goes up by 1% every hour, or even less.
So I'm at a dead end on what is going on or what to do, anyone have any suggestions? I don't know if asus would still honor the warranty since I have it rooted or not.
Did you try wiping battery stats from CWM? If it comes to that, you can flash back to stock and Asus would be none the wiser.

Well like my original post says, I'm using TWRP and not CWM... but I'll have to reinstall CWM because TWRP sucks in terms of features. Doesn't even have that battery wipe option. I'm going to try to install CWM and try that but my battery is very low now (6%.)
As soon as I reinstalled CWM the device now says "charging" but it still won't charge. Device is at 3% battery now, lock screen says charging, but the status bar says not charging. Even tried wiping battery stats.

I have good news AND bad news. The good news is: You're not alone cause I have the exact same problem and it's not your software, cwm or rom. The bad news is: it's your usb cable. As described in this excellent thread, the TF101 needs at least 11v to charge. The wall charger by default charges with 5v, unless there is a 15v cable plugged in like usb3 cable which will short so the charger will know what's attached. Then it will give a 15v charge and the tab will charge. Unless your usb cable is broken, like mine. I've attached a pic of my usb cable, where the yellow wire has come loose and the circuit is broken. The charger will only charge with 5v and the only when the tab is turned off. For the fun of it I will try to solder it, but the easier (and much less frustrating) way is to buy a new one on ebay for a mere 4 dollar. Bought mine today, so I hope it will ship soon. Good luck!

Thanks for the information, I didn't realize the asus usb wall charger was rated at 15v = 1.2a, because here all this time i thought it was the amps that made the difference. Also I did had two asus usb cables. I plugged back in the original asus usb wall charger and the device says charging by ac now.
So I have confirmed my problem was when I flashed the TWRP recovery, for some reason it wasn't allowing the device to charge correctly, the CWM recovery works fine.

A510 won't charge

Since last night my a510 won't charge at all. There was a thunderstorm and a power cut and the charger was connected to the socket (a multi socket with several other items including a phone charger) but not to the tablet. When I plug it in now there's no indication that it is charging and the battery keeps going down. I tried with the phone charger also and a USB cable on the PC. While I know at best this would charge the tablet in 24 hours or so there was again not sign of charging at all.
Is it still most likely to be the Acer charger that's at fault or is there something else I could try?

edit: turns out it does trickle charge with a normal USB charger even if the charge light doesn't come on. Seems to be really hard to find a replacement for these though.

12V, 1.5 Ampere, I believe just about any electronics outlet should have something in stock. Original would be better, true. Get a surge-protected multisocket if your area is prone to bad weather.

The problem is the MicroUSB port on the tablet has an extra connector so I don't think it will be possible to use a normal microUSB cable with a 12V adapter.

I tried with another adaptor which has the right shape and 12V output and is supposed to be compatible but not joy. It might be the tablet itself but it's weird if it just stopped working overnight.

Fast charging stopped working

My S6 is 2 weeks old today and I noticed that fast charging (using adaptive charger I got in the box) has stopped working
Yesterday at work I put my phone on charge and went back to it after 20mins and noticed it had stopped charging.
I thought maybe it the 2pin plug point so I changed plug points and it starts charging.
Come back later and it stopped charging.
Changed plug point again and the same thing happened.
Getting irritated I put it on my wireless charge mat instead.
Today I decided to test the charger and low and behold it's now working but it's charging at the normal rate.
I tested this by using my old S4 charger and I got the same time to full message.
Before when I plugged in my adaptive charger it said fast charging now it just says "Cable charging"
Do you guys think it's my phone or my adaptive charger?
I don't have another adaptive fast charger to test with
EDIT: I was running XtreStoLite ROM, I used ODin and reloaded the latest AOD8 Vodafone SA firmware but still fast charging isn't working.
I'd say it's the charger. There have been instances of them shorting. The last Note 4 I had did the same thing.
Perhaps a silly question, but am I right in thinking that the fast charging only works when the battery is below 20% or so? I tried plugging mine in yesterday when at 40% charge and it just said 'cable charging' (using the out-the-box charger and cable)

When you use the fast charger, it'll say fast charging no matter how full your battery is.

Geez boet, how much does an S6 go for in SA?
I am having the same problem with my S6.
The fast charge doesn't work afree a week.
Last night I plugged in @ midnight with the original charger and cable at 5% and all apps shut down
It said "charging" and not "fast charging".
530am....only 97%.
This is pretty frustrating. It seems to have stopped in the last couple days.
Thoughts?
If you connect the USB cable to your PC and it detects your phone, it's proof that it's the adaptive charger. It happened to me on my Note 4, and I had it replaced with the warranty. Problem solved. Try it and you won't have any more problems. Garanteed!

Thanks - have now realised that I had to push the USB cable extra hard into the charger - that switched it from showing 'charging' to 'fast charging'

Oddly...when I connect it to my computer...it charges (slowly of course).
But the computer never detects it.
Update
@Biggenz the S6 32gig is around the R9000 mark
@BoondckSaint try another Adaptive Fast Charger, apparently even the Qualcomm ones work too. If it still doesn't fast charge take it into SCC.
@alanjrobertson my problem started out like that, I'd have to unplug and re-plug the cable in then it would work. Now more often than not it just doesn't Fast Charge
So, I took my phone in to Samsung Customer Care and after trying numerous chargers my S6 would just say "Cable Charging" and never show "Fast Charger Connected" in the notification bar.
They tested my charger on another S6 and S6 Edge and they both worked fine and Fast charge was working. Had the correct "Fast Charger Connected" in the notification bar too.
I had to leave my S6 there and they will repair it. The technician said it's either the USB connector is faulty or the mainboard needs replacing.
I'm abit disappointed now as my s6 is only 2 weeks old and it's already had to be booked in for repairs.
Hopefully no such issues for me - it seemed to be very much linked to the USB plug at the charger end not being the whole way in but will be keeping a close eye on it!

Have you tried depleting battery all the way down until S6 goes off by it self? Then charge it while is off all the way to 100% or leave it all night. Then see difference. Also one hint which is not quite related to your problem, but just for people to know. Fast Charging is NOT working from 50% and up to 100%. This is normal. So Fast Charge works from 0%-50%,NOT ABOVE!

The Samsung Care Center replaced the USB port on my phone and its fast charging again perfectly. Wasn't anything to do with the battery thankfully.
Before replacing the USB port the phone always showed "Cable charging" whenever it was plugged into the fast charger.
Now it shows Fast Charging in the notification area.
I am also having the same problem with mine it can be seen in odin but no mtp no matter which computer i use ... (yes drivers were correctly installed) also not showing fast charging with stock charger and about 4 different cables that i know work with it in the past. My phones been flashed will this void my warranty for usb repair ?

I took mine in and they fixed it. This was at the Samsung centre in my city. Took them a week because they didnt have any USB ports at their branch and had to wait for it to be couriered from Johannesburg
I'm having the exact same issue with my S6. Only a couple of months old and only showing Cable charging and intermitantly stops charging. I'd say definitely charging port. I've tried the samsung fast charger, the sony z4 tablet fast charger, my aukey quick charge 2.0 car charger and my aukey portable quick charge 2.0 portable battery. Bit annoyed
Same issue here. comp does detect it then it drops over and over. same with whatever charger im using or cord. 2 months old 920W8.
i see one of these in my future.........................

Nexus 5 won't charge (already changed battery and usb port board)

Hy guys, as you can read my phone suddenly started not to charge. One day i was chatting on whatsapp and suddenly the phone turned off with 5% of battery remaining. Since that moment the phone is not charging. I change the battery and the usb port board but it is still not charging. It recognises that the usb cable is plugged in but it doesn't charge... i tried to charge it while in bootloader, recovery or with the phone turned off.. Nothing worked. I don't want to factory reset it since i have 11% of battery holding at that level thanks to the charger. DO you guys have any ideas? thanks....

Try using stock charger and stock usb cable. I also had the issue stock usb cable fixed it.
I am using the stock charger but my stock cable is destroyed. I have another cable that is really good, I have always used it and I tryed also different cables but still not charging... It just can't stop charging from one moment to another because of the cable, that cable is perfectly fine. Thanks anyway Any other suggestion?

I know how these things works and I have already tried different chargers and cable and stock ones as well and it is not a problem of charger or cable. Any other useful suggestion?
Make sure that when you replaced the battery, all the cables were clipped back in right.
