Z3v nav bar keys - Xperia Z3 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

I am debating on getting the Z3v to hold me over for now until something decent comes out on Verizon, and while I can get a good deal on one I am used to the key layout of Samsung devices, with the back button on the bottom right side. I noticed the Z3v has it on the bottom left side, and I cannot find anywhere in the settings where I can customize the layout like you can with LG phones.
Is there any way of changing the key layout, preferably without root or modding?

Just giving people an idea.

Well since I don't know how to code I figure id throw out an idea and see if it catches on. I noticed on allot of these phones that have software keys, they don't have an option to hide them without some sort of hassle.
My idea is simple, make a mini pull up list similar to the drop down menu but only big enough to store your software keys that will overlay the screen instead of being a permanent part of it.
OR possibly make the bottom part where the app menu button is usually located, make it page scroll able like the way different home screens work and put the software buttons there.
That in my opinion would make for a very good looking UI that is stock feeling and simple while expanding your screen.
Expanded desktop mod does it better and already exists.

[Q] The software buttons on Android – are they customizable?

So with all the buzz around the new Xperia Z I am really impressed by it. So impressed I'm counting down the days until it becomes publicly available already. But I really dislike the software keys on Android as I'm just so used to the capacitive type and mapping them to whatever I so desire.
To be succinct about this – with a rooted Xperia Z will I be able to, for e.g. change the multi-task software button and make it a constant software menu button down in the control dock (if you will), similar to what I can do on the One X? I just tend to have all my quick apps on my first homescreen so I very rarely ever even use the built-in app switcher tiles and just go for the more conventional option of backing out to the home screen and then into what app I do so desire. Not to mention that having the menu button in all sorts of places on the display (some in the top right corner, others on the very bottom of the screen etc.) can get a little tedious and frustrating.
Thanks in advance.

Improve one handed usability by swapping back/recent keys!

First off, I know that doing this is looked down upon as samsungification by the Nexus master race and in the past I have agreed that it didn't make sense to have the Samsung style button layout. On this phone however, I've found that it drastically improved one handed usability for those who don't have huge hands (if you hold you're right handed). The buttons are in order of importance (back, home, and recents) going from easiest to hardest to reach with your thumb. I personally have to re adjust my grip to reach the left-most button one handed.
You can do this easily with gravitybox (swap back and recent keys).
I found it awkward at first (i kept instinctually hitting the recents button) and actually switched back because of that, but I found myself missing the reachability of the back button and now it's my full time set up. You get used to it within 2 days. Give it a chance, I bet you'll like it
One of the first mods I made with gravity box when I first got the phone. Having come from a samsung, I'm quite used to the back being on the far right. There's also an option in GB to add the overflow/menu button to the navigation bar. Most menus already have the menu or over flow accessible in one way or another, but this keeps it on the screen consistently.
You should really read through the themes and apps section.
Or you could get one of these: http://shop.flygrip.com/?ref=pg-home
Yes, they're expensive, but once you use one it's hard to imagine not having it.

Navbar and landscape

When you rotate the phone in "reverse landscape" (the USB port and LG logo are on the left), is the navbar on the left, or on the right?
Also, does the Q6 have the option to hide the navbar ("Hide home touch buttons"), like in this article: https://www.phonearena.com/news/LG-V30-navbar-customization-how-to-hide-LG-V30-navbar_id97742 ?
I am asking because Google, in 7.1.1 made a change, that the navbar is now "fixed" on one "physical" side. This is great if you use the phone while lying in bed on the right side, because your left thumb would be able to reach the buttons (pre 7.1.1, it was the reverse). Unfortunately, some brands that heavily customize the UI (like Huawei) don't respect this change, so having a large (and long 18:9) screen + the buttons on the opposite side of the thumb is a big usability issue...
LG ui definitely keeps the navigation bar at the bottom (LG logo) of the screen no matter which way the phone is oriented from my testing of a few apps
What about the "Hide home touch buttons" option? I downloaded the manual, but I didn't find any mention of it (maybe it was added in an update)?
no mention of hiding home buttons on the model i have been testing. (7.1.1 build NMF26X)

Navigation Bar Questions for a big screen

So I've gotten used to the swipe up gestures for the navigation bar over my past few phones but going to the fold 2, on the big screen, the swipe gestures are too far apart for convenience. I see that there is an option for the traditional nav buttons to be offset to the right or left but i don't see an option for swipe gestures to be offset to the right or left. Is this even possible? Either within the Samsung settings or even a third party app?
The swipe gestures are new to me... never used them on my last phone (Note 8). I'm getting used to it on the small and large screens. I thought about switching back to include the buttons, but then it takes some of the video away which I think defeats the purpose of spending all this money on a phone with a large screen.
It's quite a bit easier if you go into the navigation options and switch to the gestures where you swipe from the side for back and bottom for home. When you do that anywhere up on the bottom will take you home so you can make both gestures in the lower right or left corner of the screen.

Click to collapse
Thanks. I've been using this method. Although not my preference is the best option so far. I appreciate the recommendation.
It would be nice if they'd let us fiddle with the placement and type of nav gestures, it's true about any phone but I think more so with this one due to the form factor.
