Ask Away help threads - General Topics

Hi all,
this thread is started to give every device it's own Ask Away help thread. Although I cannot answer all questions about devices I do not own, I think this is a valuable addition to the XDA forum/services and hope that other members are willing to create these threads and thus answer questions about devices I do not own, that's what XDA stands for. I created a template for these threads, see the examples in post #2 and #3.. Really hope you are willing to use this template, cause it combines the best of two worlds: A very basic Q&A template and, whenever present, the Index Project for that certain device. Whenever you are prepared to use this, you will have all the information about a certain device you want and can get in one thread only..
When you decide to create a Ask Away help thread for a specific device, please place a link in this Ask Away thread, for two reasons:
1. So we know that such a thread exists and is created.
2. It can be added to post #8 of this thread. Thanks for your cooperation!!
BTW, if you want to start such an device specific Ask Away thread, create the thread in the Q&A section of that specific device!!
How to create an Ask Away help thread, using the template, see post #6 of this thread
BTW, the Portal team mentioned our Ask Away help threads in their News columns, see:
Portacle Article/Mention

Thank you kuzibri.
I started a thread to see how it is accepted
Sony Xperia Z3 Ask Away help thread.
Nice work, this looks promising:good:

How to use the template?
Hi all,
this is the template I use to create these threads (I publish the template of the Z1, the only things you need to change, when you want to use this template, is the name of the device, the link to an image of the device and the link to the "overview" of the device): And when there is an Index Project page of your device, you also need to change the link. BTW, what you also have to do is place at the beginning of each sentence CENTER and at the end of it
/CENTER and insert [ ] before and after it. Do not know how it happens, but all the time I adjust the template with these CENTER's (even after going Advanced), they disappear after saving the template.

Change of forum
Hi all,
there is a possibility that this thread will be moved from "General Discussion > About xdadevelopers.com" to the "Main XDA General forum", since there is much more traffic.
kindest regards, kuzibri
EDIT: thread moved to:
"I wanted to let you know that your thread Ask Away help threads has been moved from the About xda-developers.com forum to the General forum.
Thanks! "

Can't override the team in charge of this section, because they know why and how they want things stickied.. You'll have to PM this moderator on the matter for any further clarification, but I wouldn't worry about it either way, it's pretty visible.

Moved thread to General
Hi all,
since this thread is moved from "about developers, com" forum to the "genera"l one, there are no reactions anymore untill now, is this accidental or not? If you want to move it to back to the "about xda-developers,com forum" again, please let me know, I only changed the forum on a suggestion by someone, who suggested to me that traffic in the General section would be much more than in the "About" section. Not have seen this yet.

I am going to leave the thread here. It will get the same amount of traffic. If a thread is not getting too many replies, then it's just that it is not getting replies. You can see many threads in both forums that are very very active.
This thread is more informational than needing a whole lot of action anyways, someone can read it and if they want to use the template can do so without needing to reply in thread about it.
So how it is right now I think is fine.

That's fine, but realize this takes a lot of work to create, so you're not going to have a million people lined up ready to make one in 2 seconds and post here.

[Q] Where to start a thread about a new phone?

Hi,
I'm wondering where I could start a thread about a new phone that is not in the current list of phones?
E.g. I've got a ZTE STAR1 and it's going to be a nice baby to talk about, similar to the interesting XIAOMI.
thanks for your advices
cheers
Hello @lavive I have two possible answers for what you're trying to explain. You can start a discussion thread for your device in the General Android section. Please search before you start the topic as there may already be an existing thread. If you wish to have a specific sub-forum for your device you can suggest it here - http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1660354
Use the Thanks button if I helped

[Completed] [Q] AOSP can somebody explain this please

Hi, I'm interested in flashing my xperia z3 with a custom firmware that removes the bloatware from the xperia firmware. I understand it can do this with Sony's AOSP.
Can anybody explain what this is exactly please?
also, I cant seem to find any detailed update notes for this, is the only way to know the stability and functionality of the builds to actually flash your device?
Thanks
Hi
Thanks for writing to us at XDA Assist. Please note that XDA Assist isn't a general helpdesk area, our purpose is to point people who don't know where to post in the right direction. I can see that you've been posting in the Z3 device forum in the past, please continue to do so for any future questions you may have about your phone. Please also make use of the search feature on XDA, any question you could think of has almost definitely been asked and answered before. Please standby while we have your thread moved to the Z3 q&a section:

Good luck!

[Completed] Request for dedicated sub-forum for lenovo a7000

XDA has dedicated forums for specific phone models like
Sony Xperia Z4/Z3+
T-Mobile Galaxy S6 Edge
Moto X (2014)
etc.
I request the admin to create a new dedicated forum for lenovo a7000.
Currently the one which is being used is
http://forum.xda-developers.com/che...uest-cwm-twrp-recovery-lenovo-a7000a-t3102588.
and you can very well see that this thread is getting very disorganized as the number of replies is getting increased.
I hope the staff of XDA will consider my humble request and look into this matter.
Thanks

What is the recommended action for an old brand new Samsung GT-N8000

Hi,
How are you all
Please, I've realized that there is a sub-forum for each model of each brand.
Also realized that members got annoyed when anyone posted in the wrong forum, so I thought to post an introduction about my myself and ask about where to post.
I've searched for a forum for the device I want to ask about and did not find it.
I've tried google to find a sub-forum on the website but did not find it as well.
Please, I have an old Samsung brand new tablet that I want to make use of it.
I've used it several times and then forgotten about it in an old closet locker.
I've charged it to 100% and it did not report fully charged so I disconnected the charger after 2 full days of charging.
What is the sub-forum for:
Samsung GT-N8000,
Android V. 4.1.2,
Baseband V. N8000XXCLL1,
Kernel V. 3.0.31-1247182
[email protected]#1
SMP PREEMPT
Tue Jun 4 17:18:39 KST 2013
Build number : JZO54K.N8000XXCMF1
So, shall I do anything to make use of it?
many mentioned using cooked ROMs but many reported side effects for that behavior.
So, may someone help me with:
What is the right forum for my device?
What is the recommended action to do to make use of it?
Is it possible to download the application I want like MX Player, then upload it to the device to use it? as nothing wants to be updated from the google play store.
Thanks,
mgbsher

The Forum Rules can help:
15. Keep threads / posts on-topic
Whilst a minor amount of off-topic posting may be overlooked, the general rule is that your posts / threads must be relevant to the Forum / thread in which you are posting.
General Forums - For news and announcements relating to your device.
Q&A Help & Troubleshooting Forums - For all question / request threads and posts. If there is no Q&A Help & Troubleshooting forum, use the General Forum of the relevant device
Accessories Forum - For posts related to accessories relevant to the device
Development Forums (ones with the word development in the title) - For Developers to post release threads e.g. ROMs and Kernels including modifications to kernels, bootloaders, ROMs, etc., as well as R&D development discussion threads designed with an end goal
Themes and Apps Forums - For the posting of Themes and / or Apps as well as announcements & discussions including modifications made to Themes and Apps.

We can definitely move it, and that's preferred to duplicate posting. Our moderators are split up among different sections, and I don't have mod permissions in this section, but I've submitted a report myself so one of my colleagues will take care of this when they're available.

As said a question goes here for all models .
You can download APK for applications and copy on to tablet or sd card .
apkmirror and other sites .
Does there is any custom trusted ROM to be used?
Or I just do the factory reset and use APK?
Thanks a lot.
I would start by flashing latest stock rom via Odin .
samfirmware , samsung-updates etc for stock firmware .
