Nexus 5 won't turn on after trying a failed stock rom installation - Nexus 5 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

So, here's the situation:
I flashed a custom ROM to my nexus 5 and was using it for the last few months. But today, I decided to rollback to latest stock ROM. And I double clicked "flash-all.sh" and it failed after few seconds. I could not see what happened so I again ran the executable under terminal and seen it failed again. I just remmebered that I hadn't unlocked the bootloader before running the script. Now, the phone is not turning on at all. It only vibrates if I hold the power button for some seconds, 6 seconds actually and if I hold the button for longer times, it keeps vibrating every 6 seconds.
I am not even getting the Google logo thing.
What can I do to resolve the issue?
EDIT 1:
I guese fastboot is working;

yes, I just noticed that I can see the black and blank screen turning on on some occasions and a little light on it. But no, text or picture on it. However, It's turns on only when connected to PC.
But, I don't think it lights up every times when it vibrates though.
And I just tried to reflash everything using "flash-all.sh" and it seemed like it worked this time. Here's the log that I got:

But, even after this the screen did not show anything at all. So, I pressed the power button and it vibrates and then I connected to wall charger and it just did the back light thing once and then light went off again.

I want to ask you to try out lg flashtool method, but I see you are using Linux. Do you have a windows PC? If you happen to have then please flash any stock rom with fastboot mode, but LMY48B. Because in LMY48B the download mode got disabled. Then check my signature you will find the guide for lg flashtool there

Ahh! this seems weird. I just made a call to the number that's still in the nexus 5 and I could hear it ringing. Also, I connected to windows PC and it appeared as "Nexus 5" under "Portable Devices" in devices manager. I can also access the internal memory of the devices via MTP.

hi ! do you try the nexus root toolkit ,i do sometime super wrong and with that i fix it and running like new

nexus root toolkit is probably just a GUI thing for what I have been trying under terminal, if I am not mistaken. So, I doubt that is gonna do anything.

Just did that and that did not work either. Display is still blank. I did the flashing successfully according to the logs I got in LG flash tool.

Indeed. And if you will see my second post's log file, you will know I have access to bootloader. Only thing is happening is nothing on the display, still display turns on.
Cleared cache, full reset from bootloader and recovery. No luck.
Any more answers???

[Q] Nexus 5 CM just spins, will not boot, adp push to phone, device not recognized

I installed CM on my Nexus 3 and 10 without incident.
I unlocked and installed CM and clockwork recovery on my Nexus 5 but when I booted into CM, nothing happened except that the CM logo just spun until I turned the phone back off. I wanted to go back to the factory image but despite sudo fastboot devices showing that it was connected, sudo adb push [image].zip /sdcard/ I just got device not found.
I removed android-tools-adp and android-tools-fastboot and reinstalled thinking there might be a driver issue but that has not resolved the problem.
Looking for a way to get either the stock 4.4 or CM 11 working.

I downloaded hammerhead-krt16m-factory-bd9c39de.tgz (md5sum: 3a7b6cb66f8ec20edf661aee2d73d3a4) from hammerhead-krt16m-factory-bd9c39de.tgz, which I assume is the download site from developers dot google dot com images#hammerheadkrt16m.
When I tried to send the files with fastboot yesterday, it just hung.
I downloaded everything again this morning and got a different md5sum (36aa82ab2d7d05ee144d18546565cd5f) and instead of trying to manually fastboot the files over I executed the script

I guess I had a corrupt download then. Thanks for the help.
Any idea why I could boot into Clockwork but CM just hung? Any additional things to try? Will CM boot without a SIM card?
On the plus side while messing around with trying to get this fixed, I stumbled on a way to get my new nvidia drivers working for the EVGA GTX650 I bought to power my twin 27" displays, so I guess that is also a plus!
same but now works
I just reinstalled recovery again and cm 11.

[Q] Can't flash anything via fastboot or otherwise

I flashed a modified 44s ota over a 33r ROM (stock) file to my device and lost the ability to boot. Whenever I try to flash via fastboot I get the error: "FAILED (remote: partition table doesn't exist)"
Does anyone have a way of repairing this? Would love to start using this device again. Thanks in advance :good:

Do this at your own risk:
Go into fastboot and flash 38R. (Available at current time on cygen's site) Flash everything including userdata. Reboot and you should be at the home screen. Then when you are here ota update through settings. Not recommended to modify ota, just do it after the ota if possible. (You might have to unlock the bootloader to follow this guide)

I don't think that's going to work, he's borked his partitions. And the modified OTA wasn't technically the problem. The problem is that he flashed an OTA on top of an incorrect preceding build. It should have gone 33>38>44 but instead went 33>44. Because it was a modified OTA with a modified installer script, the safeguard that would normally stop such a mistake from happening had been disabled. Modified OTA's are perfectly fine, as long as you take them in the right sequence.

He still has access to fastboot which means he can reflash stock firmware.
Not with borked partitions.

Shouldn't it work with the Official signed 44s Fastboot Image that was released yesterday by Cyanogen?
Not if the partitions are borked. It can't flash to a partition table that doesn't exist. It's like trying to serve dinner onto thin air, it has nowhere to go.
Transmitted via Bacon
And there will be no way to repartition? Guess that something like using parted should work on nand, assumed the right partition tables are known...
It's possible, but getting it done can be tricky. I myself have zero experience in trying to repartition.
Transmitted via Bacon
Note to self: triple check the version numbers before flashing lol
Sorry op I have no constructive feedback

@timmaaa you were correct I attempted that and it failed. I resolved my problem by flashing calkulin's stock mod 44s. I've come across another issue now. Occasionally the devices screen won't come on at all. I'll have to completely reboot the phone for it to work. Is this an issue on 44s or is there another problem under the hood?

I am running CM11 nightlies, and this issue happens to me (and also on my nexus 5 using milestone builds) ONLY when I am using the Ondemand governor. If you're using that, try changing and see what happens.
Ah yes I am using ondemand. I switched it from interactive last night. Didn't think of that thanks I'll test it.

Hello,
I need some help with a Oneplus One that is stuck on the Cyanogen boot image. I bought this for cheap thinking that I could fix it, but 3 hours later still no luck. I have access to TWRP and Fastboot, which made me hopeful, but no access to the storage on the device.
1. TWRP: I can’t mount /data, /cache/ persist (shows E:Unable to mount ‘/data’, etc). I can mount /firmware or /system.
Trying to sideload a bunch of different roms gives me this in the command prompt:
Code:
C:\Program Files (x86)\Minimal ADB and Fastboot>adb sideload cm12.zip
loading: 'cm12.zip'* daemon not running. starting it now on port 5037 *
* daemon started successfully *
error: device not found
2. Fastboot: trying to flash individual files with fastboot gives me “remote: flash write failure”. I’ve also gotten a “partition table doesn’t exist” error.

From what I've read, I think Heisenberg will say that the partitions are borked, but I'm hoping I'm a little luckier than others who do not have access to fastboot or twrp. Any suggestions?

From what I've read, I think Heisenberg will say that the partitions are borked, but I'm hoping I'm a little luckier than others who do not have access to fastboot or twrp. Any suggestions?

I messed up my One by deleting stuff I should not have... it would not read the internal "sd card" memory at all... so nothing would flash to the phone. I had fastboot and TWRP working. I tried this kit and it only partially worked for me, but did get recovery going. What I did get to work is by connecting an on-the-go cable to it and put the files to flash on a flash drive. The phone will find it in TWRP if you set it up to read the OTG cable. Then flash away something that will boot up... then go from there with the ROM you want to use. Using the Caulkin's ROM mentioned earlier will get it at least running. This worked for me, and may work for you too.

That won't work in this situation, he hasn't merely deleted everything, the partition table is borked.
Thanks for the reply. I'd previously read that, but thought it didn't apply because I have fastboot and recovery. I'm trying it now, but I can't get the device to show up in Device Manager. The phone goes to the charger screen when connected and it shows up as MTP USB Device. I tried seeing if it would show up on the downloadtool.exe he mentions, but no go.

NEXUS 5 Stuck @ Boot Animation, Possible EMMC Failure?

Hi guys,
I woke up to find my Nexus off, still plugged in, which was strange. When i tried to turn it on, the Google Logo appeared, then the 4 Dots as per Marshmallow Boot animation...only they remained there 35 mins after I attempted to put on the phone.
I figured something was up with the boot, so I left it for a while after restarting, but and it was still stuck.
Since then I've tried reloading Stock Roms, (From KitKat to Marshmallow), installing custom recovery and trying anything I could find online to try to get this to work, but sadly I haven't been able to.
If i try to Reset, I get failed messages on some partitions.
I'll attach some logs showing the messages from some of these attempts.
Can anyone assist or help diagnose?

Yup, I tried flashing Stock Roms aka Factory Images for KitKat, Lollipop and Marshmallow as indicated in my original post.
Did you flash the userdata.img file and immediately boot to recovery to perform a factory wipe before booting the rom for the first time?

I did, and this also produces the Fails as before.
Could be a failed emmc issue.
If erasing the cachce, userdata, and factory reset don't work, it doesn't look good for the memory chip.

I had similar issue but at least I could boot into bootloader to do this :
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2513701
I had the failed also then went to step 2 and did that:
fastboot erase boot
fastboot erase cache
fastboot erase recovery
fastboot erase system
fastboot erase userdata
fastboot flash bootloader C:\image-hammerhead-krt16m\bootloader.img
fastboot reboot-bootloader
fastboot flash radio C:\image-hammerhead-krt16m\radio.img
fastboot reboot-bootloader
fastboot flash system C:\image-hammerhead-krt16m\system.img
fastboot flash userdata C:\image-hammerhead-krt16m\userdata.img
(Note: this command will wipe your device (including \sdcard), EVEN if your bootloader is already unlocked.)
fastboot flash boot C:\image-hammerhead-krt16m\boot.img
fastboot flash recovery C:\image-hammerhead-krt16m\recovery.img
*tip* Substitute lastest images by dragging and dropping them into cmd window, tip** hit arrow up on keypad to enter in last text to save a bunch of typing
It took FOREVER to boot but it did come back. BUT I have weird fc's and rando0m turn offs so I suspect new phone is coming.
I did phone the google and they connected me with LG for a repair option which will come back in max 9 days but I think even 100 bucks or whatever the cost ( they will phone with tally ) is more than the phone is worth.
Read the whole of the link I sent and Thank abaaaabbbb63 for his work

Now when I boot up my phone it goes into the black screen with 'Google' on it then it turns off for a second then back to the Google screen and then it boots into custom recover (TWRP). What can I do to fix this? Thanks in advance.

Is it possible to do that without wiping my data?
Yes, just don't flash userdata.img or wipe.
Before flashing, you might want to use twrp to back up data or copy files to your computer, then flash.

Thanks! Hopefully this works. I've never done anything with fastboot though. I'll look it up later.
I have not used kits to flash stock rom, I always do it manually to learn the process.

Not being able to install ROM LOS 17. 1, stuck in TWRP

HI All , I need some help . Since I did manage to get a new battery for my broken n5, I decided to get onboarded with LOS17.1 .
Managed to get the 3.4 TWRP HH from @z3DD3r and followed the repartition process. However I am not able to enable adb, nor can I abd sideload , everytime I try to sideload I get an error 7.
Furthermore I cannot mount data partition , nor does the OTG cable work i.e. nothing comes up in my comp. I did install Google drivers / CWM USB drivers, and I do see Google nexus ADB interface popping up in the device manager(win10) however nothing gets listed as a storage/MTP device. I did try searching but not being able to get the solution . I am not able to move beyond this .
N5 doesnt have a sdcard slot either . Can any one advise how to get the LOS zip and gaps into the storage ? Only thing which is working is TWRP HH recovery from @z3DD3r. I will appreciate any help . Let me know if I need to post this in another thread. Thank you
I am not able to mount /cache and /system - it says failed when I wipe or format them .
I only have /data which can be mounted . I have searched and have seen that its to do with partition tables. Any way to get back the partition table done ?
I have checked the following links -

Wipe -> Advanced Wipe -> Check "Cache" -> Repair or Change File System -> Repair File System
If that doesn't help, do it:
Wipe -> Advanced Wipe -> Check "Cache" -> Repair or Change File System -> Change File System
If your cache partition does not have ext4, set ext4.
If your cache has ext4, change it to FAT and restore it to ext4 when finished.
If something succeeds, repeat the steps for the system partition.
Good luck with the repair. :good:
Did You manage to find the solution?
Thanks , however with TWRP I get error 16 unable to repair system , same thing with cache , neither can I change the filesystem , since I think the partitions dont exist

Nope, need a way to repartition as per stock .
I tried looking into various places and used the following site to get into the partition table using parted .
https://iwf1.com/how-to-re-partitio...ll-options-included-change-size-fs-type-etc/2
I followed instructions and found that cache, crypto and system partition were missing . Created the partitions and also managed to change the fs for two of them .
I referred to this page as well to know what partitions are available and what are their usual sizes.
https://forum.xda-developers.com/go...guide-repartition-nexus5-to-increase-t3509880
After all - I did a flash-all , it went through luckily . However somehow I am stuck in bootloop. Then I tried flashing twrp again , and my partitions are gone . Parted doesnt recognize my disk at all .
So close by yet so far

Finally managed to get into and redo parted , changed user fs to ext4. Ran flash all - boot.sig, recovery.sig, vendor img missing , however it ran successfully .
Tried to reboot , it booted up but got stuck at boot , the android 6 factory boot animation came up , but got stuck and switched off . Any workaround ?
Went into parted again - removed userdata partition and redid i.e. made a partition and changed the filesystem to ext4, then came out and flash-all stock , stuck in bootloop , is there any problem with the installation ?

Finally got all partitions working, being able to wipe all partitions through twrp.
All partitions are mounting
Factory image not booting, so trying crdroid 7.1.2
Installs pretty quickly the 350mb file.
However stuck with Google logo, not moving to the boot animation.
Any help will be appreciated.
Need to check power button , since that is also another issues which N5 users have faced and boot loop or getting stuck at boot solution has been replacing the power button/ switch
Closing the thread - Motherboard issue , thanks everyone for your help.
