How do I root and install recovery on the new 5.1 stock update? - Xperia Z3 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

23.4.A.0.546 - D6603 - Locked Bootloader
Thanks

you'll need to downgrade to a rootable firmware then use one of the pre-rooted zip files for 5.1.1

Lolipop update - Radio/Bootloader?

Just wondering if the Lolipop update brings any updates to the baseband radio and bootloader etc?
If so - anyone know if there is a way to upgrade these without OTA or Flashtool upgrade, I'm using Rooted LB and will need to use a pre-rooted FTF

Click to collapse
There is no such thing as a pre-rooted FTF
What you need is a flashable zip and there are plenty in the development section
Sorry, pre-rooted created from FTF
either way OP still unanswered.

Update lollipop firmware without downgrade to KK?

Is there a faster way to update the firmware without flashing KK, rooting and then reflashing the prerooted new firmware? Is this possible without loss of data?
Yes, just flash a lollipop FTF using flashtool.
If you want to keep root, just install recovery and flash a pre-rooted lollipop zip.
If you are currently not rooted and want root after update then you need to downgrade, root, install recovery and flash a pre-rooted lollipop zip
thanks!

Update latest version without losing root

question regarding 5.1 update on xt1033 (rooted, BL unlocked)

hello XDA.
I have a first gen motoG (xt 1033, india) and I'm on stock 5.0.1 ROM
BootLoader is unlocked and the device is rooted.
I was having trouble updating to 5.1 from the OTA update as after the download the device was getting crashed at the reboot, with the update error.
if i donwload the update file (Retail Asia 5.1 Stock ROM (Optimized) v1.0 (337mb) by lost 101 and istall from recovery:
1. would it clear all my data nd installed apps as opposed to the OTA in which existing apps and data is preserved?
2. would i have to root again?
The new lollipop OTAs check for all of /system and require it to be unchanged. I recommend you to flash the untouched version or install an Asia Retail Firmware through fastboot.
EDIT - Yes you can flash the ROM you will have to lose your data but the optimised version comes with root.

Steps for unlock BL and root for 5.1.1

Hi
I want to unlock my bootloader and root my M2. So i should do that in this order?
1. Downgrade to 4.4.4 from 5.1.1
2. Unlock the bootloader
3. Update of bootloader (?)
4. Flash 5.1.1
5. Root 5.1.
Is that right or i should do something more or less?
You don't need to unlock the bootloader just for root. If your gonna downgrade to KK just flash a pre-rooted zip via recovery on rooted KK
But i want 5.1.1 with root so if i downgrade and root i will not be able to update to 5.1.1 (cause when you have root - you can make update and if you flash the newest firmware root will disappear).
I thought that downgrade is necessary for unlocking bootloader thats why i mentioned about downgrade.
I just want to have rooted 5.1.1 because i need to delete lot of garbages from the apps and other personalisations.
So flash a pre-rooted 5.1 zip via recovery on rooted KK(this is what I've done to get rooted 18.6.A.0.182 5.1on LB ). Or update to 18.6.A.0.182 then use the dodgy kingroot app to root then change kinguser to supersu. Unless you want to use cm or omni custom roms it's pointless unlocking the bootloader when root is available on locked bootloader
I think this thread about PhilZ recovery is perfect for me http://forum.xda-developers.com/xperia-m2/development/d2303-philz-touch-recovery-6-t3047492
Thank you for help!
Yes it's a good working recovery. Used to use it myself
