OE1 Odin TAR available! - Verizon Galaxy S 5 General

The OE1 build is available for download as full firmware in Odin TAR format. Check the link below. But know that if you flash this, you won't be able to root your device.
If you want root, and OE1 update, then use Muniz_ri's how-to thread here.

so far i'm happy with the phone. i'm coming from an incredible 4g... which i loved. i miss the smaller size - but went with the s5 vs the s6 due to the battery/sd card. sorry i'm late to the game on this phone.... really i can't complain since foxfi works for tether - that was a huge deal and i'm pretty happy i don't need root for tether! that would have been a deal breaker for me. everything else i can live with if necessary.... but root would sure be nice for some functionality tweaks!

Well, you could just flash everything in it except the bootloader ... This is why I hate using odin. Heimdall is much more convenient for this sort of thing. The latest release doesn't work with the s5 though, needs additional patches (which are available). I have never built anything on windows before, only linux. I should see if I can whip something up.

You sir are awesome! Definitely the biggest progress so far that we have gotten out of all this work. Whoever leaked this for us a BIG thanks to them. Just one step closer to full unlock the way I see it (and one step closer to someone picking up that bounty).
By the way, where did you find that version of CWM? Does it work properly with this Verizon variant and for stock roms as well?

I haven't been able to revert from the EC bootchain. Odin complains about the md5 of the LF2 and LG1 bootchains.
Forcing an Odin flash causes aboot to trip the security check.

Just a different method. This one gets you custom recovery before root whereas the other gets you root before custom recovery.
You'll pretty much end up in the same place at the end of either one.

Will this method be harder to patch than the GS3FSRoot or will they both likely be patched easily?
Why would they be patched? Verizon is already taking a beating over the bootloader from Samsung.

S7 Snapdragon Battery Blues

Hey guys,
So I'm running a stock S7 (AT&T) and have read tons of threads about how to fix battery drain, etc etc. And I'm not finding any great result.
I've tried different debloats and dumbing down lots of system settings, but haven't found that sweet spot yet. I know disabling some things can end up causing further drain, so maybe I'm doing it wrong.
Has there been any definitive solution to fixing the Android System drain? Mine is constantly 30% or more drain at the end of the day.
Any help is greatly appreciated!

API2 has an updated bootloader. You can't downgrade to any other version of the AT&T firmware unless it's Bootloader 4... This is what I meant when I said "You can't go back."

I read everything over and i see what you're talking about. Download and flash all updates besides the BL which is the bootloader... But I'm trying to get away from the battery drain. Should I flash a previous firmware instead of the current for better battery life?
Also, what's the big benefit of having an older bootloader? So you can upgrade and downgrade at will?

Up to you... The SkipSoft tool is nice because it automates steps necessary...Including the above link linked. Personally I manually do it, as I'm not running TWRP quite yet. It's still in its infancy and want the ability to sideload OTA's if I see fit.
SkipSoft tool can revert you back to the stock recovery, so you can still do what I've suggested. You just have to go through a few more steps. If this is your first time and you're not comfortable yet...Then use SkipSoft

I'm good with manually doing it, just wasnt sure which link I should be using. first or second. Guessing the second link. Then its a matter of using adb, no? This way dont have to deal with twrp and still get root, and get OTA updates.
Also, non of this requires me to unlock the bootloader right?

2 things...Yes you have to have an unlocked bootloader. And you cannot take the December update before unlocking the bootloader if you're not on a Google phone. Is. Verizon, T-Mobile, etc 7.1.1 does not have a bootloader exploit.
I have root on 7.1.1 with tether mod and a few other goodies. But I unlocked the bootloader prior to updates
**EDIT** I stand corrected on the models. Doesn't have to be a "google" phone, but I do know Verizon and T-Mobile have restrictions for DePixel8

If you have Verizon then you had to be on 7.1 when you unlocked. You can't unlock once on 7.1.1. if the update was in the middle of installing you got extremely lucky that you unlocked before it installed

Correct, the short answer is no, but to expound slightly as to why and put you on the right track.
The bootloader needs to be unlocked on the Verizon variant (like the one I have) to gain root. However, the latest security update (December) patches for the exploit that we used to unlock the bootloader (DePixel8. ) So if you didn't unlock your bootloader prior to receiving the update, there are no current ways to unlock. Thus leaving ROOT a no go for now. You'll have to wait for the next bootlocker exploit.

I stand corrected on the models then. I have the VZW variant and knew there were limitations. I would have to go back and look, but maybe Verizon and T-mobile are the only ones...of course there may be others. Either way, yes, you have to have the bootloader unlocked prior. Happy Modding!

There is no Sprint variant. There is a Google variant and a Verizon variant and that's it. If you have the Google model the bootloader can be unlocked any time. If you have a Verizon model you can ONLY unlock bootloader when it's on 7.1. if you update to 7.1.1 before unlocking you will not be able to unlock.

Does the tetherless mod link I sent you work on the Sprint Pixel? I've not been back to the thread in a while.

Havnt tested it yet. I know theres that one and isnt there one where you just edit the build.prop? Or maybe that one doesnt work compared to this other one? I'm still researching the hotspot and reading so I dont mux this up the first time around.

I'm in Verizon variant and the build prop edit works good. But I unlocked boot loader before 7.1.1

Seem like I remember reading that this method has a couple of drawbacks, including losing it after updates. The systemless TetherMod I linked is "supposed" to withstand OTA's updates, which is important to me at this point. I installed it on 7.1, sideloaded the OTA to 7.11, rerooted and was off and running again.

Yea I learned that the hard way. I couldn't take the 7.1.1 ota until I flashed back to stock. But I have read if you just change the build prop back you can. I think I'm going to try that other method. I guess it is there forever and can withstand the ota's . I think anyways. Haven't tested it yet.

[Snapdragon]New OREO Leak w/ March Security Patch Build ARC6

Close thread
Is this a downgrade? Bc my screenshot is from just now and it's the unlocked us variant running the same build it shipped with but has had an update waiting to be installed for about a week. And my number Is higher than yours.
BEWARE!! Thats a new boot loader... v2! you wont be able to do a full factory restore until a v2 bootloader odin file is released.
That being said, how do you like it? any differences?

@AndroidDevices: Could you check something for me? Download AIDA64 from the Play Store, go into the app, select "Display" and look for a date. What is it?

You will probably be waiting quite awhile.... As I stated in my thread, little to NO devs are working on root for the s9/+... I've seen one Korean user mention he was trying in another forum for us SD users, and ONE other guy... That's it, just 2 people and myself. Don't expect anything before Christmas.
The only member (SAMFail creaters) i know working on ROOT doesnt have the device but has a tester... Its gonna be a while...
Dude, dont post these. I roasted you enough on reddit. The basics, these are bad updates to use unless I can verify them before. Bl updates are dangerous. Also just dont use them dude, the website could be shut down any day because of people like you.

Why are these bad updates?
These updates from sam firm science allowed a lot of us to get onto oreo beta. If you know how to recover your phone why is this a problem. OP explained the risk with the bootloader.

Because NEVER do bl updates. Btw check my post history, I did Note8 Oreo. Also I work with the dude who makes the site. I know this stuff. That's why I am saying it's a bad idea.

Actually, cancel that, he is no longer trying root methods SAMFail has been PATCHED! So, it gonna be even longer until ROOT....
I may just go to international S9+ if there root seems like a false hope on the SD variant. The only issue would be VoLTE and WiFi calling, oh and Samsung suddenly restricting call recording apps on international variant. I tried flashing those Engboot from other thread with no luck btw.

"NEVER" do BL updates is a bit dramatic, don't you think?
