Abnormal battery drain - Galaxy S6 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

I have a 20 day old galaxy s6 duos. It was bough new off ebay. I was functioning properly and when on holiday I dropped it onto a tiled concrete floor from a height of 2-3 feet.
Since then the battery has been draining abnormally.
I have disabled apps still no joy. Then ran the phone in safe mode with no improvement. Then did a reset using software with no improvement. Then wiped cache but still no joy. Then wiped cache and hardware reset. Finally disabled all apps and forced stopped a few more. Put the phone in airplane mode but despite that the phone is drains 10 %per hour with the phone not being used.
No apps running on the battery usage screen the only thing shown is device idle 1 %. .
I cant understand how dropping the phone can cause the battery to malfunction . Any ideas or suggestions ? Or something else I should be trying.
I wish it was easy to change the battery but that is not the case . I just wanted to see if anyone else has suggestions before I go down the route of replacing the battery.
Many thanks in advance.
Can

Try flashing stock 5.1.1 ROM via odin.

Thanks for the reply, It is already running android 5.1.1 baseband version G920FXXU2BOFJ . I dont understand the rest.
Do you think it worth reflashing the phone still ? Happy to provide more information.

Try Installing soju factory image from google. I did a clean install wiping dalvic chache as well and my battery is awsome since then and I never disable google now. See in the attached screenshot how flat battery consumption curve when I am not using it.

I did the samething after getting terrible battery life due to an AudioOut_2 wakelock that never let my phone idle, and the same thing still happens. I'm wondering if a hardware malfunction could cause screwy behavior like this.
Just do "proper clean install", it should help.
Agree with clean install. ROM and kernel choice have a lot to do with battery drain also.
Was this a one time thing or the norm for your phone? If a one time thing wouldn't worry too much but would still shop for ROMs and do a clean install.
I have started using Juice Defender and LUX and my battery life has increased exponentially its features should help any ROM kernel combo.

i had a problem with android os sucking the life out of my battery, all was ok for about a week after i installed jb but then my battery life sucked. rather than do a clean instal i turned off auto sync for a couple of days then switched it back on again, since then my battery life has been good and android os has hardly used up any battery. might be worth while trying this first
Yeah. Full wipe is a last resort. At least if you figure out what actually caused it, you can prevent it from happening. I remember my Nexus S had this weird bug where if I put the phone in air plan mode and didn't disable auto sync, the phone would never properly sleep. Never had that issue on any other phone.
Its sometimes ROM related....codename ROM I get high android is but not with androxide

You have network disabled... Off course it does not drain!
I cannot tell much about your device setup since not all the details were given, But even my Sprint Nexus S 4G had horrible battery issues. The stock gingerbread was a joke, then the stock ICS did improve to do a couple more hours. Now running an rooted JB and it seems to do 1day and 3 hours at this time.

Google Now
Turning off Google now is what fixed the battery drain for me. Tried other things but only this worked.

Wierd Battery Issue : Help Needed

I am running mokee open source 4.4.2 roms and am constantly having trouble with battery.
It shows vague levels...i charge it from 10% onwards...and it gradually goes to 60% or so and then suddenly jumps to 100% showing battery is full.
The recovery sometimes shows the original level as 60%..but rom shows 100%.
Then the rom discharges at 1% per 2 minutes or so and i just cant get any backup as in reality it never gets fully charged. :-/
I have tried callibrating it after numerous factory resets via various playstore battery callibration apps.
I have wiped the system everytime i have flashed a rom.
I have tried discharging it and then charging it while ita off.
I have tried bump charging.
Still it gives 7-8 hours backup while people get 3-5 days of backup on idle mode.
On idle mode even..my tab loses 10-12% in 2-3 hours.
Tab is 7 months old so i think battery doesnt needs to be replaced or any hardware issue.
Can anyone...anyone please help me..?
Please Suggest any method other than the ones i have tried.
Thanks
Edit:
I have even tried Greenify to check the background apps..but in reality the battery goes down on even very light use such as messaging or checkin xda updates.
Anyone..?
This meight help if you are on P51XX : http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=50677996&postcount=788
Else:
Got into advanced wifi-settings and disable wifi to be on all the time, also disable networknotification if you don't need them.
Thanks but i have a P3100.
I have already disabled wifi when sleeping.
Running powersave and noop on 300-1008 mhz.

Try flashing new kernel for your device.
Did you overclock the processor?
I once extended the preload with the help of a kernel., and when I restarted, cwm was unable to mount preload.
so I resetted the default settings of the kernel tweak app and den everything went fine like before.
Thanks for the reply.
I had once tried agni PureCM any rom kernel and i think that the issue was gone but i dont remember exactly and moreover i want to remain on stock mokee to get OTA.
People are gettin 3-5 days backup on stock.
I am running stock 300-1008 mhz on powersave and noop.
Also i just wiped preload once..could that be an issue.?
And wouldn't formattin the whole device and flashing the rom from scratch would reset the kernel settings to default..?
Here's a logcat if its of any use.

I don't think wiping the preload will cause a battery issue.
Yes formatting the whole device should reset the kernel to its default settings.
Are you sure it is not a hardware problem?
Try to check it on any other similar device if you have.
Okay mate.
So i dont have any other tab 2...but my bro has it and he doesnt has this issue as far as i know.
But even i didnt have this issue until 2-3 weeks.
The only real culprit i can think is it might be the cable.
As yesterday pc gave me a code 43 error and i could not connect the tab howsoever i tried.
On 4.4.2 mokee..what should i do with such stats..?
Running greenify...and wifi sleep is enabled..completely formatted the tab and still this issue.
Since battery didnt dropped while it was on sleep..i dont think there is any hardware problem.
Any idea mates..?
@raamishmk same happens with mobile data turned off? can you tell me when it started?
Mobile data is always turned off mate..that stat is for sim network only.
And it started almost 3-4 weeks ago.
Also..i bought a new factory cable and the issue remains..so the faulty cable was not an issue.
Tab is 8 months old now..maybe the battery has possibly died..?
It's a battery issue.. Happen with me as well.. Replace ur battery under Warranty otherwise it will cost u 1600 INR rupees..

Battery life greatly getting worse

Has anyone noticed their battery getting incredibly worse over time? I bought my S7 on release (non edge). And since then, I've noticed that it doesn't last no where near as long. Today, for example I started my day at 7:00am when the battery was 100%. As of 30 minutes ago, the battery reached critically low (5%). From 7am all I did was watch a few videos, facebook, snapchat and then play music. But all the above for not too long.
I've also noticed that once the phone hits the 15% battery (I know due to the notification), that within minutes the battery can be done to 10% or so, without touching it.
I'm more so tempted just to take it back, unless there's an easy fix OR it's a known issue with the current version.
Thanks!

I've definitely noticed this since rooting. Maybe it has something to do with that? Like a ROM you flashed or what not? I'd like some suggestions here as well.
Thanks!

I haven't rooted the S7, it was the first phone that I've left stock from opening.
What does the battery stats say is using the most mAh?
Facebook app is a known battery hog
Obviously over time, you'll install different things, and slowly the phone will start using more and more power running background apps
A backup and Factory reset will show if there is a hardware / battery issue, or if it's purely from stuff you've installed over time
Also clearing the caches from recovery could help
yeah ive noticed this too. My usage habits havent changed but my battery life is almost half of what it was when i just got the phone.

Cache has been cleared from recovery, and I don't generally install many apps so since I've bought the phone the apps have stayed the same.
Android system is always on top. Unless of course I spend hours on Facebook.
Might have to factory reset. I've used my phone with the same apps and time since I've bought it, and I'm finding I'm charging it 3x as much.
I think it's a root issue - deep sleep.
After S6 Edge Plus, when you root a samsung phone, it won't go in deep sleep. I believe there's a fix for that.
Have you checked the battery usage stats? It gives you the breakdown on what apps are eating up the battery.
I have had my S7 for about a month and battery is about the same.
Just to update this thread for those that may have a similar issue...the other day I couldn't live with the battery life the way it was. The phone used 50% in several hours where I barely used it.
Decided to completely re-flash with stock (was stock before) as opposed to simply wiping all data. A week in, and the phone's battery life is back to the way it was. I went to bed when it was on 100% (as a test) and woke up 7 hours later with the phone on 94%, with wifi, location and bluetooth on.
Not sure what had caused it to use so much battery previously, but it's back to what it should be and that's all that matters.
hi with my s7 exynos i do 3h screen. i think there is a problem. i bought my s7 one week ago. can anyone help me?
Rooting and installing custom kernels when done right should greatly increase the battery life of your device. This is a well known guide here on XDA for improving battery life for our devices.
That being said, Lithium Ion Batteries hold less charge the more cycles they are put through, its a given fact but as you said your device is relatively new and therefore should not be experiencing this kind of problem. The way I see this is there are 3 possibilities which may be causing the said problem...
1) You have rooted the device and done some modification/s. ( which you haven't done )
2) Your battery is being drained by a service ( Like Oculus or VR ) in fact a number of reddit users complained their S7 was overheating and battery was draining really fast for some reason. Check This page out, It might help you.
3) Battery Defect, you must've gotten a "bad" model, if you haven't tripped KNOX you could try bringing your phone to Samsung and see if they would fix or replace it.
Good luck
I think this has to due to them samsung updates. As far as i know samsung been always doing things like this where they made the OS slow as hell after a while so you gonna get a upgrade sooner but a battery should last 2 years minimal without degrading.

i get like 5 hours screen on time and bout 1 day standby time but i have most bloatware disabled with the package disabler. But if i was you i would contact samsung.
This happens with Samsung updates on every Galaxy phone. It's like a curse. It's unavoidable.

May i ask if the people with these problems use the fast charge? I hearing many bad things bout this so i switched it off and must say the normal charge isn't that slow and if it can keep the battery good for longer then we all should use this.
I turned fast charge off about a week after I got the phone, was making the phone and charger pretty hot for the sake of about 5-10 mins quicker charge
Pointless really, unless you are desperate, only have a few mins spare and need as much power as possible in that short time, and if that's the case, enable it for that one time
Restrict background data on all but the most important apps (phone, text, email), dave power all but the most important apps. Battery life is fine

SGS6 Gets really warm in standby, closed all apps and installed Tyrannus rom

Hi dear XDA users!
I'm having a problem with my GS6 that sometimes, even though I closed all the apps running in the background and restart the phone, it becomes really really hot when in standby.
I don't know what to do about it but wait until it's over, which can take a long time and drains my battery a lot....
For example, I went out to get some Takoyaki (Japanese Squid balls) and left my home with 56% battery left.
It took me about an hour to get the Takoyaki and get back to my place, and my battery died before I could even hop back on the scooter to head back home.... Before dying it had this same problem that I described earlier, that it was becoming hot.
I was using google maps for a 1km drive, so I wasn't using it that long.
Then I decided to install a new rom, and rooter my phone (up until now my phone was never rooted before). I installed the rom, wiped cache etc. but it didn't help.
I am having serious battery drainage issues, I believe, and I was wondering what was the best ROM to save battery and which app would accommodate the rom well, to optimize battery even more.
"Turn down your screen brightness" isn't one of those advices I like to follow cause I like to keep it on automatic brightness so I can still see what's on my screen when I'm outside...
Hope you guys can help! :highfive: :good:
Thanks
Nathan
Irrelevant update
Today I'm going to get Hotcakes for lunch, which is much closer than the Takoyaki place, and I'm leaving with 96% battery! :silly:
I might have solved the problem myself, so if you are having battery issues with the Samsung Galaxy S6 and don't know how to properly fix them, try this out:
(NO NEED TO WIPE DATA ON PHONE)
Install the Rom "Tyrannus"
Install Greenify and forget about it
Install Naptime and set it on "agressive doze"
Boot into recovery and wipe all cache

A5 2017 awful battery drain while idle!! I need serious help!

First of all, I am new to Xda so I am not sure if this is the right section for this post. So let me start. Bought this device from samsung last May here in the Philippines. Everything worked fine. I rooted it after a month and re-flashed the stock firmware from sammobile immediately after rooting. Nothing changed. Battery was so good. Last august 12, I flashed the first ever nougat firmware for a520f, the russian firmware. Battery was still good in the first 2 weeks but after that my phone keeps draining battery like hell while doing nothing!! I ignored it for a while coz i thought that its just a bug or the battery was not calibrated properly. But after a week, I got worried. I sleep with 100% and after I wake up, only 65% was left. It drains 5% an hour and it's pretty awful. I couldnt enjoy my phone especially after school. I go home with only 20% or below with 2 hrs SoT. Couldnt resist the problem thats why I did a full factory factory reset including the cache partition. Was excited after resetting coz i thought the problem will be fixed but unfortunately, it wasn't. I was confused and didnt know what to do thats why I flashed a different firmware. The Cyprus version of Nougat. But still, the battery drain is still killing my device. After 2days I flashed the Indian version of nougat and STILL NOTHING HAPPENED Phone still drains 5% every hour. Did everything I could. Rollbacked to marshmallow (ph firmware which was my original firmware). So im back at mm and im hoping that the drain is gone but still, it's killing me. Dont know what to do. I updated my a520f to nougat via OTA. But still nothing happened tried rooting, still nothing. I really need help. I think there is a bug in my phone's deep sleep mode that causes it to be awake even when the screen is off. Please help me guys. I did everything and the batter drain is killing me!!
Ps: i tried safemode, ultra power saving and more stuff but still the battery is drained while idle.
Note: Battery is good when im using the phone
