Hello, for the longest time my only Sync options under my Google account were Sync App Data, Google Fit Data, and People Details. All of the sudden I notice these other 7 categories with asterisks in front of them appear out of the blue. I disable them, they auto re-enable themselves. Has anyone experienced this and has any information how to remove it? I've removed other unwanted sync services from my phone before not sure if these are in a lib or apk. I haven't installed any new programs lately either.
Are you running a CM based rom? Looks like you may have somehow enabled "hidden sync options" in experimental settings.
Touchwiz, but I finally figured it out. I accidentally selected the "Reveal Hidden Sync" option in Greenify. Unchecked and now at least I don't have to see them.

Running 2.2 atm, wondering if its possible to completely disable the sync of calendar and contacts to gmail? One would think unticking auto-sync, and each and every of calendar, contacts and gmail under account and sync settings (background data is enabled) would be enough. Sadly, if you decide to poke around in calendar settings, more specifically under calendars where you can change what should be visible and synced (apparently you can turn off the visibility there, or both sync and the visibility, but not sync alone), it will still go ahead and sync. I thought I had put a permanent end to it after adding the following to block list in droidwall:
Calendar storage
Calendar sync adapter, google services framework contacts sync adapter
Contacts, com.android.providers.userdictionary, Contacts storage, com.android.providers.applications
Dialer, dialer storage, SIM toolkit
along with a bunch of other apps which I didnt see a need to require full internet connection, but the ones listed above are the only ones that seemed relevant for preventing the sync. Unfortunately, today I noticed that it had went ahead and synced a couple of new entries to the google calendar again. I really just dont see any point whatsoever in doing it since I NEVER use the calendar on my PC, and if I lose my phone then so be it. I rather at the very least have the option of keeping my personal data off the internet if I would like to.
Anyone have any thoughts or sollutions about this please? Would be greatly appreciated.
bump, anyone please?
another bump, anyone please?
go to settings > accounts & sync> and uncheck Auto-sync or disable each account appart
OR
I don't know about your ROM but on my CyanogenMod 7 there's a wiget called Power control... it allowes you to deactivat syncing directly
Thanks for your reply!

That doesnt seem to be definitive, I've disabled each and every of them as well as disabled auto-sync completely.

I'll be trying CM7 in the future for sure once a few more bugs have been ironed out, hopefully its not just a custom toggle for the standard sync settings.
In the mean time I dont suppose anyone else has any ideas?
The options in android do not seem to do anything.
As soon as you open "Calendar" -> "Your Calendar" a sync will start even if you have disabled syncing.
I already tried CM7. Is there a way to block or disable even this unwanted syncing?
Old thread, but there is a way.
From a terminal, run;
pm disable com.google.android.gsf
-- that will disable google services framework, and all syncing to google will cease.
Note that it will also kill market. Run it the same way, but with "enable" instead of "disable" to restore market, then disable again when finished.

There you Go...
The Chain is as Follows:
Android Assumes that you use automatic syncing, or you will turn it ON when prompted for
and then ..
Part 1
assuming Automatic Syncing
1. All Network Permission Kind Applications (in Android) Sync
2. Those applications which Give you options what to sync, only sync the selected Data
These are due to Services
Part 2
If you disable Automatic Syncing, nothing will be synced in Background, and now
Android assumes Manual Syncing
1. All applications will Sync Data as soon as you open them
-- This is due to Application Opening (Not Background Services)
2. If for Google Account, you have disabled all options, then only the application which you open will Sync
3. It is now not important what is selected in options
-- eg. if you have unchecked Gmail, but when you open Gmail, it will start sync service, and when you touch Refresh from options, It will Sync
Part 3
Finally... to sum up
1. For Applications to fetch you Data, Background Data has to be Enabled
2. For making it automatic, as soon as their is Connectivity, Auto Sync has to be Enabled
3. For Choosing what SHOULD NOT Sync Automatically (only), there are options to choose... you got me right
4. This is only for your account related apps, and other apps have to be disabled for auto sync/update/connect by exploring their settings
So as per your doubt, Disabling Auto Sync should Actually does not sync (Google)
If you open the Application, only then it Syncs
For Special Apps like Calendar which do not have options like Gmail to Refresh
clicking on the Sync settings jumps to Accounts and Settings, where as soon as you select the Tick box, syncing starts
You sync, and when done, uncheck it again
Hope it was useful...
EDIT:
For Apps like Market, there is no other Option but to disable Auto Update of all apps one by one
Nevertheless, Market will connect to Web Service and will notify you about Apps that have updates available
I've noticed that there are a lot of users that are flashing ROMs and reporting FCs (Force Closes) after getting their accounts set up so I figured
I would share some information that will not only help the DEVs in new reports from users but also help users enjoy all of the work put forth by
the Devs.
This will cover the Google account settings and help understand some of the features that these settings have and how they effect ROMs once
they have been installed.
Google account auto Sync and App back-Up/Restore does just as it says but when using ROMs with different base versions such as 2.2.1 and 2.3.4
and all in between can have a bad side effect unless you set them up the right way. In "Settings" there are two allowances that you
have to make.
1. "Background Data ( Covers Applications can sync, send, and recieve data at any time. )"
2. "Auto-Sync ( Applications sync data automatically. )"
3. "Backup Data and Settings ( Backs up applications and system settings. )"
These work great for email, contacts, and calander accounts but Google actually backs up more than that. System files for previous settings and profile
settings also get backed up which can cause force closes and ROM errors if restored to a ROM using a different base version of these settings.
If you were using Froyo (2.2.1) and these two settings were on then its safe to say the permissions and settings from this profile were backed up in
anticipation that something may go wrong with your device, when you go to a different base version (ROM) such as Gingerbread (2.3.4) Google doesn't
check to see if the base version has changed when you first set up your phone (after flashing a new ROM) and restores the previous settings for those
accounts. Now if you just flashed something different than you had before this will cause "Force Closes" so lets get down to how to bypass the feature.
Most ROMs require you to reboot twice before setting up accounts or anything else which is correct but once the ROM has loaded for the second time it
may ask you if you want to log into your account(s) before continuing on, you want to skip through all of the steps including Wifi set up.
1. Go to settings.
2. select "Backup Data and Settings"
3a. Disable "Backup My Data" and "Automatic Restore"
3b. " If your a flash junkie like I am keep these settings turned off other wise you will have issues later"
4. Back out and go to "Accounts and Sync Settings".
5. Disable "Back Up Data and Auto Sync".
6. Back out and now go and sign into your accounts but don't sync them, just sign in.
7. go to each account and sync Contacts, Mail, and Calander manually.
After all of the accounts are done you can go back into "Accounts and Sync Settings" under General Sync Settings and enable them. This will bypass the app sync
feature Google uses for these accounts. There is also a way to disable JUST the app and system files in your Google account so it no longer saves system settings
and I'll update the thread at a later date.
I hope this helps with some of the issues people are having with various ROMs.
Edit: There are Apps that are saved by this method by Google, system settings, app settings and data of both which can also cause problems with the way a ROM runs and is managed. Be aware of the last time you saved prior system/app data and avoid these settings from being installed into the next ROM.
How to remove the applications you begin to install after each hard reset using Google backup&restore?
I'm not talking about the Contacts or Gmail being pulled in (that's fine),I just don't want the apps & settings
I've tried the various resets (with backup turned off), but nothing gets me back to a blank, clean phone.
Is there a way to remove?
Thanks.
Oddly enough, this never works for me anymore. Contacts and whatnot come back, but applications never self reinstall since about six months ago. I always assumed since I have to agree to the terms and conditions of the market, it won't start running until I've done so. No real idea though, if anything, don't add your Google info in the initial setup. Set up your settings and whatever else you need to do, then add your Google account info in Settings > Accounts. From there, if it starts to redownload everything, just cancel them before they have a chance to finish. You could also try force closing the market. I did that once when it started to download my apps, it got one app through and quit the rest.
I've checked the online market, there's no settings in there. Hope you figure it out.
When you add the Google account, at the very end, there is this option "Keep this phone backed up with my google account". Unselect that option.
Untick "Automatic restore"
Hey guys, I have been experiencing a problem since yesterday: Although syncing is activated (I tripple checked!) my google account does not sync anymore as long as I use mobile data (other apps like google chrome are able to use mobile data, however, so I am able to surf the internet). This also means that I don't get any emails in push from my gmail account. As soon as I switch to WI-FI, syncing works flawlessly, emails are pushed without any delay. Manual syncing works (pulling down in the gmail app or via the options in the google account settings on the phone).
Another weird thing is the signal status icon. When using WI-FI it is white, as soon as I switch to mobile data, it turns orange (I'm using nova launcher).
So I decided to completly wipe the phone and then reinstalled CM 11s 33R which I downloaded directly from the CM-page. I reinstalled all the apps afresh which means I don't think I carried any wrong settings from my last ROM over to the newly installed one.
Anybody got an idea what the reason could be that there is no syncing anymore and how I can resolve this?
Hi,
im facing the same problem since yesterday morning. I've recognized the exact same issues with the same situation.
As long as im in WLAN all is good. As soon as i am on mobile-data network push is not working anymore. I has been working before fine, but till yesterday it stopped. I didnt change anything in the configuration.
Very strange. I would be very happy if anybody has a glue on how to fix that.
I've also made twice a reset (once per TWRP, and another reset with android reset function) but both didnt help to get rid of that problem.

Push and sync works again with my device. Also, the orange color in the Signal Status is gone and it is White again.
Found something in the OPO-Forum (thanks to gabriel3714):
Go to:
google.com /Settings /security
under section "account permissions" find "apps and websites" and click "view all" then try and revoke access to you OPO and any other items that shouldn't be there. Then restart your phone.
If anybody still has Troubles, here are some other things to try which were sent to me in an email by Matt Oli:
If Sync isn't working when you're using your data, here are a few things to check for:
•Make sure that Background data is enabled◦Phone settings> Data Usage> Scroll down to Gmail and make sure that "Restrict background data" is not selected.
•Disable Power saving mode
•Clear your App's cache and data◦Open Phone settings> Select Application manager> Swipe to "All"> Choose Gmail> Clear cache and data
•Limit your folder size◦Open Gmail via a desktop> Settings> Forwarding and POP/IMAP> Next to "IMAP access" select "Limit folder size"
•Try Unsyncing your Gmail account temporarily. Try this a few times.◦Settings> Accounts> Google> Select your account> Uncheck Gmail> Check Gmail
•Resetting IMAP◦Gmail> Settings> POP/IMAP> Disable POP & IMAP> Save Settings> Re-enable IMAP> Save Settings
•Remove Gmail Account and setup again◦Phone Setting> Accounts> Google> Select you email account> "Remove account"
◦Re-establish account.
Solution to your problem
Hi, I had same issue.
Go to Keep website. Remove all shared notes. (Delete them, Don't Archive). Go back to Keep on Android. Clear data from Settings -> App -> Keep and launch app again.
Problem solved.
Hi im facing an issue with google sync, im not able to get the game data sync option in google sync. i have updated google play services, play store..and also play games. kindly help me if know any solution.
I am currently running on cm11 rc3...it was working before..now its not...
My Mate 9 is a set from Singapore telco and used in Singapore, so it had Google Play Store included.
Google Contacts sync worked fine for the first 1 year of use, never had to worry about it, it just worked in the background.
Then I noticed things were not quite right. (I sometimes add/edit contacts thru the phone, and sometimes I add/edit them thru my desktop browser via Gmail > Contacts.)
I noticed that if I manually did sync now, it would spin for about half minute, and the Last Synced time would update, as though successful, even though there was no effect. Changes did not go either way.
After Googling, I did these steps:
Main Settings > Apps.
three dots to show system apps
find "Contacts Storage" then "storage", then "clear app data".
This resulted in empty Contacts book. No change after repeated "sync now".
After a phone restart, the sync kind of worked, and I had Contacts in my phone populated again.
But I noticed now that changes are only going one-way, Add/Edit/Deletions do go from Google to phone, but changes do not go from phone to Google.
Do you think I should try removing the Google Account from the phone and re-adding it?
UPDATE: Without other changes, a few days later, I noticed that 2-way sync was working, although the sync latency seems longer than expected. In 2016, 2017, I was used to seeing a contact appear on my Whatsapp within 10 seconds of adding into Google Contacts via desktop browser. But now, it might take many minutes? hours?
