My Mothers Note3 was purchased from her service provider in SA ( Telkom ) it is an unbranded prone and was not locked to her provider network.
She took the phone over to the US and used an AT&T sim there without a problem for a two weeks.
Upon her return she put her own sim back into the phone and it would not log onto her provider network.
Thinking it was the sim card I swapped it with mine from another service provider and it worked no problem.
placing her Sim into my phone also worked without a problem.
She had her sim card changed anyway and since then that phone will not connect to any other network than Vodacom. The phone was not bought from them and there is no reason why it would be locked to their network, but everything seems to be pointing to that.
Her service provider said they would have to replace the motherboard to fix it.
Can anyone enlighten me as to what could be causing this and if there is a fix for it?
Try changing the APN settings (Settings->More Networks->Mobile Networks->Access Point Names) and change the settings to the proper APN settings for Telcom (not sure what they are since I'm from the US, but just google it and they should be easy to find) and also check to make sure that your phone is searching for the right type of network (Settings->More Networks->Mobile Networks->Network Mode and select LTE/WCDMA/GSM) and see if it connects then.

I have a Verizon TP2 and have unlocked the SIM. I'm heading for Ireland next week and have purchased a prepaid GSM SIM for use in Ireland. Do I need to reset any of the Phone Settings on my TP2 or will it automatically make the changes when I insert the SIM and turn it on in Ireland. Thanks.

i am using sprint TP2, easy switch to GSM network, just go to setting/connection management/phone setting/network
choose GSM ONLY, then system will search GSM network automatically
remember insert GSM SIM card in the phone first
You will have to get data connection setting for the prepaid provider if you want to use your data connection

That is what happend to me with my VZW TP2 in Greece.
Switching to GSM only worked for the phone but I need settings for SMS and Data.
Got the settings but VZW put some kind of lock on the connections settings app. My settings would always revert back to the vzw settings and I would always get connection failur pop up.
Got back home and found online some details about "CMGaurdian"
This program either locks the conection manager or imediately reverts changes back to stock. I think you may need to disable this in registry to enable data and out going sms reliably.
Hi,
I am unable to use 3G on htc desire. I have set the correct APN. The problem is that when I choose "WCDMA" as the network mode, it automatically switches back to "GSM only". The place where I live has no problem with 3G availability. I feel the problem lies more with my handset. Can someone please help ? Is there anything that I can do to get rid of this problem. My phone has lost its warranty since I unlocked it.
Have you tried any other operator sim card? It's a good troubleshooting to do when this kind of problems happen...
Had problems like that before and it was an incorrect APN setup.
Thanks for getting back. I tried with a different sim and a different operator. They were also not successful. APN setting is perfectly right for the current sim. The APN settings were given by the operator.

Are you using any kind of widget to switch APN on / off, 2G/3g ?... I noticed that for example, Widgetsoid can mess with 3g connection so much that sometimes you need to remove it and reboot the phone so you can get things working again.
Try using another SIM card too. It may give you a clue on what's going on: wrong settings / card with no data activated / etc ...
I am not using any widget to turn on/off the 3g. EDGE services work on my mobile while 3G is not working. If I use the sim card on to a different mobile, 3G works fine without any problem. Tried using another sim card with 3G data activated and that also did not work fine for me on HTC Desire.
Hello.
I bought D2G from ebay last month.
It was locked and has bad ESN.
And I unlocked D2G using turbo sim card from ebay.
That item number is 200539432676 and you can search it just type "no cut unlock sim card".
And maybe you can unlock it follow these steps.
0. You need prepare local carrier's sim card, another local phone, D2G
1. Put your sim card in local cellphone and turn on. After it receive signal, pull out the battery and your sim card. (Do not turn off the cellphone before pull out the batt. and sim)
2. Put your sim card on locked D2G with turbosim.
3. Turn on D2G and change the network mode (if you need) and set up the APN
4. Check the data roaming
Settings - Wireless & networks - Data manager - Data delivery - Data roaming
After that, My D2G work with roaming mode. I can use calling, text messaging and 3G internet service thru GSM/UMTS mode.
(I'm living in South Korea and local carrier provide wcdma hsdpa service.)
But my unlocked D2G have two problems.
1. When I use other local sims with turbosim, it's not work. I guess this turbosim
has compatible problem. (Maybe newer sim will not work.)
2. I only can receive incoming call and message(text and MMS) when my D2G was connected on "H"(Hsdpa). I cannot receive that things when signal turned to "3G".
I cannot use D2G for main phone.. Is there any way to connect HSDPA only? I tried to find some apps for do that, but there is no apps for it. If anyone know about the way, Please help me!
Thanks for read my post and please understand my poor english skill
TurboSIM is not the way to go. There are problems with incoming calls not going thru, losing service every now and then/etc
You should really try to unlock the phone by code. Have you tried online unlockers? You may be lucky your phone not to be from the locked down ones and to unlock with ease. Give it a try!

I already got code from Ebay seller, and it dose not work.
And now I'm in South Korea so turbosim is only one way unlock it.
And I guess I can use my D2G with turbosim if I can connect Hsdpa only.
Is there any way to do that?
Hi,
I have a Nexus S I9023 with baseband I9023XXKI1
Provider is Telenet in Belgium, which is a full MVNO with its own MNC
When running any Gingerbread version, the phone works fine when going out of the country, and returning.
But with any ICS rom (stock or CyanogenMod) the phone will not be able to connect to any international providers, when my providers SIM is installed. But when I stick my providers SIM into another phone the SIM will switch over, after which I can put it back into my Nexus S and I can roam to any other international provider without problems, but the phone will not switch back to my own provider when I get back into the country. At this point I again have to put the Telenet SIM into another phone to force it out of roaming mode after which I can put it back into my Nexus S and it works again on my own provider.
I also tried with another Telenet SIM and had the exact same problem, so it is not a problem with the specific SIM itself. But when I stick in a non-Telenet SIM it does switch to roaming and non-roaming without problems. So it clearly is a combination of the ICS ROM with the Telenet SIM.
The only other thing I found is that the MNC code in apns-conf.xml is wrong for Telenet. It is listed as MNC=10 which used to be correct until sometime last year when everyone was issued a new SIM with MNC=05. But with a custom APN setup mobile data works fine.
If anyone has any idea how I could solve this issue, I would love to hear about it!
Cant Activate/Deactivate International Call Roaming on Nexus S.
Hi,
Same issue here, mine is Nexus S, running ICS 4.0.4, baseband version I9020XXKI1. I am not able to make calls in roaming. I spoke to my provider (O2 Germany) and they say that, I have to deactivate the lock (Lock to activate roaming). I haven't found any way to unlock this service. I have not tried what the OP has mentioned in his post (i.e., to put the sim into another phone and then try back in Nexus S). But I would like to know, how can I Activate or Deactivate the roaming lock ??
Thanks,
Cheers!!

The only roaming feature you can enable is for Data. This has no effect on roaming for normal phone usage.
You can change this setting under "System Settings" -> "More..." (under Wireless & Networks) -> "Mobile Networks"
Here you will find a "Data roaming" option, and possibly a "National data roaming" option
I have a Desire Z with Android 4.0.4 and Telenet for the cellphone also. I noticed I have to activate the romaing in Belgium to have the data connection which is strange as I'm in Belgium. Now I hear that they can be issues calling/sending sms abroad... I'll see when I'll be in Croatia.
I activated for the moment all the option (data roaming, national roaming) for the moment, nothing more strange than having the romaing activated and the 'R' in the network signal.
National Roaming seems to be needed on some phones, since the Telenet SIM swap last year to get a data connection in Belgium. On my own Nexus S phone I don't have the problem. But on my wife's SE Xperia Mini Pro (2011 model) with stock Android 2.3.4 it does have this issue.
The old sim used MNC=10, while the new SIM uses MNC=05 and it seems that some phones have some kind of issue with that.
MNC is the Mobile Network Code, which together with the MCC (Mobile Country Code) forms a identifier per provider.
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Mobile_Network_Code
I narrowed down the issue somewhat.
Basically my prior workaround that the SIM needed to be swapped to another phone to force the network to connect was false.
What actually needs to happen to force the phone to enter or exit roaming is to pull the battery.
Rebooting the phone, or shutting it down and rebooting (cold boot) does not make a difference, the battery needs to be pulled and then the phone will switch networks.
I found this by accident, because I was out of the country and it was as normal refusing to switch to roaming mode. Then the battery died and I connected power to the phone and booted it, and it suddenly connected to a foreign provider in roaming mode.
Getting back to Belgium, it again refused to switch back, so I verified it by just pulling out the battery and putting it back and the phone successfully was able to connect to Telenet again.
In other words, some component needs to be reset for it to successfully switch to roaming and back. This component does not get turned off when the phone is turned off, so the battery needs to be pulled.
I purchased a S6 on EE a week ago. Has been working fine with an ee sim, however I have not made any calls or texts yet, just using the phone for Internet on wifi etc.
I have a regular three sim which I would like to use so I have trimmed it down with scissors and this made me cut part of the gold contact bit off (I read online this shouldnt affect the sim).
I'm guessing this phone is locked as when I insert the sim it detects a new sim has been inserted, it makes me restart too. Upon booting up however it says no sim card/ emergency calls only however I see a solid connection. I cannot make any calls as it says not registered to a network or something.
Now my question is that is the phone picking up the sim card? If yes why is it not prompting me with a sim unlock code screen? Secondly is my phone not detecting the sim card at all? Is that the reason why I am not prompted with a unlock code screen? All help is appreciated. Thank you.
Go onto settings, then onto Mobile Networks, then Network Operators, then Search Networks then click the Three carrier. It will take a few mins to search for all the networks so do not back out.
