[FIX] Accessibility Settings Unable to Turn on Due to Universal Switch Settings Crash - Galaxy S6 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

I have a rooted AT&T S6 and was using Tasker normally, but I decided to clean up/freeze some more system apps, and then I ran into a problem. For some reason, accessibility settings for Tasker become disabled and when I tried to re-enable them, I was prompted with this error message: "Error: "Turn on universal switch. Universal switch does not support the current system language. The text-to-speech language will be set to null, but this might cause unexpected behavior". After hitting "Ok", it would say settings has crashed.
I fixed this by unfreezing Samsung text-to-speech engine. Afterwards, the message about Universal Switch never came up again. This is just an FYI if anyone suddenly runs into problems and cannot enable any accessibility settings due to settings has crashed.
Pics below.

thanks bro you were life saver, in my case i had to turn on (enable) google text to speech i was getting this error while turning on greenify from accessibility

Sorry for this stupid question but how did you do this? I am facing the same problem but I can't figure out how to disable, freeze, whatever text to speech!

To get rid of the Universal Switch Prompt:
1. Go to Settings > Language and input > Text-to-speech options
2. Enable "Google Text-to-speech Engine"
it should work from there :good:

Install google text to speech from play store
Enable google tts in accessibility option in vision text to speech and your problem will be solved

I tried that but it takes forever to load so I can never click the Google TTS or Samsung TTS.

Edit: I installed an aroma package in xtresolite and the accessibility functions option and it fixed it. Nice.

I had the same problem, but i was perplexed on how to turn off/on the Text-to-speech engine...after searching for long, i found out that Google TTS wasn't even on my phone...i downloaded it and turned it on from my settings(mine was in accessibility settings) and everything started working again

I had same problem with S8 today with same problem. I can't believe this fixed that. Stupid samsung. Thanks a lot

Disable Explore by Touch

I just accidentally enabled explore by touch as I enabled talk back. According to Google support pages there's no way to turn it off independently of talkback without a factory reset. I figured somebody here could probably come up with a more reasonable solution.
Thanks in advance

So Explore by Touch is enabled (sort of) as long as ANY program is listed under Accessibility > Services set to ON
So either Talkback, or any app.
In my case I get accouncements of "The Folder is Open" even with everything off and Talkback uninstalled.
Doesn't look like anyone will help.

I see the same thing on my Note II. For me it was using the Light Flow App... It turns on a service in accessibility. turning that off gets rid of the talkback announcements. So it seems that the bottom line is: stop using whatever installed/enabled the service, or live with the announcements

Samsung Text To Speech - Accessibilty Bug workaround

I installed LockerPro Lockscreen and I got the bug where the phone would start the text to speech engine would activate if I enabled the LockerPro Accessibility service, the workarounds given say you have to disable Samsungs Text to Speech service for this to stop. I couldn't do this on the this S4 the disable button was grayed out.
To get workaround this I did the following steps.
Make sure phone is rooted
Use system app mover to make Samsung Text to Speech engine a user application.
Make Google Text to Speech Engine the default (Settings -> My Device -> Accessibility -> Text-to-Speech Options)
Then disable Google Text to Speech Engine (Settings -> More -> Application Manager -> All -> Google Text-to-speech Engine)
This fixed the problem for me, and driving mode still works fine.
Has anyone found a way around this without rooting the phone?!?!? I too am trying to use LockerPro but the Samsung TTS 'Disable' option is greyed out. Now all my actions in default Samsung apps give me voice prompts. I am not comfortable rooting the phone yet so I'm hoping there is another option to enable the Disable button! Thanks.

I accomplished effectively the same thing by freezing both Samsung and Google text-to-speech in Titanium Pro.
Just go to Google play store and install Google text to speech classic then enable it that will cancel or the speech voice

Am trying to disable the Samsung TTS but it also greyed out on my device
Don't want to root at this stage and my phone seems to have the up to date firmware version already
It is running 4.2.2. with Kernel 3.4.0-5262204
Any suggestions how I can disable this Samsung TTS without rooting?
Cheers

thank you, you solved my problem. No longer bear the error message from Samsung Text to Speech on my galaxy s4. Simple solution, obvious, but I had not thought of and works very well.
A little more patience my friends, once Android 4.3 arrives on your device all your problems will go away.

Im on 4.3, same issue, problem is not solved. Note 3 N9005. Notifyer+ cannot be loaded without Samsung TTS kicking in. Driving me insane everytime the browser loads with the freakish "Page loaded" voice message. Just switched to another browser and prob solved. Samsung doesnt seem to have been able to figure this one out even with 4.3. Now Kitkat should do the trick.

[Q] GTP113 Rooted w/SlimKat no "Ok Google"?

I've installed the Google Now Launcher and microphone icon is perpetually "empty." Checked that hotword detection was enabled in settings as well. I had Nova Launcher installed pre-wipe/root/flash to SlimKat and for some reason it remains in the icons list and I can't get rid of it. Not sure if related to the issue. Thanks!

do you have google search installed ? If yes, check whether it is configured properly. Open it and keep on pressing next until you see google now.
Tell me the feedback afterwards.

I've done all of that already, still the same microphone that isn't filled in and therefore isn't listening.

How do you enable OK Google?

The title says it all. It is grayed out whether custom choice wake up is selected or not.
Go to the Google menu km the Settings, from there "search and now" and enable what you need.
Thanks for the advice but that option is grayed out. ""Ok Google" detction" Under "Search & Now". I will post a screenshot later on.
Try cleaning the data of the google app, then uninstall and reinstall.
As far as I know, OK Google works from the app or google launcher home screen
This is what it looks like. I tried clearing cache and data. I will now try uninstalling the updates.
Edit: I cannot uninstall or disable the Google app. What gives? I want to avoid factory reset if possible.
Look for permissions given to the google app, enable mic if disabled and try google now launcher
Thank you for the advice. I was able to get the "OK Google" command to work. The option is still grayed out in the setting, but I did it via Google Play app. It is an odd bug (if it is). Maybe it has to do with Huawei's voice command option (that wakes up the phone)?
It can, since EMUI is kinda aggressive with apps

OK Google command when phone is off?

I can't find a way to enable Ok Google command while the screen is turned off. Does that mean this option isn't avaiable on the Galaxy A8? That would be a huge bummer. Also, they decided to only include a few parts of Bixby, basically rendering it useless.

Ok Google is not even working when the screen is on. I was asked to train the phone to recognize my voice (which I did) but, now the Voice Match option is greyed out in Google app settings. I tried everything, I cleared the cache of Google app, I tried using Nova Launcher instead of the default launcher, I tried restarting the phone. That's another bummer.
