Mi 4i camera resolution problem - Xiaomi Mi 4i

All the time i am taking pics with rare camera having 10mp resolution only.
And the pictures taken with front camera having 3.8mp resolution only.
Why? Is there any settings that i don't know, as i am taking pics in high quality mode.

Just change the camera frame from 16:9 to 4:3 standard
Its because of the camera frame 16:9 is wide that is why the 3.8mp but 5mp is squarish so 4:3

Ok now i got it.

App for taking widescreen 720p pics?

hi there
can any body tell me which apps are capable of taking 720p widescreen pictures
thanks
Stock camera can take 16x9 widescreen at 6mp and 2mp. 2mp is 1920x1080 (same as 1080p). You could just resize either of those to 1280x720 (same as 720p).

if you select 2MP, no change in quality?

yeah if you use 2mp that will reduce your quality but you will get a widescreen pic

Eerrmm????? How does that one work out. Surely he means he wants an app that actually takes 720p pics like the cm camera takes 1080p which I'm a bit skeptical about.

When they say CM has a "1080p" still camera all they mean is 1920x1080 resolution ([email protected])
I guess 1080p sounds better than 2mp so they put that
Also the "p" means progressive scan and only applies to video in this case. So it is used wrong when put in that context. There are progressively scanned jpegs as well but that is not what they are talking about here.
SO, taking a 1280x720 ("720p") picture (if there is an app that will do that) would be a lot smaller than 2mp and wouldn't hold as much detail as a resized 6mp or even 2mp. Plus I don't know an app that takes pics that size so I tried to provide a workaround.
I wonder why OP wants this anyway?
@Z3US911: You can get decent results resizing a 2mp to a smaller size depending on your subject, etc. but yes you will surely see more detail/quality with 6mp.
Yeah err.... 720P is for shooting video. You don't take a still picture in 720P that just affects the quality of the video.
the MP is what affects the still image taking. Basic thing to remember is more MP = larger picture = more detail.
With vignette app you can take 8 MP pics and you have an option to shoot in widescreen. I don't know if the picture is 720p large though. I will test this tomorrow!

[Q]General Camera question - Widescreen vs non Widescreen

Hi guys ..
I was wondering, is Widescreen (16:9) option in camera settings good or bad ?
I mean, i know it gives less than 8mp picture.
But what do you think ppl? Are pictures taken with widescreen on better quality than widescreen off ? What do you use ? What do you recommend to use?
Thanks in advance
Laynee1
I think it's personal preference, But with the amaze camera and a camera mod, I will get 4.5mb photo's in 16:9
and then 7.5mb photo's in the old 4:3, So depends on what your using it for but in my experience there is more detail in the 4:3 format, And I use 4:3 for that reason
Thanks for the answer !
i use the amaze camera mod as well but i hate having my pictures cut off on my sexy 4.3 inch screen. lol so i use 16:9. i dont think u will notice much of a difference in quality from the 16:9 to 4:3 unless u blow up the picture really big.

16:9 12MP?

Like the title implies with the stock u11 sense camera Is there a way to take pictures in 16:9 but with the full 12MP with HDR on?
It can't - because the size ratio of image sensor is 4:3. If you want 16:9 it won't be full 12 MP.
What is the reason for 3 extra MP? It does nothing for quality of the picture.

Ehh...my brain just wanted it lol
My previous LG G4 had 16:9 sensor, and I have to admit it, that I really miss it, because now I have to crop image to such aspect ratio, but G4 had full 16:9 uncropped image - better, because more was captured.
P.S. Not talking about quality, but sensor.
3:2 > 16:9 > 4:3

Does the main camera have OIS ( optical image stabilization ) ?

Hi,
I want to buy a P20, however I'm curios if the main camera has OIS. Gsmarena says it does, however other sites don't mention anything.
So, does it or does it not ?
Thanks !
i doubt that. in movies mode there is only EIS.

False. 1080 30fps and all still photos are optically stabilized.
1080 60fps has Electronic Stabilization. 4k has none.

go to 1080p 30fps (stabilisation) mode and than change to 1080p 60fps (no stabilisation) you will se that in 30fps you see less on the screen because the phone is making crop for the EIS stabilisation. if there were an OIS the frame in 30fps and in 60fps should be the same.

Check out any disassembly video, you will see the cameras have OIS. They physically move.
You see less of the screen because it crops from a 4:3 format in photo mode, to a 16:9 format in video.

Ok if you have seen the module thats ok.
I'm seeing the crop change switching between the video modes.
See my post here if anyone is interested in higher resolution EIS on the p20. Works on mine at 3k resolution.

I do not think the camera has OIS, or it has OIS but it is not enabled.
Looking with a flashlight in an iphone 7 camera, I can see the lens moving to compensate for the shakiness, however looking with a flashlight in the Huawei's lens, I cannot see the camera move in any direction ... So, no OIS here
I think it has AIS which is digitally stabilised by the AI.
Strange is that the iphone 7 only uses OIS for video ... If I switch to photo, the lens stops moving ...
There is no teardown video for the P20 which shows the camera module's inner parts moving. Can anyone confirm the OIS with any evidence? I think it might be there, but not enabled for sure.

Question best camera mode for every day picture taking?

What are your opinions for what the best mode/lens/resolution are for basic every day picture taking?

For most of shots main sensor set on 12 MP with 4:3 is my default setup which I chang if needed e.g. zoom (produces great pictures in 3x portrait mode), more details (108mp + detail enchancer),
