I had Lockbot Pro on my EVO until last night. Got frustrated with it, and when I tried to go and download theme's from the gallery, I kept getting errors and it wouldn't connect, even after rebooting the phone and trying again.
So I read through the comments in the market for Widget Locker and it had a lot of positivity and I decided to give it a go.
I noticed today that my battery is half drained where as at the equivilant time in the past, I would be about 3/4 full.
I am still new with Widget Locker and trying things out. I have the Widget Locker with 6 sliders on it as well as the clock and the Tiny Palmary Weather Widget.
Nothing else is installed recently besides Widget Locker, so this is my reasoning with my question targeted at Widget Locker as the suspect.
Any help is appreciated.

I was wondering something about this.
When I had Lockbot Pro, it had a still image for the background. When I entered my PIN to unlock the phone, then it takes me to my normal screens which run a live wallpaper.
With Widget Locker, my background is the Live background. Does this mean that even when the phone is in standby until I hit the button to bring up Widget Locker to get into my phone that the background is constantly running whether the phone is on and being used or in standby mode?

WidgetLocker definitely drains your battery. You can just do your own test to find out.
Before you go to bed, leave your phone off the charger and remember what % you left it off at. Then:
1. Observe how much battery is drained overnight without WidgetLocker.
- For me, my phone drains around 1-4%.
2. With all else equal from the night before, apply WidgetLocker and, again, observe how much battery is drained overnight.
- For me, once WidgetLocker was installed and applied, it drained at least 20% every night.
For safe measure, you could reboot your phone before doing these tests to make sure no other apps are running in the background.
This is the test I use for testing the impact on battery every time I install a new app. I'm more cautious of apps that change system settings more than just stand alone apps (such as games). WidgetLocker definitely falls under the former so I wasn't surprised to see that it does cause a fairly significant change in battery life. It's a shame though cause it's definitely a good app. It's just the trade off isn't worth it when the Captivate doesn't have the best battery life to begin with.

The only thing is that it wouldn't list "WidgetLocker" when you use those apps. For example, with Spare Parts, WidgetLocker's effects would cause other measures to increase. If I remember correctly, "Android System" under the Partial Wakelock category was a lot higher with WidgetLocker installed which means that it does prevent the phone from sleeping at times. Also, Running % was higher as well with WidgetLocker installed which means again that the phone ran for a longer time without sleeping. Anyways, my suggestion is to use my tests above if you want to find out how it really effects real world usage. Observational tests will give you the best results (if all else are equal).

I don't know if it's a Captivate issue or an Android issue, but one of the settings the Captivate has turned on by default triggers a bug which might be related to this thread.
Settings -> Wireless and Network -> Wi-Fi settings -> Menu key, Advanced -> Wi-Fi sleep policy.
The default sleep policy that the phone comes with is "When screen turns off". The problem is that when that one is selected, sometimes the phone doesn't sleep correctly, and battery drains quickly because the CPU is still running. (Set to "Never" and I've not had problems since) I've tested with Tasker as well, making it respond to the screen turning off - it also prevented the phone from sleeping, even though it should have done no such thing.
So Widget Locker, if it responds to the screen turning off, could easily triggering the same bug as those two. At least on the Captivate. Other lock-screen replacements would probably do the same thing. If that is the problem, responding to the screen turning on, instead, might fix it.

For the time being, if not forever, I went and uninstalled and refunded my purchase since I was still able too.
After I posted this thread, I plugged in my phone and charged it. Once fully charged, after 45 minutes off the charger, I lost 1/4 already. This hasn't happened until I installed this program.
I also noticed that my phone is a bit "zipper" once I removed this program.
Thanks anyhow. It seemed like a good program but wasn't worth the battery drain and slight sluggishness I noticed with it installed.

I've measured zero difference between using Widget Locker and not using Widget Locker, but I also have my phone doing stuff, so perhaps it wakes it no more than it already would have been. With K9 email, updating weather, syncing a few accounts, Tasker running, misc stuff, my phone always has 2-4%/hr.
However, the author has said a few times it's doing nothing if it's not visible. Could depend on the widgets you have loaded of course too.
I have Beautiful Widgets time/weather (4x1), PowerAmp (4x1), Android Agenda Widget (4x2).
And do you think that lock bot could drains battery?

What I had loaded on the Widget Locker lock screen was the default unlock and silent mode, camera and brightness sliders. I added a Dolphin HD and Pandora slider. I had the default clock and the tiny Palmary weather widget set to update every 1 1/2 hours. This update setting has been the one I've used on Palmary since Ive had it the last month.
And just FYI, I would have loved to have kept it, it seemed really awesome. But again, I did not have this battery draining issue until I installed this program. And it seems to have gone away once I removed it. All this within a 24 hour period from when I purchased Widget Locker.

the phone will go into a sleep state using widget locker unless you attach a widget that prevents sleep.
I have typoclock and poweramp widget on mine along with a custom slider.
I dont get any difference in power consumption than normal
however im not using homehelper, i have a fully rooted device using the root method of the 5 second rool and turned off weather animations.
I would consider what widgets you attach to widget locker and what method you are using to avoid the 5 second rule. Home helper maybe a resource hog.
I notice no significant drain on my battery. I had my phone on for 3 hours today while in class, and my phone only dropped 6%.
I experience phone lag with it, really awesome app but it needs some more work, interference with stock lock screen too.
Had to remove it but would like to bring it back if those glitches are sorted out.

Widgetlocker definitely drains my battery. Pity because it's a great application. However with it on android system takes over 40% of my battery, Widgetlocker itself is shown to take another 17%
and OS monitor shows constantly at least 25% CPU load from Widgetlocker.
Don't know what is wrong but something is wrong. Will try to root my device and not to use home helper and check if there is any difference.
I will have to look at my settings because I am not having any serious battery drain at all. On my WL, I have Beautiful widget with clock and weather going (update every 3 hours) and quick dial/text to my wife.
I am getting normail battery life with or w/o WL. I will report back my settings so those that love WL can continue to use.
OK, I've got to admint, rooting the phone and bypassing homehelper definitely improved the situation. Although I still have to check if there is still some battery drain when using the program. I guess there is some but not that significant anymore. Now the program is usable.

same goes with me... widget locker does drain my battery.. my battery used to drain about 2-4% per night... but after installed the widget locker it drains like 12% to 18% per night..

i did the rooting too.. but still it drains the battery.. like 15% per night.. that is on standby no usage at all.. jus wonder how will it drain on normal usage.. lol
I wonder if the updated WidgetLocker has any battery life improvements? Anyone with any new experiences?
i installed widget locker last week, and I've noticed it does seem to drain my battery significantly. I also dumped a sh1t ton of widgets on it too.
i think its the price you have to pay for functional lockscreens like this. I had an iPhone 3GS with LockInfo on it and it drained the battery a bit too.
Seems like a dead thread, but I am also having battery issues with WidgetLocker. I am certain that it is the culprit because when I restarted my phone after installing, the battery indicator was yellow, and when WidgetLocker initiated, the battery instantly went to red. Any ideas on how to fix this? I love this app.
Yep - I agree with everybody above. WidgetLocker is a battery muncher.
It's one of my favorite programs, but I've had to part ways with it. With it running I was only getting about 7 hours out of my battery - without it, I go 12 hours easy.
Sucks. Back to default lock screen.
I've noticed that once phone is powered off/on after shutting down with battery dead that neither automatic sync nor background sync happens despite being ticked. I have to cycle the setting to kick it into life. Anyone else seen that?

Are you sure that this simply isn't they power save feature kicking in?
This can be configured using various settings from within
Settings > Power > Power save

Power save works fine when the battery gets below 15% (in my case). The problem is it doesn't seem to come out of power save mode properly on its own when the phone has power in it again. I find the background and auto sync settings have been reticked, but they don't seem to be effective until I un-tick/re-tick them manually.

Oh, must admit that I have not noticed this, although I do use tasker application to enable and then disable my various radios and sync settings based on time in order to save battery

Nope. There's a LOT about the Desire S that kinda half works properly. I find its implementation really kind of sloppy. Definitely NOT a phone I go round recommending to anyone.
To ben_pyett's comment I considered Tasker. Apart from the fact that there are lots of comments that some of it's functionality is broken in 2.3 because Google messed with their APIs, when I thought about it I was pricipally going to get it to try and fix/work around all the stuff that doesn't work well in the Desire S, rather than add functionaliy. E.g.
- Auto display brightness always has the brightness too high (esp in dim ambient light) and there's no way to adjust its 'gain'
- Cycling Buetooth and WiFi and GPS availability (using various strategies based on location and time) only to mitigate poor battery life in the standard product
- Getting it to out of power save mode properly
- Stopping it making the SMS received notification noise when it was just receiving a txt delivery receipt
Sadly there's other stuff Tasker can't 'fix'.
I find myself rebooting the phone manually every two or three days when it begins to exhibit weird behaviour. It might be crashing and rebooting between those times too. I used to have a SIM PIN activated, but it would prompt for that before allowing me to even get calls after a crash, so I missed important calls before I noticed it was in that state. Now with the SIM PIN disabled it might still be crashing but I don't spot it at least.
I was a Blackberry user for years, and should never have changed. At least the BB was stable and all its features seemed to work properly (and had excellent battery life even with WiFi and Bluetooth on 24/7). I though the extra Google integration with Android was attractive and would be worth it. How wrong I was. :-(
I cannot find an indication of screen on time in either Usage or History under my power menu. Is it not there, or am I just blind? I've also checked the "Display & gestures" without luck.
Screen time has always been my major indication of battery life, so I'm having a hard time evaluating my new phone without it. Can anyone help?

Try a 3rd party app like GSAM Battery Monitor.
So it's really not there? I really thought I was just missing something. It's ridiculous that the information is not available through the stock rom.

Isn't it in settings under / power ? nevermind I see what your talking about.
Yeah that irritated the heck out of me too when I first noticed it. And since KitKat you can't use apps to monitor battery statistics without root and an Xposed module. Now I just betterbatterystats and EnableBatteryStatsPermission xposed module and I can see my screen on time, kernel wakelocks, and everything else. Works for me.

I charged mine earlier this week, used it a little bit after I pulled it off the charger and have barely touched it since. This morning when I went to go and watcha Youtube Video, my tablet was completely dead. Now I used it about 2 days ago and it still had over a 40% charge. To me it seems odd that the tablet drained over 40% just sitting there for 2 days.
I checked the battery manager for some statistics and the most battery draining services were the Screen at 34%, Tablet Idle at 22% and Android OS at 18%. I am not sure if this is normal for the Shield Tablet or if I might have something stuck running in the background or might even have a defective unit.
So I guess my question for you guys other than what your battery life is like, is do you think this is normal? Or should I try a factory rest? Any other suggestions? Returning it to BestBuy is an option as I bought it about a week and a half ago.

I'd try to manage background applications with Greenify. You'd have some more options like BootManager if you have root. Don't worry, root will disappear upon factory reset if needed for returns. Besides those two controlling agents, there is a flashable MOD I discovered recently called ComoDose 3.5 here on XDA. With all three, my S3 hits the bed as soon as I turn off the screen, boosting idle time tremendously. You'd need to go a step further and install a custom recovery to try ComoDose; if you have any issue and need to return, there is already a guide here on how to get rid of it. So don't worry about that!
Most likely, your device just isn't going to sleep. I don't think it's unusual.

Let Nvidia Optimize everything. It seems to end up saving me a ton of battery life. Using apps that don't need much power (like Cheezburger, G+, Udemy, Play Store, etc...), the Nvidia governor seems to handle the clocking very well. Then it cranks it up as needed with games (I bought a few that are listed in the Shield games thing).
You just need to remember to go in and optimize new apps that you install. By default it doesn't put a governor profile on them, so the apps just run as Android tells them to, instead of how Nvidia profiles them.
I've been charging my Shield Tablet about once every two days. That's maybe an hour of gaming a day, and a lot of web browsing, and various forum reading, and whatever other random stuff I do during the day.
The pre-installed app Camera Awesome installs a bunch of corrupt jpg's to internal storage. While they are their it causes the "media server" service to keep running constantly in a loop. Was so bad that while plugged in, my battery went down while actively using the tablet. Since I removed those corrupt jpg's the battery has been fine. So step 1, check for corrupt jpgs.

Now that you mention it, I did have the media server service running and taking up battery. I guess I will delete the pictures I have and replace it with a different (Google) Camera. Thanks for the tip.

Its still too early to call but I think you hit the nail on the head with this one! I wasn't getting drain with the screen off but it was draining really fast with the screen on. Thank you so much for this suggestion of deleting these corrupt files because right now my battery is finally draining like it should.. nice and slow. Thank You!!

How is your screen on before and after deleting the corrupt files? Would you mind posting screens or stats

Check any sub folders in that folder as well.
There are apps you can get which will scan your device for corrupt image files too.
I'm not an android expert, so apologies if I say anything out of turn.
I think the .jpegs appeared to be corrupt as some of them might have been for the 'picture frames' of the camera awesome 'special effects'. Thus they are 'transparent' in the centre of the image.
I had some in the Android/data/com.smugmug.android.cameraawesome/downloads directory.
I read an article, which said if you add an empty .nomedia file to the directory it should stop the media service from reading from it.
Would adding that file not be enough to stop the media service, rather than deleting all the files?

I had similar problem. I deleted all the jpg files, infact deleted the entire folder,Android/data/com.smugmug.android.cameraawesome/downloads directory. However, everytime i opened camera app, the folder generated itself (check in ES file explorer). Better option is to disable the app (you cant delete as its a system app) and use google camera or any other camera of choice. My battery life has increased (screen on and off) i get about 4 hours of screen on time (lot of browsing, drawing, you tube and 40 mins of gaming). Its not as much as others are getting. Also i am not rooted. On a side note Lollipop is coming in couple of days, it should alleviate some battery issues.''

The problem is it was in my bag between this morning and now and it has not been used... WiFi is set to be off while screen is off, and is not available for location when wifi deactivated. Nvidia camera is disabled. I will do a factory reset to see how it goes...
If I go to battery menu : it show only one line : screen, 1%, which of course is impossible.
EDIT : ok, it is unusable with such battery life... Since I bought it yesterday, I decided to do a factory reset and to NOT restore anything from other devices.
I'm currently charging it and will make a report later.

EDIT 2: time to RMA. Yesterday : a factory reset, no google account configured and charged at 100% , airplane mode. 8hours later ( this morning) , shield shutdown itself during night. So bad.

I've not had any battery issues and I'm running Lollipop.
I have set my screen brightness to Auto (Screen On uses up a lot of juice).
Using the "Shield Power Mode" I've set the "Processor Mode" to "Optimise".
Under the Advanced Wifi options I've turned off "Network Notification", I've left "Scanning Always available" on, and set "Keep Wifi on during sleep" to "Only when plugged in".
Finally in Android/data/com.smugmug.android.cameraawesome/downloads I've made sure there is the empty .nomedia file.
First off, I love the phone and I'll keep it, but ever since I got the phone I've been wondering why it's draining so much in standby. It's my first Samsung phone since 2011, so naturally I assume it's Samsung apps/services that drain? Especially since I don't use any new apps than on my other phones and in the battery stats it doesn't really show any user apps that use a lot.
Anyone has way to measure what system/user apps drain during standby? Or even better, any dev that could do a deeper dive into this?
For example, I just lost 32% battery while sleeping for about 8h, it has never been this much on any other of my previous phones (OnePlus Nord/Pixel 3a/Pixel 3/Pixel 2).
In fact, my OnePlus Nord with 815mAh more than the Flip3 is currently on last charge 3 days ago (it doesn't show me hours anymore) and 2h35m SOT and 25% battery left. On the Flip I just now got 17h with 1h30m SOT and 5% left. Settings all similar besides location accuracy turned off for the Flip as that was a massive drain.
Something must be unintentionally draining the battery during standby and I really hope one of you smart guys can find it. Or Samsung fixes it with an update..
I disabled AOD and any unnecessary account sync processes. It's only drained about 2% in standby the last 5 hours, but there are still some things to finish configuring.

If have AOD on a schedule so it's turned off during sleeping, account syncing I don't have anything that I can turn off and I never did on any previous phone

How old is your device? You got to give it some time to settle. I had 15% battery drain the first night, after that it went down to 5%.

The first step in improving the battery is to remember that this isn't any other phone. You may want to explore what options are available and what all you have enabled. By default, almost everything is on to show off all the cool new features that make this a Flip 3, not a OnePlus Nord.

Not true. Samsung has a bunch of features still in use.
Settings -> Advanced features -> Motions and gestures has a whole collection of things that are still running when the screen is off (and most aren't useful to the Flip, but came from "another phone").
Settings -> Cover screen allows you to disable turning on the screen when notifications arrive, if that is not something you need.
Also, unless you are using the app to lower the refresh rate, you may be running a bit high when idle.

I've turned a few things off there, but a lot of them OnePlus has too + a few more, which I had all enabled

I didn't really get any notification during last night, so I doubt this was the culprit

Yes I'm using that app and have it set to 48-96Hz
Appreciate the help, I believe there must be something that's unintentionally draining and while I went through every single setting in the beginning, I'm still very new to OneUI (and also impressed how far it came from the TouchWiz ****show)
One thing I always forget is that a lot of those features are running services and polling when they're enabled. Even though I'm not touching the screen with the tap to wake enabled, it's constantly waiting for that tap when it's asleep. Any one isn't a big impact, but Samsung has so many "convenience" features that I end up wasting battery to never use.
The calibration period is also horrible. Android 11 is slow to calibrate the battery and Samsung is worse. You can get a good idea of what is draining battery by going to Settings -> Battery and device care -> Battery. That may help find out if it's a renegade app.
One thing Asus does that I wish Samsung would embrace is Auto-start management. Some apps aren't efficient at polling for notifications and more than once have been the cause of major drain.
Another one even Samsung admits to be a source of drain is the edge panels. If you don't use them, it's best to kill the entire feature.

I just assumed it's not a big impact as OnePlus has those as well, for example draw a "V" on screen for flashlight or ">" to skip song besides the regular double tap to wake and it never appeared to be a battery issue for me before.

Do I assume correctly that some system apps or similar are hidden there? I just did the calculations and the percentages only make up 43.6%. I attached a screenshot

OnePlus also optimizes them better than brand new Samsung firmware. I had a lot of stuff enabled on the Note 20 Ultra that I won't be using for a month or two now.
Some apps are excluded, but it will let you know if it's something not included with the phone.
Another good idea is to uninstall, disable, or "adb uninstall" any bloat you don't use. Besides clearing up space in the app drawer, it kills off services you don't use. A lot of the apps will run services even before you sign in, even though they aren't actually handling any data.

I already went through the list and uninstalled which I 100% knew what it was and that it's not needed, but not sure about 99% of Samsung stuff. Some Samsung apps on the phone I don't even know what they are and when I start them it just prompts to agree to some terms before starting the app... I'll have a look around for a Samsung debloat list

If you have the unlocked version, they allowed uninstall for a lot of apps that were previously locked. A lot can also be downloaded later from Google Play or the Galaxy Store if you change your mind.
I use Firefox, so I uninstall Samsung Internet and Chrome. Members and Health are two big ones that like to run those "please enable us" services. It's a lot of deciding what you might use versus what you can live without.
Another good idea is to add anything you won't use, but didn't remove to deep sleeping apps to kill it's ability to run in the background. It's the closest thing to auto start management without rooting.

Yeah I do have 57 apps there already
I just removed 85 apps/services via adb, let's see how it is tonight and I'll report back tomorrow

So far I don't have much hope sadly. Whole day currently at home and not using the phone much and it's looking like in the screenshot (screen off, loosing almost 2.7% per hour, as comparison my OnePlus is at 0.9% per hour)

HOLY **** I would love to have this battery life. I'm literally not doing anything with the phone and just loosing so much. I'm pretty much the opposite of a power user, so my phone is in standby most of the time and loosing so much is pretty frustrating.
EDIT: I might have an idea why it's so bad for me, I don't really have reception in my apartment (as you can see on my screenshots), so I assume it's constantly trying to get better receptions, I see 2 bars sometimes, but most of the time 0. I'll keep my phone at the window where I have reception for the rest of the day and see if it makes a difference. (Although the OnePlus has also bad reception, but does have a different carriers SIM card)

Dependencies, dependencies, dependencies... some of those apks just sit there unless needed.
Do not disable apks/services unless you know what they do and what, if any, their dependencies are. Go too far and you'll end up in a boot loop.
What works for others probably isn't ideal for you.
Package Disabler is a better option as you easily toggle apks on/off as needed.
Screen off the serial offenders tend to be Google backup Transport, Framework and any cloud apps.
Try disabling Google play Services at night and see if that helps. You may need to disable Find my Device first as System Administrator if disable is greyed out.
Disabling play services also kills Gmaps and Playstore which are know hogs. Gmail as well to a lesser extent.
Google Firebase, do you need it? If not disable.
Carrier, Google, Samsung and app feedback, disable.
Using power management can cause erratic behavior and not solve the problem. Treat each power hog on a case by case basis instead. It takes a lot longer but yields a cleaner, more stable setup.
Play with it, go through -all- the settings. It's actually quit fun to explore and almost impossible to crash and burn.
