Hello community!
This is my very first thread and i seriously hope you can help me out.
I have a OnePlus One. Some time ago I tried to flash a custom rom onto it (OxygenOS), without having any idea how to do that. I took the zip from the official OnePlus site. Obviously, my flashing a custom rom did not work out. Somehow I must have deleted something I should not have: When I try to boot it now it just shows a 'powered by android' screen and doesn't move on from that. Now I already managed to load TWRP onto the phone. When I copied a flashable.zip onto the phone via android file transfer and then unzipped it, that worked. But then I said 'reboot' and the phone said 'No OS installed'.
I don't know how to solve this issue. Please help me out!
Greetings from Austria,
Clemens
Don't unzip, choose the zip in TWRP - Install. And then swipe to install it.
Btw, is it oxygen os zip?

You don't need to unzip it, it's a flashable zip so you just leave it as it is and install it with TWRP recovery. Full directions in my guide thread here:

Yes it is oxygen os zip....why?
My phone never says swipe to install-it says swipe to confirm flash

I asked about the zip to just confirm it is a flashable one.
For the next part, don't go by a literal translation in the app...
Do confirm the flash

What version of TWRP are you using? What's the exact fill filename of the Oxygen zip that you're trying to flash? Have you done anything to the zip, as in modified it in any way?
I'm not sure what type of twrp I am using
the filename is: oxygenos_1.0.0 (1).zip
and no, i have just downloaded the zip from the official oneplus website/link

The version of TWRP should be right at the top of the screen when you are in TWRP, it'll be 2.8.6.0 or something like that. Anyway, I think the main problem here is that you're trying to flash the wrong zip, extract the zip on your PC and tell me what's in it.
-oxygen_1.0.0_flashable.md5
-oxygen_1.0.0_flashable.zip
this is what is in the zip
I also tried only the flashable.zip on my phone-same reaction.
This is what's in the flashable.zip:
META-INF

system
boot.img
emmc_appsboot.mbn
logo.bin
NON-HLOS.bin
reserve4.img
rpm.mbn

Alright, you were trying to flash the wrong zip, it's the oxygen_1.0.0_flashable.zip that you're meant to flash. I can't open that link because that's a local come on your PC. I still need to know what version of TWRP you have installed, it may be too old.
I am using v2.8.0.1
and I already tried the oxygen_1.0.0_flashable.zip; doesnt work either

Don't ask me why, but it doesn't work. You can temporarily flash it in an older recovery

Aah ok thanks! Didnt know that this was a well known problem with twrp v2.5+, because i didnt find such an error on google. Could u tell which recovery i should use? CWM or better lower twrp version? Is a twrp version lower than 2.3 buggy or fine?

Ah, that explains the issue I've been having recently. Thanks for the help! I reverted to 2.3.3 and was able to get viper to flash again. I haven't noticed any difference between 2.3.3 and 2.5 on this device. Are there any downsides to keeping 2.3.3 for the foreseeable future?

On the TWRP website, search for Ville and you'll find all the previous versions (not the goo.im app link)
oh lol yea found it thanks, think im blind sometimes..
Yes!! Back in action
Awesome! So glad I stumbled onto this thread. The Google searches were all coming up with nothing until this one. I was using 2.6.1.0 when I initially had this issue then upgraded to 2.6.3.0 hoping that would resolve but nothing. Rolled back to 2.3.3.0 and now I'm good to go :good:
Just FYI, to anyone else that comes after me this fix worked for me and I'm using a T-Mo Galaxy S2 so this fix is not device-specific.
The issue I'm running into is that I can't figure out how to revert to 2.3.3.0. I'm using 2.6.0.0 and in the cmd prompt I type "fastboot erase cache" and then "fastboot flash recovery xxxxxx.zip". But when I do that I'm forever stuck in fastboot until I flash 2.6.0.0 again. It's like my HOX+ is married to that version and can't use anything else. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Fasboot flashing needs to be .img not .zip
extract your 2.33 zip so that you can flash the .img
fastboot flash recovery recovery.img (typing the name of recovery.img)
or download the img file from twrp website
http://teamw.in/project/twrp2
click on the "get twrp for your device" on the right and follow the links to the version you want for your particular brand of phone.

Thanks for the reply, tivo. My mistake on the .zip. I meant .img. I made sure to download the correct version, but still have the same issue. I just get stuck on the white HTC development screen. So, I can get into bootloader and TWRP (2.6.0.0 only), but can't flash ROMs. I'm just stuck with no OS and can't seem to find a work-around. My bootloader says Tampered and Unlocked/S-On. I did, however, use an unlock guide for the One X by accident, instead of the X+. That is the only thing I can think that would cause my troubles...

If you just search [ville] on the TWRP website, it should have the One S recovery you need. It doesn't matter if you have the T-Mobile of the International version.

Hi all,
I got the message about upgrading the OS to 5.0.
When I try to upgrade, It starts to download a file, and the the device is restarted.
Then, instead of automatically begin the installation, I get some menu (construced of several rectangle buttons).
One of them is "Install".
When I press it, it asks me to find a zip file.
What file and where is it???
Thanks, Tal.

I know where you are. Thats the bootloader.
Thats when you power on holding the volume down button and power at the same time.
Use the volume buttons until the arrow says "recovery" then hit power. It should boot into whatever recovery you have.
Prob TWRP

Where did the ota download to do you know? If not then try to find the ota zip on these XDA forums. Then when you are at twrp main screen choose install zip, browse to where you downloaded the ota zip on your phone (check downloads folder) then choose it and swipe to install. Once that is done (it could take some time, be patient) then choose wipe cache or something I can't remember exactly what it says, after that's done reboot using the button on the screen. Don't manually reboot. You should be upgraded to lollipop now

Maybe the OTA process do not download a zip file, but another type of a file??
Check the /cache folder using es file explorer not your computer
You might need root
Or just download the newest ota zip it's probably available in a thread here on XDA search for it

How do you not know this to start?
Follow this post it's the easiest guide I found.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2513701
It's gonna wipe your phone clean so back up pics, files, music, etc first. If you want to root after then there's a guide on that to in XDA.
Don't use any toolkits etc that is probably how you ended up with twrp recovery and didn't even know it lol learn the proper commands and use only those commands

I'm pretty happy with stock 5.0 but I miss OnmiRecents from OmniRom and xposed modules.
On my Note 3 I loved Temasek's CM12 because it included both of these, what ROM would you recommend if I want the bare minimum that supports Onmirecents and Xposed?
I tried useing xposed on stock without any FC's unsuccessfully.
if you are getting crashes with xposed then its likely the module might not be lollipop compatible, im running 5.0.2 with xposed and a few modules I use and its solid
you might be better off looking at some of the aosp/cm based roms in the dev section
I want to give aosp a shot since you recommended it and I think it's exactly what I'm looking for, but I'm having trouble flashing the zip I got from the Free Xperia Project site, I'm trying to flash AOPS_L_MR1_150312_leo.zip and all I'm getting is errors from all 3 custom recoveries, using an unlocked bootloader, the md5 is 2c4006757733d7a57997cfb31ba9efe but I can't find a hash on their site, the only error I have is "E: Installation aborted. press any key to continue". My internet is terribly slow and downloading a 200mb file takes hours, so I'll try re-downloading but I'd prefer not to.
Edit: I've tried 2 ROMs I've verified are downloaded correctly and they won't install, one with an unspecified error (AOSP) and the other will report wrong device saying "This rom is intended for D6603 z3, this device is 'leo'" (pac rom), I have no idea where the problem may be
well I never recommended it, I just said that you might be better off looking at aosp roms as that's clearly what you want rather than stock sony rom, what model is your device and are you flashing the boot.img from the rom and using that recovery?
Ok, I got a bit carried away I ment to say that you where right when saying that AOSP suited my needs.

I'm not flashing boot.img from the rom, I'm using CWM TeamWin and Philz recoveries I previously flashed while on stock to flash the zip files. Is this wrong? I've been doing this forever on other devices.
Do people that post ROMs provide boot.img to be flashed using flashtool previous to the flashing of their ROMs zip?
what device do you have? is it the 6603 or 6653? no its not wrong but sometimes the recovery is slightly different from the boot.img and I have seen it resolve the issue in the past, the installation aborted should give an error number after it, normally googling this can lead to why it failed

I'm using 6603 and the error I get isn't very descriptive "E:Installation aborted" right after selecting the zip, nothing else.
Only in one isntance did I get something different and the error was something along the lines of "this rom is for 6603 and your device is leo".
which rom did you try? as it sounds like the rom isn't for the 6603
You must edit update.binary and erase z3 and replace it with Leo.
Then re-zip and flash it.

For every .zip I try to flash? I'm not confident I could unzip, modify and re-zip without screwing up somehow, isn't there a specific recovery I can flash that will do this correctly?

Its not hard, open the zip using 7 zip or any winzip or WinRAR
Drag and drop the updater script out, modify it, drag and drop it back in.
Done
You can also flash CM by: flash boot.img from inside the firmware you want to flash. Unzip the CM ROM and extract boot.img and flash it. [via adb]
Then reboot into recovery.
It will bring you to CM recovery, from there apply update from sdcard1. [assuming that the ROM and gapps are there]
Flash CM
Again apply update and flash gapps.
Done.
After that you can flash another recovery if you want, or kernel, there is also a fota kernel, which updates only the recovery and keeps the kernel the same.
This method is without the need of editing update-binary.
Flash original firmware, [exactly as it is when downloaded] because the CM Recovery will check the signature.
Must have unlocked bootloader.
P.S.
If you edit update-binary do it with Notepad++
I had no idea I could extract boot.img from a ROM and flash it individualy using fastboot, this solved my problem 100%, thanks!
Because Manu11 didn't update his thread about the toolkit. I decided to post this to help Mi 4i users that got into trouble with TWRP unable to flash dh.harald's CM12.1
FEATURES
-Root (MIUI only, CM users can enable Root in Developer Options) Working on MIUI7 (thanks to @ss.suryakant95 for testing this out)
-TWRP Recovery
-Stock Recovery (just in case)
-EFS (IMEI) Backup and Restore

DOWNLOAD
(Some users had problems unzipping this ZIP with WinRAR, consider using free alternatives such as 7-zip)
MAIN URL: Click here to download (Please use this download, but if in any case you can't extract, you may use the mirror I provided.)
MIRROR: Click here to download.
HOW-TO
1. Enable Developer Options (Tap MIUI version 7 times in About Phone), and then in Developer Options, enable USB debugging.
2. Have you downloaded the ZIP? No? Download it, now.
3. Extract the downloaded ZIP wherever you like, keep in mind that all files must be kept together.
4. Connect your phone to the PC.
5. Run the Start.bat file.
ATTENTION: Please do a ROOT (I'll assume you're still in MIUI) before you flash TWRP, or you may be brought back into stock recovery. (Thanks to @omerjerk for testing this)
---
UPDATE: This toolkit's TWRP is deprecated (download the newest version here), but if you don't want to hassle with downloading another fastboot driver, you can still download dh.harald's recovery .img file, and copy your downloaded recovery to the extracted toolkit folder, then change dh.harald's recovery filename into twrp.img (UNTESTED)
I'll repack this toolkit with dh.harald's newest TWRP whenever possible.

This toolkit is made by magdag, all credits goes to him.

I can't speak for magdag, the dev. So, this is literally the version that is usable for flashing TWRP.
I don't expect any official support for TWRP. And I prefer CWM, if there's one.
does any one know to do a nandroid backup with twrp????? mines turning out to be 35mb!

Backup everything (all partitions) except the first in the list.
You may want to use the compression.
The backup should be somewhere between 3.5GB and 5.5GB depending on the options and the data.
You could install ROM Manager (from Koushik Dutta) from the Play Store.
Choose the TWRP as recovery and Unknown Device as device.
Then you can use this to backup with TWRP and it will choose the right options for you.

Just Google it. Seriously. Or go to MIUI Forums and see the options you got there, there should be plenty of MIUI Fastboot ROM since 6.5.6

Both root and twrp
I've MiUi 6.6.10 on my device.
I used this toolkit to flash twrp but I'm not able to do so.
Whenever I select the 2 option, it flashes the recovery successfully. But, when I boot to recovery again using adb reboot recovery, I get the stock recovery and not twrp.
What I'm doing wrong ?
P.S. I haven't rooted the phone yet.

It worked after root.
I think it should be added in the main post that root is required.
Hi
Not able to restore stock recovery with the toolkit. I've tried to flash stock.img manually in fastboot., but not able to get into stock recovery even fastboot show succeeded.

I am at work at the moment, so you wil have to wait until tonight.
For those who are having a hard time flashing TWRP using a PC, I just wanna share it to you guys! I have tested this myself on my Mi-4c
Note: This will not might not work if you are using stable/dev rom version 6.14 or higher due to locked bootloader. Please unlock your bootloader first
Requirements:
Mi-4c device
Full Developer ROM pack for our phone ( make sure you install GApps too)
TWRP image (TWRP 2.8.7.1 with English and Chinese V2 & V3)
TWRP Recovery 2.8.7.0 Dev ROM (Most Stable)
Flashify App
**And of course, courage and common sense
Disclaimer: Don't blame me if you brick your device, do it at your own risk.
1. Download a developer ROM from the official download page: Click Here or use this Developer ROM [/B]Note: This method might not work if you are using dev rom version 6.14 or higher due to locked bootloader. Please unlock your bootloader first[/B]
2. Flash the Developer ROM from the updater app and install GApps of course. Now, you should have root access on your phone.
3. Download the flashable TWRP zip from the original thread or below - Original TWRP Thread --- Thanks to 油炸包子-
TWRP Recovery 2.8.7.0 Dev ROM (Most stable especially for touch issues)
TWRP V2 Dev ROM Only
TWRP V3 Dev ROM or Stable
4. Open the TWRP .zip or .7z file you downloaded using an Archiver app or ES Explorer and you will find a recovery.img inside.
4.1 Extract the recovery.img to the root of your SDCard (you can rename it to anything you like just make sure the extension stays as .img)

}
5. Install Flashify from Playstore.
5.1 Launch the app, accept disclaimer then you will get a message that it needs root access.
5.2 Launch the Security app and provide root permission to Flashify.
6. After providing root permission to flashify, launch the app again and select Recovery image from the Flash tab, choose the extracted ".img" file that you have extracted to your SDCard then flash.
7. There should be a success "Flash complete" message then select "Reboot now" to reboot your phone.
Congratulations!! You should now have TWRP after reboot.
*****Access TWRP by powering the phone off, turn it back on by holding the power together with the volume up (+) button and it should take you to the TWRP screen if a few sec.*****
Want to update to TWRP V3? Follow the steps below:
Do this if you have the previous version (TWRP V2) installed, else, follow the steps above to get V3 directly.
Should you wish to update to the latest TWRP from the original thread: http://en.miui.com/thread-169401-1-1.html
1. Download the latest TWRP from your mobile: -
TWRP V3 Dev ROM or Stable
2. Extract the ".img" file, depends which ROM you're on if Developer or Stable.
3. Save it to the root of your SDCard
4. Boot your phone to recovery (Power & Volume (+) Up
5. Once on TWRP screen, select Install, from there you will need to select "Install Image" lower right, navigate to the root of your SDCard and select the ".img" you have previously extracted (TWRP V3), select "recovery" not boot, then Slide to Flash the new version.
Congrats! You have successfully updated your TWRP to V3.

It shouldn't be like that, but that's how it is right now. I'm not sure if there's any fix available, but I guess an updated version of the recovery will be released soon, that has this problem fixed..
Yeah this method works I have done it and easy as drinkin beer

Same here. Tested and working. I am on Mokee rom now.
Thanks for the guide but I found something wierd happening. After succesfully flashing twrp and rebooting it goes in twrp when I restart after that and try to go in recovery with volume up +power it takes me to stock recovery? Any ideas??:/
So version 3 works without any touch problems?

I'm using the v3 linked in this thread and the touch problem still exists. I have to wait 2-3 minutes before it works.
I tested the 2.8.7.0 version from miui.com and touch screen worked immediately. I'm not sure if it was just lucky or not, because I only tested it once. Maybe worth trying it and see how it works?
It'd weird because the one I have some times freezes and some times doesn't

Just reflash TWRP then reboot to TWRP, it should ask you if you want to either use it as read only or allow modification, select allow modification. Hope that helps.
