Best browser - Galaxy S6 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

I really hate chrome,I'm looking for soming less flashy but that still works
Sent from my SM-G925F using XDA Free mobile app

The stock S6 browser is the best. It's fast, smooth, and simple and straightforward. And it has reader mode.

Mercury

Which browsers offer text reflow? I am using opera since it does. Opera is not the greatest, but I can't seem to live without text reflow after zoom. If I could get that in chrome I would be so happy!

Opera user here. Fast, and easy to quickly add bookmarks via the speed dial tab.
Downside: always says 'can't load plugin' when youtube vids are embedded on message boards, and I can't find a plugin.

Chrome gets the job done, haven't faced any hassles even with 15-20 tabs open always.

Opera and Firefox

I use Stock Samsung one which is the best, and Adblock plus browser for sites with lots of ads like XDA.

[Q] What Browser is best? and why?

Hi all, I'm new to the android world, with the nexus s being my first android operated phone maybe even my first smart phone, had a Nokia n97 previous although it wasn't quite the smartphone advertised but thats another story.
The title says it all really I'd just like to know what browser you would recomend and why. I used to use opera on the n97 however there wasn't the selection available there is for android. I see dolphin hd pop up alot around the forums.
So please share your favorite browser and you reassons why. e.g speed, UI, customise ect
Cheers for everyone who takes part.
Firefox or Dolphin HD for the add-ons
Opera for speed
Stock browser for all-round
Stock browser for speed (less lag)
I also like the stock browser but I'm also a big fan of xScope Browser.
I usually use the stock because it seems the best all around as one of the above stated but to save pages I use Opera and I've been testing out some others as well
Im really liking the Dolphin mini beta at the moment. I find it quicker than stock and still runs everything perfectly.
For me the stock browser is the best atm :
- Firefox : looks promising, but way too slow for day-to-day use, needs optimizations
- Opera : don't like the rendering, almost impossible to click on links (try browsing Google Reader...), not really faster than stock (with turbo mode off)
- Dolphin / Dolphin HD : too bloated for me
The stock browser has been impressive so far. I haven't run into any problems so far

The only thing that bothers me in the stock browser is the navigation through open windows. I'd love to have some proper tabbed browsing.

I've extensively used the stock browser, Opera Mobile, and FireFox (nightlies and latest stable). I primarily use Opera Mobile (not mini) for almost everything because of how ridiculously smooth its pinch zoom and panning is compared to everything else out. To see its advantages, simply go to an image-heavy page like Gizmodo and try panning and zooming on any other browser (the newest FireFox included). To me, its smoother/better user experience is important than the javascript speed advantages in FireFox.
I have run repeated tests on both my N1 and my NS and have found that in SunSpider, the fastest is FireFox by a healthy margin, followed by the stock browser, distantly followed by Opera. However, in my experience, page loading has always been similar across all three, meaning that js speed doesn't factor that much in rendering most pages.
Extensions are a big draw in FireFox, as is Flash in the stock browser, but I find that Opera does everything I need natively. Plus, flash support is supposedly going to be added (as well as to FireFox Mobile).
x scope 6 is solid its fast and all around just great I know its not free but I think its the best one out at the moment until firefox comes out of beta and adds flash it may be king
stock for me.
Dolphin HD has a lot of add-ons that I thought sounded interesting and installed on my Galaxy S and Nexus One, but I never really used any of them, so that's a pointless feature for me. I found Dolphin HD to be bloated and much slower than the stock browser on any of my phones, even without add-ons.
I've kept the NS on stock based on past performance with Dolphin.
seems like I haven't really gave the stock browser the chance it deserves, to be honest dismissed it almost straight away.
Back to stock for me to give it a real test. Although I'm hoping firefox lives up to it's desktop browser standards.
Also quick question which is non related but I don't see the point in starting a new thread. I need to return my phone due to the back button not lighting up. I was just wondering if there is a away to save all my data to when I get my new phone i can put all my data back on. E.g phone numbers, sms msgs photos angry bird progess, music ect.
thanks again for any help.
I prefer the built-in browser for everyday use. I have one website that I get from a real estate broker which has some fancy frames in it that doesn't render correctly in the stock browser, for this site I use Opera mini.
i'm still can't decide which one is best
using (in no special order):
Stock 2.3 Browser
Opera Mobile
Opera Mini
SkyFire
Dolphin HD
FireFox beta
they all have their Cons/Pros
SkyFire was my main Browser until they screwed it up, and now it has become as broadware as Dolphin HD
I like both Dolphin and Skyfire for their Flash & Video support but... they are slow and broad.
FireFox still has much work to be done on it
Opera Mini & Opera Mobile is identical in Android, but in WinMo they were 2 different apps
so it boils down to Stock 2.3 Browser being the fastest, but.. not so great on Flash / Video support
can anyone answer my question on a way to back up all my data as I'm returning my phone tomorrow due to the back button light not working.
Is there away to back up all data, apps, contacts, photos, messages, angry bird progress. live wall papers. Or will i need to start all over again?
Also how can I earse all my data in order to return the phone.
Thanks in advance

Most desktop like browser??

So i have find he stock browser, skyfire, dolphin, and xscope all installed
and i cant find one that works really well for all pages, like a desktop browser.
what do you all use for your web browsing?
i use the dock, and the typing in web forums is pretty laggy i dont know if this is a browser, or dock issue though...
my default right now is dolphin, but skyfire seems to handle more complex pages better
Havd you tried firefox?

I had the same problem.
The only browser that can load my university website and about a dozen other pages that I frequent is Opera Mobile.
The other ones all have big gaps in pages, won't download files and pages look messed up -- even Firefox.
I haven't tried Skyfire, but I tried all the others mentioned.
Have you tried changing the user agent to desktop in the stock browser (in settings)? Web pages always show up exactly as they should for me with this setting.
Lag in the browser is honeycomb specific ..happens on xoom and galaxy tab as well

Maxthon works very well..
Sent from my Transformer TF101 using Tapatalk
Opera
Opera mobile have desktop like experience and overall very good browser
i have stock and maxthon installed and i use always the stock. Dispite the lag works pretty nice even for watching football transmissions.
I too don't really like any of the browsers, keep going back and forth when one does something that pisses me off I switch to another for awhile. I currently got Firefox, Dolphin HD, Opera, Maxthon installed and they all suck at different things. Overall the web browsing experience is pretty ****ty compared to ipad even without the flash, it's just so damn slow and laggy. Wish they'd bring out Atomic Web and Mercury browsers to Android, those both rock especially Mercury on the ipad.
anyone tried Dolphin for Pad? Its quite good! Replaced Opera with it!
I like Dolphin so far.
is this different than dolphin HD 6.0?

Yes and it's pretty ownage, I deleted Dolphin HD shortly after trying Dolphin for Tabs cause it ownz
Both Dolphin HD and Dolphin for Tabs work great. The stock browser is pretty good too. Just make sure you set the User Agent to Desktop.
Does no one elses dolphin have a weird graphical glitch when you tap in the address bar?

Since today I've upgraded from Dolphin HD browser to Dolphin for Pad. This new version was released yesterday and I like it very much! Since I already was a Dolphin user, this browser is even better dan the old one.
What's different in Dolphin for Pad?
It seems to work ok but I dont seem to have the "button" for gestures.....or am I missing something. Also how do you get quickly to the history without going through settings ?

In my opinion there is no a definite browser at this moment.
- No one has ad block but firefox.
- No one is able to upload files but Opera.
- No one has a private mode but stock browser.
- Opera is slow when showing pages already loaded in cache and it does not render pages until fully loaded.
- Firefox has an horrible square patron when scrolling. I don't understand why. And image scaling is quite bad. And don't support flash.
- Stock browser and Dolphin render quite fast as pages are loaded and perhaps are more balanced...
So at the end of the day I use firefox for regular browsing (due to adblock and a better tabs management in my opinion), opera when I have to upload something, for example torrent files to my transmission server, and stock one if I have to use private mode (specially if I have to access hacking and or scene blogs)...

Best Browser

What do you guys think is the best Browser for ICS or jelly bean on this device?
I had been using Xscope and really liked 2 features.
1. I could save my favorite sites on my computer as an html file and then just open that file on xscope and I had them all ready to go. I had roughly 60 sites, other browsers dolphin, opera, android could not do this.
2. My favorites would then be saved on my homepage in a "speed dial" like mode where I could just scroll and click on the site. I loved this because it was simple to use and looked great.
I would like a browser that could do this. I would also like a browser that could play flash on sites fairy well? If possible? If it happened to be blazing fast, that would be great.
Sites that I use
twitch.tv
espn.com
firstrowsports.eu
chess.com
xda!
Thank you for the advice!

never been able to use chrome on android yet. So I have no idea if its good or not.
Dolphin works the best on the sites that I go to. I can also save my favorites and just log in and have them back again when I flash a new rom.

IMO Chrome on phones sucks. I'm using it on my desktop/laptop and I love it. But as far as browsers for my mobile devices I go with Boat browser. It's simple, clean and bug free. It doesn't have the option to import bookmarks from other devices though, but I have few sites that I actually bookmark.
As far as Chrome syncing to the phone, just install an add-on to your desktop called Chrome to Phone.... you then install an app called the same thing on your phone and you can send ANYTHING you choose too(as long as you can open it in the browser) to your phone and have it automatically pull the webpage up or start a download etc...
I've tried literally every single browser there is multiple times. I've tried beta versions, lite versions, and everything in between. I've come to the conclusion that almost every browser for android absolutely blows. Seriously. They blow. The only good ones are ICS+ and boat browser with boat being the one I use. The rest are laggy, clunky, uncustomizable wastes. Chrome doesn't even have double tap to zoom images ffs.
Chrome for me. I have 3 devices and it saves mobile and desktop bookmarks. When you reflash, just sign in and everything is restored.
I use Chrome but noticed the stock browser loads pages a lot faster

ICS+ >Boat browser> the rest
I guess I will have to try a few then once my GIII arrives.
I appreciate all the advice.
ICS+ browser for me, I've always liked the aosp ics browser. Then Dolphin or chrome
Haven't tried any others, really but Maxthon Browser has kept me satisfied to not seek alternatives. Tabbed browsing with a home screen for shortcuts to frequently used sites.
Lastpass.com and the android browser associated with it is actually pretty sweet, autologins and password saving is excellent

That's where i'm at now. Before I liked opera mobile (not mini) but chrome is a bit nicer to use in my opinion.
I'm using Chrome on my PC and phone, I love the sync between the two. Shared bookmarks is awesome.
Ive tried out a few from peoples recommendations and I always come back to dolphin. I love the favorites on the left side to drag out and overall its always been smooth for me
Tap'n
Ok I have the ICS browser and Chrome. I logged into my gmail and chrome information. I did not see any of my bookmarks in chrome browser. However when I go to the ICS browser it has all my chrome bookmarks....
Can anyone help me out with that?
Maxthon
I really like Maxthon, instant back is a must for me. It is similar to Miren which I loved on Froyo/Gingerbread.
Opera: it's fast, has very good window management and incorporates the best text reflow on zoom in/out of the browsers I have tried. For that matter, Chrome and Stock ICS browsers don't reflow text and Firefox had its own issues.
Opera plays Flash apps fine, from what I've experienced.
Opera Link can offer a central sharing point for your favorites/bookmarks and other settings between your Opera browsers, so copying around a hardcopy file you've generated would probably not be necessary.

I have been playing with a lot of the browsers, does anyone know if any of them can stream tv such as..

http://atdhenet.tv/
etc?

[Discussion] Which Browser is better for Mobiles/Tablets

According to me Chrome, Dolphine And UC Browser are better !
For me Opera performs well as well. I might try Chrome soon too. :good:
I like firefox.

I don't understand why Chrome works so poorly. Its Javascript engine is among the slowest. It doesn't emulate mouse-over (press+drag). Etc.
I like the stock browser. Opera works well too (I've used it for years on my PC, and it's good on Android too... resizes text very well)
---------- Post added at 02:05 PM ---------- Previous post was at 01:58 PM ----------
Anyone know which browser doesn't re-download the page when its activity is reloaded? The way Android closes background apps can be annoying enough, but why do most (all which I know) browsers have to re-download the whole page?!?!
Dolphin Browser
Use Naked browser for speed. You can find it in Google Play.
I find the stock browser to be the best.
I like chrome because thats whats on my PC at home, but im using dolphin browser on my Gnote2
Sent from my SCH-I605 using xda app-developers app
After trying different browsers on my phone (Galaxy S Plus) and be deeply disappointed by Chrome, use that instead with satisfaction on the PC, I also believe that in the end better to use that stock!
Forgive my poor English!: (
Stock
For mobiles sure i use stock browser. Perhaps chrome is fast and usefully.
I prefer to use Firefox because it integrates really well with Firefox sync. If you use Firefox sync on the desktop it is really useful to have your passwords and bookmarks available on your mobile.
for me
Stock Browser >> UC Browser >> Firefox
In order of usefulness:
Opera, Stock, Dolphin (Jetpack), Firefox.
Opera Mobile and Stock are the _only_ browsers that have perfect text reflow and resizing.
All other browsers break in many scenarios particularly when browsing forums (Firefox and Chrome are quite bad with text becoming large and small seemingly at random).
I don't consider all the browsers that just skin the stock renderer. Chrome is actually quite terrible with slow javascript, noticeable input lag and isn't as smooth as the others.
Opera Mobile
I am on Opera Mobile, because it is very fast and doesn't need too much performance. I have also tried Dolphin and Chrome but they are a lot slower on my Galaxy i9003.
I think, opera is still the best browser even on smartphone

For me the better it's the stock browser 'cause its lightning
, and chrome its the seconth 'cause little bit minus performing but great features like full painless sync with alla your device... I've used dophin too with great consideration but for personal use i frefer the firsts two! ... It's like comparing smarphones or cars... Everyone have its own best choiches... Try and find yours ... Cause you are the user! ^^

Every Browser have any issues. For me, the Best is Dolphin with JetPack
It seems I keep going back to Dolphin, but what is annoying to me, which may be trivial, but when I load Google and other pages they are all damn small, that I have to pinch to zoom. Is there a way to get Dolphin to render the pages larger?

I think unchecked 'open pages in overview'.
OP, might I suggest Link Bubble? It allows pages to load in the background and gives much better quick-reference to links/sites. I love it because oftentimes I'm browsing by clicking on a link just to read one article, not necessarily to do any actual web browsing.
For example, I tend to browse Reddit using the app called Reddit Now, but when I click a story that it's linking to, it makes it much more manageable by loading in the background and blinking when it's loaded. PERFECT for mobile browsing. When you finish reading the article or looking at whatever the link sent you to, simply hit the back button and the bubble disappears! Of course, you can load that page in your full browser at any time by clicking the overflow button and selecting "Open in [browser]", but this is just a great app for those in-between cases when you really don't need to use the full browser just to view a single article. It's also great because it recognizes Youtube vids that are in the page and lets you open those videos straight to the Youtube app.
