New AT&T OTA Update

I just got a prompt for a new OTA update, but being rooted and running a ROM I couldn't install it. It gave no new information about the update such as size or fixes. Anyone else get this? I'm on an OC3 based ROM by the way.

Well, on second thought, I just went ahead and let the update run. It completed. Everything appears normal.

I confirm, it is a fix for Stagefright. Baseband version went from I337UCUFNJ4 to I337UCUFNJ5
+ SuperSU is working properly.

Were you rooted with the Flashfire method?

Anytime AT&T or Samsung offer a "security" update FOTA, I cringe. I'm on rooted Lollipop and absolutely have to remain rooted to use Total Recall call recorder (you can't imagine how many times it's saved my ass with baseless promises from AT&T and other utility vendors), so I'm always hesitant to upgrade to any FOTA's that may make it more difficult to either flash a better ROM, or other utilities that it might block. Call me paranoid, but I'm going to hold off and try to find a better solution to threats to my OS. Belarc Security Advisor (Free) is highly respected, and a non-conventional system scan that identifies real threats. Running it yesterday and just now; show no threats. I realize that Stagefright is a threat, but I'm running antivirus software that I trust and keep my phone backed up locally on a regular basis.

Well, I also let it run. Figured worst case, it would be rejected due to root. It ran, no errors, still on root (using Flashfire method). Stagefright detector now shows my device is safe.

If you're using the Stock AT&T Lolipop, and Flashfire method for rooting, you will be OK to let the update run. It ran with no issues for me and it kept root.

That's exactly how I did it. My only concern is that it may install patches that could further restrict future modifications.
I also just completed running Lookout and it found no threats or vulnerabilities. I'm staying where I am until I hear more feedback.
Thanks for your advice. I'll be keeping an eye on it.

I upgraded with the install stock but "keep root" method, using flashfire...
The update failed at 29%.
I did a factory reset, and it still failed at 29%...
What are my options now?

I used Flashfire to install the tethering addon... I wonder if that is the culprit.
Installing without thethering... will update with results.
And It's a pain to download that ATT update each time. --- Their servers are SLOW!

Same story here. Update stops and phone reboots about a third of the way through. Defrosted all Samsung/AT&T bloat and tried again. Same story. Bummer.

I rooted my wife's 0C3 with Kingroot and tried to take the update. It failed.
Maybe I should try again since I just used triangle away to get rid of the "custom" nag at boot.

Yes. Rooted with flashfire, on oc3 bootloader. I ran the update through the normal OTA method, not trying to install it through flashfire. It worked fine and root stayed normal. Verified when titanium backup ran last night on its normal schedule.

Well, it updated fine, using just the straight rooted rom, no additional flashes. No more fails at 29%...
It appears that adding in anything extra, de-bloat, hotspot enable, etc. will cause the update to fail.

Reinstalled the rooted stock ROM and the update worked fine. Still have root. All is groovy.

Hello everyone, from my new Galaxy S6 Edge on Sprint. I've been with Sprint for 15 years and have been on Android since the HTC Hero. Every time a HTC fagship device on Sprint came out, it found its way into my pocket. I finally decided to jump ship from HTC and give Samsung a shot.
With the Samsung S6 Edge being my first Sammy device, there seems to be a lot I need to learn. Are there any tips or tricks that I should know?
I'm on a cross country drive and picked up the phone in Yakima WA last night. It will be several days before I have access to a PC, so when my trip ends in Wisconsin. I want to have everything researched on how to root and install TWRP.
First of all is this KNOX thing something I should be concerned for? What is the go-to method for root? Best Buy ran the BOI1 update on me yesterday. Is there a one click root available? Anything special needed to know for installing TWRP?

First you're on the wrong thread. You should be in the Q&A section. First you may need to install the Samsung drivers to your computer. Download the preferred Odin 3.10.6 flashing tool. Go to your phone settings/build number, and tap 10 times until you see developer options enabled. Next go to settings/developer options, scroll down to Oem unlocking and turn it on. Next, to root you will need to use the odin tool to install the custom rooted kernel. Once that's complete, you can install TWRP. I'll include my link to twrp and kernel. Remember to Odin kernel first, then twrp. I don't think I forgot anything.

Knox will be tripped rooting your phone. Will not be able to use Samsung pay, voids your Samsung warranty so you cant send back to Samsung, but does not void your carrier warranty, you can take it to them. Nothing else to worry about knox, doesn't affect anything.

No! He should do the normal root process. According to the OI1 update you can't go back. The rom works on OI1 according to reports

I've rooted, installed recovery, and S-off'ed every single HTC that I owned, the talk about Odin and KNOX threw me off a bit.

Yea I had the OG EVO back in the day. I know all about it. Samsung is much simpler when it comes to rooting

Thank you again. I'm rooted and have TWRP installed. A message popped up afterwards ”unauthorized actions have been detected galaxy s6". It was taken care of by freezing "SecurityLogAgent" with TiBu.

issues after mm upgrade
Here's what I experienced after update...
Once you upgrade you can't flash back to stock. LG flash tool fails because it couldn't detect the model. After setting up McAfee it disables root and usb debugging. You have to go into McAfee and turn those options off. So it seems like once you go to mm you can't get back to lollipop. I'm also having proximity sensor issues also with the screen going black during a call. I guess once we can get root I'll be able to install another rom.

Hi, I got the notification and I was not in WiFi network so decided to cancel it and check it again once I got to wifi zone. But when I checked next time, I just get a message, your phone is uptodate. I tried rolling date forward to circumvent the 24 hour check, but no luck. Any ideas to get the update notification back ?

tried the update today, it just sends me to twrp recovery screen every time

You can't install a factory update while rooted. Come on guys you should know this.

I had the same thing happen to me so what I did to make the phone think I haven't checked for an update and avoid the 24 hour wait I did a hard reset. I want to point out that I didn't care much about all my apps being deleted and you might want to back them up. Note: I was on stock lollipop

Anyone do an adb pull and extract the modem yet? Want to flash it on Fulmics 5.0.

Not sure if there is an "anti roll back" But You cannot use flashtools once updating to Lollipop you must use LGUP.

Where do I get a KDS for the 850 along with the LGUP, seems everything points to the 855? thanks. I can't seem to root after the upgrade to 6.

Its KDZ. the D850 is TOT method only.

FWIW, if you're experiencing DND issues after the 6.0 update check settings > dnd > advanced > schedule. kept noticing on my moto360 it was switching to dnd for no reason. turns out some scheduling magically appeared. been running 6.0 without a hitch since last night. had to manually disable at&t video calling and a few other things but im happy with it thus far.

You have to do a hard reset through stock recovery. Don't do it if you are using a custom rom. If you are not experienced I recommend you wait to see if you get another update notification

That is because flashtool you cannot use if your on MM you use LGUP with the TOT file.

It's in the 2nd post of my guide in the link I posted earlier ^^ but just remember at your own risk as I haven't seen anyone try yet. Example like the G4 after a certain point people bricked there AT&T model from downgrading. But if you do risk it and everything went smoothly let us all know!

No luck, tried hard reset through recovery twice and before that general reset several times. I'm not getting the notification for the second time
Any other ways to force update ?

SM-G930T Root Doesn't Void Warranty

The latest root method for the Samsung Galaxy S7/S7E (AT&T/T-Mobile/Verizon/Sprint)
Does not void warranty and also does not trip the KNOX counter.
In order to remove root (un-root) you can flash the original firmware in Odin.
Also to answer any further questions the root does work on the latest T-Mobile update for the S7
(G930TUVU3APG1).
This root works on all Marshmallow versions on Android on the T-Mobile S7

So, this works? I'm reading a lot of comments on the page you linked saying that users are having bootloop issues and issues across the board... Nothing I read in the comments section suggested ANYONE got this to work flawlessly. Are you on the T-Mobile variant of the S7? If so, can you post a video of your phone, with clear root and explain in depth your step by step procedure? I literally just got this phone and don't want to **** up a phone I'm paying on.

I apologize for replying so late ... Ive been busy. But this does work 100%, only a backup is required(before root because root will most likely put you in a bootloop and you have to factory reset after)... Hopefully my video will be out before July 30. But, before you root I also want you to be aware that the root uses an eng kernal which is not meant for daily use and causes lag, but you can optimize the phone to work as it did when it was stock.

It is the only root method so far. It is not required but you can unencrypt before rooting. Rooting while already encrypted won't cause any harm since /data is encrypted not /system . But I still recommend unencrypting so you don't run into any issues.

I did try this on my phone, and it acted like it worked (I could get the unlocked padlock with "custom") but I could never actually grant anything root access. That was when it was usable. The first round didn't get stuck in a bootloop. After I figured out that I didn't have root, I wiped the phone and started again, and again didn't get a boot loop, but did a factory reset anyway. After that point, it was too laggy to even try to use. I fought with it for a couple of hours trying to figure out a work around, but got fed up and DLed the APK1 stock firmware from Sammobile, and Odin'd the phone back to stock.
This is the first time I've used an non hacked phone since my iPhone 3G way back when. It feels really weird.

i cant find any evidence that its even possible to root sm930t if there is somebody who can let me in on this big secret please indulge me

No, no Knox flags. Technically the engineer boot is official, even if done in a not so official way. Once I flashed back to stock APK1, it looks like it did right out of the box.

What I listed is what I was able to do. I'm not certain it ever had root access. When it showed "custom" at boot, I couldn't grant anything root access. When it acted more laggy, like was described, the lag was so bad, it wasn't usable. Mind you, these instructions were written prior to the APK1 firmware that was on my G930T from new.

It's smg930t, just search smg930t root max lee

I can confirm that this method does indeed work. You need to be careful and follow the instructions, but it will root your device. You may notice lag after rooting. Just install a kernel tool and set it to on-demand.

Is the zs551kl officially bootloader-unlockable and able to be rooted?
If that's the case, it would mean it's a much better phone than many of the latest flagships: sdcard, jack, FM radio, dual SIM, larger battery, stereo speakers, more complete GPS, good resolution screen, etc.

I haven't seen anything yet, but I assume it's coming. I don't think there will be a lot of roms though.

Yes I have it....but currently there isnt any modded kernel with root enabled or any rom...so there is no point on unlock the bootloader....but ASUS has made public the app to unlock the bootloader.

No, because , like I said before...until we have a Rooted kernel available to download or a custom rom to install there is no point on install TWRP or unlock the bootloader....I'm pretty sure that in the next months there are going to be Roms and Custom Kernels (Rooted), it's too soon the phone was released on October (the past month).
About what made me chose this phone...it was
- Unlockeable Bootloader
- Snapdragon 835 as CPU
- 6 GB of Ram
- Good camera
- ASUS it's a good brand.
- FM raido
The phone its pretty damn fast...multitasking is amaizing...the battery dont seems so well like my, now broken, LG G5 but at least it runs for 1 day and a few hours but maybe its due the "new phone effect" (you play with it more the first days of use XD)

Magisk should give you root as long as bootloader can be unlocked.
I'll watch this space for root as I'm about to go get one myself because Snapdragon 835, then I have 15 days to test it on one game to decide whether to keep or return, lol.

That's what I thought: once you unlock the bootloader and ADB-flash TWRP, you should be able to install SuperSU or Magisk (with corresponding manager app) and be good to go. So please test and let us know if you can.

Sorry to disappoint you but I'm not going to unlock my bootloader right now....the reason the phone its new (and expensive), there isn't a single rom to install or kernel to flash (on my LG G5 you have to flash another kernel in order to have root, but maybe that has change).
More importante there isnt any unbrick guide yet if something fails plus my phone it's not being selled on my country so there isn't any kind of warranty or repair service if something fails. WIth 6gb of ram I can deal with some ASUS apps pre installed so I dont need to root it right now.
But like a said before...its a great phone...damn faster one! i'll recommend it.

rblanca has a point though, with no way to restore the phone should something go seriously wrong, I won't try any more exotic methods to try to crack open that bootloader at the moment either. The various guides that float around on the web look dangerous at best.

Good news!
Asus fixed the unlock app ( https://www.asus.com/de/Phone/ZenFone-4-Pro-ZS551KL/HelpDesk_Download/ ) and bumped it to version 9.1.0.0
It now successfully unlocks the device's bootloader. I went ahead and did it since I already voided my warranty when trying to unlock it with the previous, bugged version anyway.
Works fine, fastboot reports the bootloader as unlocked. Device contents got factory-wiped as per announced in the app, so make sure to back up your things if you wanna do it. :silly:
