[Q] GPS is not working - T-Mobile LG G2

I have lg g2 d801 every thing is working well except for gps issue .
I used gps test app to check gps satellites..
It shows 27 satellites visible 0 in use.. So not locking.
please i need help
i have tested with 4.4.2 and 5.0.2 the same thing no gps

There are two different problems with the gps on G2. One is hardware and the other software.
1)The hardware one is related to a bad signal due a bad antenna o bad contact of the antenna. The solution to this problem is to open the phone and try to make a better contact between the antenna and the phone internals(search the forum for videos and more detailed explanations)
2)The software one is related to bad settings on the gps.conf file on /system/etc. You have to change the closest ntp servers for the place where you live (Again you can find more details for this searching the forums)
Hope this response helps you to get started

If you tried different roms then it's the internal antenna this happened to me luckily I had the warranty.

GPS problems on desire s

Hi.
I'm from Russia. Sorry for not perfect english.
I bought my HTC Desire S about 2 weeks ago on clove.co.uk.
It is cool phone but i have problems with GPS.
Applications can't show my place if i uncheck flag "Location->Use wireless networks " in phone Settings.
I tried to use Google maps, open gps tracker, Yandex maps.
Also i tried "GPS TEST". I waited 15-20 minutes. It finds 9-10 satellites, but latitude and longitude equals 0.
I tried "GPS FIX" but it also useless.
Can anyboby help me?
Is it hardware or software problem?
Thanks.
Are you outside (not in building)? From my previous experiences, I can say GPS doesn't work in buildings (or isn't that accurate).

Same thing here. I'm from Russia too. I've just bought the device, and have almost the same problems. I tested the device outside my office - still 10 minutes to get GPS locked
I have been experiencing the same issues outdoors in south west UK makes foursquare impossible

Have the same problem here
Installed "GPS Test" and it shows the strengths of the signals of the satelites.
I haven't had a value over 36 SNR but it finds about 10 satelites very fast. Then it takes 5 min to lock and it is impossible to lock if you are walking.
Is the GPS better on your devices. Would be interesting to hear values from people who don't have problems.
Hi guys...this is most probably cause by the presence of built-in A-GPS feature....due to that feature DS can no longer lock on it's own...or it means a great struggle...Locking onto GPS requires a great computing power... apparently the GPS chip in DS isn't the top product...
Hey, if you're root/S-OFF, did you try this: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1060963 ?
I had the same issue but it's gone after restart.
Having the same issues here, this is a return the phone type fault, and no gps = key things missing from the phone.
It was hard for me to get a fix accurately but GPS Fix really helped. But definitely go outside to use it.
seems like a-gps has old data, dunno how to refresh it on it's own, but the free app "gps status" will do it if necessary. be sure you have internet access (wifi or cellular), gps is on, and start the app, it should update the a-gps data and the phone should find a fix. otherwise the gps sattelites are transmitting the same data (almanach) but very slow and it takes sometimes 15-20 minutes. the alamanachs contain the latest corrections and without them any gps device will give rubbish as output.
i cant lock gps...any suggestion?
It's always worked pretty well for me.
GPS Fix works wonders.
I have the same problem and I have tested with the HTC Hero as well with the same problem. I have been on the Orange to see if is there problem but with no luck! Trying GPSfix now! I am wondering if this is a Radio problem or a handset problem! I hope it is not a handset problem!!
Using GPS Status is saying I can lock on to 2 satellites in my room but I lose them very fast. I need to test in other places around Newport and Cardiff to see if I can get similar results.

basically yes...
Basically it's because this phone uses aGPS, not GPS. And Qualcomm's aGPS chip has some issues. Read this...

Yes likely as aGPS pulls satellite info from your cell towers. You may still find though, as I do, that even with the best radio, you'll still need to occasionally run GPS fix every few weeks. My old desire never had this. Mine will get a lock in 2 seconds now, but for some reason if I don't use GPS for a couple of weeks, I'll be back with waiting and waiting for a lock.
I may be noticing it more because oranges 3g service in my area for months (t-mobile merger issues it seems) has been so poor that I've turned 3g off to avoid shocking battery drain and hopeless intermittent data services. I rely on wifi. Now I know why I'm not getting a good lock sometimes. I use an off line gps app as I can't rely on orange 3g to let google maps work. With 3g off I'm not pulling down the aGPS data. This GPS fix app (however it does it) solves it.

GPS not working?

I'm new to this but it seems like I need data/wifi to use GPS. Most phones I thought just use GPS signals (I'm on Weapon G2X latest version by the way).
Or is my gps broken? If it is can someone link me to a fix?
You should find threads in here and general forum to help with your problem just browse through the pages

Well you need data because you need to download the map/routes for every time you use the GPS. In normal GPS units like Garmins, the map is already pre-installed into the unit thus you don't need data.
There are navigation apps you can purchase in the Android Market that store all the maps on your phone so you don't need a data connection to use them.

GPS on the G2x seems so broken. It works about 75% of the time. At my house I can get a lock in around 10 seconds but anywhere else it's usually 5+ minutes.
I've tried all the fixes, configs, rom combinations.. it's just luck I guess. My LG Optimus finds several in under 5 seconds and gets a lock instantly but the satellites it sees are not in the same spot as on my G2x at all.

[Q] GPS Won't Work

It hasn't been a problem to me until recently but ever since I rooted my Inspire 4G my GPS hasn't worked at all. Everytime I put a location in, it just says "Searching for GPS" and it never connects. I don't know if this will help but here are some things I've found on my phone
When I dial *#*#4636#*#* I get a bunch of info. In that info it says "GPRS service: Disconnected" (I think that's the problem)
After reading that I think I have the wrong radio version? When I go to "About Phone" in the settings I found my Baseband version. It is 12.39.60.19P_26.06.04.06_M
I don't know anything about radios or how to fix or update them (If that's the problem)
BTW I'm running Android Revolution HD 6.1.3
You're running the radio that came with the phone originally, and that could be the problem. Best bet for help would be to ask in the AR Q&A forum-Searching would have been a good idea. Also, you might want to read the radio sticky in the DEV forum.
I tried 3 different radios and none of them worked. I also tried a different rom. I tried Android revolution with the new radios and nothing. And i tried the newest beta of Ice cream Sandwich and still nothing. Maybe it's not the radio. Could it be something else? The new radios I tried were said to work with ARHD...
Radio shouldn't matter. Perhaps is is just loose. Check out this thread:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1101066
I pulled the GPS antenna off and pulled up the gold contacts and cleaned off the contacts on the antenna with a q tip. I put everything back together and tried the GPS but.....nothing. It still won't connect and the GPRS service still comes up as disconnected...
But now knowing that those metal contacts are for antennas... I pulled up the 2 little metal contacts that are under the battery door and under the sim and sd card cover and now my WiFi and cell reception are WAY better than they ever were. I used to get 2 bars of cell sitting on my couch but now I have full bars. Same with my WiFi when I am on the second floor.
Well, glad to hear that you improved signal. Bummer about GPS, but even though GPRS has all three of the GPS initials, it has absolutely nothing to do with GPS. GPRS is "General Packet Radio Service" and is the lowest level of data communications on our phones. I'ts more-or-less 1G data. 2G is "Edge", then there's 3G and 4G, but none of those have anything to do with GPS.
I had the same issue with ARHD being 6.1.3 ,6.1.5 or the newest 6.2.0...
Gps just wouldnt lock...there's a Q&A in that thread for possible GPS fixes and this one worked best, all others no dice.

Thank you so much!! That worked for me! I lock onto 10 satellites in like 8 seconds and in the GPS app it locks on before the map even loads! The GPS on this phone hasn't worked for about 6 months I'm so happy it's working again.
Thank you everyone who gave their input on here. I fixed my GPS and learned a few things I'd be so lost without you guys lol
Glad you found your fix for the issue. I had a similar problem when I first rooted and installed ARHD 6.1.0 with the recommended radio. This also fixed my issues.
does fix only work for ARHD? because im using rcmix3d runny v4.0, and im having issues with gps also.

[Q] has anyone encountered issues with CM 11 and gps?

i'm not sure if it's me dropping my phone untill the up button stopped working or a rom issue. i've been reading about it, and it seems to be a general problem with CM 11.
Try a different rom.

In the adjacent Development forum, there are at least 4 ROMs other than CM11 (Slim, Omni, Fat (or whatever CM11-variant is called), LiquidSmooth), which is what I think the other poster was talking about.
That said, my wife runs nightly CM11 on her Relay, and we've seen a few times where the GPS signal gets lost for seemingly no reason, manifesting itself as "Signal Lost" in the middle of navigating using Google Maps. It looks like the GPS driver gets into a bad place (not sure if it crashes, or just hangs), as disable/enabling GPS lets it find signal again.
Of course, this only seems to happen when we're out and about navigating, so it's hard to get logs.
I don't have any issues. I am on the 3/06 nightly and I also use GPS Status.
Also, keep in mind that GPS works by locating satillites. Do you have a clear view of the sky?
Also, GPS signal can be spotty and undependable. I remember a case when a faulty antenna on a boat jammed GPS for a 5 mile radius. Also, there are truck drivers out there that are intentionally jamming the GPS devices that their employers have installed in their vehicles.
Even if the signal is temporarily lost, your device should be able to use dead reckoning, cell towers, and wifi to know where you are.

[Q] GPS Issues on all ROMS

Hello all,
I'm having issues getting GPS to lock on every rom. Be it AOSP or TW based, my GPS has trouble locking and updating. Often times in Google Maps and Waze it looks as though the arrow is facing 90 degrees in the opposite direction. Another problem is that after the GPS locks, it then does not update as frequently as it should causing the arrow to stay in one place on Maps and it can take minutes to update with your new position.
Has anyone else been experiencing this?
My baseband version is VRUCML1
And my location settings have been set for high accuracy.
Edit: This issue has been fixed thanks to TheHobbyist

Hey there. I had gps issues before as well. I tried literally everything on the software end of things with no luck. However, I took the back off of my s3, tightened the screws (you need a special small screwdriver), booted back up, and viola!
I know it sounds odd, but trust me on this one and give it a go ☺

Having a very similar issue. I'll try the screw fix, I suppose, but I feel that the problem is more with updating than locking, leading me to believe that it may be a software problem.
Please post if you have found a solution! Any help would be greatly appreciated!
I swear by the screw fix. After your GPS is fixed, use GPS STATUS free on the play store for optimal gps performance

You Sir are a miracle worker.
If I could get a technical explanation for why this worked I would appreciate it. I have no idea how this was even possible.

I'm glad to hear yet another success story! :good:
Regarding a technical explanation, the gps does rely on signal reception (gps signal reception) and as such, it makes use of an antennae that is incorporated into the body of the phone. When the screws are tight, the contact between the gps and the antennae it uses is better and you get better gps reception.
(This is my theory)
I don't make cell phones, but I work with electronics hardware a lot. In my case, the screws were loose because my kid is always throwing my phone across the room =)
If you ever are browsing xda and see an s3 owner with gps issues, please take the time to share this fix with them! :good:
