is better stock kernel or ak?
You can't say one kernel is better, ak kernel has lot's of settings to tweak your device how you like it(for best performence, battery life etc) but stock kernel will just work and you won't have possible toubles after a rom update if something doesn't work anymore

I am wondering how Kernel and ROM compatibility work, in simple terms. How do I know if a Kernel will work with a custom ROM?
For example, I was on a rom which came with M-Kernel, lean kernel, and stock kernel as options. I also am using Franco kernel on my phone. I've just flashed a new rom that did not have a kernel choice. How would I know if could use M-Kernel (or any kernel for that matter) with this ROM?
I know sometimes ROMs will list what kernels are recommended and some kernel pages will recommend roms, but what if they don't? Can any kernel work on any rom?
Thank you!
Each kernel thread will list what type of ROM they work on, AOKP, AOSP, Stock etc.
You can't always use any kernel you need to check the thread.
I'm actualy on AndroidParanoid 4+ Beta2 by Nims11 (i9100), Not the best perfomance, but this is still beta phase. And I'm litle confuse about kernel. Which one is the best option for this ROM? Any experience. Thanks.
Hi guys. I've been following both the android and original android development sections of the OPO forum and have found no kernel that can overclock the OnePlus One running stock (rooted and BL unlocked) CM11s.
So, my question is very simple: is there any kernel that overclocks CM11s? (Yes, i know it is plenty fast already, the only purpose i have for it is bragging rights at the bar TBFH and to see how far it can go)
There is currently no custom kernel with overclocking features that will boot on CM11S.
If you really want it then you can go and flash a custom ROM and flash a kernel such as ak kernel which does have overclocking up to 2880MHz.
Do not flash ak kernel while on 11S, your phone will not boot.

Thank you for you answer. Yes, I realize it wont boot on CM11S. infact, that is the first warning you read upon seeing the kernel.
I guess I will have to wait, since I think CM11S is by far the best ROM for the OnePlus... I had already installed 5 different roms on it and flashed furnace kernel only to see no difference in benchmarks (i think it's because it throttles, even though i stuck it in the cooler)

Benchmarks mean absolutely nothing. Its all about day-to-day performance. Custom ROMs are better in my opinion because currently on 11S there are numerous crucial bugs that are affecting the phone from being used. Just to name some,
- In-call audio volume fixed.
- Some workarounds on the touchscreen problem.
... the list goes on and on but I don't feel like explaining all of them but custom ROMs offer a lot more features than what stock has to offer plus they give you a sneak preview of whats to come in the next OTA without having to wait for it.
The decision is up to you, they're all free after all. Thats the joy of custom ROMs and kernels
I'm thinking of installing a custom kernel (elementalX) but I'm not interested in overclocking it or anything like that, so I'd be running it on vanilla settings. My question is that is there any point in flashing a custom kernel in this case? Will I benefit from installing it (maybe the phone will run a bit smoother, better battery life, etc) or will I just be creating more potential issues?
Currently running LibertyROM (4.4.2 KitKat, Sense 6) with whatever kernel it came with.
bump!
oh c'mon. is it really that stupid of a question?
Hello, can anyone please tell me what the best custom roms and kernels are to use on my Z5 E6653? I have MROM installed but it seems that development for the rom has stopped. I am looking to try a new rom and kernel that is suited to giving me the best performance without killing the battery too much. Any suggestions for roms and kernels to try would be appreciated, thank you.
Hello there.
I have arter97 kernel but i want better battery results.
What can i do in FK manager settings to make my battery better then ever?
Flash a custom kernel and don't touch anything, especially tweaks like xxx, FDE, l speed etc.
