[Q] Samsung Galaxy S6 won't get past "NAND write start" HELP!! - Galaxy S6 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

I understand that there are many other posts about this particular issue but very few are solved and even if they are it is usually phone specific. There is no guide for the S6 yet, that I know of so I shall continue
Anyway I tried to flash the stock firmware using Odin to get out of a soft bricked situation. I originally tried to update the software via Smart Switch which failed. Then it asked to perform an emergency recovery via Smart Switch, this also failed spectacularly. Ive tried phoning customer support with no help as it was rooted previously.
Quick summary:
1. I unrooted then factory reset + wipe cache
2. Update via Smart Switch failed
3. Emergency recovery via Smart Switch failed
4. Odin pauses at "NAND write start" when attempting to flash
I have used Odin 3.9 and 1.3 with multiple stock firmwares both .tar.md5 and trying just .tar (it helped another user) with no results
PLEASE HELP AS I DONT WANT A 400 POUND PAPER WEIGHT
Thanks
PevDog

I had the same thing. Try a different Odin version. I used the one from the thread in the general forum. I forget which version it is. I think it is 3.10.6

If you just flashed Android 5.1.1 then reflashed old 5.0.2 it will not work. You may need to wait for the specific 5.1.1 firmware for your country. Sammobile is a good place to check if its available. Try changing the data cable to another one, or plugging it to USB 2 port instead of USB 3. Also disable your antivirus. Last resort is bringing your S6 back to Samsung for warranty repair. I hope it helps.

i managed to download a 5.1.1 french version which I'm trying. also i have used different ports but not a different cable. I want to try Odin 3.10.6 but every time i try to find and download it it never works
I am unsure if it was 5.1.1 or the earlier firmware I am trying to use.
Thanks for your replies guys, much appreciated. Im getting to the stage of thinking I should dump the brick and getting a new one tbh. I'v exhausted all other options as Customer support won't help knowing my warranty is void.

just to clarify i didn't flash with 5.1.1 then try to flash a lower firmware. I factory reset then tried to update through smart switch which failed and lead to this horrific bricked situation

It happens on odin, there is a solution but I don't know if it works on 5.1.1, wait for my edit.
Ok here it is

haha sorry i already worked it out! all back up and running now!!! Thank you thank you thank you so very much :good:

Good for you. I had about 4 NAND write fails before a successful one.

Dude I had the exact same problem as you about three times! I had to extract the firmware and delete the hidden.img from it then put it back into.that format. The biggest pain..
Worst thing was waiting forever only for it to FAIL right at the end, lol.

[Q] Tried to root Korean SM-P900; now stuck in reboot loop

Hi,
I have a Korean SM-P900 that I tried to root with CF AutoRoot using Heimdall. I identified the recovery and cache partitions using print-pit, then flashed the recovery.img and cache.img to their respective partitions. After that it started booting, and was stuck at the Samsung screen for several minutes.
I then rebooted it by holding down the power button. When it was booting back up, it showed a message in Korean and with a counter that counted up to 79, then showed a similar message counting up to another number. It kept doing that no matter what, never booting up, even if I rebooted it again.
After that I tried flashing it again the same way. Now it shows the same message as earlier, but actually boots into the Samsung initial setup screen. However, I can't get past it, because a message showing "MyScript ResourceManager", followed by some Korean text, blocks me from doing anything, and if I hit okay it just reappears.
Any ideas on how to unbrick it?
Try going into recovery and do a Full reset. If that doesn't work, download the Korean firmware (or whichever version you want, as long as it is SM-P900) and flash back to stock using Odin. Messing with partitions using Heimdall can be tricky and dangerous if you don't have a PIT file for your device. Hope this works for you.

Going into recovery and doing a reset fixed the problem. Thank you very much!
The reason I didn't flash back to stock earlier was because I couldn't find the Korean stock firmware anywhere, and I was unsure if I could flash another country's firmware to it without breaking something. Nice to know that I can.
Now that it's functional again, will it be okay to try to root it again, this time using Odin?

Yes, flashing another region is ok, but you may have issues with keyboard languages and wifi channels being different. Yeah just use Odin for CF-Autoroot. You can download a recovery image to flash if it gets stuck on cache.img. It's in the cf-autoroot thread for the 12.2. Best to read the entire thread before you start. Good luck.

Towelroot is only for Qualcomm based devices. SM-P900 uses an Exynos SOC.

Odin stuck on NAND Write start

Hi hope you guys can help me. I recently bought an unlock s7 but it has the three network start up screen and three bloatware on it. I downloaded the latest BTU firmware from sammobile and tried to flash it using odin hoping that this would give me a fresh unbranded firmware. When i try to flash the files (AP,BL,CSC and CP) it stops at "NAND Write start' in the dialogue box and "set partition' at the top box. What am i doing wrong? What have i to do to install the unbranded BTU firmware? Thanks in advance
Have you solved this issue ?
I have the same problem now, trying to flash an official stock rom on my S7 and it also gets stuck at "Nand write start".
Try to flash official firmeware without hidden.img inside.
That solved the issue on galaxy s6 series.
Correct me if i'm wrong.

Thanks @juli.freaky, I will give that a try as well.
I also got another possible solution to try to flash the PIT file first.
I will try both solutions
Hope this will help.
You loose all your data if you flash a firmeware with the pit if i'm right but i'm not sure. If you flash the stpck rom without hidden.img you won't loose your data.
That's the situation on the galaxy s6 but i'm not sure how it proceed with the galaxy s7
Best regards

Thanks for the heads up, but I don't mind losing my data as I will create Titanium backups first before I flash
I will try it later this week, as I need to have a full functioning phone right now.
But I will surely post my findings here, so others can find the solution in the future.

Before you flash the BTU firmware have a look at this thread relating to the Identify Unsaved Numbers option here as your not in the UK, you may need to modify the others.xml as mentioned in the last post otherwise the option will be grayed out.
With your phone connected to you PC in developer options turn off USB Debugging then turn it on again and see if the message pops up on your phone to Authorize your PC it can reset the authorization which will allow Odin to work properly, use Odin 3.10.7.
Check in developer options that OEM Unlock is turned on then when you boot into download mode make sure FRP is Off.
was having same issue, came here for the answer, tried some of the mentioned things that didn't work but when downloaded the latest odin and flashed with it, it was worked like a charm.
also the post above mine is very helpful. so do read it.

P3100 Nand write failed

Hi Guys,
I was using SlimKat 4.4 on my galaxy tab. One fine day the tab stopped booting, I tried flashing the original firmware(from sammobile) but it wouldn't flash. Every time I try to flash, I get a message on odin stating that Nand Write complete(failed)
Can someone please help. I've googled around and I've also tried some of the method stated to work. I've bought a new genuine samsung cable for the cause as well. Can someone please point me in the right direction to fix the tabled.
Thanks in advance
Cheers

This could be the dreaded emmc bug . To make sure, can you boot in recovery? If you can, try flashing other roms. If it still boots up with Slim6 and everything intact, it 99% could be the emmc. Only an emmc upgrade or motherboard replacement can fix it.
EDIT: Maybe you could look here http://forum.xda-developers.com/galaxy-tab-2/help/soft-bricked-tab-gt-p3100-t3016879/

Other than odin, I can't think of any other methods of restoring the software. Sorry

Either a partition of emmc got corrupted by physical damage(considering the fact samsung shipped these tabs with a cheap card) or worse you erased nand while flashing firmware through Odin (did you check any box in odin yourself?)
if it's the latter case, heimdall would also not work,
tried with odin 1.85? flashed with pit file, and the four firmware files? that would be your last bet, (search google or my guide in the signature) after that it's up to the service centres.

Help factory reseting my soft bricked Galaxy S7 AT&T

I rooted my S7 AT&T version with Odin a couple of days ago by flashing the developer boot image, but wanted to unroot it because of the phones speed. I've tried pretty much everything, but not much works with the AT&T version of the phone. I've tried to use Kies and Kies 3 but they don't support my phone, nor does Smart Switch. I've also tried some 3rd party apps but none of them seem to work with my phone. I've tried to flash the stock firmware onto my phone using the modified Odin but I keep getting the error Model Dismatch Fail. I do have the pit with it as well. The Secure Boot blocks recovery.img so I can't enter recovery mode to factory restore it that way, also just recently my phone started to boot loop and now I can't start my phone up to the home screen. Does anyone have a fix for the Model Dismatch Fail in Odin or any other way to factory reset my phone? Thanks in advance!

Your device should be supported by Smart Switch.
What do you mean "modified Odin", you're not using a normal version of Odin?

Nvm I downloaded the newest version of Odin and it fixed the Model Dismatch Fail. The video that showed me how to root it said to use the modified version. Thanks for the help, I can't thank you enough!

Bricked Samsung S7

Good day everyone. I am totally new to this and on here but hope is something I came with and will always be a part of my beliefs.. I did flash my Samsung S7 SM-G930F a couple of times with different kind of custom ROMS and I guess I upgraded the bootloader by doing so... So now I was in TWRP mode and without thinking, I started to change the DATA format and immediately switched it off when I realized what exactly I'm doing and now it's stuck. It can switch on only with a charger and by force but I am capable of getting into download mode. I am trying to flash a stock ROM but it keeps on failing cause of the bootloader. When I use the PIT file, it shows successful though. But nothing more happens. Any help would be appreciated. Thank you in advance.

I don't own an S7 so maybe not much help.
From screen shot above try using Odin version 3.13.1 or higher.
Can you post a screen shot of download mode and Odin when it fails
If you can still get into download mode there should be a line saying AP SWREV: B:? K:? S:? or something similar.
The B:? is your bootloader version number. You will need to flash firmware with this number or higher.

Thank you for the response I managed to get it fixed. I used odin 3.14 instead and I wiped it with the NAND option and started from scratch. I used the pit file and flushed the bootloader first with repartition, then did the AP separete, and thats how I went on. After all, I'm back again. Thank you for trying, much appreciated.
