[Q] New ROM boot loop - Verizon Samsung Galaxy S III

So I grabbed my old S3 to give to the wife to help entertain the new baby (ie making vacuum noises to he'll go the F to sleep). If I start to trail off or don't make sense, it's likely because I've got a 1 week old and I sleep in 45 minute intervals. Apologies in advance.
I was trying to move off my old CarbonROM to something a little more user friendly for the wife, and in doing so I've run into a snag. I downloaded the CM 12.1 nightly (already stupid, should have grabbed a stable 10.2), and probably the wrong GApps package (tk_gapps-modular-micro-5.1.1-20150620-signed) instead of the CM GApps. Upon booting, everything looks normal, gets to "Android is starting - optimizing app x of 97," counts up to all the apps, says "starting apps," then "finishing boot," then gives me a few colored lines at the top, reboots and starts the process all over again.
I tried booting to recovery (Volume Up + Home + Power), but no matter when I release the buttons (immediately when the quick Samsung logo comes up, when the CM "Galaxy SIII" logo comes up, or not at all), I can't get it to work. I've downloaded ODIN and tried booting to Download (Volume Down + Home + Power), and I get to the Continue/Cancel screen, but when I hit Volume Up to continue, it just vibrates and shuts off.
I've got a nandroid backup of the CarbonROM state that if I could get into recovery, I could restore. I've got the latest TWRP installed as well that the backup was made with. Just having a hell of a time trying to get back to it.
Thanks for any help and apologies if this is a very obvious fix

CMR false flash

failed to install nv flash, installed CM 7.1 rc and booted through CMR, installed from ex sd, now stuck in bootloop when trying recovery, no CMR loads as I have read. If I allow it to boot naturally first LG boot screen loads then 2nd and freezes. I cannot boot into recovery, s.w upgrade in progress also showing. Please tell me there is a way out of this mess.
Install nv flash recovery. You can try the one click method to install it.
I installed nv flash and I continue having the same problem It installs correctly but my phone is still stuck I hold vol down and power for an extended period first LG screen loads then second with lg screen loading bar, then white box with arrow and android character, If I release the buttons then the phone stops cycling and loads to the cm7.1 rc1 boot image and freezes (LG screen) . If I do this again and release the power while holding vol down I get the SW upgrade screen. Im guessing by loading cm7 without nvflash the first time Im done. Hopefully someone can help!
pull battery out and put back in hold vol down n power, or just flash nvflash again

I don't think you have nvflash done correctly. You should not be seeing the lg loading bar if you are holding vol dwn + power. It should be an Android screen, at least on mine it is.
If you release too quick, you will get the SW Upgrade screen.
Try and re-flash the recovery again via nvflash.
you both were right, the first and second attempt installing NVFlash it stated it was done successfully, didnt pay attention to final message stating it was missing location, I had Nvflash folder doubled up. Reinstalled Im good thanks for reminding me to retry again I was losing my mind.
Thanks again
Awesome, good to hear.

[Q] Can't get into CWM recovery after installing MIUI 1.9.23

This post belongs to http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1278053 but since I don't have enough posts to reply there, here's my issue.
On my Infuse 4G I had Serendipity VII, then flashed over MIUI 1.9.23 which I downloaded from the abovementioned thread. Backed up rom, wiped data and cache, rebooted all good. But when it comes to enter into recovery to flash the MIUI zip again (as per the instructions at the thread above), my phone is stuck at the "Samsung" logo.
Tried battery pull, various hardware button combos, no luck so far. What is the correct hardware button combination to get into CWM from boot? I thought it was volume up + power on, but that didn't work. Tried volume up + home button + power on, no luck either.
So as of now... I'm with a dead Infuse.
Any help would really be appreciated
Thanks!

Same here, I can't even get into the blue CWM recovery. If I don't hold any buttons the phone will go into MIUI like normal but I want to get into recovery to backup and restore.
for me it's even worse... my phone is stuck at the Samsung logo.
Turn off your phone, press and hold down volume up, volume down, and the power button. When you hold them you'll see the Samsung logo, keep holding them. The screen will go black and in like five seconds a SECOND TIME the Samsung logo will appear, you can then let go of the buttons and you should be on cwm

I've tried going into Rom Manager and re-flashing recovery for the "Galaxy S i9000" and it says it's successful but I still can't get into recovery.
So I do have a working MIUI phone but now I seem to be stuck on this ROM

ROM Manager's recovery is worthless...
Use the instructions given above for the three-finger-salute in order to enter kernel recovery.
Entering recovery from boot can be tricky sometimes.
Sounds like Mikey somehow broke the "reboot recovery" command.

Yeah I've 3 fingered about 10 times now, pulled battery, tried rebooting into recovery from MIUI power menu and from RM menu, made sure to wait for the second SAMSUNG to appear, etc but still have not been able to get into CWM recovery. The logo just stays up forever.
Dang I don't really want to Odin back to stock anyone have thoughts as to how I can get this fixed?
Took me awhile to figure it out, I'm on Miui too and recovery works just fine.
This is what you should be doing:
1. Hold all the buttons down. (Volume Up + Down + Power)
2. When you see the Samsung logo, let go of the power and keep holding both volume buttons until you get into CWM.

Yup. Same works for any CWM-enabled kernel back in Samsung-firmware-land.
Ok well I got this fixed ghetto style.
I used SGS kernel flasher to put the Bedwa gingerbread kernel, then after reboot the female robot voice said there was not enough space in the partition.
However, at this point I was [finally] able to 3 finger my way into CWM - the red one, not the blue that MIUI was showing, and from there I could reinstall Infused from the SD card. Still no idea why the MIUI kernel would not let me into recovery!
ok figured to let you guys know how did it go for me after I was able to boot into CWM (thanks again florelui001p for the tip btw) -- was able to flash MIUI and after the reboot things went fine.
Played a bit around with MIUI (first time I was trying an MIUI rom), didn't quite like the complete reskinning of the plain vanilla android UI (don't get me wrong, the quality and amount of the work that must be behind MIUI is impressive, it's just me that I prefer things more "barebone" style).
So after my brief experience with MIUI, I tried to restore a couple of CWM rom backups I took earlier today -- and CWM was unable to restore either one... sweet. So I went for flashing the latest Infused (as of now) 2.3.3 -- and no surprise there. A great rom for the Infuse. So far with the Infuse aside from the stock rom, I've been on Infused, Serendipity VII and MIUI. Still hoping/waiting for CM7... used to love it on my old Nexus One.

i've tried all the things u said but no success. then i've tried to enter download mode and after going to recovery with vol up + home + phone worked
Three finger does still work in MIUI/CM7, but it seems REALLY finicky for some reason.

I've never had a problem. Here's a trick I use to get into recovery "100% of the time, every time":
Make sure your phone is unplugged from any charger/USB. Remove, and replace your battery. Place your phone on it's side, volume buttons down, on a desk/table. Press down until you feel the volume buttons depressed, and keep holding the phone with pressure. Press and hold the power until you see the Samsung logo, keeping your phone mashed against the table. When you see CWM, you can release the pressure on your phone, reconnect to cables, do whatever.
After flashing 1.9.30, I cannot access clockwork recovery from ANY method, 3 finger salute won't work, trying from MIUI won't work, reflashing clockwork from ROM manager won't work.
What am I suppose to do?
Have you tried the steps below?

The caveat is to wait for the second time the Samsung logo appears, and then release all buttons.

this worked for me.

Okay so if you were one of the few people who lost recovery for some weird reason "ME" no need to unbrick to stock and re-flash I have a solution.
1: Download sgs kernel flasher
2: Download CWM community kernel
3: Flash kernel via sgs kernel flasher "unchecked the reboot button" when done flashing turn phone of "SHUTDOWN"
4: 3 finger until the Samsung logo pops up keep holding the buttons the screen will go black then Samsung logo will come up, let go of the power button and keep hold the volume up and down buttons "For about 20 seconds" then let go it should boot into Red CWM after a few seconds.
5: Go to install zip from SD card go all the way down and run update.zip it will boot back into RED CWM run update.zip again and it should now boot into GREEN CWM
6: From here Re-Flash MIUI "New Release would be smart", Wipe Fact,Wipe Cache, Wipe Dalvik, Flash, reboot at sign of Samsung logo pull battery, 3 finger into blue recovery and flash again.
7: Presto you should be set and have recovery back.

CWM will not load

Hello All,
I can't get the clockwork recovery to work, no matter how many times I flash it. Just for some background information:
In my house I currently have 2 rooted samsung devices (S3s), and have 2 other HTCs I've rooted and installed both clockwork and custom ROMS. I'm very familiar with the process and have yet to brick a device. The specifics for this tablet are as follows:
Model GT-P3113
Kernel 3.0.8-999349
[email protected] #1
SMP-PREEMPT Thu Aug 23 23:43:39
KST 2012
Odin gives the recovery flash a "Pass" and regardless of whether I reboot the whole way before going back into recovery, or just force it from one recovery into another (holding down and power until it restarts right back to recovery), I never get CWM. It is always stock.
Anyone else seen this?
Thanks,
CS
Errrrr.....
Hold down POWER + VOLUME UP (Button next to the power )
Try that :silly:

I have - Power + Up button does not enter recovery at all.... Holding onto it will just make your tablet begin to load, then power off, then begin to load, etc. Same as if you hold the power button non-stop. The only one that gets me into any recovery is Power + Down.
What version of CWM / ODIN are you using ?
I use ODIN ~ 1,85 and CWM ~ P3113 - 6.0.1.0

I was using what you had, near as i can tell by the name, but I went ahead and tried it again. Twice more. Same problem. Then, because I couldn't understand how someone who had done it twice could be wrong, I tried several times to get the "Up" and power button combo to work. All I continued to get was a shut down, restart cycle. Out of frustration, I put the tablet down to let it load back into the OS. Then magical goodness happened - Instead of continuing on or shutting off, it went into a different loader screen.
I thought i was good to go - but not quite.
At least now I got errors I had seen with other people - Signature verification failed. Somewhere a helpful peep had posted a picture of what it should look like and I realized I was still not using the CWM loader - just a different base Android one.
So, I started the process yet again - and this time, after a few attempts, I was able to go from the download stock mode to the CWM temporary manual mode. Using the Fix CWM zip, followed by the root kit, I got it to actually stick!
So, in short - you were right and I was wrong. Only one minor addition to the instructions I'd give to those out there fighting this: Make sure you let go of the buttons (Up and Power) as soon as you see Galaxy text show. If you don't, it shuts you off before getting to manual mode. If you time it wrong, it goes into the OS or shuts down. Get it right (about a second after I saw the text), you get into the loader you are looking for and everything then is easy.
Thanks much!!!

[Q] Help with Phone Stuck Booting

I'm usually pretty good at following instructions but I have a problem. I am rooted with TWRP, stock kernel. I successfully applied the 4.4.1 update and used the phone for awhile no probs. Tried re-applying the 4 way reboot menu mod that I'd used successfully on 4.4.0. TWRP says flash was successful. I rebooted and am stuck at the spinning google colored circles. I cant get into recovery mode by holding the volume up/down and power buttons. The phone vibrates briefly when I hold all three but the logo keeps spinning. Pressing power button only does the same. Tried connecting to PC but mac says can't read device and to reboot it. ?help?
Update - Got her to reboot with volume down/pwer, into TWRP, and restored from backup, Back up and running...

[RESOLVED] TWRP stuck on Downloading do not turn off target - Reboot does not work

Edit: Resolved
I flashed a nightly release of LineageOS and it's working like before!
Software
TWRP 3.1
LineageOS 14.1
Magisk 18.1
Magisk Manager 7.0
Rooted (unsure)
Background
Google Pay recently declined contactless, so I tried re-enabling it with Magisk and changing device fingerprint, to no avail. I rebooted into recovery to install Magisk Canary, by running the magisk-uninstaller.zip. As soon as I swiped right to run it, it rebooted into the turquoise "Downloading... do not turn off target" screen (with no text in the corner). Every attempt to boot into system yielded this.
Troubleshooting Attempts
Holding volume down + power, reboots to Samsung S7 screen then quickly back to the same "Downloading..." screen
Holding volume down + power, then as soon as screen flashes black quickly holding volume up + power goes into TWRP
Cleared cache in TWRP and tried rebooting, same results
Other Information
I can still enter TWRP and see my files via USB on my computer
Even after phone is powered off and I recharge it, the screen goes back to the turquoise "Downloading..." screen. Powering on is the same..
Questions
Does anyone have suggestions as to what I can try next? Or should I create a backup while I can, then reinstall TWRP or another ROM?
Thanks!

If the rom zip is on your sd card and you can boot into TWRP, you can flash the rom again, do not wipe anything! and all your apps files etc should be still there when the phone reboots. It's the same process as updating lineage over the existing build.
