Hello everyone,
I was on Lollipop 5.1.1 Stock and not rooted then i decided to give rooting a shot. I downloaded Cataclysm and flashed successfully. everything was fine then i discovered that there is no Cellular Data connection. Rebooted and tried all possible things but didn't work. Finally gave up and flash Cyanogenmod 12. worked perfectly, nothing was wrong and cellular data was fine. After a while i wanted to come back to the clean stock lollipop so i downloaded and flashed Factory Image of Lollipop 5.1.1. Weirdly the Cellular Data doesn't work, i have no idea why or what may cause the problem. Please note that my Nexus 5 is from Amazon Germany. I doubt that there might be something wrong with the radio image ( meant for US models ?!! ) but i don't know really or have no clue what might be causing this !!!!
Any help is appreciated. Thanks in advance
FIXED
After spending 7 hours moving between different ROMs, i found out what was causing the problem of cellular data. The problem also exists after flashing stock image and Cataclysm. I noticed that on CM12 there was one option in the APN settings that was different from stock and Cataclysm. The MVNO type was set to None however in stock and Cataclysm it was IMSI. I don't know how or why would android change or decide that on its own and i also have no idea what does this option do. I guess that this may help many people who are suffering from the same issue ( also people who updated stock ran into same problem )
Don't know where you are but, every time that has happened to me a hands free activation fixed it.

Hello, this is my first time posting on the forums here.
Recently I flashed the latest version of MIUI on my Verizon Galaxy s3. I decided that I preferred my previous rom; Jelly Bean's Build 10, and I restored it to my phone. After restoring the rom, I got a message saying that I was roaming, even though I am still in the same area where service has been working flawlessly. The first thing I tried to do was change the network type under network settings to LTE/CDMA but that choice was already selected. Thinking that I had no other options, I restored the stock rom that I had backed up on my device and I got the same issue. Thinking I could just send the phone back to Verizon, I unrooted the phone using the built in unroot tool in SuperSu Pro. I am now unrooted, but forgot to reflash the stock recovery (I am still using TWRP). I am just wondering what I should do about the issue, and if I were to send it back to verizon, would they be able to tell that I have a custom recovery. Sorry for being a noob and any help would be much appreciated.
Update: I rolled back to my rooted stock ROM and I used triangle away to reset the custom flash counter. I have also reflashed the stock recovery onto my device. Even though my phone appears to be unmodified I still have the same issue.

there are SOOO many threads about how to fix the roaming issue it's not even funny....
^^^^^what he said!
This happened to me and what I had to do was ODIN to stock ICS rom and enter the code to reprovision sim. Google/forum search is your friend.
This is why Verizon locks down their phones! People who are not willing to search for a way to fix something that they screwed up is unacceptable. The bad thing is this phone is completely fixable with very little effort! Some people should not be allowed to flash anything!
I've dealing with so many issues ever since the DroidX so if there is one thing I've learned is there is ALWAYS a fix you may just need to do a little search if you can't find the resources your looking for on any of forums a simple google search will help you out.
Kind of long, but it's just a difficult explanation, please read and try to help me. Thank you.
Okay, so I have a really weird problem, and I can't seem to fix it at all. I unlocked the bootloader and rooted my Sprint Motorola Photon Q, and had no problem with data loss, then I flashed PAC Man Rom, and everything went fine and it flashed but then I noticed that I had no data. No 3G, 4G, or 4G LTE, the phone lost network signal, but what was weird is that I could still receive texts and phone calls.
So, then I read that wiping the Dalvik and the regular cache would fix it, and it didn't. Then, I also tried flashing a different ROM which also didn't fix it. I RSD back to stock firmware and the problem was gone. I even tried rerooting and just installing a different ROM but, it still had the same issue, so I just went back to stock again.
Can someone please help me fix this? I've looked everywhere and I can't really find anything to help me out with this.
Thank you in advance.
Is your provider Sprint as well...?
I'm not sure, data works here on custom ROM's... which version are you flashing? Have you tried CM11?
There's some new device unification going on, the newest KK builds are going to be under the "moto_msm8960" device instead of xt897...
No I haven't tried CM11. Where do I find the IMG for it at?
I have Flash Wireless, which is Sprint prepaid. I have tried CM11 and still nothing. I don't understand what is going on....I'm getting real frustrated because I want to put a good custom ROM on my phone....

Perhaps that's the issue. Did you check your APN settings? Is it using Sprint's network?
I have a Nexus 5, rooted, unloced. A couple of months ago, I started having data issues on CyanogenMod 12.1. Could not change APNs, couldn't really do ANYTHING about it. Tried modifying telephony.db files to no avail. Tried deleting them and letting new ones generate (they generated but it didn't help). Tried copying the telephony files from a working nexus 5 over and it worked for 5 minutes.
Eventually I flashed CleanCore and CleanCore 's radio. That worked BEAUTIFULLY and I had no Data issues for a long time. Well the other day, I went back to stock, upgraded to the most recent Nexus 5 Build and now no matter what I do, I can't get it to work. Tried reflashing CleanCore (nada) CyanogenMod 12.1 (nada) CyangenMod 11 (Nada) I am barred access to APN settings on ALL roms I flashed and NO changes I make stick.
I have a Nexus 5 that is no good to me unless I have Wifi. and Even then, what good is that?
Please help.

Hello, and thank you for using XDA Assist!
Seems like the CleanCore radio is stuck. Please go ahead and create an XDA account, so you can post in the rest of the site. From there, pose the same situation in the [HELP THREAD] Nexus 5 | Ask any question thread (or at least) in the > Google Nexus 5 > Nexus 5 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting forum. Your device experts can be found there.
Hope this helps, and good luck!
Is that likely? Ive done several reflashes, factory resets, flashed new radios.

Hello again,
If you couldn't make calls either, I would say your IMEI got borked. Although, doesn't hurt to check those numbers (dial *#06#) against the box the phone came in to confirm the numbers didn't change on you. A custom radio used for a ROM other than that ROM? Likely. But when matched with that ROM? Sort of falls through.
Or it could be data in another partition that is causing conflicting info, that isn't getting reset after any of the flashes. I have a phone that if you do not back up the Config partition between flashing ROM's, you lose all data access. So maybe something is sticking around that shouldn't be from the custom ROM's.
I would suggest asking around on the Nexus 5 forums (as I don not know much about this device), they should give some ideas.
Hope this helps.
My girlfriend's AT&T S4 loses connection, but still shows it connected. So you never know you don't have a connection until you reboot the phone and find that you have missed 2 phone calls, 3 emails, and 15 texts. This happened with the stock Rom. I've tried a couple of different roms, but still the same outcome. I'm thinking I should have to switch to a different modem, but I'm not sure which one to use. Am I wrong and is there another solution? I'm looking for something that will work so I don't have to mess with it again. If anyone has experienced this connection loss and found a solution, please let me know what to do to fix this phone.
definitively you need to update the modem.
2 ways to achieve the update: either by a new rom firmware (http://live.samsung-updates.com/?device=GT-I9505), either by just update gsm modem/wifi fix (http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=50965837&postcount=2627)
But I strongly suggest before, to look at what your device model is. Mine is S4 LTE international = GT-i9505.
Don't know yours.
Hope that helps.
Ahh... a response. Thank you
So if I change the Rom, that will change the modem too? I thought the modem stayed with the phone and you had to change that separately. This can get so confusing at times. But this is good news never the less. The model number of the phone is GT-i9505G running a custom Rom ( Super-Nexus ) 4.4.4, baseband version 1337UCUFNB1, Kernel version 3.4.0-1125940 [email protected] #1
I hope this information helps you understand what I have so you can find a solution. Thank you for all your help
You're right. changing the rom doesn't update your modem unless you flash a stock firmware via odin. But read carefully as samsung at&t version is specific (meaning specific firmware).
You will find bunch of files by looking at "modem galaxy s4 i337" on xda thread. Depend on what you will find, either only modem/wifi fix either the full stock firmware, you need to update via Odin.
also a good start is to take a look at xda thread > http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2616221
And it seems that AT&T already realease some new stock firmware > http://www.att.com/esupport/softwareUpdateArticle.jsp?sid=KB419415&cv=820&partner=LinkShare&siteId=TnL5HPStwNw-V7YmgDyzwWW7TSi7CwkqtA
I tried a Note 4 Rom first
I have a Note 3, I've had a Note 2 (I loved the macro setting and wished they'd kept it for the Note 3), so I thought I would try the Note 4 Rom on my girlfriend's problematic S4. It got stuck in a boot loop. I ended up using the link you gave me for the stock (but upgraded) AT&T Rom. I see it brought the phone from NB1 to NJ4 firmware. I'm hoping this improvement will solve the problem of a connection loss bring that is a factory firmware upgrade. She can also get OTA updates again. Thank you for your help. Now it's time to find a different Rom for my Nvidia Tegra Note 7. This thing is terribly slow after the upgrade to Lollipop!
Note 4 has a complete different hardware from S4. That's why you had boot loop.
Don't forget to change the subject by [SOLVED] if applied
I have no service and no cellular network problem on my N5, running dark rom 7.1.2 aosp, with franco kernel ( never had issues before ), newest radio and bootloader. This started happening when i got my new sim card from my provider and i got 4g signal in my area for the first time. I tried manually selecting radio by going in the hidden menu by entering *#*#4636#*#* and i got lte and full bars signal after selecting band 8 ( 1800 hz ) but only for a minute then it went back to empty triangle. Tried selecting 3g only in preffered network, tried manually selecting provider, tried toggling airplane mode on/off a bunch of times nothing works. Any suggestion would be highly appreciated, i love my N5 very much and i would hate to throw it in a drawer somewhere. Thanks in advance
Flash back to a stock ROM and test it worth your new new.
Does the sim work in another phone?

Were you ever able to get this rectified? I have recently been having this problem as well. I have flashed back to ROMs I was previously using and flashed back to stock to no avail. My SIM card works in other devices as well. I really do not want to have to drop on a new phone, but I have tried every solution I have found online to no avail. I think it's fair to say that I am desperate right now.
edit: I found another thread on XDA that I'm looking into, I'll edit again if it works. I'm unsure how it took me so long to find that thread.
edit2: https://forum.xda-developers.com/go...getting-cdma-networks-to-nougat-roms-t3534679 is the thread that I found useful; I am now running Pure Nexus 7.1.2 with a full connection. Specifically, his second comment about installing 6.0.1 stock, backing up the efs, flashing the desired ROM, then restoring the efs is what ended up fixing it for me.

This morning it's not sticking with Pure Nexus, so I'll be trying DarkRom. I really don't want to use a CAF if I can avoid it, but it may become a necessity. Do people on T-Mobile have this problem?

So I've hit a point where I have 3G and nothing else. I can't yet get LTE to work. I'm using LineageOS CAF. How about yourself?

No luck with aosp by santosh m and pure nexus 7.1.2 , can't even get it to connect. I guess my last hope is caf based i will try lineageos caf. All i need is the efs backup from stock? If i can get it to work with 3g i will be satisfied because i did some digging and found out that my network provider which is Vip MK has no lte support for nexus 5 d820 ( my model ) only 3g, but i can't even connect with 3g selected. I guess because this one is for US frequencies it will not work whatever i try but i will give lineageos caf a chance.

I was able to get 3G only to work on my Nexus 5 by reflashing the EFS from 6.0.1; I'm trying right now to see if I can install PureNexus 6.0.1 then dirty flash to PureNexus 7.1.2 with any success. Also, I might just switch to T-Mobile, but I have to wait until later this week for that.
Hi,
LTE band 8 is not in 1800 MHz but first of all you can check your N5 model - US model is D820 and is not supported for LTE on 1800 MHz (band 3). For 1800 Mhz band you need D821 model.

To clarify that:
You had the problem with not recognizing the sim or having no service at all. And you solved this by flashing the sstock 6.0.1 backing up the efs, flashing to Pure Nexus 7.1.2 and restoring the efs immediatley after flashing the rom (+kernel+root+etc)?
This solves this mysterious no sim/no service bug, which many (?) N5 owners experience? If this is true, I'd be really happy

It didn't stick. After I lost it I was unable to get it back. I gave up and switched to T-Mobile, where it is no longer a problem. Apologies for not having more testing information. I was able to get solely 3G on multiple instances, but getting the elusive 4G was beyond me.
I've had this problem before in two nexus, one of them running latest stock and the other a customized ROM. I tried to flash a stock ROM image in both of them with no luck. I was pretty sure that the image I was flashing was the latest, so the radio & bootloader should be flashed to the latest versions. But it didn't worked.
Finally I found on a XDA thread where someone was posting only the latest bootloader & radio to flash. I did it with NRT (in Advanced Utilities) and it worked:

I can't remember or find the thread, so I post the images here:

- Radio-hammerhead-m8974a-2.0.50.2.30.img
I think I had to flash them twice because the first time it wasn't right, but there were 4 months since then and still no failure

Thanks for your input. I'll check that when I have some time. This is really weird as it looks like a hardware problem but if you can fix it with this method it's clearly a software issue...
best regards
