I've had a Galaxy s6 since the day it came out. I've had conversations with several people using the DEFAULT MESSAGING APP and every one of them communicates using the typical SMS messages. I also have a few friends who also have an s6 and my conversations between them are the same.
But one conversation that I have with one of my friends communicates using CHAT. It tells me when my message was delivered and when it was read. It sends large files without any compressing. I can't seem to get any other conversations in this app to do the same. And we can't find any information on how our conversation got like this. Can anyone provide me with some information on this?
Do you use Hangouts??

WOW! As soon as i give up and post a question, I find an answer. It's ENHANCED MESSAGING. And it only works between Galaxy s6 series phones. Allows you to send a multimedia message with pictures, voice recordings, audio or video files, contact cards (vCard), appointments (vCalendar), as well as large files (up to 1 GB).
I guess both phones need to have it enabled. And my other friends with an s6 havent enabled it yet. I'll be able to confirm this in the morning. But that's what it looks like.
And how to enable it?

Before this tablet was released and the rumors were flying about specs and features, I thought I read somewhere that we would possibly be able to "tether" in a way from our phone and be able to send texts from our tablet using our cell phone's number basically. Does anyone else remember hearing this rumor too and better yet, is this feature available and anyone know how to enable it?
Try MigtyText if your phone is android. Works for me

Yes it possible, I've been using Google voice free from the play store, just set up Google voice which will give u a gvoice phone number and you should be able to make calls and send text messages over any wifi. The only down side is that you can't receive calls so if somebody calls they will be asked to leave a voice mail and you will receive a email with the voice mail to download and listen to.. In my opinion its awesome cause its free and it works

You install the app on your phone, not the Note
Then you send texts from the web page on the Note

Tablet Talk Paid app, syncs to your phone via wifi or bluetooth. Text directly from your Galaxy Note.
MySMS (Tablet) Syncs between the mysms app on your phone. Allows for SMS and MMS to be sent from your tablet or desktop, all free.
TabletSMS Same as mySMS, text from the tablet directly, desktop, or phone. Be warned that this is $5/year.

I always had to have it open to receive texts. If I closed it and forgot I would find texts days, weeks, or months later. Nice idea, poor implementation. Needs to work like regular text apps. If I close them I still get notifications.

So many of the products Google puts out like Voice seem very half-assed to me. For instance voice mail transcription in Google Voice is so pathetically bad its funny. I get a voicemail from my mom asking me to get her a salad for lunch and the transcription is something like:
"Hi, mom on mars. Pick up syringes for grunge."

Just purchased this one and it is amazing! Sms's are sent instantly via Bluetooth or Wi-Fi depending on your choice of how you connect your tablet to the phone using the app.
The best thing is, if you use a Bluetooth headset and it is paired with your phone, this app allows you to call and reject phone calls from the tablet. The phone can be left in your pocket as the app also has caller id. The calls are handled by your phone and controlled by this app. Also those who wish to use the new Bluetooth pen for calling can use it too via this app.
Who needs 3g anymore? Not me, that's for sure, I have saved myself £100.

Huh?
I just went to the Play Store on my PC and it basically says the "Tablet Talk" is pretty much compatible with every phone ever made EXCEPT the Epic 4G Touch. WTH? Why not? Tried emailing the developer but their email link is broken.
Not happy.
---------- Post added at 09:09 AM ---------- Previous post was at 08:29 AM ----------
Ok, their customer service emailed me the .apk. I installed it on my phone. Made my phone and tablet discoverable to each other and paired.
Tablet Talk cannot connect to phone bluetooth.
I noticed when setting things up they ask for a password, but at no point in the connection process is the password requested. Makes me think I am missing a step in here somewhere?
I'm using Tablet Talk on my Epic 4g Touch through my Galaxy Note 10.1 & Nexus 7 tablets via WiFi....
I just wish it had the ability to do MMS, the only shortcoming. Other then that its a great program.
Yes I was finally able to connect via wifi. Bluetooth would not work.

That is strange because I was not asked at any point to put in a password. Maybe it is the phone model causing the issue.
The developer has an active forum where you can ask the questions as to why you are having issues, link below:

Hi
I'm looking for a cross platform messaging app with strong group messaging capabilities for more than 100 people. One that is able to send files and not only photos.
Also it must be simple to use.
Do you know of any?

Go SMS Pro..
Now that Hangouts is the default SMS app, none of the SMS blocker apps seem to work on blocking texts. I've tried Mr. Number, which shows it blocked certain texts, but the texts still come in through Hangouts.
Anyone know of a good app or workaround?
Thanks!
You can change default sms handler in settings.
2 ways to get to it
In hangout, click menu, setting, default sms app
Or general settings, under wireless and networks click more, default sms app.

The SMS integration is hangouts seems to be running at the top priority.
I wrote an app for myself that blocked SMSs with certain keyboards. This worked fine with the standard Android messaging app, but Hangouts gets the message, anyway.
My own app runs at a priority of 999 (the docs say the priority must be more than -1000 and less than 1000), so I'm as high as I can go.
I'm guessing that Hangouts is running at 999 as well.
Just a hunch, I can't prove it without seeing the hangouts manifest.

Sorry, but your hunch is not correct...
Sadly, Google has changed the SMS API in 4.4, so only one app can receive and write the SMS to the provider... Meaning there is no way to block SMS anymore from appearing in the default SMS app....

Doesn't Hangouts work on both WiFi and mobile internet?
Hangouts is similar to I Message... If their name doesn't have a SMS then you are in a hangout. However I do have a question about hangouts. How do you attach videos? When I touch the camera the only options are take photo and attach photo. I have a hang out between my self my sister and my mother and we can't figure out how to share videos. And I'm not talking about video conferencing.

Hi,
Try TextSecure
I want to hide the recent call and message history of the caller shown while receiving a call. Attached herewith, the snapshot of the problem i'm referring to.
Kindly let me know where to find the option to disable this feature.
I have Galaxy S7 (SM-G930FD).
Thanks,

Has anyone tried disabling this feature? Or can't it be disabled?
I remember having to give my dialer permission to access the history.... You can try deleting the last message using your texting app, and then deleting recent calls on the log screen

Go to application manager, and at the top select More and then the reset option.
Your permissions will be reset for all apps, including dialer.. Then if the dialer asks for sms access, deny.
