[Q] Oneplus one not working - ONE Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

I updated my Oneplus One manually to the newest Version of CM12s. While flashing it, my Recovery (TWRP) chrashed. So to be sure I installed my freshly performed Nandroid Backup. But nothing helped. I couldnt connect with the Wifi, no SIM Cards were found, no Bluetooth Connectivity and it had Random Reboots. So i decided to flash back to Stock CM11s (the first ever released). But the Problems were the same afterwards. I flashed the Stock image via ADB and, after I found out nothing changed, via the Oneplus One Toolkit, but the Problems were still there. I also made a video on Youtube to show what happens and i hope that i can repair it and must not send it back to repair, because a repair would cost me up to 300€. So pls tell me a way to fix this Problem, because I really like this Phone:crying::crying::crying:

Ok found your vid, I see you have flashed the stock image files via ADB, have you done a full factory reset (wiping data) from the phone/TWRP? Its a bit worrying that flashing the stock image files didnt sort the issue. As it seems to be WiFi on/off that causes the reboot it would make me think it was to modem/radio but this should have been written again when you flashed the stock images.
@AxelWexel can you check in your Settings>About phone menu if your IMEI number is showing? Just in case your EFS has become corrupted. It definitely sounds fixable as if something has corrupted and needs wiped fresh.

Thx for the Links and i tried to watch on my phone and there is no imei number. I also did a full wipe after i found the issues. I also tried it via the Toolbox to flash the stock rom back but it hadnt change anything. But I will look the links you postet and reply if anything has changed. But now thx again:good:
P.S: I renamed the Video to "Oneplus One not working (23.06.2015)" to find it more easily
Edit 1: The Second Link with fixing corrupt partitions via adb wont work for me because i dont have root but my bootloader is unlocked. so i cant find the root acsess for adb in the developer options
Edit 2: I installed color os like the link said, done everything it said, but still no wifi, bluetooth and no sim card detection:crying:. Luckily the random reboot stopped Could you again help me further more because it seemed to help
Edit 3: I went back to cm11s, because in color os when i turned the phone off it turned on again, the connectivity was not there. After the install it became worse with the random reboots. I think i must send it to repair and pay 300€:crying::crying::crying::crying:

[Q] after installing 4.4.1 - no cellular + data - SOLVED

SOLVED! see solution in the first comment.
I really need some help...
I installed manually 4.4.1 version using this guide: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2523217
(I am having a rooted device with TWRP without any modifications or deletions - used section B)
after the install successfully worked, i chosed to wipe. it was stuck and i used the powerbutton to reload device.
when the device turned on it used emulated storage which means no imei and no efs.
using the twrp (in recovery mode) i can see my full data and efs files.
when i am trying to rewipeqinstall update i get this error: "E:/Unable to mount /cache"
please help me.

Do not turn the device off while clearing the cache.
Reboot to recovery, go to TWRP settings and enable rm -rf option, go back and wipe the cache/dalvik. If THAT doesn't work, you will need to flash the cache.img from the factory image found here http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2513701
After you do that, make sure you have the latest version of TWRP installed (2.6.3.4) If you don't you can also choose to install that via ADB before clearing the cache.

First of all - thanks for help.
already tried the rm -rf option unsuccessful.
2 question before I'm starting the flash process:
1. Is there a way dumping the efs folder to my computer before?
2. is this the command i should use: "fastboot flash cache C:/image-hammerhead-krt16m/cache.img"?
thanks a lot.

1. Use TWRP to back up your EFS data if you would like. You won't lose any data by just flashing the cache though. All your apps and everything should still be there.
2. If you installed the drivers correctly and that is the correct directory for the file on your computer, that is right! I put mine on the desktop for simplicity.
clearing cache/dalvik is very slow on N5, I found, and so is resetting the phone in recovery. though the progress bar may not move the process isn't stuck, it's still going on in background.

yeah i have a rma out for mine. Luckly i have a spare phone (its a damn $15 go phone) but mine is already shipped. biggest issue is the $440 is tied up in my account until they get the bad phone back. basically i would suggest to anyone that if they are going to flash a rom first thing they should do is back up their efs to their pc and also some sort of could (dropbox, drive, mega, box, etc).

Need Help

I had just downloaded the latest firmware to upgrade to lolipop, I did a titanium backup, then a nandroid with TWRP.
Upon reboot I can only get to the default recover screen (The one with the android on the skateboard). I can boot into TWRP and have tried clearing cache and delvik cache, and now doing a factory reset but I'm still having the problem. sometimes when rebooting from TWRP the phone boots to the lock screen (or to setup screen after factory reset), then a few seconds later reboots back to the screen with the android on the skateboard.
I haven't even started installing the new firmware, all I did was backup with TWRP and it seems to have semi bricked the phone.
I also tried restoring the backup and I get an error "E:\ No Partition selected for restore."

You flashed twrp either by twrp manager or allowed flashify to download the image for you. Try flashing the firmware zip I posted in tigerstowns thread that has twrp in it. If that doesn't work you will need to ruu and then install twrp and restore. Do not use twrp manager.

I beleive I flashed twrp origionally from fastboot, that was months ago though when we got the 4.4.4 update.
Do you mean I need to flash that zip from fastboot?
I'm worried about trying to flash firmware with the phone in a strange state. I'm almost thinking that something went bad inside the phone, but not convinced yet. It has been doing strange things lately, constant searching for location, pausing itself durring playback of music, and some random restarts. I haven't been messing it it so it seems strange to all of a sudden have these issues after many months.

Nah man. Just reflash the firmware zip that contains twrp and report back. The older twrp are not safe to use on the newer firmware. I have a pda thread stickied in the general section that explains. Phone is likely fine.

Ok, yea, I flashed the new firmware (with twrp) using fastboot , I'm still stuck on the same screen though. I did not install lolipop because I need to get the phone to USB mode to copy it over, which I cannot do because it will not start up.

I don't know, I made a nandroid to my external memory card and immediately after that I was no longer able to start up... I tried to restore the nandroid and I cannot. So I would say no I am probably not backed up. I do still have RDKN rom on the memory card for 4.4.3, should I try to re-install that?
TWRP is now version 2.8.5.0, so apparently it updated correctly (I think before it was 2.8.1)

No. Your best bet to get your stuff back would be to downgrade firmware back to 4.4.4 and reflash the latest twrp img only and then restore your nand.

Ok my internet is not working on my laptop at work (only of the PC I'm on and no way to transfer files without my phone), so I guess I will try to do this when I get home. At this point I don't even care about my data, I wanted to save my text conversations but other than that everything I need should be saved in my titanium backup.

And that's what I figured. So flash 4.4.4. Flash latest twrp. Restore nand from ext sd. Boot up. Install this app.
https://www.androidfilehost.com/?fid=95916177934537937
Run it and link to your Google account and make it perform a backup.
It will do your apps/email accounts/texts/even home screen layout. And it will do it once a day for you automatically or on demand whenever.
Once you get a good backup on this app you can simply flash the new ruu and use this app to restore.

Update, restarted the computer and I was able to restore the old firmware. I re-installed the old rom afterwards (not my nandroid) and I am unable to get into the OS. Well technically I get prompted to select a language, after which the phone reboots back to the S-off androids with skateboards bootloader. Does this mean my phone is toast?
Hey guys, should I S-on the phone load the stock bootloader and try to return it? It is over a year old so I think I will need to use my insurance ($100). What is the best way to go about doing this?
Also when I get my replacement phone will there still be a way to S-off?
Thanks,
- Jusitn
The problem appears to be something wrong with my micro SD card! I removed the micro SD card and I can boot up fine. I guess I need to find another way to copy the rom to the micro SD install the rom then remove the micro SD card.
edit:
Oh this is worse than paying $100 for a new phone. It appears that creating a backup instead of creating a backup, actually corrupted my memory card. Now all the photos are backed up to the cloud but it will take me hours and hours to get all my apps back to the way they were. Some Security camera settings, Rifle target hand load development all gone. Audio book place holders, all notes taken etc. Nothing life or death but those security cameras will take me forever to figure out. I know I know, why not create a backup right? Well that's what I was trying to do!
So I was able to get back some data using some recovery software, unfortunately I was not able to retrieve the nandroid or the titanium backup files. Pictures were backed up to the could and music licenses and other hting I can add back on from the PC. Very time consuming though.
Anyways, what should I do now? Should I just reformat the SD card and continue to use it or should I assume that this happened because the card is bad and replace it with something else?

I don't know what file system you're using but assuming it's one that windows can read, connect it to a PC and run chkdsk on it. If you don't know how to do that from a command prompt, right click on the drive in windows explorer and choose properties. Then tools and then click on the check now button under Error-checking. A small window will open. A line that says automatically fix file system errors will be checked by default. In your case, I'd suggest also checking the line that says "scan for and attempt recovery of bad sectors". It'll take a while for it to complete with that line checked so be patient. If you're lucky, it might just fix your problem. No promises but it's worth a try.
When it's done you can look in your event viewer to see what it found, if anything. If it finds bad sectors, I wouldn't trust the card. It can be used but there's no guarantee that more problems won't pop up. Maybe, maybe not.
To get to your event viewer, in Win 7 (not sure about Windows 8) click start and in the search box type event.vwr. I'm not sure what category you have to look under in there but perhaps under Winlogon. That's where you'll find it if it requires a reboot to check the card but that's not likely so I'm not sure.

exFat for the card, and yes I am on windows 7. I tried to run a check as it was detected as having problems when I plugged the card into my laptop. Then it said I needed to dismount the drive and I said ok. Then it would just hang up. I reformatted the card and then ran the checkdisk again and it tells me that there are no problems now. I guess the card is ok and the issue was caused by TWRP? Not very cool when creating a back delete all your titanium backups and your nandroid that you were trying to create. Unfortunately I have to start from scratch on everything now. I even tried restoring to an older nandroid from May that was saved on my computer but that failed as well. for different reasons.

What reason did the restore fail for? And don't ever s-on unless you have let me have a crack at a phone. Not one thing you have said so far makes me think its phone. Unfortunately I have ended up with corrupt exfat discs before too. Sucks.

I don't remember, probably missing a file or something.

No mobile data after flash. Nothing will bring it back

>> Partial solution was found; still looking for the root of the problem. <<
I recently decided to take the plunge and root my OnePlus One and install sultanXDA's CM 13 ROM on it. It was all going well until I booted up into the ROM and discovered that I couldn't get any mobile data. Everything else was working, calling, texting, wifi, but mobile data seemed to refuse to work. Since I initially flashed sultan's ROM with TWRP 3.0.0, I suspected it was a problem with my modem. Though unable to install TWRP 2.8.6.0 to re-flash everything, I did still flash a new modem via ADB. This didn't help.
I have tried many things to fix this. I rebooted/reflashed. I flashed different ROMs. I tried flashing on TWRP 2.8.6.1, though I believe that one has the same modem problem as the versions after it. As mentioned above I tried flashing a modem over ADB. I took out and re inserted my SIM card. In the end, I tried this guide here to restore my phone to it's original state. The guide flashes the stock versions of everything via ADB. Though it did return me to unrooted COS 12.1, it was not able to resolve my data problem.
After the total reset, all I can think that could be causing it is a hardware problem or that it is caused by something not reset in the 100% restore above.
If any of y'all can help my solve this, or at least offer insight, I would be very grateful.
Preemptive Edit I Guess: This thread was just suggested to me while writing this. I'm going to try the solution here and report back. It's OnePlus' reset to stock method. I'm not expecting much after my first 100% reset attempt, but we'll see.
EDIT: Ok, so the solution above fixed my problem... (edit again: turned out to only be a partial solution. See below.)
I would feel really dumb right now if it weren't for the fact that I slaved over this problem for a good ~8 hours before writing this post. Anyways, I'm not sure how to delete this post or mark it as solved. Sorry for the trouble y'all.
Never delete this post !!
I have the same problem, and I spent much more time to find a solution.
I will try this and will update.
Is it a clean stock rom?
Edit:
Didn't help for me ..
Still the same problem, No mobile internet connection.
Thx anyway.
Yeah, actually I was too hasty is identifying this as the solution. For me, the stock reset brought me back to CM 11 which didn't have a problem with mobile data. But if I try to flash a later ROM or update via OTA, the problem returns. I'm still trying to figure out what is causing it. The only information I can find points to it being a modem problem or APN problem, but I'm sure I have sufficiently checked both of those already.
Either way, I'll keep looking. If I find something I'll return here with it. Good luck

4) Download the latest ROM of your choice and install via your recovery

I gave this a try, but booting up after step 3 I still had the same problem. If I understand this method correctly, I think it is essentially the same as the other full restore methods I tried.
I think I may have found the problem though. I was looking at OnePlus' guide to installing OxygenOS. In it they said, "do not try to flash this build through TWRP. You will most likely lose your radio and IMEI which means a trip to our customer support." At this point I have repeatedly reset/restored my modem/radio so I don't think that is the problem, but I haven't seen anything about IMEI before. The IMEI is apparently stored in the EFS partition which as far as I can tell, is not touched by any of the restore methods I have tried. I took a look at my IMEI (about phone -> status) and it turns out my IMEI SV is 00. It's supposed to be a 16 digit number. I found a guide to fixing it, but I think I will just contact OnePlus customer support first.
I'll be back later with my results.

Are you flashing each of the extracted .img files from fastboot, exactly like the guide shows, or are you doing something else?

Yep, I ran each command listed in the guide and my phone was definitely in fastboot. Each command had a collections of "OKAY"s and ended with a "finished", which I assume means it executed as expected.
I have tried 2 different sim cards in my OPO (of two different companies, one of them as mine), and mobile data worked perfectly. Is it possible that my phone is ok and the problem happened in the sim card?
AND... my IMEI SV is 00 too. please update here if it has a connection.
Thank you !

I'm not entirely sure what you're saying. Did it not work with the first SIM card, but it worked with the second?
Mobile data problem was occured (to me), after I rooted my OPO and tried to flash a new rom.
I still can't understand how it convinced my sim card, but the fact is that I tried two (to be sure) other sim cards which are not mine, and mobile data worked well.
When I returned my original sim card, problem started again.
So I am almost sure that sim card has a connection, but can't understand why. And why it happend precisely now, cause it worked well over two years.

Why don't you flash twrp flashable modem?
If your network is present but no data , mostly data service problem. Are you pay your mobile bills ?
Are you activate data services ?
Try this

...yes i paid my bills ..
- my network connection to provider is dead...it worked perfecly for 1 month out of the box (see original posting for detailed action i took) this thread is about lack of data connection...but also MODEM related???
- tried the brand new simcard in my old Samsung sII... works perfetly, network connection with provider, data connection and calling..so no simcard problem
Long shot. Change any APN settings from IPv6 to IPv4. That was my problem when I had text/voice but no data.
I made a post on this and then called att gophone, due to seeing other sims working on this thread, and he helped me to fix. Posting my fix here in case others with isue find this post instead of mine.
Turned off wifi.
Turned off cellular data.
Went to APN and changed the apn (ATT Go Phone) from pta to nxtgenphone.
Turned on cellular data.
Finally had H+ above he signal bar, but had an X inside the bar.
Don't know if he did anything on his end, but the X went away after a couple of minutes.
Data was working, albeit kinda slow.
Turned off phone for three minutes per ATT rep.
Rebooted.
Data still slow, but it is at least working. Thinking I need to flash different modem. Battery usage has been higher the last day or two since I flashed c7 anyways.

OnePlus One... I'm pretty sure I messed up my EFS partition.

UPDATE:
I have baseband wifi and bluetooth back but my IMEI is still showing up as 0 and no signal. I know the phone is reading the sim because I can see the phone number saved on the sim info.
Also getting "OEM_NV_Backup The NV Partition is invalid!" when I boot OxygenOS
Does anyone know where I can get 16GB installs for ColorOS and OxygenOS? I have a 16GB phone but when I use the msm download tool to install ColorOS I end up with a 64GB install.
Do you have any backup for the EFS partition?
I had same problem about EFS partition and No IMEI too. So I am almost sure that flashing completely untouched official Oxygen OS downloaded straight from official site will solve your problem as it did mine. Just download "Build" from here (oneplus forum) and flash it with latest TWRP. After that you'll get your fully working network connectivity back. Then just flash any other ROM you like, but look for perfect modem first (c6 works best in Asia and c7 rest of the world, but try both if you want). All the best :fingers-crossed::good:

gonna try that now, should I take any other steps before flashing in twrp like wiping anything?
so I tried installing oxygen through twrp but I was getting error 7 (phone is marked as A0001 and install is marked for OnePlus). I tried using the files and instructions from the oxygen 2.14 thread and somehow my phone hard bricked lol, I've learned so much about this phone in the last 2 months.
Gonna throw ColorOS on there and try going straight to OxygenOS from there.
So I had to wipe everything (system, cache, etc) before twrp let me install oxygen. I got oxygen installed but now it loops in oneplus screen and I got this issue come up after installation finished
Some more progress... was able to install oxygen os finally and it look like I'm almost done coming back from this nightmare. Baseband is back, WiFi and Bluetooth work, now just need to see about restoring my iemi, I've found some info on how to restore imei so I'll try that tomorrow sometime after waking up. I've learned so much about this damn phone! !
My bottom screen has also stopped working. The replacement screen you brought from, it is original or clone?? How does it feel to the screen when you buyed the phone from your friend. And i hope you'll get back your imei too

It's not original. Screen is fine the only downside to non oem front assembly is that that capacitive buttons will not be as bright, some have reported that they don't light up at all, seems to be luck of the draw.

As I can see from your screenshot from previous reply, you are not using official ROM. Completely official ROM is named as "OnePlus_Bacon_OxygenOS_201601190107". There was no need to wipe internal storage. Use this guide to modify the updater script. It worked for me perfectly. Then flash it and just boot into ROM. I was able to recover everything including IMEI number by this method.
And yeah, I feel the same way. I've learned so much from our beloved Bacon

You have baseband so your imei is back
yet another update
installed oxygenos with twrp, I have baseband wifi and everything but no data signal and my IMEI is 0
I've hit yet another wall :crying:
Why isn't there a 16GB version of ColorOS and OxygenOS? When I install ColorOS via msm download tool I end up with a 64GB install, I think this might be causing my "OEM_NV_Backup The NV partition is invalid!" issues as well.
Just need to resolve those two issues, bad nv partition and my IMEI being 0
Anybody know where I can get a 16GB version of colorOS, I have a feeling I overlooked something I was supposed to tweak

I don't understand why you are not flashing official Oxygen OS even after saying it solved each and everything for me?? And since it is official, it is bound to support 16 GB variant as well.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/oneplus-one/general/tool-oneplusrecovery-tool-v1-0-restore-t2991851
Ok, so the link I posted should be a last resort. You will find a recovery tool that I used when my IMEI would not return correctly. Follow all instructions, but do note that this will completely wipe everything, and if I remember correctly, that includes all personal files. The tool should land you back on the original software (like CM11S). I say try EVERYTHING else people tell you first before doing this. You're essentially starting over your phone. Good luck!
EDIT: Your recovery will be stock as well.

I did flash the official one. I used the link from the oneplus page that takes me to a forum post. At first I wasn't able to do it with twrp but afterwards I was able to
I did it once with the tool they provided and a second time through twrp, imei still 0

Aww, I'm sorry man. Best of luck finding a solution.

oneplus6 seems damaged following a failed twrp restore

So here is situation.
Phone been running 8.x version of havocos for months, however I was never fully happy due to broken usb tethering and random lockups (blue light freeze).
I decided to work on the phone 2-3 days ago, this involved doing a manual backup of all of data/media, and a nandroid backup. As well as some exports of configs in tasker etc.
I then flashed OOS stock, and nolimits, discovered tethering was still broken (yet it works with same sim in samsung galaxy s7 and hauwei).
This was the only issue tho, everything else was functioning as expected, phone was still fast.
Then I needed quick access to something that was on my phone from havocos, so decided to do a nandroid restore, this nandroid backup had all partitions ticked. The restore I also had all ticked.
The restore failed with an error 255 during data restore, I googled and found out is a nasty known bug for 2 years on TWRP, this backup was done on 3.2.3, I know now is a newer 3.3.x where this particular bug with corrupt backups might possibly be fixed.
I decided to try and boot havoc anyway but it boot looped, so I then went back into TWRP, and restored the vendor partition which was skipped. As it stopped on data, still boot looped, but also now this created a device is corrupt error on every rom boot even on stock OOS.
I spent ages trying to fix this error and during the process, discovered my phone no longer can be detected in flash boot as a com device in windows so currently the phone cannot be used with the MSM tool.
Eventually I reflashed stock using a flash-all script from here, and also put back on twrp using that script, and noticed even more issues that were not there before.
1 - phone is now much slower, stock before booted in one second after first boot, now its way way slower. Over 10 seconds so 10x as slow.
2 - I think before was a cache partition but is now gone. Supposedly these arent a thing anymore tho.
3 - nolimits zip will no longer flash with an error 1, I did exact same process as before but simply doesnt work now, the twrp detailed log right before the error 1 says "Please install the latest Magisk!" which suggests its failing to detect magisk.
4 - camera app is way slower, and OOS feels slower, laggier in general than before the problem.
5 - MTP no longer works when phone is booted up, again this is stock OOS and even if phone isnt rooted no magisk etc. But still works in TWRP. Basically the device pops up, I can see internal storage, but the size information is missing, and is no visible files/folders.
From what I can see I think my EFS is fine, I see an imei number.
I did fix the corrupted device error using a reboot command someone posted in that thread, so that error is gone now at least.
Try to flash oxygen os beta version from the official download links, let it install the stock recovery, then boot into rom, finish the installation progress by just skipping it and then factory reset it twice from recovery mode.
after doing that and finishing the setup , try to take picture and see if its saves it to gallery ( if the picture delete it self try to factory reset it through recovery for 1 more time)
I think you have figured out whats wrong, it just clicked, and I went to post and found your post so sorry no reply yet.
Indeed the problem seems to be a lack of /data/media/0
I have multiple times wiped data, and twrp has been putting files directly in /data/media, I just discovered I Cannot even take screenshots, magisk cannot download modules as well.
So I guess the stock recovery creates this structure?
Pretty shocking that twrp doesnt fix this or even have an option to. I will report back and let you know how things go, thanks.
Issue still there after stock recovery reset, wow these phones are damn hard to work with.
Also it seemed to do nothing, no settings were lost etc.
So basically stock recovery even if I choose full wipe does nothing, there seems to be some kind of lock on the internal storage that anything made by one plus is refusing to write.
I wonder if this is due to the device is corrupt message I had before where it said the device can no longer be trusted.
I can confirm that files that are on there are now visible in file manager and root explorer. But file manager can do no writes. root explorer can create new stuff but cannot delete or overwrite anything there, gets access denied.
I propose to start over again following this guide, option flash-all-partitions.bat. Helped for me.
I already stated thats already been done.
I eventually got msm working. and that luckily worked.
@chrcol ..., but you've issues

In recovery, format data. Problem fixed. Wipe will never fix your problem but format will.
