[Q] My battery life sucks! How is yours?

I'm running HyperDrive RLS 5 with the stock kernel and like the features but I am on my phone a lot and my battery is suffering. I've seen people getting 20+hours of battery life on their S3 with 3 to 4 hours of screen time. Right now I'm at 7 and half hours with 2 and a half hours of screen time. Twitter, Facebook, Instagram, text, and phone calls. I'd like to keep with the phone but I have an upgrade and may jump ship. What Roms and kernel combos are you running that are yielding this stellar battery life I hear of? Please help before I do something brash and get a Motorola or even worse an iPhone, ugh!. Thanks guys!
I run Carbon ROM +Ktoonz. I regularly get 4 hours of screen time.
My best battery life was from Synergy +Ziggy or Lean or Ktoonz. I got 5 hours of screen time.
iPhones have crap battery life, with no option to expand battery, undervolt, or underclock. How would that help you? You also can't freeze apps, make screen off profiles, etc. That's like getting a Dodge because your Honda wasn't reliable enough for you.

Clean ROM and lean kernel does wonders for me
Device idle puts my at about 80% with very little use.
Battery will last all day with very very heavy use.

Thanks for the input, gonna give the ktoonsez kernel a spin. Hopefully this helps. PS I'd never go to an iPhone. I like technology not toys. #teamdroid

I have this set up but I feel as though I'm getting iffy battery life. I keep my screen pretty dim and am on consistent wifi 100% of the day with mobile data off, no games or any CPU intensive tasks, and I get maybe 15 or 16 hours of battery life with 2-3 hours of screen time. Perhaps that is good though? I keep seeing people write about 24 hour battery life and I just don't see how.
That's pretty good. Screen on is the most important stat. You could not touch it, put it in airplane mode and boast about how many hours. I would assume some of those people are forgetting to mention they have extended batteries or are charging at some point.

Battery problems

Hello there,
I noticed that my battery really doesn't last long. It's been 100% full and now, 4 1/2 hours later, there are only 6% left. The weird thing about that is that I did not really used it during that time. WLAN has been turned on over that time, display was really dark, no backlight notifications or anything. Has anyone any idea how to fix this? (LG P940)

can you give more info
can you give more info? info like- which android, how many mah (ex: 2000,1000). give that and i may be able to help you,...
Would be really awesome! Android version is 4.2.2, battery has about 1500mah (think it's 1540) and I'm using the cyanogenmod kernel. Do you need any more information?

Thats not really much of a battery for the hardware,.. how old is it? Is this a recent problem, and when did you flash to CyanogenMod ?
To me it sounds like something is draining the battery pretty hard. Is the Wi-fi signal stable? Any processes under Apps>All, using excessive memory?
To me it sounds like you are having wifi/gps/bluetooth on all time, and if not, you should close ALL apps next time. Some running apps on your background could even drown your battery from 100% to 0% in less than 2 hours. Big apps or games cause the most trouble

If this phone/battery is more than one and half year old, this could be just battery dying, like mine (LG P920, 2 years old, 1500mAh) is dying right now.
It can't last more than 6 hours lately, so i bought a new one.
A li-ion battery (standard models) just can handle frome 300 to 500 charging cycles, thus if tou charge your phone every day, battery life has about 18 months lifetime.
After, it just dies, more or less slowly.
Thank you all so far.
Bought the phone 1/2 year ago so this can't really be the problem. The battery has never been great but got worse about a month ago. I flashed it about 2 weeks ago and this didn't seem to influence the battery.
I always keep GPS and Bluetooth turned off (only turning GPS on when I go running, but I never noticed that this influences the battery either) and Wi-fi is pretty stable. As I heard that Wi-fi is really bad for the battery I tried turning it off as much as possible and so far it seems a bit better.
I also took a look at how much memory the apps use and saw that Facebook, Kingsoft Office and Whatsapp really need a lot. I think I will uninstall Facebook and KS Office then and see if this helps.

I presume you bought it new ("and sealed")?
Maps used to be a big problem for me running in the background. See which apps use Maps.
Yep, I got it completely new.
Okay, I'll check that, thanks.

Also problem with battery
I had a similar problem, my battery got "sick" after I used my phone as a GPS during 2 or 3 days. the phone was quit warm during the navigation. After that The battery life was reduced from around a day to 9-10 hours. In addition when battery is around 20%, the phone just shut down due low-battery and as soon I turn it on, as soon it turns off!
The solution was to buy a new battery, but that is odd that using the phone as GPS navigator damages the battery so badly!
Btw, my phone is a HTC desire w/ Android 4.2
yah now i may be able to help you, download the antutu battery saver app from google (it requires root) it is a really good app and helped he last
my battery from 3 hrs to 7 1/2 hrs. if you don't have root access, then it is a prob. if you don't have, tell me and i will give you another solution which
does not require root
Thanks man, I just installed it, will write tomorrow how useful this App is.

Do you have Skype installed? That has been causing lots of battery issues lately.
Google know about the issue and are working to fix it.
Are you running a custom ROM? Try wiping the cache partition.
No I am not running Skype custom ROM either

First week I used Moto G with one sim and battery lasted for 16-20 hours. I was expecting more.
Surprisingly, after I put the 2nd sim I am getting 24-30 hours. It looks unlikely its due to having 2 sims, maybe the battery required some charging, discharging cycles before giving its intended capacity.
Hey can you post ur battery screen shots with dual Sim
Sent from my XT1033 using xda app-developers app
i am getting some decent battery life after some adjustments
disabled google now
location set to low accuracy
switch off wifi and data both during night
disable both options in motorola privacy
and disabling motorola device id
getting one day with 50 % remaining with moderate use of screen on time of nearly 4 hrs with single sim
hope it helps
I am getting 3/4 days battery life with 3h+~ on screen time. Stock rom, not rooted for now.
At the moment i am 2~days on battery, 53% left.

EDIT: upgrade on battery life 2days 21hours on battery, 3h on screen time. 18% battery left. This is after third battery charge. I am more than happy with the result. With custom ROM, some kernel improvements, Greenify it should last 4 days with 4h on screen time without a doubt.
art va dalvik battery life
guys please post art vs dalvik battery life when i use art i nearly get best battery life but not on dalvik.....

That ain't hard to achieve actually, mine right now is on 2d 15h, 5h on SoT. The best I could get was almost 10h screentime on a single day hard usage.

How is everybody rooted getting such good battery life?

How are y'all doing it? 6 hours? That's not that good to me. And some dude said he got 6 hours of on-screen time. I'm rooted with experimental kernel

I went through it. I just need help with the voltages and all that. The best settings for battery life.
Sent from my Nexus 5 using XDA Free mobile app
battery life isnt really about what kernel you use. battery life is all about how you use your phone, how you set it up, what apps you use, and most importantly, the quality of your phone/data connection. sure, a kernel might be able to help you get slightly better battery. but its really your use and your signal. and if your signal is bad quality, then your battery will always suffer.
"Good battery life" does not apply to "everybody" that has rooted. Many root and simply expect that battery life must be improved, but still need to understand the basic laws of physics first.
(People's definition of "Good" in this scenario also varies massively...)
It comes down to how you use the device. There is no 'best settings' you should be looking for. Save yourself the time, and first understand what is using your battery.
SOT is a measurement, but a crude one. It offers no insight into what those 6 hours were doing...You can be certain that it wasn't 6 hours gaming at 100% brightness though. Under relatively light CPU load, low brightness, good signal etc...the laws of physics will explain higher SOT...

this past week some people were having problems with the battery life on CM11 ROM, but it seems it's been fixed on the nightly version, try downloading greenify so you can put those annoying battery eating apps to sleep

I Highly Recommend Privacy Settings
What I did to improve my battery life was to deny most of the Google apps from waking my device and/or keeping my device awake. I have attached pictures. This improved my battery by atleast double. Also using 2g connection when connected to WiFi.
Those denied numbers have risen to 6 digits.

I agree to you that battery drains quickly.. But since we have root now greenfiying helps..
I'll post screenshots tmrw.
Before greenifying I had a drain of 2% per hour during night I would wake up with 20% less battery.. Yes I sleep 10 hrs
