[Q] replacing my screen digitizer - Xperia Z3 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

hello, i recently broke my z3's digitizer and a replacement is on its way, but i have some concerns, first of all, i noticed that there's a glue between my digitizer and my screen, i know how to remove it, i got some isopropynol , but i don't have the same glue used between the screen and the digitizer, will that be a problem ? i tried looking for it online but the only thing i was able to find is the adhesive stickers which i ordered.
has anyone did this before with their phone? i can barely find any useful videos that actually separated their digitizer from the screen .

There is only one type of glue that gives the best results and that is Loca Glue.
To change just the glass takes skill and patience, Lots of it.
Make sure u have the tools for the job. Demands a steady hand and the risk of cracking the lcd in the prosess is very high. I suggest a heatgun to make the process easier.
Good luck.

Screen replacement experience's ?

Evening all.
So my beloved DHD needs the screen and digitizer replacing. Ive done the necessary reading/ searching and ive also located what appears to be a decent replacement.
Here is the thing.......
Has anyone successfully managed to do the replacement and keep the " Home, menu, back, search " buttons lighting up post screen replacement ? If so i would really appreciate some pointers on how you did this.
Thanks in advance
i replaced a digitizer / display on my dhd once and did the same on some Hd2 before.
On DHD its really difficult to replace the screen / digitizer. You most likely damage the plastic frame around the screen and indeed the arrangement of the Leds are no easy too, but not too hard to maintain. I wouldnt change the screen of anyone others DHD, just my own.
Yes, ive read that the replacement process is somewhat fiddly / tricky and no i would'nt do it for anyone else either. Im going for a pre assembeled screen / digitizer.
digitalizer is glued on lcd and lcd is glued on the middle metal plate, removing lcd from the plate requires heating it and it sure isn't fun, even after heating it it is still hard to remove without damaging the plastic frame, if i were you i would take it to a service shop with already bought part and paied them to change it, trust me it is not worth the nerves and the time
I'm a very handy guy and I accidentally tore a ribbon cable separating the pieces glued together. It's very hard, worth paying someone.

yes, but it was a pain, hold the pieces in place with double stick tape and be careful not to bend them!
Yup I successfully managed to replace a digitizer but I'm also a trained phone technician.
The most important thing is to be very careful. You should never have to use force in order to disassemble a phone.
How to get the cracked digitizer off? Simple, use your oven.
* Place the display-module (Chassis, digitizer,LCD) on a tray, make sure the plastic parts don't touch the bottom, so that it doesn't melt.
* Heat the oven to about 80-100 degrees celsius.
* The display should come off pretty easily.
* If you've done it properly, you can use the same adhesive that was one the chassis/frame if not you'll have to purchase some slow drying adhesive and carefully place it around the edges.
* Carefully move the light-guides on the bottom of the screen to the new digitizer. There's a small amount of adhesive on them so don't get any sweat on them. If they don't stick just use a very very, I'm talking pixel size amount of adhesive on it to get it to stick.
That's about it. Thread the flex-cable around the display and use a tweezer to connect it.

Problems changing Digitizer.

I was trying to change digitizer to my tf300 by following this video http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3_JRLd7lPv8 .The video is really bad, considering that this guy will show you a tf300 that has been opened before or something, because its very easy for him to do certain things, that i found very hard, and had to use other techniques. For example, i had really hard time separating the old digitizer and the plastic frame. In order to separate these two parts, i used some heat blowing gun (professional one) which turned to be very effective separating the digitizer from the plastic frame, but the plastic got wraped (as you can see in pic). Also, i don't have an adhesive tape or glue in order to stick the new digitizer to the frame so i m unable to stick the new digitizer to the frame.

You used too much heat. I don't think the warped frame will fit anymore. You might need to buy a new one. You really don't need heat initially though. Since you were gonna discard the broken digitizer anyway, you should've just scraped the glass off. Use this type of adhesive to glue back.
Thanks for you info!I was thinking of puting the frame on a table, put the new digitizer to fit as much as possible, put some towel on, and then heat it again by gently pressing it with the iron.Else, where can i find a replacement part?I don't even know the name of this specific part so i can search for it.

It's the front plastic bezel. Sometimes it's available used on Ebay. Best place to inquire would be Asus Parts located somewhere in Europe. I wouldn't try what you're thinking of doing unless you can straighten it again using the broken digitizer, as the screen is extremely brittle and the slightest pressure might crack it.

[Q] Can ''only'' the digitizer be replaced of a broken screen?

hi
i want to know if only the exterior glass of nexus 5 can be replaced. My phone has a cracked screen but the touch response, colors etc everything works fine so only the outer glass (gorilla glass?) is damaged. I want to know if only that can be replaced as LG ask around 150$ to replace the whole component.
can i order this? is this possible?
http://www.ebay.com/itm/C-Front-Out...-Google-Nexus-5-D820-D821-Tools-/171311153201
Thanks
Bump??
im pretty sure they are fused together and if you replace 1, you replace both.
Unfortunately you will have to replace the whole thing. When my screen broke It was functional completely aside from the proximity sensor (due to shattered glass). I tried taking it apart afterwards to no avail.
Well, you'll maybe be able to replace only the touch screen (without the LCD) but it wwill not be easy has you'll probably need to heat it to be able to remove the glue, etc.
Probably better to buy a lcd + touch screen :/
ohh
so the ebay item i linked is completely useless?
Thanks for your help guys
It's not impossible to try and replace only the glass. A friend of mine has done this with his galaxy note, which also has a glued screen+digitizer+glass assembly. However, the replacement glass is pretty bad and reflective and dust has started gathering beneath it. The touchscreen was also affected: some areas don't respond so well anymore.
I've replaced just the glass on a different phone. It's the biggest pain ever. You'd have to separate the glass via a heat gun, while trying not to break the digitizer. Then remove the glue. Then adhere the new glass to the digitizer with loca adhesive. Loca is hard to deal with, bubbles, and can get into other components ruining them. It must be cured with a uv light. And even if you can pull it off, no way will it be 100%. Strange glares and whatnot. Some try to do it with double sided tape, but that leaves a gap between the glass and digitizer, which causes strange touch responses or it'll be totally unresponsive. And be prone to break the glass easily without loca. Trust me pay the $150 and let lg replace the whole assembly.

It's too bad it's like this. Probably the most likely thing to break on a phone and they make it so difficult to fix and compared to the price of the phone, expensive to fix. Certain things should just be easily fixable. Oh well, such is life.

Change Digitizer or Glass

Hello, does anybody experiences in changing the Xperia E3 Digitizer Glass panel. Not the whole Display. Only the frontglass.
I didnt found any video or tutorial.
Maybe anybody knows a similar xperia device from where I can use its tutorial? Which xperia E devices have a similar the same kind of display assambley .
Any tip is welcome
thanks in advise
With phones that have the digitizer stuck onto the LCD, it isn't normally possible to replace one of the pieces without replacing the other. All those people selling just the glass on eBay and Amazon are just scams. However, if you have already bought a glass, just can try your luck by heating the screen with a hair dryer or a heat gun for a minute or two, then (with gloves, I learnt the hard way, REALLY hot) with a nylon string (the kind you use with fishing canes) slowly slide it back and forth in a corner between the LCD and and the glass, until you can remove the LCD easily. You may have to re-heat the screen several times. Now, there will be layer of glue on both the screen and the LCD. Try removing the glue. I can't tell you how, as I don't know how to. WARNING: Don't use alcohol or nail-polish remover to try to remove the glue, as it doesn't remove it well, and it damages the screen. Once that is done, you can try to somehow glue the LCD to the new screen. Once again, I can't tell you how as I don't know how to.
If you are successful, please write back saying how.

Screen Glass Replacement

Did anybody try replacing the glass screen on the LG G5? Not the whole digitizer, screen only.
Looks like replacement glass is found quite cheap.

There is a crack on my screen, the touchscreen is perfect. Is there a procedure somewhere that can be followed to get it done? I see a lot of videos for a complete teardown. But is it possible to just use a heatgun to take the glass off and put the new one in?
These display modules are oftenly replaced altoghether, because replacing only the glass requires it to be really precisely fitted and hermetically glued, you can probably try to seperate the digitizer from the display, but you may end up with a some dust underneath the glass or some unwanted gaps.

I had a crack on my screen at the top of when it fell down on concrete floor. I had to buy the whole display with glass and digitizer for about 130 euros. I did not know that you can just buy the glass and replace it with a lower price. Oh well... but if you want to separate the glass from the digitizer or anything what is glued, always use the heatgun. You can also use the hairdryer. I had to replace a battery by opening up a back cover with a hair dryer. For separating the glass from the digitizer you have to heat it up very often, pry it open and hold at several spots, to avoid breaking components. It s quite difficult but take it slowly.

So, if I crack my screen I need to get a screen replacement with frame or just screen replacement?
Screen replacement with frame

You can get without the frame, you will just need to heat up the glue between the frame and old screen to cut through the glue to remove the frame. They cover it on the instruction video on Fixez.
