[Q] Smartlock trusted locations? - Verizon Samsung Galaxy S6

Playing with smartlock tonight and setup trusted places. Looks ok, but doesn't actually work.
Anyone get this working?
I'm using OE2 if it matters, rooted stock.

It works for me. I only use it for my house via gps. I've never had any issues on any build or ROM with it.

Hmmm.. Using it at my house, have good GPS, but it doesn't seen to work. Strange.
Thanks

It works. Just realize it times out after certain amount of minutes. Even in trusted locations

Do you have an Exchange account that forces certain security settings?
If you do, that causes Smart Lock not to work.

Installing Nine email for Exchange and removing the Exchange account from the phone makes Smart Lock start working again.

I do have exchange but do not have a pin lock requirement. When home, I often set lock screen to none, and use a pattern lock when I go out as a matter of habit. With pin lock requirement turned on, I would not be able to use pattern lock or set lock screen to none.

Yep. You're right. That wouldn't cause an issue.
I have also heard of folks who had to set 3 or 4 trusted places around their home for it to work. Say, your house, neighbor on the left, neighbor on the right...etc.

Hmmm... today at work, it actually worked. Once. it took me a while to figure out why and perhaps why it doesn't work most of the time.
If I let my phone time out, or use the power button to turn off the screen, it appears to work..
But if I use the button (app called screen off) that turns off the screen immediately and locks the phone it doesn't then work when I turn the phone back on.
I use the screen off button all the time as it is much easier than reaching around for the power button and I like to turn off the screen before I put it in my pocket or even put it down since it is less difficult to mess something or activate something when handling the device.
Now that I know what is going on... I can possibly talk to the developer about it to see if there is a "fix". Or just hitting the power button instead.
Note I typically hold the phone in my left hand and my fingers are lower on the device to balance it better.

Damn. I forgot Greenify does the same thing. Glad you finally figured it out.

When it worked the first time I wasn't sure what was happening as I had never seen it work before. It wasn't until I got a desk phone call and it timed out on it own and did it again, that I made the connection. I actually forgot it was still setup.

Hmm, I don't have "secure lock settings" anywhere. It's a brand new S6, and updated to G920VVRU2AOF1 -- did Verizon do away with it in this version?

Ah! So that's why it's not working most of the time! Did you ever get a fix or workaround for the screen off app? I have the screen off button on the bottom left of all my home screens because it's so much more convenient than the power button, but I'm tired of doing the damn fingerprint all the time at trusted locations.

[REQ/IDEA] A different kind of lock screen

After reading THIS story about how the cops can now search your cell phone without a warrant, I started looking for a way to protect my privacy.
The trouble is, I've tried all the password protected lock screen apps, and they're just too much of a PITA - unlocking the phone dozens of times per day when I would rarely need it to actually be "locked". What I really want is an app that will securely lock down my phone on-demand. Preferably based on hardware trigger like holding down the trackball on my N1, but that could be setup later.
I thought of a few options that might be popular too:
-Make the lock screen all black so that someone might think the phone is off.
-Make the lock screen look like a calculator; "I wasn't texting while driving officer, this is just a calculator."
-Make the lock screen display the 4th amendment.
-If the phone is restarted when the lock screen was on, the phone boots back into the lock screen.
-When the lock screen is activated, it will begin encrypting all the data on your SD card.
-Have the app record failed attempts to unlock it.
So... what do you guys think? Useful?
Thanks,
Billy
I would love something like that!
Id love this app/
Sent from my Sourcery using XDA App
I had some program before that showed a "fake crash message", where you could unlock the phone by tapping the text 2 or 5 times, tilt the phone and etc. Very neat.
I also would love this kind of app!
I love it! I'd go for this.

Damn.. If you need to encrypt data on your phone's SD card you should probably re-think your security strategy and hide your sensitive information on a hard drive with TrueCrypt using their hidden partitions or something haha.
Phones are easily stolen and therefore not a good place for that stuff
But one semi-close idea/alternative to what you want, that you can also use now for the time being is available in at least the CyanogenMod CM6.1 roms(not sure about other roms seeing as I only repo sync his stuff ).
Under 'CyanogenMod Settings' and then 'User Interface' there are screen lock options..
You can set the 'screen timeout delay' (determines the delay time after screen times out for when the lock will enable) to 30 minutes and the 'screen turned off delay' (how long after you press the power/end button the lock will enable) to instantly.
With it setup like that, you'll be able to greatly reduce the number of times you need to unlock your phone as long as you let it time out - which could be a slight downfall though if you have a screen time out of a minute or more and you don't want to keep the screen on. Regardless, whenever you want it locked simply turn the screen off manually and it will be engaged next time you turn the screen on.
Hope that works out until someone finds/develops an app that will do what you want/need

Thanks for the reply and the suggestion. I totally hear ya on that first part. I was mostly trying to think of useful features, not ones that I necessarily need. I wasn't sure if you could encrypt the data on the SD Card and then continue to use it (without a huge hit to the speed).
I wouldn't think my idea would be that hard to code (at least the basic structure of it). Maybe it's time for me to learn. 800+ views, but no dev input?

JeepFreak PM'ed me asking for some input so I'll provide it both as a dev and as a user.
Lock screens are tricky to implement. Android doesn't officially support replacement lock screens and I'll admit to a fair amount of API abuse in order to get WidgetLocker to work as well as it does. But I've thus far avoided implementing any custom security for a few reasons:
1) Making it actually secure. Android's built in security is not perfect, but it is secure. Third party apps can't fully deactivate it once it's locked. The APIs that let you bypass part of it only allow that part. (This is stock Android, I know manufactures addons introduce security flaws). A third party app simply doesn't have the same information or abilities as part of the rom.
2) Reboots are hard. Android sends a BOOT_COMPLETED signal to apps (if they want it) however it's near the end of the boot process, meaning the stock lock screen is already active and the Launcher is active behind it. One way around this is to act as a replacement Launcher (Like WidgetLocker's HomeHelper) however this can cause the actual launcher to reload sometimes as it's removed from memory.
3) Explaining things is hard. If adding a kind of fake-security, that's just meant to deter a friend (or cop I guess) from messing with your phone, then some users won't realize it's just meant as a kind of fake-security and will freak out when they realize it can be bypassed by such and such method.

One not-well-known option, if you're on GSM, is that if you pull the SIM card, all your accounts credentials are revoked, locking out gmail/etc. I haven't tested if deactivating the sim remotely (via a phone call to the carrier, or maybe from some carrier's websites) would trigger the same thing but I imagine it would.
-Make the lock screen all black so that someone might think the phone is off.

It can be very confusing if the phone is actually on or not, especially since there is a slight lag between when you hit the power button and when the screen comes on. On AMOLED screens it looks like the screen is off, on LCD screens the backlight comes on, but could be set to be pretty dim (Setting backlight all the way down may cause the screen to actually turn off and ignore touches)
This could actually be done with WidgetLocker by setting the background to black, then using the back button to unlock. After I release the update with themes you could even have an invisible (or all black) slider so you slide to unlock but only in a certain position.
-Make the lock screen look like a calculator; "I wasn't texting while driving officer, this is just a calculator."

Not that using a calculator while driving is a good idea either...
If I end up adding security to WidgetLocker I'll make it themable as well so it would be possible for the pin screen to look like a calculator.
-If the phone is restarted when the lock screen was on, the phone boots back into the lock screen.

I assume you mean this for a lock screen that wouldn't normally be activate automatically. See above about reboots.

The best setup would be for the sdcard to always be encrypted (And still usable as it'd be mounted via loop back ( https://help.ubuntu.com/community/EncryptedFilesystems ) so it's still usable normally by other programs. Then even if the enemy pulls the sd card right away it's not usable. This kind of encryption must be implemented at the system/rom level.

Getting bug reports for such an app would be tricky to deceiver .
This would also be possible with WidgetLocker using a custom background that looked like a crash screen. There's no current way for tapping the text a few times to unlock, however a third party dev could implement a widget or shortcut that did such a thing.
ok, ive developed a makeshift idea, and id be willing to give this a shot myself:
first off, there is a free app called "lock screen widget", which will solve the problem of quick access to the lockscreen for people without a hardware "lock" button
next, maybe i could find a lockscreen app (it owuld have to be free, otherwise i wouldnt be able to post it in here, due to warez) and rip open the .apk and just make the framework allllll black.
a few things to keep in mind:
-you would have to memorize where to touch the screen to unlock your phone
-a cop could get lucky and swipe the right spot on the screen
-if you have LED backlit buttons on your phone, they could still light up when the screen is locked, indicating to the officer that the phone is in fact on
let me know what you guys think of this
How about just a swipe to lock? I too hate constantly unlocking my phone but if I could just lock it at the lock screen then this would most likely trigger the need for a warrant to access my phone by law enforcement.
Not that I am a criminal but I hate the idea that law enforcement can do whatever they want with your data if it is on your person.
Just a thought, could the swipe to silence the phone be redirected to lock it instead?

[Q] How to use Trusted devices to automatically unlock Z3 on 5.0.2?

Before Lollipop, Sony had implemented a trusted feature with, say, a Pebble smartwatch or other trusted device - but now with 5.0.2 installed, I can't see how to set/change it.
What's more, my existing trusted device (watch) no longer unlocks the phone when in range.
I can see there's now a new setting (off by default) in Settings/Security/Trust agents/Smart Lock (Google) which could be it - as in the native Lollipop method, but even once I turn that on, there's no option that I can find unless I'm being really dumb?!
Think I've answered my own question. I rebooted and now in security there's a Smart Lock function menu that let's you unlock with Bluetooth, face etc.
That's exactly it, and it works better than what Sony had in 4.4.4 - it skips the lockscreen completely and without delay, unlike Sony's implementation...

How so? With my SmartBand, it just bypasses the pattern, but I still have to swipe to unlock it, unlike with 4.4.4 where it would unlock it completely.
I'm having trouble with this working with my SmartBand. On 4.4.4 my phone unlocked no problem 100% percent of the time. On 5.0.2 maybe 50% of the time. It's so frustrating!
It's working fine for everyone?

It's having compatibility issues with the SmartBand I guess. Same here, so back to using Tasker to achieve that.
I may have figured it out.
When I first set up smartly smartlock I did so using nfc when prompted to pair to the smartband.
What I did now was turn off the smartband and force stop or uninstall the smartband app (I uninstalled). To turn off the smartband you hold down the little button for a while (past the night mode toggle). Now go into the Bluetooth menu and turn on the smartband. Tap it when it shows up. Now that they're paired. Go back and setup smartlock again but this choose Bluetooth instead of nfc.
Using nfc it labeled the smartband as "smartband" while the Bluetooth method named it sw-10.
What I still liked about Sony's implementation was that you could set the proximity. I thought that was brilliant. I want the phone to unlock if it's in my hand and that's it.
What changes? Nothing, you still have to slide to unlock.

Yes, but we're talking specifically about the Sony Smartband in the last few posts. Apparently there is some issue with compatibility and I thought I had figured it out. I did, but as with others the problem now is that it won't hold through a power down cycle.
We understand the directions state you may have to reenter your passcode/pattern if the phone is left for a while or powered off but for me, and I believe some others, the only way to get it back is to erase the smartband app and start all over with pairing and smartlock setup. It's not like it starts working again after a single "verification"
As far as people's complaint about the smartlock not bypassing the swipe screen I believe that to simply be a lollipop change because of the new notification centric lockscreen. I actually like it. 75% of the time I want to check on a notification or mess with the music that's playing. Now it can bypass my security but still let me get to my notifications and music quickly. I actually much prefer it this way.
You are arguably just a minority judging by the topic full of hatred on AOSP forum. And I agree, why should I waste my time on a screen I don't want to have notifications at, especially as on KitKat, it worked basically the same, the device was unlocked by simple double click and next swipe could've been sliding notification bar. Don't see why I should have to swipe twice as much just to unlock the phone, it's the thing you do everytime you use your phone, for f***'s sake!
Sent from my Xperia Z2 via Tapatalk
We are all the minority. 9 out of 10 people could care less if they have to swipe, tap, or whatever. The people complaining in a thread on a forum certainly don't represent the larger audience. So yes, on these forums perhaps I am the minority, but I think with the z3 running lollipop there are quite afew improvements over KitKat. Some things I wish didn't change but Sony and Google didn't customize a Rom just for me. You always have the option of reverting to KitKaT.

Nova Launcher workaround!?

Using Nova Launcher gesture feature. For'Swipe Down' to expand notifications accessibility permission has to be enabled in S7. But if enabled Nova takes up almost 200 MB of RAM that led to device freezing(https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=r1UChZaaw58). If not enabled just 50MB(75MB max) is the RAM usage. In the case of AOSP ROMs there is no need of even enabling accessibility permission for Nova. Is there any work around in TouchWiz to achieve 'Swipe Down' to expand notifications without enabling accessibility permissions?

Just turn it off and pull down from the top still works.
All that accessibility is for is so you can swipe down/up any where on the screen.

Also i wish the double tap to sleep worked better too. If you use it along with fingerprint, everytime you double tap to sleep the phone, on the subsequent log in into the phone, it requires you to enter you pin which defeats the purpose of using fingerprint

I emailed Nova support and they confirmed it is an issue with Android M and they are hoping there will be an update for it.

I reached out to nova regarding theirs and like I mentioned - they said it's an issue in Android. Looked at the reviews for Screen off and Lock and there are others that are on Android M(Nexus 6P) that are having the same issue as well

i'll get a video with my wifes phone tonight and upload it so you can see what I'm referring to.

just had a person who has international S7 here in the US try and it works for them.
only conclusion is that it is something having to to with the OS for the US variant or having to do with Samsung Pay. Seriously doubt it's an issue between the 2 chipsets

Using Nova Launcher gesture feature. For'Swipe Down' to expand notifications accessibility permission has to be enabled in S7. But if enabled Nova takes up almost 200 MB of RAM that led to device freezing

My swipe down works fine, but the double tap to turn off doesnt... you win some you lose some i guess.
I have Nova's double tap gesture set to "Screen Lock" and it works fine. I DO NOT have to enter my pin on the next wake, using fingerprint.
Edit: G930V
I had the same problem with nova double tap to lock. Screen off also didn't work for me. The only workaround for me is Screen lock pro, also in the settings you have to enable Smart lock and nexus imprint and works flawless.

That really shouldn't work, when you double tap you get a prompt for device admin privileges and it states "this is a full secure lock that requires pin/patten to unlock even if using fingerprint scanner". Not sure how its working on some phones, unless you're rooted?

Automatically answering calls when screen facing down and in pocket

Not sure if anybody else has experienced this, but the phone seems to answer calls automatically when the screen is facing down or in a pocket. This issue persists even with all the motion control settings off. I have also activated different combinations of them to no avail. As an experiment, I had a friend call with the screen facing up. The phone rang, but as soon as I flipped it over, the call was answered. Software glitch?

I have done this. No impact whatsoever. The screen doesn't even have to be touched while facing down to auto-answer.

Check whether your ambient light sensor is working or not.
Have you tried factory reset? Did u update your phone recently?
If you need to lock your device to avoid accidental pick ups, follow these steps:
- Press the power button to manually lock the screen.
- The screen will lock automatically and enter sleep mode after it has been idle for a certain period to reduce power consumption and prevent unintended operations.
NOTE: To change the screen sleep time, open [click to enlarge] Settings, touch Display > Sleep, and then select a time.
Your phone will continue to receive messages, notifications, and incoming calls when the screen is locked. The status indicator will flash when you receive new notifications. When you receive an incoming call, the screen will turn on and display the caller information. (NS)
I have the same issue and it is really disturbing. Even if it is locked, if the proximity sensor is covered the phone automatically answers the call. I have all of the smart motion features turned off.
This means if someone calls me and my phone is face down or in my pocket, they can listen in on whatever I'm doing. I didn't notice it immediately because I don't receive many calls. I'm running the latest Honor firmware, but I would rather not have to factory reset (a huge hassle) just to test if anyone else has any information.
Phew, crisis averted. After half an hour or so of scrambling around my phone settings (I've been using android for a long time, I know my way around the settings VERY well), I found the culprit wasn't even an Honor smart feature. In the android accessibility menu, I somehow had "Raise to ear to answer" turned on. Apparently on the Honor 8 (and maybe more android phones? I'll have to do some testing), this setting only watches the proximity sensor and not the proximitey sensor AND the accelerometer. The Honor's smart motion feature "Raise to ear to answer calls" watches both sensors and works properly. OP, go to Settings->Advanced Settings->Accessibility and make sure the "Raise to ear to answer" settings is switched off!

The answer in post 6 is correct works on the H5x also
As someone who had this issue, I will point out that there were two distinct ways of getting to the "raise to ear to answer" setting on my Honor 8 and I had to turn BOTH off before it stopped answering calls in my pocket. So if anyone is having this issue, it might be worth checking out if your phone has multiple paths to the setting.

Simply go to settings and type the word Raise in the search box and both settings are right their.
The big thing on the H5x was the setting was on by default I think their both off on the H8 unless you change it

Thanks. This was driving me crazy with the Honor 7x. I turned this feature on but couldn't remember how i did it and couldn't find the setting. I have a flip case on the phone so it would ALWAYS auto answer because it thought it was at my ear.

Question Samsung Pay no longer an app option for side key double press (power button)

Pretty much that the title says. I attempt to go to set double clicking the power button to open Samsung pay, and i do not see the app as an option anymore. I used to have it set on my s21 ultra. I have a fresh install so i didn't transfer any of my settings to my s22 Ultra. Anyone else having this issue? Any work arounds?
I already have my Samsung pay set up and I've been using it. I attempted to uninstall and reinstall Samsung pay and that didn't help.
You could use the quick access settings from samsung pay. I have mine to activate is i swipe up on screen off or on lock. I leave the swipe on home screen off to avoid issues with gestures.

Look for Side Key in System Settings, not in Samsung Pay. You can set Double press for Samsung Pay.

That's exactly what I'm doing. I went to the system settings and selected side key. But like i said, Samsung pay is not an option on the list of apps to set as a side key double press.

This is frustrating this. I'm going to start using the side actions app to remap it for now..
BUMPING this post. I got the March update but still no option to select Samsung pay as a side key option. I'm using a third party app but it's ideal because it opens up bixby for a split second and then it opens up Samsung pay but on the wrong screen.
Anyone know of any fixes short of factory resetting my phone?

Just open the Samsung Pay app, Accept the permissions if required, Install the update if required too.
After all that, go to your side key settings and it'll show up.
I don't even use it tbf, but i saw your message and realised mine didn't show it either (Already updated too). So i was curious...

I have all permissions accepted and the most up to date app.
Did you not have it as an option at first? And after following your steps then you got it to show?
Hmm Interesting... I didn't have the option to start off with either
When i went to Samsung pay, it asked me to change settings to allow 2 of the permissions. Then it asked me to install it. After installing i headed straight into side keys and the option turned up like that.
Thought i would test my theory out another way.
Uninstalled it, Then reinstalled it
*Note* - I don't have any cards attached to mine. I don't know if you'll have to fill all yours out again ‍♂

Nothing. I uninstalled it reinstalled it. Cleared cache, cleared data, cleared cache in recovery, repaired apps in recovery. I have no idea what else to do. I have gpay i wonder if that's causing issues.
I'm in the US on TMo, have Samsung Pay working with normal method and March update. Samsung Pay is not an option in the side key double press applications.
I have T-Mobile and no Samsung Pay option for the side key despite having Samsung Pay set up. Although I do not intend to use it, I would like to understand why the option does not appear for all owners
