Wow, this phone is a long time out waiting for this option to root, let alone TWRP. Alot of people off androidforums.com were putting in requests with kingroot and guess it paid off. Have you checked to see if firmware download is available for this phone? Besides a system pull off another device, these are the only options to fix any type of softbrick!

Will this root zte9518abb (ZTE Warp Elite)?

Zte N9515 Boost Mobile.
I rooted the zte n9515 warp sync from boost mobile about a year ago, I received an OTA update one day, unrooted the phone and the phone still is stuck in a bootloop. I am able to get to stock recovery, but, my issue is I have done everything I could think of to unbrick that phone. Zte updates don't work, stock firmware doesn't work, zte open gives me a partition mbn error, all kinds of flash tools using .pit files bin files IMG files.... I haven't found a way to fix it yet... I'm not too familiar with adb commands and I've done the research.. Using android SDK I only receive an adb rejected shell command error and adb sideload continuously gives me E:2 footer[2]=0x00 footer[3]=0x00 E:signature verification failed error message... No matter what I sideload. I need help fixing this issue if anyone has a suggestion or the answer to this I would really appreciate it....

please i need any rom for this phone

Have you tried flashing each item of the os individually? Also, i'm using ubuntu 14.04 and can follow mac tutorials well, you might want to search that instead. You will get your phone working again man let me know what you find and how I can help you.

[How To] Root ZTE Grand X Max Plus - 4.4.4(Z987)

Recently I was on the hunt for a root method for this particular device but was unable to find any clear instructions, so I thought I would make my own!
All downloads linked below
1. Download and install Kingroot and TWRP. Download SuperSU as well.
2. Open and run Kingroot. You may have to run it several times. It took my 5 tries before it worked.
3. Open TWRP and select install recovery, grant access via Kinguser, and you should see a "Success" message pop up.
4. Reboot into TWRP.
5. Make a backup in TWRP just in case.
6. Flash the previously downloaded SuperSU.zip
7. ??????
8. Profit!
Additionally, you can uninstall Kingroot, KInguser, and Purify with something like Titanium Backup.
Downloads!
Get 'em while they're hot!

I just did today.
Will it stop it from working if I updated to 5.1 ?
loss of root after reboot
when i first tried this i was able to get root, but after i installed su in twrp and reboot i no longer had root. I tried playing around with a few different things, with no luck. Now I can't even get the kingroot app to successfully root my phone, it keeps rebooting then says no root options and offers a submit problem option. I have tried clearing cache on the kingroot app and uninstall/reinstall. Any ideas as to what the problem could be? any help would be much appreciated.

I realize this is a ancient thread, however I figured I would share my personal experience with this phone regarding bootloader unlock and root.
Without going into every little minutia regarding the process, you can bootloader unlock\temp root\flash twrp\flash supersu from twrp doing this (requires a sd card):
Step one: unlock bootloader. Use revskills, drop phone into EDL via FTM mode with adb reboot-edl, open revskills, go to Hardware -> Port Utils -> QC + AT Commands then select your edl port, go to BL section, and choose to send BOOTLDR -> UNLOCK BOOTLDR ZTE. Reboot phone.
Step Two: Use croowt.apk to get temp root via dirty cow exploit. This takes some noodle'ing around, however it WILL give you temp root, and thats all you need for 2 minutes to...
Step Three: use the TWRP installer for this handset, which you can find out there on the interwebs. Hint hint zmax_twrp_286.apk google is your friend here.
Step Four: use adb reboot recovery to drop into TWRP, then install the supersu.zip I hope you downloaded but I forgot to mention to do so heh.
I got this all worked out over a hour stretch, only after being told there simply was no way to root this device after taking the lollipop update. *poof*

How To Fix TWRP Bootloop

After attempting root on my replacement phone, I could NOT boot to system. Each time I rebooted to "System", it would boot straight to TWRP over and over. I tried reflashing stock files. No verity patching.. etc.
The Fix:
Download the latest version of TWRP specific to your device here https://build.nethunter.com/test-builds/twrp/lge/
Flash the file and the device should now be able to boot to system. If that doesn't work try another version.
I spoke to @jcadduono about my problems and he believes there may have been something weird going on in the misc partition. Reflashing TWRP will/should fix the problem.
Thanks @jcadduono for all the support.
I had this happen to me after installing TWRP for the first time. It would keep rebooting to TWRP. This was after making sure I flashed SuperSU as well. Eventually in a moment of "might as well see what will happen" I rebooted then held down the power button and volume down. Got to the option if I wanted to factory reset my phone which I did which booted into TWRP. Rebooted to system from there which got me out of the TWRP Bootloop.
I'm still in the bootloop. It now says "No OS installed." Any help would be appreciated.
Also, I'm getting this:
"Failed to mount '/system' (Unknown error 150)"
Help, please!

Turn off your phone. Go into TWRP *manually*. That is, press the power off and volume down buttons. Once you see the LG logo, quickly release the power button and press it again. It will ask if you want to do a factory reset. Say "Yes" to both.
Once inside TWRP (*manually*), do a factory reset. You will be rebooted and it will go back to TWRP. Once inside TWRP after the reboot, go to reboot and choose "System". You should know be out of the TWRP bootloop!
It worked for me.

Decrypt data.
As a general statement : Almost all TWRP bootloops are due to users not backing up their data, and then formatting data.
Hardware encryption is not supported.
Decrypt your data, flash a ROM, and if that ROM doesn't have SuperSU, flash SuperSU.
Go flash my v5 MOD ROM.
Decrypt your data! 95% of TWRP loop cases are due to data not being decrypted, or some other step the user failed to follow.
Good luck.

This is because you went to Advanced Wipe, and formatted /system.
Make sure you are on the latest TWRP, make sure you're data is decrypted, and then go flash my v5 MOD ROM.

is it possible that the phone bootloops without doing anything like root and custom roms?
asking cz i'm looking to get the LG V20 but don't know about the risk of it bootlooping itself, without rooting or anything like that, like it used
to happen on lg g4 and g3.
Thank you
It's been determined that it does this when it finds an update in the fota and or misc folders. The phone downloads updates even when you tell it not to. It just doesn't install them without your permission.
Easy to get out of with the volume down and power button reset procedure which then deletes the files automatically or you can delete the files in twrp to fix it.

All the bootloops for the V20 so far are all due to modifications and rooting. There are some roms that work for everyone but just refuses to work on my phone and will just bootloop. I doubt that the cause of the software bootloop is fully known. I've followed directions 100% on working romss and it would bootloop but installed a different version of the same rom and it worked. None of the bootloop "fixes" did anything for me. Fortunately, the rom that I installed is still awesome and works great.

There's a few guides here on how to do a full restore. Make sure you download the things you need according to your model V20 and make sure you have ADB working and current drivers installed.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/v20/how-to/restore-v20-to-100-stock-bricked-devices-t3524903/page7
I've used the kdz file before without any problems but it began the process from my home screen. I had no idea how to get it to start if you're in a TWRP loop which is where the "download mode" came in.
With the phone completely off, hold volume up a d plug it in the computer.
That will put it in download mode which is what mine needed.
The other mistake I made, make sure you use a USB 2.0 port, not 3.0. I've always had issues with USB 3.0 drivers not working correctly but 2.0 seems to be good.
My one is fully back to stock on Verizon 13a now and works well, except I think something is taking up space on my internal storage. It shows a max of around 50 gb with used some and 44 gb available. That seems quite low like something isn't right...
twrp boot loops most deffinately happen due to the update package sitting in your misc folder
use twrp to delete the misc directory as well as the fota directory and reboot.
This hasn't happened to me once since i moved to the latest version for my variant, but happens a ton when using the original build that kept dl the update regardless of me telling it to.
This is a common issue with the LG series and boot-loops. They all do this if there is a expected upate in the misc directory. And has been covered many times over the variants and that deleting misc is the only option. Some of us dont have a kdz, or if youve changed your build.prop the kdz wont restore anything since it will see it as a incompatible device.
before rebooting into twrp on a older build make sure you delete the update package if not this will keep happening. once deleted make sure the updater gets frozen so it wont re-download later.

[Completed] Help with reinstalling bootloader

Hi.
I am relatively experienced user who has rooted and installed custom roms on samsung galaxy and HTC desire phones before.
I have now attempted to root my alcatel onetouch pixi 4 (4034X) using instructions from this thread :- https://forum.xda-developers.com/android/general/alcatel-one-touch-pixi-4-t3376597
I got as far as flashing twrp recovery and now the phone is stuck in constant reboot. I downloaded alcatels mobile upgrade tool in hopes of reflashing the stock rom but it seems to be looking for a later rom than the one I have installed and keeps telling me I have the lastest and so wont flash.
So can I recover from this at all or have I just bricked my phone? Is there a way to FORCE the mobile upgrade tool to reflash the current rom rather than looking for an upgrade?
It seems that everything except the bootloader is intact so is there another tool I can use to restore the bootloader?
Any help would be greatly appreciated.
Looks like I managed to unbrick using a combination of SP Flash tool and an SPFT rom for the 4034X I found on the internet. will now try reflashing a different recovery tool.
O.K. so I think what is happening is an issue when unlocking the bootloader and not when flashing recovery.
This is what I did:-
1. Enabled developer mode.
2. Turned on usb debugging and unlocked bootloader oem
3. Rebooted phone, plugged in cable and accepted connection authorisation.
4. From windows typed adb reboot bootloader. Went into to fastboot.
5. Typed fastboot oem unlock, Pressed volume up on phone.
At this point I was put back in fastboot but none of the buttons worked and the phone looked like it had frozen. Was It wiping data at this point? There was no indication that it was doing anything.
I removed the battery and reinserted but when I restarted I got the same boot loop problem. Had to restore stock firmware AGAIN.
Am I doing something wrong?
Update: I managed to install caliv touch recovery without unlocking the bootloader by using the same sp flash tool I used to restore the stock rom. However, I cant install root. The recovery will only let me sideload and I could only find the chainfire SU binaries for sideload (SuperSU 2.78-SR1 and superSU 2.46). Both of these seem to flash ok using adb sideload with ctr recovery but the phone hangs at the boot logo. I also had superuser-r197 (ph's sueruser) but that wouldn't sideload.
So I now have a custom recovery but still can't root
Has anyone succesfully rooted the 4034X (UK)? If so, how?

Hi & welcome to xda-assist,
you can try to force the installation of supersu systemless by this step, chances are good that this will make it boot properly.
boot into twrp >go to the terminal > and type:
echo SYSTEMLESS=false>>/data/.supersu
Don't know if the recovery you use has this terminal option but it's very likely.
You can do additional a Google search on "force SuperSU systemless" to get more information / background information..
Good luck
Sent from my OnePlus 2 using XDA Labs
Thanks for your reply Sam.
I only read that after I had found a copy of a CM13 Rom that worked with The 4034X. I basically flashed superSU first then did a wipe, then installed the custom rom and google apps nano before downloading the supersu apk from google play and reinstalling. Now I have a rooted phone with a custom rom and am somewhat happier. The reason I wanted to root was to remove the bloatware that was taking up 1.5 GB of my already measly 2GB internal memory and this new ROM only takes up .5 GB.
I still have some pain. For example many of the Rom Toolbox Pro functions don't work and I think its because the system image seems protected and refuses to mount rw no matter what I do. Even issuing a remount command using the device name from cat /proc/mounts tells me the block device is read only. I also seem to be unable to verify if I have busybox or install it due to the same reason.
It also took me some time to work out that the boot animations weren't stored in /data/local or /system/media but to /data/system/theme.
This used to be so much easier in the days of ice cream sandwich and lollipop. Ah well!
Update:- Managed to flash busybox 1.26 using a flashable zip via adb sideload in Caliv Recovery (Caliv can't see my adopted storage for some reason).
I'm happy now! Would still like to have a rw system so I can remove some system apps I don't use but its no biggie.

I am stuck on twrp and cant boot up [SUPER STRESSED PLS HELP!!!]

Ok. I am not a developer. I am a teenager just messing around with my phone. Basically, the whole story is that I tried updating my ota while keeping root and twrp right and i was following the video. everything was going smoothily until i got back and for some reason my magisk couldn't set up correctly. I twas there but it wasn't setting up the files and whatnot. So i restarted and got into twrp recovery. Based on some xda forums and threads and a few youtube videos I gifured out that my twrp couldn't detect ANTHING on my phone's internal storage. SO i ended up formatting the data and when i tried rebooting the system it didn't boot up it just brought me straight back to twrp. PLS HELP. Thank you.
someone who is super knowledgeable would be greatly appreciated. This phone means a lot to me and I don't want it to break! PLS! thanks again.
download the OOS full zip, TWRP v70, and magisk v20
move to your device while in TWRP
from twrp install the OS full zip
Install TWRP
Reboot back to TWRP
Install Magisk
Boot to OS.
future reference to update. Download full zip from Oxygen Updater or System Updates
go to system updates and click on gear icon and local install
click on OS full zip
once done DO NOT REBOOT
go to magisk and install twrp as magisk module (DO NOT REBOOT)

If not just do the msm restore i know its frustrating but you have to do a lot of reading research you can restore your phone
I think it's best you flash a fastboot ROM since you have already lost all your data.
https://forum.xda-developers.com/oneplus-7-pro/how-to/rom-stock-fastboot-roms-oneplus-7-pro-t3931424
Calm down, have a cup of coffee, charge your phone for a bit and then follow this guide. Good luck.
EDIT: Important to note that you can hold down vol + and vol - immediately when booting to get into fastboot
Try to format Data in twrp, not the factory reset or data wipe, the one where u type yes, then reboot back to twrp and see if you can mount data. If all else fails use the msm tool

I would try what the above poster said and use the fastboot Rom first. What model device do u have?
Use MSM download tool to restore your phone.
As advised previously, I would download the latest Fastboot pack from this thread. Unpack the zip file and then use the batch files to install the partitions you want. I would recommend the flash-all one.
After that, I would recommend buying similar items to the following :
USB C to USB 3.0 Male Adapter
https://www.amazon.co.uk/gp/product/B07KXHNY5F
SanDisk Ultra USB Type-C 16 GB
https://www.amazon.co.uk/gp/product/B01BUSMYHC
This will let you hold the files required for fixing your issues on a usb drive which you can use with your phone, the interface is for using the same with your computer to transfer the files. If you keep the usb drive with you then you should be able to resolve issues as long as you can get TWRP installed.
TWRP will allow you load/flash files from the usb drive, just tap on the "Storage" button and you'll see the USB storage as an option. Make sure anything you want is in the "Android" folder on the drive.
I would definitely recommend downloading TWRP, Magisk v20 and the full latest release of OOS and keeping these on the drive, then you know you have a route back to a working phone.
For future reference, if you root your phone you cannot install an OTA, you must install the full zip.
Also, if you flash TWRP, you have to install Magisk afterward to retain root privileges.

by fastboot rom is that just the bootloader? because as of now that still works i just don't know ho to use it. only twrp recovery isn't working and its really stressing meeee. does that mean i can flash things via the bootloader mode or whatever its called; fastboot? thx for the help its relieving my stress. im just happy that my phone isnt bricked. also my bootloader IS unlocked so i think that helps. i look forward to ur response!
This phone is quite troublesome to flash lol I had problems aswell, bricked 3/4 times! I used msm tool to recover It.
I figured out how things works after multiple Bad results.
I think things are getting more complicated year After year

I mean thats learning by doing and everyone did that ( I struggled with OP6), but if you get behind this whole a/b scheme and understand what does what and when to flash it you wont brick anything (unless you try pre alpha recoveries and the recovery fails).
So i think the best option is to either stay stock (stock is nearly perfect rn, just if you need magisk install it) or to "learn" how to resolve some issues youll get when flashing custom roms
the worst thing you can do is to just follow some guides and wonder if something fails
