Bank app says no camera if flash is on - Verizon Samsung Galaxy S6

Not really a big problem, but today I went to deposit a check using my banks app. As usual, I turned on the assistive light on before taking the pic of the check.
Quite surprised when the app said their was no camera..
A bit later I tried it again this time without the assistive light on, it was just fine.
Just need to have better lighting without using the assistive light in the future.

[Q] Camera flash light LED behaviour ?

Hi,
I was wondering if this is normal on my Touch PRO.
When I launch "Camera" app, go to settings and tap "Flash Light", the LED turns on and lights constantly until I tap it again to disable.
Accoring to manual (and common sense) it should allow the LED to make a high powered burst when shooting photo, and not just light constantly (I thought that 'torch' apps are for that).
In few words: My Touch PRO "flash light" LED works like a torch, not like flash.
Do you get this behaviour ?
Is it normal for a LED-enabled camera phone ?
Cheers
dont have a pro yet, but from what Ive read and seen on reviews its supposed to do that. It stays on then flashes when you take a picture. No need for a torch application..
hi
I get the same, when you turn the flash on the light comes on, when you take a pic it flashes gos out for 2-3 sec then turns back on.
This is normal behaviour. It was on my Hermes as well. The LED is enabled, but not at "full" extend. The light is meant so that the camera can focus when you are taking a photo in a dark environment. At the moment you make the actual photo, the LED lights up brighter for a second.
This behavior is necessary for taking pictures. The camera app assumes that if you turn on the flash, the ambient light level is low.
The flash then lights up at a medium level to help you frame the shot on the screen (that would otherwise be too dark or too noisy to see anything).
Finally, once you actually take the picture it flashes at full power to allow for a decent exposure.
I hope it helps.
Does exist any shortcut or program to turn on the flash light without starting up the Camera app for using it as a torch?
at the moment, no.
The usual suspect, VJCandela, doesn't seem to work with the Raphael just yet.

LED camera light work like an actual camera flash?

I used to have a BB curve that also had a camera LED but it worked like a flash when I hit the button to take the picture the LED would automatically flash to take the pic..it's annoying that on my Fuze I have to manually turn on/off the led light..I was wondering if there's some software or a patch that will make the camera LED behave in this manner?
no. cannot.
it's trying to replace sun light with a match
a led is many times weaker then a real flash
which would temp blind you if it was on all the time
and you looked into it
where a led is more like whats your computer, tv, dvdplayer or the likes
got just a bit stronger but not more then 80 lumen
where a real flash can have about 5000 lumen
so sure one can program the led "flash" to turn on and close like a real
flash does but it would give no effect

euklid, I am with you. My nokia use to do that. It is a horrible design and pain to have to turn the light on each time to use it. It is the same type of light set up in my nokia as on the fuze, just that nokia knew how to use it properly. It is funny with all the mods available for the Fuze, I would have thought that would have been the first thing somebody changed. And, I thought I was the only person this aggrevated the sh!t out of.....

I don't want it as bright as a real flash of course..but the Blackberry curve has an LED also and it works well as a "flash"..the brightness of the LED the Fuze has now when u take the picture is fine for most cases, I've tested taking a few pics in a dark room and they come out decent..my point is that why is there no auto setting..so the LED goes from OFF to its max brightness as soon as you press the button to take the picture and then shut off automatically after pic is taken..a feature that the BB curve and some other phones have..I wish someone would make a mod to the camera software to do this..couldn't you use the Fuze's light sensor to determine if a flash is needed or not..
I suppose it would be possible but don't really see how one could do it with the existing software without having the source-code people would have to trail and error using a sex editor
one thing is to use a hex editor to alter stuff already in the code but to add new stuff like tieing the led to the capture itself not sure how much work it would be to change the cam app sounds like a great deal
about using the light sensor then sure but could be misleading as
the light sensor is facing the opposite direction
Any news on this? Has anyone tried to write a patch or program? Any reg hacks? I'm desperate!
No use for it.
As said before by one of us....
A real camera have better sync when taking a shot and opening flash.
Think. Our phones have a delay that is not controlled and varies depending on the auto focus and light condition, that is why they set it to be on before taking the shot.
Maybe we will see a complete PPC from HTC soon, today already exist the technology to have more than 5 MP camera with a decent flash, maybe the TouchPro 3 will have it, that is why I will stick with my Fuze unless I have to forcefully buy a new device like the TP2 in order to deduct it from my Taxes. Lets see.
Hi:
Since it is not possible for the light to flash automatically, is there any way to set it to always on (while in camera mode of course), so it does not have to be turned on each time I use the camera (I pretty much use it while out with friends in the evening, so it's pretty much always dark)?
Thanks!
Problem with that.

As far as I know.... the reason that is not set to always on is because you may damage the LED if you keep it on for a long time or X-period of time, but there is an application(hTorch) that lets you use the LED as a Flashlight, I already try to have both the camera and hTorch open at the same time and the camera failed to open. Any way when you use hTorch for too long the light start flickering.

Oh, I think I did not explain myself correctly. I don't want the light ALWAYS on. And, I do use Htorch for when I need a flashlight. What I guess I should have said is in camera mode, there is a setting to turn on the light. Is there a way for this to be activated every time the camera is opened? Not as a flash per say, just as the default setting for the light?
Thanks!

[Q] LED Flash trouble

I have read some of the troubles in Nexus S LED flash. Most of the people returned their phone and got it replaced. For my phone, I cannot do the same. Below are the details of my trouble with the LED flash.
Before, my LED flash works fine but after installing an app from Play store, an app called Tiny Flashlifht + LED by Nikolay Ananiev.
Since then my flash comes and goes. When I use it while taking a pictures, when the camera focuses on the target, the LED lights but then when taking the shot, it doesn't.
Then I tried to install another after deleting the app. An app called Brightest LED Flashlight by Surpax Technology Inc. I tried to use it but my LED only lights up a little. Like a tiny dot of light on its LED bulb. It flickers but not very bright.
So, is this hardware or a software issue. When my LED flashes while taking pictures, it is very bright though.

[APP][2.3+] Auto Brightness - app for phones without light sensor

Hey everyone,
I would like to present you app that I created to automatically adjust screen brightness. Tested on LG K8, Android 6.0. App is using front camera to determine lighting in smartphone environment. I created it because I recently changed my phone and as it turned out this one does not have light sensor, and that was cumbersome for me (day or so after using phone I faced situation when I was outside, it was very sunny and brightness was set to like 10%. It was impossible to unlock phone because I couldn't see anything on screen even if I tried to cover phone screen from that light, so phone was totally unusable!). I didn't find this kind of app on Google Play so that's why we have this thread.
FEATURES:
- automatically adjusts screen brightness
- automatically turn on device boot
- 5 frequency options
HOW TO USE:
1. Download.
1.1. [6.0+] Give permissions.
2. Choose one of available options (I recommend using medium refresh rate).
MORE INFORMATIONS:
Of course app will be improved. I want to add notification with brightness adjust bar, and improve algorithm that is determining what brightness level will be set.
FREE DOWNLOAD:
App in attachement.

THANK YOU FOR YOUR VISIT AND TIME!
Thats good for device doesnt have light sensor
Great idea... However on my k8 its a bit confused... i tried it in the office during daylight, it was quite dark instead of bright and when i covered the front camera its become bright... maybe you could put some options there to manually adjust intesity levels related to the picture brightness?
Good idea

Double tap to wake working?

I got my OP7 Pro today. Double tap to wake with screen off doesn't seem to work. Anyone know what the secret is? What am I missing?

You have to turn it on in display settings under ambient display. It's turned off by default, or at least mine was as well as pickup to show.
None of my screen off gestures are working...

I think he means the feature is broken. It's not working for a bunch of us after the day-one update. It works when it wants to. OnePlus has done nothing to fix this and I'm just about ready to get my money back. Just because it's working fine for you doesn't mean we're doing something wrong.
Yeah, lock screen gestures and single/double tap don't work on the latest update, but I believe they're working on fixing it, going through repro steps right now according to their bug page. I'm sure it'll get fixed soon, and it's not a make or break issue to me by any means.
What version are you guys on?
I'm on oxygen 9.5.5 T-mobile gm1915 not having any issues.
I came here to find this out. It's works randomly.
I don't know what I did, but it is working now. I have rebooted twice and it has persisted so +1 on the issue being random. I more wanted to know if others were experiencing the same behavior. Thanks for the replies!
Having tested this, It works randomly during low light situations, and all the time in normal/extreme light situations, such as outside in the sun or in a bright room.

Yup. This is my issue.
So my double tap to wake completely stopped working. Single tap doesn't work at all either. Not happy at all right now. Completely stopped about a half hour ago. Reboots fix nothing.
Got my phone yesterday and rooted 10 min after opening it and took update to 9.5.3. no issues at work double or single tap to wake. Used it all night setting it up and playing with it. Lit room or dark. It's been pretty consistent so far. There is an occasional time I have to tap a second time but still work on the 2nd try.
Not sure why it's random like that. Only thing I can think of is after the update... Did any of you do a factory reset? Maybe some reminant install files are causing some issues

In developer options you have to turn on oem unlocking and USB defining. Have ADB and fastboot SDK installed on PC. Then while in the bootloader type... Fastboot oem unlock.
To root you need Magisk. Follow this thread

The people here saying that it has to do with light are right. I have tested this myself. Even in fairly lit rooms, if the light isn't shining directly on the ambient light sensor, Ambient Display, double-tap-to-wake, and lift-to-wake are all completely disabled. If you shine a flashlight on the light sensor, they suddenly become available. This means that if you aren't using the phone in broad daylight or VERY well lit rooms, you have to hit the power button. Aside from the inconsistency of functionality that creates, I haven't used a power button to wake my phone in 3 years. I certainly hope they plan to fix this soon, as I'm of a mind to return the phone right now. This makes it very annoying to use on a daily basis for me. I keep my house fairly dark at night when I'm watching TV.
For some reason, OnePlus has it using the ambient light sensor rather than the proximity sensor and/or gyroscope for these features. This is not how it should work.

But it seems it's different from device to device ? Double tap to wake, the lift feature and the only one tap to activate ambient light works in all light conditions for me.
Just a thought....is there an option to avoid accidental touches when in a pocket? This might explain why it works in well lit rooms and not in dark rooms.

Yes! That reproduces the issue exactly for me. I am sure this is not the only one, but this thread on OnePlus support forums reports the issue.
https://forums.oneplus.com/threads/oneplus-7-pro-ambient-display-not-working.1034009/
You can see users reporting the problems inconsistency, and OnePlus seems to acknowledge the problem and they are "looking into it". Please go add your feedback as I am sure the more people that complain, the higher priority the bug will become.

This is where the inconsistency of the issue occurs... I am in my office which is lit the same way each day since I got the device (low light). The off screen gestures magically started working about 6 hours after I got the phone and were working up until this morning. Put the device close to a light source while the screen is dark, and you will see it wake up with no interaction with the screen. Screen off gestures work while in that lighting. I forced closed, cleared storage/cache of the Ambient display service and my phone now works in all lighting. It is almost as if the sensor becomes stuck in 'pocket mode' or something like that.
I noticed some funny:
Which cases are you using?
I was with the one in the box until now and everything worked fine (ambient display, double tap to wake, one tap to show fingerprint, wake when lifting up the phone,...). I'm with the Nylon case since a few minutes and since then the ambient display won't work anymore.
Maybe there's something related?

Yes, you're totally right! I tested it! When light is shining on the display, my tap gestures will work again. I forced closed and cleared storage of ambient display but unfortunately it doesn't change my current situation, at the moment it won't work... ?
I can confirm this as well. In dark or even dim rooms, I must use the power button to turn the screen on, in well lit environments, I can use tap to wake. Hopefully this can be fixed in an upcoming update.
