[Q] [XT1032] Flickering screen after downgrading 5.02->4.4.4 - Moto G Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Dear all,
I'm experiencing the infamous screen flickering after I downgraded from 5.0.2 to 4.4.4. Phone (Moto G XT1032) is working fine and the flickering goes away after switching the screen off and on again.
However, after a thorough search through these forums with no answer to my question, I was wondering whether anyone came up yet with a more permanent solution to tackle this problem?
I read it has something to do with the bootloader. While downgrading, I didn't flash the 4.4.4 bootloader (as told) because it could cause a hard brick of my phone. So my second question is; can anyone explain to me why the phone probably hard bricks when you try to downgrade the bootloader? Is there no workaround for this?
Thanks in advance!

Anyone?

I could flash the 4.4.4 bootloader fine when I downgraded. I believe it is required to receive the OTA update (could be wrong). The flickering is most likely caused by the 5.0.2 bootloader. So if you do want to try downgrading it that'll likely fix the problem

XT1032 - No sound from earpiece

Hey folks,
I recently noticed that I get no sound at all through the earpiece of my phone whilst in a call. The only way around this seems to be to enable loudspeaker, which works, but is far from ideal.
The issue I am faced with is that my bootloader is unlocked, and since I applied the OTA 4.4.4 firmware, I cannot re-lock the bootloader until a full 4.4.4 image is available (when attempting, I get a failed verification of the system image).
Has anyone else experienced this issue and found a way to get the earpiece working again? Alternatively, has anyone taken a device back to Tesco with this problem, having an unlocked bootloader, and gotten a replacement/repair?
Thanks in advance.

Does it work if you downgrade to 4.4.2 ?
Although this is very much sounding like a earpiece fault, happens on the Moto G.
Nope, same issue after downgrade. Just need to get it back into a position where I can get it serviced, really.

[Q] How to downgrade from 4.4.4 to 4.4.2

Im loosing my signal sometime and its freezing... :/
Is there any way without unlocking bootloader?

Hi, unfortunatley I don't think it is possible at the current point in time as the 4.4.4 update comes with a brand new partition table (On the GPE anyway but both are practicly stock), however your issues may be fixable.
When I upgraded my Moto G (4.3 to 4.4) it caused lots of wierd issues, I just backed up my data, factory reset it and it worked like clockwork. I just don't think they have got upgrading perfected yet on any O/S or phone
Not sure how it is with a locked BL.
But i was able to run 442 on a 444 gpt.bin.

It depends but on the GPE people have had issues with the partition table

Is there any permanent flickering fix? (on downgrade)

I know this probably has been debated but the threads are kinda messy, what I want to know is as of today is there any permament fix for the screen flickering on 5.0 to 4.4.4 downgrade. I know it goes away if you turn the screen off and on, that's why I'm asking about a –permanent– fix.
AFAIK that happens due to bootloader's incompatibility between the 5.0 bootloader and the 4.4.4 firmware. Is there any tested way to downgrade the bootloader?
Thanks :good:
Lol yes. Re-upgrade to lollipop.
Regarding bootloader, no such known method yet. (I don't think there will be anyway)

What about flashing roms on Lollipop? I tried CM12 and MoKee and you get the screen flickering on those as well?

[Q] At stock 5.0.2, what happens if unlock, install new recovery, custorm roms?

Hello, I am at 5.0.2 completely stock and Moto G XT1032. I want to unlock bootloader, install recovery, and custom roms because 5.0.2 is slow and laggy.
I heard about some problems if I start at 5.0.2 and doing those things, such as ripple effect, flickering ....
So what I want to ask/confirm:
1. Is doing those thing possible?
2. What are known problems if I do those things at 5.0.2?
3. Problem like ripple, flickering, unlock bootloader warning... only happen in recovery/booting or even when the phone runs?
4. Any risky things such as bootloop and cannot be fixed .....
Thank you very much.
Same Question from me
Hi,
Same Question from me too.
Please someone who has done this, please reply.
I had rooted/flashed many mobiles, but its being increasingly confusing for xt1033 with every new versions of rom / bootloaders and increasing numbers of Bootloop and HARD Bricks described in this forum.....
Please experts, please reply.
Before proceeding, check the Motorola website to make sure the bootloader can be unlocked.
Unlocking the bootloader will also wipe all data and apps from the phone; that is, it will perform a factory reset.
In my experience, phone operations are not be affected by unlocking the bootloader and installing a custom recovery except you cannot install stock OTA updates without stock recovery.

Restoring Bootloader 41.10 from Bootloader 41.1A Moto G XT-1045

Hi, I was searching around XDA and saw an upgrade to 5.1 for my Moto G XT-1045. I performed the upgrade but also needed to upgrade the bootloader due to screen flicker. So I did that. The upgrade worked but I just did not like the look or feel of 5.1 on my Moto G. I did a recovery with TWRP, but now I have the screen flicker on 4.4.4 due to having Bootloader 41.1a. I would like to go back to the OEM bootloader 41.10 which I have on my computer. But I keep getting a fail from fastboot. The phone will not allow me to downgrade the bootloader.
Has anyone successfully reinstalled an older bootloader? I know it is dangerous to be doing this but I feel I have the correct level of experience loading via fastboot.
If you know of a way to do this I would greatly appreciate the instructions.
Thanks in advance.
