I dont know if I uninstalled it or it just didnt come with the phone?! But three months ago at the mobile congress in Barcelona they showed the app couple of times, its like Google Now
I'm guessing they dropped it from the phone prior to the launch. Searched the Google Play store and didn't find it either
It's on my phone. You access it by swiping to the left past the first workspace, à la Google Now Launcher.

I've got nothing like that on my phone...and it's not in the list of apps either....is there an apk you can post? You can backup the apk using es file explorer for example.
I'll take a look. Where are those apks usually?
---------- Post added at 04:09 AM ---------- Previous post was at 03:50 AM ----------
Can't seem to find anything like "*stream*.apk" anywhere I have access to...
Alos, seeing your post in the "when do we get root" thread, swiftkey came pre-installed on my phone.
Apparently they customize the apps depending on which region you buy it in.

If you install "es file explorer" which is a free app you can use it to backup your app apk's to a folder on internal storage which you can then upload.

Judging from the news sources in the screenshot, it looks like it could be in the international version only?
I'm in France, so yeah, it could be only in some regional versions.
As for the apk, I couldn't find it even with "es file explorer"...

You went into the backup apps section of es file explorer where it shows icons of all the apps or were you still navigating the internal storage? Even if it's a system app it should appear in the list (although you might check settings to see if system apps are hidden). It's possible it's named something funky.
I was in the backup section. I didn't see anything to show system apps (neither on the page or in the settings)
I also checked with the adb shell (which is why I asked where such apps usually are).

In adb shell they'd be in /system/app. In es file explorer it default to opening to "user apps"...if you click on that pull down it gives you several choices..the one right after user apps" is "system apps".

Top of the screen says "User apps"...click on it and the other choices will appear. You can tell it's a pulldown because to the rigth of it is a shaded area. I think you'll have more success with es file explorer than /system/app as it may be named anything but es file explorer will show you a more descriptive name than the filename..
It backs it up to a folder named "Backups" on your internal storage.

You'd REALLY be better off doing this in es file explorer however our system app's matched 100% which means it might be in /data/app if they included it where the user could uninstall it if they didn't want it...however you'll also find any apps you added yourself there and obviously we will have different "favorite apps".

I DID it in the Es explorer app, but I didn't find it. And instead of sending 10 or 20 screenshots of es explorer, I sent the result of ls because I figured it was easier this way.
Could the stream app be included in the launcher maybe?

It's possible although I would expect it to be included as a standalone app in /data/app like the other apps like facetune that can be uninstalled.

Hi,
I am based in the Middle East and do not have market in my galaxy tab. I hard reset my device and installed astro file explorer to check if vending.apk is available. It does show vending.apk, but the file size is zero and more over in system/app ,all the applications have .apk & .ODEX file but vending has only .apk ,which is 0 bytes. How can i replace the vending.apk and also add vending.odex to system/app. I tried root explorer but couldnt successfully paste vending.apk file. Any help will be really appreciated.
I can help,
Just type *#272*IMEI*
A screen will show, select SGX, (just back up everything before doing this)
your device will reboot, and you will find the market icon.
Download all market apps you want.

This is the 2.2 Froyo release of the 3D Gallery with the new "peak" feature, allowing you to peak into a folder/collection of images without opening it.
Process for installing:
1. Using Root Explorer or ES File Explorer (or your preferred app), move the Gallery3D.apk (or Gallery3Dm.apk) from the /system/app folder to a backup folder.
2. Delete (if you didn't move and instead copied) the old Gallery3d.apk from the /system/app folder
3. Copy and paste this new Gallery3D to the /system/app folder and rename it to Gallery3d.apk
4. You should be able to open it up from your Launcher - otherwise you'll need to tap on the Gallery3d.apk that you copied into the /system/app folder and choose to install.
Attached are 2 pics of the new Gallery, and here is a video displaying how it works

ANYTHING that is not /mnt/sdcard (/sdcard) or /ext-sd requires ROOT access and an app that will look at ROOT
ES File explorer or root explorer
you WILL NOT see these folders by just plugging into your computer, nor will you see it with basic file managers

Make sure you have r/o where it says r/o or r/w. this way you can paste it.

I know I'm VERY! late with this answer, but I have to correct you. With zArchiver (file-explorer and zip/7-zip app) you can access androids system folders. On a S III mini I can copy the ringtones/notification-sounds or the start sound( on the micro-SD-card for example). It is possible to copy other files too, but that didn't make any sense for me. btw: phone is not rooted.
P.S. Also worked on a non-rooted Huawei Y 625 @ Android 4.4.2 . Of course I can not copy files INTO the system folder(s) but read-acces is definitely possible without root permissions.
Greetz HiddenAssassin2306
Access to /data is forbidden in Android unless you have root access.
/system is read only, and limited.
My quote from above did say you wouldn't see any of these from a computer. And the OP was trying to place files in /system, which is read only.
Is there some reason you felt the need to bring up a 3 year old thread to say I'm wrong, when in this thread, regarding the original post, I am 100% correct?
I want to install some of the apps from below, but some require to uninstall a APK in the System/App folder. I can locate them with ES File Manager however I just have delete as an option. I noticed some people were interested in installing the Stock Samsung browser on the Verizon S6 variant so I figured I'd make a little tutorial on how to do just that.
Steps:
1.) You'll need to download the stock Samsung browser files. This can be done here.
2.) Install Root Browser from the play store. (Obviously make sure you grant it root permissions)
3.) Find the Samsung browser folder you just downloaded from Mega and unzip it. The end result will be a folder named "SBrowser_3.0.38".
4.) Copy this unzipped to your /System/app folder.
--Now we need to change the permissions so that the android system can recognize these newly placed files--
5.) Set the permissions as follows: (To set the permissions, you need to press and hold on the name of the folder or file you wish to edit, then click "Permissions") See screenshots
SBrowser_3.0.38 - rwxr-xr-x
lib (folder) - rwxr-xr-x
SBrowser_3.0.38.apk - rw-r-r
arm (folder) - rwxr-xr-x
libsbrowser.so - rw-r-r
libsecv8.so - rw-r-r
libUCProxySDK.so - rw-r-r
libUCProxyWTF.so - rw-r-r
libwbs.so - rw-r-r
6.) Exit and reboot.
Once you've done this, android will boot up with the "Android is upgrading..." screen. The "Internet" apk should now be in your app drawer.
If this helped, please hit the "Thanks" button!
*Note - I have not figured out how to enable the fingerprint scan for password entry. Not sure this is possible for our variant at this time.
Troubleshooting
If the app appears in the app drawer but force closes itself when you try to open it, you are either missing some files, or you didn't set the permissions correctly. Look at my screenshots and make sure the file sizes and permissions are correct.
If no app appears in the app drawer when you reboot, you probably didn't unzip the file before you pasted it in the /system/app directory. Remember to extract it before you copy over the files! You should have copied the "SBrowser_3.0.38" folder, not the "SBrowser_S6_alemtro" zip.

Quite honestly, I was told that the smart manager is a bit of a battery hog and that an app like "Clean Master" does essentially the same thing so I never went about getting that app myself. But from looking at the directions I would just say to make sure you are putting it in the "/system/priv-app" folder instead of the "/system/app" folder and just make sure the permissions match those of other files and folders in that directory. I have heard some people have had success with it so it can be done.
Thanks for the tutorial, I didnt have a problem with setting permissions. But good to see I did it right. Any idea how to install smart manager? Put it in app/priv folder. Set permissions but not working.
