[Q] Will updating to 5.1.1 remove changes used to unlock from sprint? - LG G Flex 2

Hello everyone, new to xda and new to any advanced android fiddling in general.
I bought my Flex 2 off ebay and to my surprise it came unlocked already. All sprint would help me with the unlock is giving me the msl number which I could not find what to do with it, so I used this guide to change the node database and node journal to allow the phone to be used on tmobile. It was getting almost no reception except for about 10 seconds when I made a test phone call, then again no reception for a while, so I also used this guide to enable 4g roaming. It now calls and sends mms fine, but live in the united states and rarely travel out so I doubt that second change had any effect and I just had to wait a while to start working with tmobile. I still need to add apn to get internet working though.
My question is if I make all these changes, then update to 5.1.1, will it remove all of these changes and make it unusable with tmobile again? I know it removes root otherwise I would have no problem updating.

after update you'll loose root permission. and you'll not be able to add apn without root.
GSM will work , but CDMA wont.

Foreign Carrier Data Connection Issues [Solved]

Hey guys, I recently unlocked and rooted my Infuse 4G from ATT
Im currently living in Panama and using CLARO, I got the correct APN settings, and everything, and the internet works.. "Sometimes" I have gone to the store to obtain help incase it was something on their network, but there is nothing wrong with the network, Next I tied Replacing my sim into my friend who just got the Galaxy S 2, And it worked fine.
The problem In my case seems to be That I cannot maintain a stable Data Connection, It keeps dropping and activating back randomly, if I reboot the phone it will bring data back to it 75% of the time.. but only for a short period.. maybe 5-10 mins at most, then it disappears again.
Im just wondering if anyone that is using the Infuse 4g in a foreign country has or is experiencing a similar issue, or if anyone can explain why this is happening and if there is a way to fix it.
Im waiting for Infused to come back up to put gingerbread on the phone and hopefully fix this issue.. but I fear it will require more.
To answer my own question I found a solution and testing a second
**Just want to add when I say toggle Softkey, I mean the button to the far left at the bottom**
Solution#1 to get Infuse 4G DATA working on Claro Network Panama:
Goto phone type *#*#197328640#*#*
Goto Debug-->PHONE CONTROL-->NETWORK CONTROL-->BAND SELECTION-->GSM BANDS-->GSM 1900-->Toggle Soft Key-->back-->toggle soft key-->END
This will give you a stable EDGE connection on the Infuse 4G
I will post a possible 3G fix after I have tested the setting for more than a day.
OK so Im pretty confident I got the 3G working now, if you experience this issue of losing Data on the network in other foreign countries to USA/CANADA this might help you out aswell.
**Just want to add when I say toggle Softkey, I mean the button to the far left at the bottom**
So again goto phone dial *#*#197328640#*#*
Goto DEBUG SCREEN-->PHONE CONTROL-->HSPA CAT CONTROL-->HSDPA DISABLE-->Toggle soft key-->Back-->toggle soft key-->END
If you followed my steps to gain access to EDGE you must do this also
DEBUG SCREEN--> PHONE CONTROL --> NETWORK CONTROL -->BAND SELECTION --> AUTOMATIC --> TOGGLE SOFT KEY --> BACK--> TOGGLE SOFT KEY --> END
so that you can access the other bands for 3G
Hope this helps people.
Also Would like to Add that Im using INFUSED v2.0.4 http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1220088
and I switched to the ROGERS MODEM http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1173704
With these settings applied.
The other way around this is if you install the Infused ROM it'll give you the option to manually lock to the network. The AT&T ROM has ATT roaming partner preference built in... super annoying, but is what it is. I had issues where putting in a foreign SIM I could only attach to networks AT&T had roaming agreeements with even though it wasn't an ATT sim and the non-ATT stock ROM solved it for me.
I saw network locking also in the debug menu, is that what you are talking about?
I cannot find any network locking within the normal menus.. if there is could you guide me to it please.
well I tried the lock via the debug menu.. and did not work when I enabled HSDPA.. maybe the issue isnt a foreign carrier issue or combination of a foreign carrier or just the fact that its a carrier that offer 4G but only on contract.
I was speaking to a friend last night, and he said when he was in the US he was experiencing a similar problem with ATT and the people at ATT said the phone will experience these issues on networks that have the ability of 4G or the HSDPA+ higher speeds since we know that its not real 4G.. so the phone attempts to connect or do whatever it does to obtain those higher speeds of HSDPA+, but is being refused by the network because you need to be on contract or have it enabled.. which then in turn causes it to disconnect all together from the data network.
So it made sense to disable to the HSDPA in the scenario.. I might add that by doing this on CLARO you do not get the full 3G experience its slower from about 2Mbit down to .50 Mbit but its still better than edge. and the HSUPA works fine with a 2Mbit Upload.
Im going to obtain a contracted SIM today with 4G enabled.. and remove all the steps I listed above to confirm that this is actually case.
I will post my results when I get the chip.

[Q] issue with internet sharing

Hi,
I have htc radar 4g
Yesterday I popped in att sim card to unlock my phone and I have been using it for half a day. I used the htc connection setup to get mms working and internet.
After half a day i switched to tmobile sim card and I used the htc connection setup again to set setting to tmobile
Now I can't use internet sharing on my phone
When I try to turn it on i get:
"Connection not shared
To enable tethering on this device, go to att.com/mywireless or dial 611"
Anyone knows how to get rid of it?
I use tmobile prepaid and this has been working before I unlocked my phone and used atts sim card...
any help appreciated!
Give it a couple days to re-provision the Internet Sharing restriction (shouldn't take more than about 24 hours). AT&T wants people to pay extra for tethering, and your phone must have picked up that restriction while it was on their network. It *should* go away on its own. Try rebooting the phone again if it sticks around.
If you were on a slightly older phone, I'd tell you haw to bypass the restriction entirely, but unfortunately we don't yet have a way to provision custom provxml files on the Radar (or other HTC gen2 phones).
will see,
i will give it a time to saturday
but this is what i did
1. made a backup on my mac
2 restored to factory settings
3. checkked ineternet sharing
it works fine
4. restored my backup
5 sharing not working
so i will wait until saturday/sunday and see
I have the exact same issue. Any solution? I'm overseas and can't use the internet tethering function which is one reason I bought this phone!

[Q] Network Unavailable Emergency Calls Only

Hello Everyone,
I got my first android phone this weekend, a Samsung Galaxy S2 I9100 (not I1900G, or any other variant, just plain old I9100) which was locked to T-mobile UK.
After doing a bit of reading and trying out 3 different methods for rooting, CF-root, insecure kernel, and finally the method described here for rooting stock ICS firmware without flashing an insecure kernel by Rachmat3:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1501719
After rooting method #2 (flash insecure kernel, run S2-root on phone) I ran chainfire's [root] Galaxy S2 SIM Unlock, this didn't work, so I ran Galaxy_S Unlock and it worked. At this stage I could use my phone for calls and sms though my SIM's network provider (virgin), and I later figured out how to get virgin to send me a configuration message to set up the APN settings, and I could then use 3G data to browse the web, etc...
However, I lost root when I flashed a secure kernel, and updated the firmware to XWLP7 from the intratech list of official kernels & firmwares:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1075278
Hence why I used Rachmat3's method #3 to regain root access, which worked like a charm.
However, I then lost the ability to make calls, send SMS and the phone refused to find the virgin network! Disaster! 3G still worked fine for data, and when I tried my sim card in my old phone I could still make calls and it found the virgin network immediately. I tried my gf's virgin sim in the SGS2 and it could find the virgin network but wouldn't connect any calls, it kept saying "unable to connect, try again later".
After reading around, I suspect that this may be a modem problem, can anyone confirm or deny this? I have the modem that came with intratech's XWLP7 firmware, which I believe is XXLPS. Can anyone recommend which modem I should try?
I have a real imei number, I tried flashing the CPW version of the XWLP7 rom instead of the XEU one, no luck, I tried a few other things that I can't remember now as it's first thing in the morning at work!
Any help, suggestions, or direction would be greatly appreciated, I was almost there on my own - fell at the last hurdle!
No-one else has this problem?
I've tried my sim card in it again this evening, I am unable to select virgin or Virgin from the network providers, but all other providers are there, o2, etc...
What's perculiar, is that when I use my gf's sim, both virgin and Virgin and all other providers are present, however, even with this sim, I still cannot make calls, even though it connects to the network, what the heck!?!
I've tried using different modems, no help.
Please anyone, any ideas?
I've contacted virgin this evening, they say the imei code isn't on their blacklist, I can't contact t-mobile until tomorrow, but I will ring them tomorrow and find out if they've blacklisted the imei for some reason.
Help!!
Any ideas, anyone else had similar problems?
Plz help!
I am looking forward to anyone's help about this question!
Hi all,
Just found out that the IMEI has been listed as lost or stolen by t-mobile. In contact with original owner to try and rectify the problem.
Anyone else having this issue, it's likely the same problem, contact the original carrier and ask to check their IMEI blacklist.
On a related note, does this mean that the previous owner of every second hand phone that is sold can just ring up their old provider and blacklist that IMEI whenever they want?
Seems like a bit of a massive oversight if you ask me... Surely there must be a way to transfer ownership of the IMEI number to a new owner?

will an HTC 7 Pro work with Page Plus?

I am from the Android world, zero experience with WP7 and I want to buy this exact phone and possibly flash a custom ROM
and the goal is to get this to work on Page Plus (Verizon MVNO) and NOT Sprint
the phone is currently set up for C-Spire - a smaller CDMA carrier in Mississippi (formerly Cellular South)
I have access to CDMA workshop and other CDMA tools, such as qpst
I need Verizon coverage and a REAL keyboard at a cheap price ($55/month) and this looks like it could be the ticket!
I had the same question and found a post from bing searches with someone claiming to have succeeded in activating it on Page Plus. Unfortunately the person never really detailed how he did it.
I'd still like to know how it can be done.
The Arrive can be flashed to P+. I'm using one on it. You'll need the paid CDMAWS, not the hacked version.
Also, before you do this, remember that the 3G will be intermittent. The reason for this is that you cannot upload the authentication file to the phone's file system, so the phone never gets true 3G, it cycles between connecting and 1XRTT. To make this work properly, you'll need to have a ROM loaded that's a direct port from the HTC Trophy, or an Arrive ROM that has the Verizon operator package in it. I've yet to learn how to do this, but as time permits, I'll figure it out. I've got a few requests in to ansar and leadpoizon, two ROM Chefs that are heavily involved in GOLD_C (our phone's) development here.
Here's what I did:
1. Put the phone in Diag Mode, using ##MFG# on the phone dialer and connect to CDMAWS.
2. Obtain your MSL/SPC by using the HTC Method, then write it to 000000.
3. Program the phone using CDMAWS just as you would an android device; put in MIN, MDN and set your data settings to your#@vzw3g.com.
4. Load a modded PRL to put the phone on Verizon's Towers, and lose the roam triangle. (Attached)
5. Call P+ and give them the MEID of the Arrive. They'll tell you to do *22890, but do NOT do it.
6. Once they say it's active, make a test call, and enjoy your Arrive.
The steps above will give you voice calls, SMS, and spotty 3G. MMS will not work, unless you hack the registry of the phone. The phone works great with WiFi, though.
If you're brave, try forcing the phone into 1X by finding a non-EvDo PRL. You'll be showing that you're roaming, but it may yield better data results. If you do set 1X though, be sure to set MIP type (in CDMAWS) to Simple IP.
Post here w/ questions, if you have any...

[Q] Help With Uptodate Verizon SIII

Hello
I have a Verizon Samsung Galaxy SIII (I535) with the Android 4.4.2 and the VRUDNE1 Build (I535OYUDNE1 Baseband). I got the Data and voice Roaming Package when I went to Europe. The voice part worked fine but the Data roaming sucked big time. Since you only get 100 MB (at 3G only), you follow their advise to reduce mobile data. Well I could not get reliable Internet access, even if I put the phone back up to full mobile data. I was using it with Maps, Yelp and TripAdvisor .
I then decided to buy an Internet-only SIM card in Germany, I could now get Internet access but I got the stupid message about the SIM card not being valid and the APN data had to be manually entered even when putting back the Verizon SIM card, which was a pain.
Now the phone is out of contract and not used with Verizon. I want to make it as my travel phone and be able to automatically load APN data and get rid of the SIM card message.
I see a couple of websites that claim that there are new easier methods to root the phone using towelroot.
Does anyone knows if towelroot will work with my current SIII?

Towelroot will work with an i535 on NE1, I bought a used, unrooted device a month ago and successfully rooted it. But, rooting will not automatically change APNs when you swap sims, I don't think.

No, but they I can use Apps that have the APN data but require root access. The other thing that would be nice is getting the RESET APN activated but not critical.
I had the impression that some of the SIM cards had a utility (or done through the activation) to set the APN data automatically. Need to test it thought

I've never changed SIMs, so I don't know if they have such a utility. I recall some of the the US pre-paid carriers supplying their APN settings packaged with the card for users to set. (StraightTalk comes to mind.) Since haven't needed to change APNs I don't know about the Apps you mentioned either.
Looks like I should have confirmed Towelroot working and not added any additional comment, you seem to have the rest worked out. BTW, let me know if you don't have a working copy of TowelRoot.
