NOTE: If you upgrade to this version, then decide you WANT ROOT and DOWNGRADE to 5.0.2, DO NOT leave phone plugged in after it reboots during the flash around 80% or so. Doing this will result in a HARD BRICK! YOU HAVE BEEN WARNED!
Received official Sprint 5.1.1 OTA for LS996 Flex 2! Uploading to Google Drive right now, will post link after completion!

You must be running the original stock build of Android 5.0.1 (TOT Flash Files)
To install this file simply copy to the root directory of your SD card, then reboot into the bootloader.
If you have adb installed, run "adb reboot bootloader"
If you do not, power the device off, and hold Volume Down and Power buttons together to turn the device on. After about 5 seconds, you will see the recovery mode screen.
Now, highlight "apply update from sdcard"
Use your power button to select that option.
Select the "update.zip" from the list
Enjoy!

There are 2 methods for flashing LG Phones, tot or kdz and you must use the program.
I opened up my guide earlier: http://forum.xda-developers.com/g-flex2/general/guide-lg-g-flex-2-stock-firmware-to-t3037593
LG flashtool wants me to sign in
Also, since the file provided isn't TOT how do I install it. I got around signing in to lgflash

Reboot recovery and apply update by side load
INSTALL INSTRUCTIONS!!!
1. Install LG Flex 2 Drivers.
2. Download ADB version 1.0.32 or later.
3. Download update.zip and put it in the ADB folder with the ADB files.
4. Make sure USB Debugging is enabled on your phone.
5. Boot into recovery (power+vol down) and go to update from sideload (second option)
6. Open Command Prompt as Admin.
7. Cd to the ADB folder
-Example: "cd C:\Users\'Me\Desktop\ADB
8. Enter command "adb sideload update.zip"
9. Wait for it to finish and reboot!
This update is way faster than 5.0.1. It fixes all of the problems I had before! This thing flies!

I do all my flashing on windows 7 64bit without any problem.
Ditto. I do all my dirty deeds on 64-bit Windows 7. You may also want a quick way in; Grab OS_Hacking's BIOS tool (don't flash Gingerbread bootloader - just the BIOS and your choice of recovery softwares), and then flash the flashable Superuser zip (ARM version) - just copy Superuser zip onto phone first before flashing unlocked BIOS and recovery so you can do away with that quickly.
And, do one thing first; Kill the UAC in Windows 7 - it usually cause problems.

Follow this guide at section "How to root" (first post) step by step, be sure to write a GB recovery first and not write the GB bootloader (if you did that you can write the ICS bootloader again from OS_Hacking's tool), reboot and then install Su_Bbox_1.20.2_gazhead_signed.zip via recovery, reboot and check for "SuperUser" app.
You can restore the original bootloader and recovery flashing Stock_ICS_btldr-recov.zip at the end but is not mandatory.

I'm rooted with the stock ROM, and my bootloader is unlocked using the Motorola website.
What's the easiest and effective way to upgrade to the newest (Jellybean) OTA update?
Also, I forgot I had rooted because I installed the OTA and tried to apply it but of course it failed.
Now when I start my phone up...it will load then a couple seconds later, it shuts down and boots into CWM.
What can I do?
Easiest way at this point is probably to use RSD Lite and wipe the phone with one of the FXZ's.
Then wait for the OTA and flash it.
You can't flash OTA's on aftermarket recoveries. You have to be on stock recovery to take the OTA......
Edit - link for reference.

It's pretty straightforward IMHO. The only "wrinkle" is having to edit the .XML files - which is noted int he first post.

You're on Sprint right? I'd grab the latest Sprint FXZ, which is currently:

Yea, RSD should reboot your phone into fastboot mode and start flashing.
If it doesn't, you might have to enable adb... I can't remember as I always have adb setup/enabled

Great link skillrax.
RSD l ite is really easy. You need to have fastboot installed on the PC/phone and you need to enable debugging. Then its as easy as 3 steps. Find the file, choose flash. Forget the 3rd step.... Its really easy.

Yea, I don't know what the heck I was thinking earlier... RSD uses fastboot, so you will need adb/fastboot working in order to utilize RSD.
Other than editing that XML file and getting fastboot working, RSD is quite simple to use
Hey y'all. I was going to go back to one of my early backups on the stock ICS and then take the OTA JB update but my backup from January keeps loading my most recent twisted asanti backup instead. Needless to say, my JB update keeps failing saying signature verification failed. Any quick fix or should I just push it via RSD at work tomorrow?

Sounds like you don't have the drivers. Go to motorola.com and make sure you have the latest / correct drivers. RSD is a moto program so with Moto drivers and RSD lite you should have no problem. You also need to have fastboot on both your phone and the computer.
Then you may need an xml editor to remove those files (I have to every time) and after that its really easy.
Open RSD Lite
Connect Phone
Select File
Decompress and Flash

Hi guys,
I run rooted unlocked Nexus 5 with CM11. I wanted to update the ROM but it failed - I read a bit and found out that it is due to old bootloader version. I would like to update it but I'm not a friend with ADB and stuff.... It would be great to use the most easiest way. I got OTA update notification but have no idea what it does - will it unroot the phone? will I lose CM11 ROM? Just trying to figure out what backups and steps shall I do to update my ROM. How shall I continue from here?
Thanks a bunch!

You have a custom recovery installed, right? Flash the bootloader zip via recovery. However, you need to get familiar with adb/fastboot as you're gonna need them if you ever find yourself in a tight situation to fix your device.
Open the "must read" thread linked in my signature and find the thread which has all the info about adb and fastboot.

You don't need to. Just boot into fastboot, connect to PC, fastboot flash bootloader name_of_file.img, reboot, done
it's easy you must become familiar with fastboot and add the second you aren't it will come back to haunt you

What I was able to do was use an older version of Kingroot, i think it was 4.6.5 or something like that. It took me a few tries with the app until it finally rooted. Then I downloaded flashify from the play store and flashed TWRP. Booted into recovery and installed superSU to replace Kingroot.
If that version doesnt work, keep searching/using different versions to see if any of them work and let me know what worked. I had to kdz back to stock and stupidly took the update to 20c and am now trying to re-root mine.

My computer, Windows 10, doesn't like ADB and Fastboot for some reason. I will make a VM of Windows 7 to try this method on.

Is it seeing your Stylo at all?
I had a similar problem and had to change usb cords and then it finally worked.
I stupidly tried to use Chainfires root method on my pixel by flashing boot-to-root.img. I am now stuck in a bootloop and I have no idea how to fix it. I can get into the fastboot page I think it is called by holding the volume down and power buttom. How can I fix this? Sorry if it is a dumb question. I tried using adb but don't know how it works and I get the error 'error: device '(null)' not found' when trying to do 'adb reboot bootloader'.
I really appreciate if anyone can help me. I am freaking out
Edit: CHECK THE COMMENTS FOR SOLUTION

Try downloading the stock image and installing that from fastboot. If you are on a Verizon one and on 7.1.1 you are out of luck for root if you bootloader isn't unlocked.

Ok, stop freaking, this is very fixable. Assuming you have the Google version, or the Verizon version unlocked.
Short answer, we are going to get it into fastboot mode and we are going to flash you back to stock and probably save your data.
First, we need to make sure you have the correct version of Fastboot/ADB. It must be from GOOGLE.
https://developer.android.com/studio/releases/platform-tools.html
Unzip that onto a spot on your desktop.
Then go here and download the latest image for the Pixel. I am assuming you are in the US, get 7.1.1 (NOF26V, Feb 2017) for the Pixel.
https://developers.google.com/android/images#sailfish
Unzip that into a the Platform folder you made above with the fastboot tools. When you are all done it should look like the picture below. The highlighted items are the items that came from the Factory Image you extracted in step two. Everything else is from the platform tools.
Now RIGHT click 'flash-all.bat' and edit it. Near the end...look for the -w and take it out and save it. Removing that is what is going to save your data.
Power down your phone, restart it in bootloader mode. Power and Vol Down. Connect it to your computer and then double click 'flash-all.bat'.
That will take you back to stock unlocked and all your data and settings will be there.
Get past that and let us know. Then we will get you properly rooted. Yea, you used the wrong root process.
I love you <3
Thank you so much. I stupidly was trying to flash a file that wasn't an image file! I really appreciate your help man I don't know what I'd do if it wasn't for you.

No thank you! I figured that out pretty quickly with TWRP and I am happily rooted now Quite a different process after jailbreaking iOS for 8 years. Thanks for your help!

Glad to see you are still out there @Misterxtc
Seems like you've been a mainstay almost everywhere I've been and I've relied on your threads and guides for a long time.

Do you have a link to rooting with TWRP? I've found several rooting posts but most talk about rooting via fastboot.
Thanks!

No link handy, but here is how I do it. And yes, it is via fastboot, only way I know of at this point.
Download 2.7.9 SR3 SuperUser and copy it to your phone.
https://forum.xda-developers.com/apps/supersu/2014-09-02-supersu-v2-05-t2868133
Download TWRP RC1 and copy it to your fastboot folder.
https://forum.xda-developers.com/pixel-xl/development/twrp-alpha1-pixel-devices-t3500312
Using other versions than above will bootloop you. Reboot the phone into bootloader mode. Power and Vol down.
fastboot BOOT twrpFilename.img Where twrpfilename.img is the name of the TWRP file you just downloaded. Note is says boot in the command, not flash.
That will boot the phone into TWRP. Select Install and install the SU zip you copied to the phone above. And reboot the phone, done.
Thanks! That worked.
I need help with unlocking bootloader and rooting phone

I have completed the steps that you listed however the phone did not do a thing. Is it not possible to unlock the bootloader on 7.1.2? Am I doing something wrong? I can elaborate more if you need.

If it is a Verizon phone, no you can't unlock it. If it is a Google phone to unlock...below is a decent link on how to. Except use the ADB Fastboot tools I link to in the third post of this thread.
https://android.gadgethacks.com/how-to/unlock-bootloader-your-google-pixel-pixel-xl-0174627/
And be aware, when you unlock it...it will wipe all the data on your phone.
My pixel (stock, not rooted) is boot looping after the May OTA updates. Google support says to take it back to the store as it's still under warranty. Would the above fix work for my phone? Is it worth it, or should I just get a new one? This is already my second pixel as the first one died abruptly after 3 months.

Is the bootloader unlocked? If so I would certainly try flashing stock first. It can't hurt, and moments ago my Nexus 6 that I keep for backup was doing the same thing after the OTA. I just reflashed stock and it is fine now.

I think so, but am not 100% sure. Was bought unlocked from a retail shop. (Sorry, am a bit of a newb!)
So please let me understand
I am on 7.1.2 april (N2G47E), and if I want to update to may N2G47O the steps are:
- sideload ota
- flash new bootloader from may factory image
- twrp RC1 and supersu 2.79 sr3
Does this work or do I have to make something different?
