[Q] App for scheduled shutdown / boot of android phone? - General Questions and Answers

Hey,
I'm looking for an app with which I can set schedules for my to shutdown and boot up. E.g. shutdown at 2100 boot at 0700, etc..
All I could find so far is this very dated article:
http://smallbusiness.chron.com/make-android-phone-boot-certain-time-33501.html
and I couldn't find any of the apps mentioned there...
So is this even possible, does someone know any apps?
TIA
PS:
I'm on rooted Sony Xperia Z3 Compact on Kitkat 4.4.4. with fw 5.77.

Shutting down... easy peasy https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=at.specsoft.shutdowntimertrial&hl=en
Booting up... eh... simplified: You must have low level support (like kernel low) and it is just too much trouble setting up. You could however try to set up an alarm because on some phones alarms turn on the phone if it is off. Additionally you can set the alarm to a silent ringtone so it doesn't wake you up.

This one doesn't feature a real schedule, you would have to set it up each day again...

Hmm, thats really a pitty and a serious regression over "not-so-smart-phones".
Also why? I even believe my former desktop pc (from 2001) was able to set up times in the bios when to start...

Well, Android does have this feature, I have it on my old phone. You can set up a schedule to turn off and on the phone.
The BIOS in a PC is easly accessible, unlike on Android. the BIOS would be the kernel and the bootloader and you don't have easy GUI acess to them like you have on a computer BIOS. The kernel is the only thing running while the phone is off and if it doesn't have a feature of powering the phone on at a specefic time / event it is not going to happend.

Can't help you there.

You can probably use Tasker to set times to toggle Airplane mode and/or power saving mode. It won't be off, obviously, but it'll be the nearest thing to it.

Quiet Hours-like solution for Stock Z3?

I'm not at the point where I'm considering putting another ROM on my shiny (literally!) new Z3, but the biggest thing I miss from Slimroms is the apparent total lack of Quiet Hours or anything like it. (In case you don't know, it lets you prevent the phone from making a noise, vibrating, lighting up etc when an incoming text, phone call etc occurs). Apparently, when I'm sleeping I'm always one piece of spam, or an alert that someone's replied to one of my posts here, from being woken up. And i'm not desperate to mute my phone because then i'll miss (potentially) important phone calls.
How are you dealing with this?

there is lots of planner/tasker app in play store for you to manage almost everything you want
:good:
Does the Z3 have the "Smart Connect" app? If so there are automation options there. For example, you can set it to go to complete silent, start the alarm and clock app IF the phone is plugged in and it is between x and y hours.
Smart connect set new event based on time, set time start, volume off, vibrate off, set end time volume up, vibrate on.

Smart connect should work fine, but if you want choices I use Agent and it works great.
Got what you need right here:

Been using this on my Galaxy S3 for a long time before I upgraded to the Z3. Works great, and is very very low resources. I use it to set my phone to silent at work automatically.

Just tried it, but it's no good because I can't silence notifications without silencing incoming phone calls at the same time. The app suggests what I want isn't possible without a custom rom.
Have a look at this absolute fantastic app: https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.nightskeeper
This is the best quite hours solution in Play Store imo and should be exactly what you need. btw you can define whitelists and the app has an excellent emergency function: when someone calls e.g. more than three times in 5 minutes, the app lets the phone ring although quite hours are activated

Using this for now. Limited but at least it works. Using it to turn off data and sound so it's basically like turning the power off.

[Q] Newbie help with sound issue

Hi everyone, and thanks in advance if you can help. I need my phone to be silent during daytime meetings and at night. I've installed an app which should take care of this. However I still get sound notifications. I'm assuming it's the "interruptions" feature over riding the app as I see the star icon displayed. Is there anything I can do to stop this? It's really annoying me. Thank you so much for your assistance.

Hit the volume button one so the sounds mode dialogue pops up onto your screen. You'll see three options, All, Priority, and None. Select None.

Hello Heisenberg and thank you for getting back to me. I've seen the option you describe, but I wanted something that would work with my calendar and automatically mute during events - plus at night time and then revert back to normal. Every time the app I'm using modifies the sound profiles, the star icon appears and lets notifications through. I think I'd prefer to disable "interruptions" and use the app full time as it's far more efficient and versatile. Do you know if it's possible? Sadly, I can't find a way to make the phone work in the way I want it to - do you have any other thoughts please?

I don't understand why you need an app. I just use profiles and adjust the sound mode manually, it's easy enough.

Ah - I tried that and couldn't find a way to make it happen using my location, an app will do it all automatically during the day based on my calendar and also at night. Am I missing something here?? Forgive me if I sound dim but I'm getting very fed up having to constantly mess around with the phone settings because it seems to override the app settings. What happened to "quiet hours"??

[solved] #PainInTheAss - Mysteriously switch to Vibrator mode every X-hours

Since a couple of weeks, my OPO switch itself to vibrate-mode, and I have no clue where it's coming from.
Tasker, Locale and such apps have been deleted.
Profiles are deactivated.
But still... Even when I manually switch on sound notification and ringtone, it goes back to vibrate mode after a while.
I've reviewed every settings that could be involved with that, but I still don't find a solution.
Is this a known bug ?
Is there a setting I missed ?
I couldn't say, but any help is welcome (I'm currently looking for a job, I need to hear my phone and not missing any call...)
Thx by advance !

I kept the original rom (Cyanogen) and it's updated...
I want to re-roll this phone for multiple reasons but I still keep faith in the fact that I don't need to reflash anything in order to have a phone actually ringing

You sure you haven't set up CM profiles in settings? Does this happen at specific TIMES (eg. 2PM every afternoon) or at specific INTERVALS (eg. 2 hours after you manually enabled ringer)?

As I said in the original post, Profiles are deactivated + Tasker and such apps are deleted.
I still don't get if it happens at specific time (ie: every day at 2 pm), or after a specific delay (ie : 2 hours after I switch the ringtone back).
It seems to be the second option, but I lack a good monitor app that could brings me some intel about what's happening on my phone and what triggers events

Thx.. I'm going to digg about logcat then (I see what it is but I never use that).
Is there any way to look into a logcat (or other log-stuff) by searching events (or text) instead of time-stamp ?
Is there any app or software that helps digging this full load of data ?
I hate myself right now... I'm using MyPhoneExplorer and there is a setting to switch your phone ringtone while connected to a known-wifi.
And yes, I have activated this settings myself
In a word, when you don't find a solution on XDA or any forum, the bug is probably you...

soyes 7s mini phone- How to disable "assist touch" ? gets turned on each boot
I got a cheap mini phone for dog walks,
soyes 7s
got it rooted and works fine, but there is an assist touch settings that enables a floating button after each boot. I can disable it in accessibility settings, but it is enabled again after a restart.
I have looked in the files in root, but have not found anything yet that might enable this setting each boot.
Now created a task in macrodroid with autoinput that disables it with a button.
Any slight chance of any help regarding a setting that is activated each boot?
I’d like to know this too. I’d love to see someone create a custom rom for this cool little phone. I love it.
have not found a solution, but with macrodroid and autoinput made it toggle the setting. So after unlock the settings screen is opened then toggled. Not pretty.
Also installed xposed on it.
Very cool little phone. Perfect with a bt earpiece and audify that reads incoming sms-email and caller name. Used Vphone S8 before, but this android thing is better and not much bigger.
Thanks for that. It’s fun with angry birds too lol. I’m really surprised the geeks haven’t jumped all over this. Low cost of entry and super cool and useful toy. You wanna meet girls, take this out on an elevator when they are all messing with their phones lol. I have mine set up to look like an iphone and it’s ace. Even found a silver Apple logo for the back on eBay. It’s a conversation starter. Way more capable than an Apple Watch lol
Hi. I just received mine. I bought to use in the same reason as you did. I saw that the phone is consuming a lot of battery in idle. I tried to root but I couldn't. With tools do you used to root yours? Thanks a lot.

Awesome! Now it is working. Thanks a lot! I just installed xposed and now i am going to change some things and see if i can improve my battery. I will come back latter!
I installed the xposed installer and just installed the framework it suggested. arm7I.
OK My device is rooted. What is xposed? How does it work? I’m new to android. I’ve downloaded it from the App Store but can’t make it do anything. What tweaks work best and how do I get them installed?
I'd like to be able to tweak the home button functionality to be able to mimic iOS and activate voice search etc.
I have this phone too lovely little phone i have installed holo launcher and dropped the dpi down to 130dpi looks awesome now.The only thing is we need to find out what’s drawing the battery so fast in general use.The phone itself sleeps like a baby pretty good in standby anyone have any ideas. And would be nice if we can get a sub forum going for this device as i think its getting very popular.

I don’t know about that because it does a good job at standby time something seems to be draining it when in use may be some app or background process.I am sure we have plenty of people here with the know how to get it running better. I know this phone has been selling like hot cakes and a growing interest in the phone because it so well built and does not look so cheap and decent performance for that crazy size of it.Also i have been testing hotspot on this phone and the battery life is amazing when using hotspot to my ipad very impressed definitely a very handy feature of this phone.
Mine is also changed to 130dpi, looks much better now. That sim tray is a work of art lol.
yes, this phone is very snappy for the size. Feels faster than the two android watches I have, that are not used. Needed something that can be tucked away connected with bt and a voice notifier.
The xposed module "app settings" is good to tweak certain apps dpi and font size. I think my overall dpi is 120-130.
Also setcpu profiles to save when screen off and 900mhz screen on, only max cpu with incoming calls. Then greenify and amplify.
For me it last 2 days of dog walks, or 4-5 hours on connected to bt with a few short calls.
Do you have any issues with app icons moving around changing locations? I’m using an IPhone X launcher.
no, but i use Nova launcher. Not paid much attention, mainly for accepting incoming calls

Phone vibrates when I pick it up.

Well, as the title says, everytime I pick up my phone I feel a little vibration (and no, I don't have the "smart alert" thing turned on). I tried not to be worried about it but I can't not notice it. Any ideas?

May be you guys should try turning off the setting and restart, if that doesnt solve the problem go to recovery mode and clear cache. Let us know if any of that works.
On a side note: I have been facing weird ass issues with this phone just today my phone wont go to mute by using volume key while receiving a call. Like someone calls you and your phone is ringing, you just want to silence the ringtone you can use volume key (Press once), Flip the phone or put your palm over it (If you have the settings on). I tried multiple restarts and switched on and off the settings many times. It was fixed when i restarted my phone to download mode (This happened by mistake i wanted to go to recovery) anyhow that fixed it.

Also try clearing system cache in the boot menu.

That can be a daunting task but sort of fun because you can streamline your notification settings as you do so.

If they catch it. Consider which sensors and operation triggers it, cause and effect, to narrow it down.
Playing with Android is fun... Android witch hunts are how you really learn about Android's gooey layer tricks.
Google searches on older Notes and parallel Samsung models can turn up answers many times.
This model is too recent; so not near as much online troubleshooting info. Google searches encompass threads on this forum as well so it can be a good way to find the needle in the Android stack. Do not time limit searches.
On my 10+ with it's baffling bt poor audio I found the answer with something written about the N9.
Many of these issues are long standing.
Samsung finally fixed the bt settings issue in a Wearables update. That took years.
Only persistence is omnipotent...
I figured that out by chance..
It's the edge-compass app
Just delete it from edge apps and it'll go away.. cheers

Well, I've checked all that and nothing, I don't even have the compass edge panel. But I think I'm able to replicate the issue, it mostly happens when my phone is face down on a surface and I pick it up and turn it to me, I don't have a case on it yet and I'm starting to think that it might have something to do with the edge screen but so far no luck
Use good lock. It has a module to detect vibrations and tell you what they are

Yeah, I installed it yesterday. But no vibrations are registered there so honestly I don't even know what to think now.

It does suck some battery life though. It's one of the features I disable on my 10+ mostly because I find it annoying.
It's cool though how much you can customize notification behavior; one of the biggest reasons to go with Samsung is customization.
I play around with Settings a lot.. never crashed a load doing it. It's just occasionally gets time consuming to sort it out.
