[Q] Apps safe to disable from stock ROM (no root) - Galaxy S6 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Does anyone have a list of apps safe to disable on stock S6 Android 5.0.2? I've found some on the internet and on the forum, but nothing specifically for Samsung/TouchWiz and nothing for Android 5.
Thanks

I disabled loads when I first got my S6. After having problems when trying to call people, the first time I press call it went straight back to dialer, I factory reset and declined to disable anything barring the google apps I don't want, and my phone has the same RAM and battery life as it did when I disabled everything.
I would recommend leaving it stock as it doesn't affect battery or performance or RAM.

I disabled email, music, and internet without any issues. There might be a couple more but I don't remember.
I disabled these because I use gmail, Google music, and chrome, respectively.

Android OS Battery Drain

I started my Galaxy S6 920I battery issues a long time ago and couldn't find any help without rooting or tripping knox, so here's how I went back to a normal state. I want to share my experience with you guys and maybe help someone who's desperate like me.
UPDATE: 5.1.1 India OTA came 2 days ago and my problem is solved now. No more deep sleep isues.
device: 920I on Stock 5.1.1 India (G920IDVU2COF8), Brazil on VIVO network.
problem: "Android OS" process show up eating almost 50% of my battery, even on idle. I couldn't even get through the day. If I went to sleep and just left my phone alone with wifi, data, gps off and all apps closed, I would wake up with a dead phone.
conditions: I didn't want to void Knox since I think I can still use my warranty for something, even though Samsung offers a pretty lame service here in Brazil.
background: I've read basically everything regarding this subject and nothing seemed to work for me. Wiping cache, factory resetting, nothing.
method:
STEP 1: ERASING IT ALL
My phone came with stock 5.0.2 and I updated to 5.1.1 (Trinidad and Tobago) via Odin hoping it would solve my problems. It didn't, at all.
I decided to do a full wipe and flash 5.1.1 India just to see if the problem was relying on the ROM itself
When my phone started, I added my google account, normal setup, and then started disabling the useless Samsung features like motion gestures and Wifi always scanning
I DID NOT download any app from the play store, I decided to get them back gradually in order to try to find the problem.
I started disabling every app I though it was safe to to so. Here's the list: ANTT Radio Service, ANT + Plugins Service, Brefing, Dictionary, Drive, Dropbox, Facebook, Galaxy Apps, Galaxy Apps Widget, Google Play Books, Google Play Games, Google Play Movies & TV, Google Play Newsstand, Google +, Hancom Office Viewer, Instagram, Live Weather, Memo, Messages, Messenger, OneDrive, OneNote, Peel Smart Remote, S Beam, S Health, S Planner, S Voice, Samsung Galaxy, Samsung Push Service, Skype, Hangouts
I Kept basically Whatsapp, Hangouts, Play Music, Gmail and updated them through Play Store
Downloaded Google Keyboard since I hate the samsung one
Then I went to sleep with 15% battery. Woke up with 15% battery. Good job.
STEP 2: PUTTING INTO TEST
I woke up and charged the phone until 100%. Got our of home, wifi and data off.
I commuted for 60 minutes while listening to cached Play Music songs. Made some calls. Turned data on, used some whatsapp. Battery still on 94% at the end. Seemed ok.
When I arrived at work, I decided to enable instagram and Hangouts back and check on it again. My battery was on 92%.
1 hour later, my battery was 80% and "Android OS" was at the top of draining list again. Nightmare.
Uninstalled instagram. 1 hour later I had a drop of 3% without touching the phone. Android OS still on the top.
Uninstalled Hangouts and enabled default samsung Messages app. Answered some whatsapp chats and left the phone sleeping, didn't touch it. 1 hour later, battery dropped by 2% with Android OS on top.
Restarted and wiped cache. Things went back to normal.
NEXT STEPS
It seems like there's some serious bug with the apps, but somehow there's s System bug that needs to be sweeped with a cache wiping. That's the continuous process I need to be doing on regular basis.
I wonder, would it be that simple? A simple app making continuous requests to Android System and putting it on top of the draining list, hogging all of my battery on idle for nothing?
Anyone had the same problem?
Most likely a defective battery. Return your S6 back to Samsung telling them of your extensive tests as supporting evidence and request for a warranty repair/replacement.

Fix - ATT S7 EDGE LAG

I had LAGGING issues with my ATT S7 EDGE. This might help some of you.
I observed the below things on my ATT S7 EDGE:
1. When I first bought the device, I used google's app backup restore from my previous Note 4. I setup everything and but I felt a lot of lagging.
2. Later I reset my device and setup my device as a new Device. Installed all my apps. Phone works like a charm, No lagging at ALL.
3. Unfortunately, due to the multiple attempts on the fingerprints, my phone got automatically reset to factory settings. ....Then again I had to install all my apps. So i used Google's backup again and restored everything. I see too much lagging again.I tried clearing all the caches from recovery but no luck
4. Lastly, I reset my phone again, cleared all the caches and set it up as a NEW DEVICE...installed all my apps one by one....Setup everything phone WORKS LIKE A CHARM. NO LAGGING AT ALL!!!!!
My Conclusion - ""By Setting up as a new Device. I see no LAG AT ALL.""
FYI, in all the above steps I did use package disabler pro and disabled most of the att bloatware. Attached Screenshots of my disabled apps.
I have around 100+ apps running all the time in the background and I see NO LAG AT ALL.
I have 8 gmail accounts and 2 work Emails lol....NO LAG AT ALL!!
I also use Greenify widget to hibernate the apps sometimes.
LOVING MY PHONE !!!!!

Sumsung Ace 2 (18160)

Although now old this phone is adequate for my needs. When it started to get extra sluggish I decided it was because of bloat ware that came from Google and Samsung. I replaced the os with the CyanogenMod 11-20141214 (Codina). It worked well and regained its original speed. This resulted in Android 4.4.4 kernel 3.0.101. I still have the CM11 file I used to do the Mod.
Unfortunately when I installed CM 11 I did not realise that I should not remove google play and google services and so I often got error messages, but I could live with them because I do not use the phone much. I only use the phone rarely but use Wechat occasionally.
In the last few weeks the os has deteriorated so that:
I can not install apk's from non google sites as I get a google services error.
Previously installed apps that require updates fail because of a parsing error that prevents their installation.
The Swift keyboard does not popup anymore so I can not type on the phone.
I think that the best thing would be to do a reset. Do you agree? When I did this some long time ago I recall that I needed the google apks to install otherwise I would not get the phone to work as if it was reset back to factory condition.
I also have a lot of apps on the phone that I would like to reinstall once the phone is reset. I would also like to ensure I do not lose the wechat settings and friend's contact details.
Unless of course I can avoid that hassle and correct the phone without a reset, what is the best way for me to go about reseting the phone to factory condition and then repopulating the phone with the current apps plus their settings and data, plus the missing apps from google?
Should I aim to continue to use the CM11 mod, or go for another Mod?
I hope someone will find the time to reply. In the meantime I have solved the back button and the swift keyboard. Both were sorted with the reinstall of the swift keyboard.
I am now hoping that I can install the essential google system apps and avoid having to do a reset. What is the best way to install google services and google play and to thus avoid error messages about them not being available?

Apps don't show notifications until opened and can't get started by other applications

Dear XDA Forum!
first: yes i used the search function although i couldn't find a thread which addresses my issue in general, also i tried a few of the fixes regarding the notifications although it didn't solve my problem.
Phone: Doogee S88 Plus
OS: Android 10
I received this phone a while back and i'm pretty happy about it, although i noticed a very strange behaviour regarding nearly all apps.
Apperantly, every app that isn't a foreground app, will get killed or at least will not send notifications until they are opened which, you sure can think, is damn annoying.
Also, apps won't start with Android Auto, except Google Apps like News, calendar, maps and such. Spotify, Audible and every "external" apps will refuse to start on android auto until i open them manually on the phone, then they will show up on my car as well.
i checked the installed software and noticed a preinstalled energy saving app (which is funny with an 10Ah battery but well ) called com.cydroid.softmanager
Thinking this could be an issue i uninstalled/deactivated the app via ADB, although it didn't get better in any form.
And yes, of course i checked the battery optimization which is turned off for the usual apps which send notifications like Signal, Threema, Outlook, Authenticator and such
As i use Signal as my SMS/MMS app, i can say that i will not receive SMS/MMS notifications as well, i will receive them if i use the standard SMS app Messages though.
Also notifications in general are activated.
Maybe it has something to do with Doze? I'm currently at my wit's end.
I already thought about rooting the device, although it doesnt seems like that there is any rom out there for it, it has the option for OEM Bootloader unlock in the dev options though, but to be honest it's been a long while since i rooted android devices except from Samsung.
Hopefully you guys can help me!
Kind regards
**edit**
also i think it has to do with the background apps in general since foreground apps like my VPN (Cyberghost) will keep running without issues
also i noticed if i restart the phone all the apps will start correctly in the background, so it seems, since i'll get the notifications immediately

Question Motorola Edge S (Delayed/No Notification until you open the App)

Hi, I'm planning to buy the Motorola Edge S (not G100) as it is cheaper.
Previously, I owned a Moto P30 (the phone that looks like the iPhone X) and China ROMs even on other OEMs have this weird bug where you won't receive any notifications say, in WhatsApp unless you open the app itself (already enabled app in background/disabled optimizations etc..).
Is this "bug" still persists in latest Moto phones using China ROM?
Hope someone can confirm. Thanks.
I personally bought it from AliExpress and the vendor already unlocked the bootloader and flashed the global ron with Google Play. My edge S with the global rom from the vendor has no problem with the notifications. Depending where you buy it you can have it with the global rom already instead of needing to do it yourself.
Keep in mind you wont pass safetynet, you may need to install Magisk for it
Thanks. I don't intend on flashing it to Global ROM. There is no issue with Motorola global ROMs as notification is working fine. I just need some confirmation if China ROM still has this weird bug. This is true for any Android phone without GMS (a lot of complaints in Huawei forums with this problem).
There should be some battery optimizing setting behind. If you cannot set it via whatsapp & phone setting, you will need to kill such background app by adb
Disabling battery optimization and putting the app with "unrestricted data usage" didn't help (on my previous Moto P30 running China ROM). Same case as the Lenovo z6 Pro based on China ROM. Android will kill the app (ex. WhatsApp) regardless whether you put it on whitelist.
But both are old devices running an old version of Android. Anyway, I would still buy the Motorola Edge S (Pioneer Edition). An irritating bug (for devices without GMS) which Android developers should have squashed a long time ago.
Settings Edge S with Chinese firmware.
1.Settings - System - Advanced. Google Play Services - On.
2. Download, unpack, and install Google Services.
3. Configuring notifications and application operation.
a) System-Apps & notifications-Special app access-Battery optimization.
For the necessary applications and notifications: Enable - Don’t optimize
b) Launch the application - Device shield.
Background running – Allow app running in background.
Auto start apps - Enable the applications you need.
My order is still on the way. I'll try that once I received my purchase. Thanks.
So I got my phone already setup with all Google-related apps installed.
I configured the settings by whitelisting Google and all apps important to me like WhatsApp.
In Device Shield, I ensured my apps are whitelisted to allow background processing at all times and put them in auto start.
Adding to that, in battery settings, I put them in Do Not Optimize. I also ensured to allow background data.
For now, everything works PERFECTLY. Notifications arrive on time and I don't even miss any WhatsApp calls. It is either that OR my I'm still using my phone too much (not even 12 hours since I got it).

Hi, I got the same problem. WhatsApp calls don't work properly. If any one knows how to remove/kill the background app procedure through adb, please share the same.
