[Q] [Question] How to efficiently tether with tethered device as priority: - General Questions and Answers

I notice my speeds from a tethered device are much less than that of the device providing the actual data. If somebody could tell me (using native AOSP tethering or other app) how to prioritize the tethered device? I am not familiar with what TCP scheduler would be best if that's what I need. Thanks in advance

Network Usage By Application?

Wasn't terribly sure where to place this question, so I figured I would drop it into the general Q&A forum. I am running the new EVO on Sprint, not rooted, and I am looking for an application that can display active (and perhaps historical) network bandwidth usage based on the application(s) utilizing it.
So far the only one I have manged to come across is "NetMeter" from the market. While this shows active network activity, it does not single out applications.
Trying to figure out what's whoring out the bandwidth on my phone and how I can fine-tune the problematic applications. As I type this I am looking at ~10min of 3G usage totaling over 15MB so far, and from what I can tell I am not running anything that would require the downloading of said data chunk!
So yeah, any input, tips, tricks..hints, or leads?
Thanks in advance!
Anyone? I thought of this while at work - for those wondering what exactly I mean, I suppose I am looking for something similar to wireshark for the PC in Android form!
Get SPB Wireless Monitor.

I am trying to host a server on 3g t-mobile connection.
Speed is not an issue since I am doing this for private usage purposes..
BUT,.. due to having private IP or whatever? I wasn't able to reach my server in that connection.
Is there any way to make this work? any work around etc?
I'd really really appreciate any help. I really need this. It's for a school project..

Hotspot traffic monitor related to connected devices

Hi,
currently I am in area were 3g internet is cheapest way to internet especially when you buy big packages (fyi New Zealand). So I am sharing my connection with others via mobile AP - tethering. I need some app which can monitor traffic of connected devices. I mean information for example that device with name "xxx" ip "192.168.x.x." and MAC "ff:ff:fff...." has downloaded and uploaded 256 MB etc. Alternatively can be useful application which can set limits to devices. I tried a lot of apps but so far nothing. Do you know about something?
Thank a lot

[Q] Hotspot radio

Hello,
I'm trying to build an app which streams audio output from a Galaxy S II, via hotspot, to devices connected to that hotspot (no internet). I'm very new to android coding, so that's why I want ask, in a few words, what would be the easiest way to build the app?
So far, I've figured the app should have 2 sort of profiles, one for 'server', one for client, and the basic functionality of the app would be to send the output from the server device to the hotspot, then have the client devices receive that signal.
Question is, could anyone advise me on some key elements to take into consideration? I'd really appreciate any help, since this is my disertation, and it's not long till it's due.
Thx

Question DNS over internal VPN ?

Hello everyone,
I'm a newbie so, my bad if my question is a non sense to you.
I'm currently renting a server where I installed PiHole and PiVPN. PiHole is a DNS sinkhole that I use for blocking add, and the PiVPN allows all my devices thanks to OpenVPN to get all my traffic through a personal VPN to reach my PiHole.
On PC it's great, even for laptop, because battery life is enough to support the "keepalive packets" that's allow OpenVPN to stay connected to my server even if I'm not using internet directly.
However, on Android, it's the main problem, since I'm using a VPN 24/7, and my battery is melting like snow in the sun. So the question is the following :
How can I setup an internal VPN that's redirect DNS queries to my PiHole (my server got an IP adress that's correspond to my personal DNS-PiHole) ?
I know some applications can work like "that", like AdAway (for non-root smartphone) or NetGuard.
I'm by the way rooted, and already using AdAway which is making the job, but it's more for technical challenge.
Thank you for your time and your help !
Have a nice week,
"DNS Changer" (for non-root phone) or "DNS Override" (for root phone) are making the job.
I don't need PiVPN anymore.
