Flashing - Sprint Galaxy S 5 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

So. I. Want. To. Flash. A. Rom that works with OD3 it says I need to flash a recovery. Then wipe. If I can get into recovery before all that do I need to flash 1 then. And where do I place the. Rom. Zip on internal or external SD card.

I want to flash Moar Rom but. Do I ha e to be on OD6 like it says or has it been modified to run on OD3?

It doesn't matter. If you're new to flashing, choose internal.

Nothing needed to be modified. Use Odin on a PC, not mobile Odin like you asked in another post. Just FYI, if you're going to install MOAR, post questions or help in the MOAR Q&A so that it might benefit future users as well.

With the original Rom for OD3 can I just wipe in Stock recovery and apply update through that? And if that works do. I. Update bloat zip before or after I do the rom

I bought a phone that has Cyan 7 on it and im messing around with other Roms which ones are compatible where i can just flash from rom manager? I dont want to mess with Odin and other recoveries.
turn off phone hold volume button down and then power button it should boot to the fastboot screen then you can select recovery
Thanks yea i got that part now i just would like to know which ones can i flash from rom manger? And if i do do i backup and wipe and dalvik everytime? Or just dalvik?
Warning - if you're on CyanogenMod-based roms, you need to stay on that family. This means either CM7 or MIUI. If you want to go to a Samsung rom (i897 or i9000), you'll need to use ODIN to properly repartition your internal SD card.
Ok grt so i can grab the miui from rom manager. Do you know which one i can flash? Do i backup exisiting wipe/cache dalvik everytime i flash?

Much as I'd like to be able to point you in the right direction, I don't use MIUI or Rom Manager myself. I only know the issues with partitioning. Perhaps someone who uses one or both of those pieces of software can help.
Don't use ROM manager. Just download the latest update from the op of the MIUI thread. Installation instructions can also be found there.
What can i flash through Rom manager then other then Cyano 7 nightly which i am on?

You can flash CM7 based roms or MIUI. If you dont know what that means, you dont need to be flashing. Go read.
My reply should have said I don't use ROM manager. I just dl from the ROM thread.
I believe any rom that is listed in rom manager you can use. they are for your phone. I have 2fastroms,MIuI,Oxygen and Cyanogenmod. I tested everyone of them. I normal flash a rom set it up to the way I want it. then when I get sick f it I back it up. Format everything and install a differant rom. when I want to go back to my old rom. I format everything and do a restore

So... What if I rooted using the Very first DOS based method

If i used the dos based method, and wnat to use custom rom.
1) Can i just copy them and be able to use*******them?
--if not how do I go back

Thank you.
Please can someone help me answer this.
I have no idea what you're talking about. Can you rephrase your statement or question or whatever it is?
DOS.... wtf?
Suing people.... wtf?
If you're trying to apply a custom ROM, then go ahead and install "ROM Manager" from the Market. Then download a ROM to your internal SD. Then install ClockWorkManager. Then boot to CWM and apply the ROM from SD card.

How you rooted does not matter..IF you gain root. and your phone shows you have root.
if the question is can you flash a rom ontop of the root process, then Yes you can.
dont know what roms your looking to flash.

on my old phone i used odin to flash ROMS. I tried doing the volume up/down and power on this DOS Root I did and it did not show any back up/restore or new flash options. thats why I was confused.
Downloaded ROM Manager but The Samsung Galaxy Skyrocket isn't listed in order to install Clockwork Manager. Only the Tmobile Galaxy S II is listed.
Read this thread and follow the instructions carefully. Itll give you cwm recover and tell u how to boot into it so then download a rom place on you sd card boot into cwm. Wipe data factory reset 3 times then clear chache 3 times the go to advanced clear davlik cache 3 times then install zip from sd card

its simple man if you have a custom recovery already all you need to do is flash the zip file like any other file you would in CWM.
if you dont have a custom recovery already use odin check out vincoms stickie in the developement page and flash the recovery thru odin and that it . pretty simple

the issue lies in that the only way to install the custom rom is to upgrade my custom recovery to the latest one, and thanks for your response!
EDIT: I researched online and found a method with fastboot and the recovery image, I will try this, is this a wrong method or is it possible?
You don't need fastboot at all if you already have a custom recovery installed. Just download the cwm flashable zip and flash it just like you would a rom (install zip from sd card > choose zip from internal/external > choose the cwm zip and choose install, then choose the recovery option to reboot recovery to boot into the new recovery.

If you have CWM or ClockWork Mod installed on your phone.
----- ALL YOU HAVE TO DO IS PUT THE CWM TOUCH ZIP FILES ON YOUR EXTERNAL SD CARD AND NOW GO TO RECOVERY MODE AND FLASH IT, GO TO INSTALL FROM SD CARD, I'M PRETTY SURE YOU KNOW IT? OR IF NOT MESSAGE ME I'LL HELP YOU STEP BY STEP.
If you DON'T have CWM.
----- download a cwm and flash it through odin and after having cwm, do that instruction above.

You're all jacked up, dude. Just grab the zip file, place it on your sd card, and flash it in recovery.

[Q] TWRP no/OS on Verizon Galaxy S3

I am a "NOOB" and I completely apologize if this has been discussed previously. My daughter has a Galaxy S3 that someone installed TWRP on it. She tried to update the phone because it gave her the status to do so. Somehow she has wiped everything except TWRP and I have no idea what to do in order to get a OS back on the device. Can someone please help and I really need the information explained to me in the simplest terms. Thanks
In twrp, if you click "restore" does it list anything on either internal or external memory? If so, just restore it and don't update.

It doesn't show anything.
Did you try reboot system?
Odin flash VRBMB1. You'll need a access to Windows for this to work. This will return you to out of the box stock rom.
Do what Slimsnoop suggested. Its for the best

lol
It just means the SYSTEM was wiped. Just download a small ROM like CM10.1 and flash it. Reboot.
Have had this happen a lot. For a fast fix You will have to load ROM on the external SD card, then when you flash it check the directory where the ROM is stored on the external SD and flash it. Reboot. No need to flash gapps if you don't plan on keeping that ROM.
If you plan on keeping it just download the ROM you want and flash.

Ok so this just happened to me and I turned to this awesome site for help. I had switched from CWM to TWRP and installed the img file, when it rebooted into recovery it told me there was no OS installed. I flashed the above referenced file with Odin... when it rebooted though, I had everything I thought I had lost. No stock rom, it was still running cm10 with all my apps and themes, everything.
I'm confused. I'm not a total newbie to this kind of stuff, but I'm by far no expert. I'm just curious if TWRP didn't recogonize anything so it assumed there was no OS installed?
Easy way around this. Happens to me all the time
what you are gonna have to do it download a compatible rom from your computer to a micro sd card. Put the micro sd card in your phone. Go into twrp and select the rom and flash from external sd.
