Back in July, UK Galaxy S announced Froyo update will be delivered in Sept. And it looks like they will have it.
And the US market, well, they don't even have an ETA yet.
Talk about fragmentation.

Every night, I do.
I think there's gonaa be a froyo update for our captivates soon, i've been reading and somewhere I saw it was not going to be through OTA so I don't really know what's gonna be the update method.
Update this month??
Remember at&t has never, EVER, upgraded a smartphone which it sold. Never!! Do not know whether it is incompetence or a desire to get you to buy a new phone with FROYO and a new contract. They have absolutely zero experience in this area, OTA or not.
Consider the poor Backflip, still stuck in Android 1.3X in spite of all the promises.
They updated the Fuze. A couple of times i think. I ran custom ROMS but I know they updated it at least once.
sent from my Captivate
AT&T updated the oringial Blackjack from Winmo 6.0 to 6.1
Yep, but we have to give HTC and Samsung credit for those upgrades, and the one to the Tilt I, but AT&T, I don't think so. If Samsung can work around all the crippling of the Captivate, maybe they will offer us something, but the stock Galaxy S is not quite the same beast as the Captivate. OTA and from AT&T, it'll be a first. We shall see!
Take it back. AT&Ts HTC Aria just got a minor update, interesting thing: it was OTA

That's not true. I had a Tilt 2 before making the switch to Android, and they just released an updated ROM for it with Sense instead of TouchFlo 3d. I thought THAT would never happen.
It's coming, but it will be long after the other carriers.
September 23rd
A number of sources are saying the Captivate 2.2 will come on the 23rd (or are they saying Galaxy S 2.2). Either way, it may be a bit before an official US version is available, but once the kernel is out, I would think that we'll see roms become available.
Just hang on a bit longer!
considering it took AT&T almost a year to upgrade the bold 9000 from 4.6 to the 5.0 OS that was available for months from other carriers, i wont be expecting froyo on this phone anytime soon.

It wasn't AT&T, that upgraded the phone to WinMo, it was Samsung, as a matter of fact, I don't think AT&T supported the phone if you upgraded it to 6.1 [I miss my BlackJack, lol]. And you had to download it from their site, and all that other bull.
Either way, I just want Froyo, it's driving me crazy, all this talk about it coming, and what not. Leave it to AT&T, and all US carriers to load the phones with such nonsense, that the phones software has to be beta tested 30x's over before it can even hit the consumer. By the time 2.2 is out for the US Galaxy S devices, every other carrier/droid phone is going to be talking about 3.0.
It's the one thing that I will give to Apple, they close sourced their equipment and their OS, not that I agree with it, but they locked AT&T out of alot of aspects of the OS, and how they bundle software with it [no AT&T bloatware upon purchase], so they beta test for a month or so, depending on how major the release, and then push it out, and patch along the way.
I understand how difficult it is for android, with different HW spread across all the MFGs, but if the MFGs stop with the bloat we'd all be happy with Froyo right now
I hope it comes out this month. I think it's mandatory for Samsung to release an update across all carriers because of the faulty GPS. I'm hoping we'll know something by the 23rd.
I'm sure we'll get the update sooner or later - heck, September is only halfway through. While it does seem unlikely that we'll get this is month, deadlines frequently slip in software development, so it's not entirely surprising.
Chances are, those of os who want to will be running the i9000 Froyo ROM with a fixed kernel before we see the update roll out from AT&T, but I look forward to being delightfully surprised. We've already fixed the rotation issues, so it just remains to be seen if the headphone logic issue that popped up in the i9000 2.2 ROMs persists in the final build.
One word, no.

Dead wrong. I personally get AT&T updates on following Smartphones:
1. HTC 2125 WM5.0->WM5.1
2. Samsung BlackJack WM5.0->WM6.0
3. Samsung BlackJack 2 WM6.0->WM6.1
4. Samsung Jack WM6.1->WM6.5
GPS update this month? Maybe.
Froyo? Not bloody likely. We'll be extremely lucky to see Froyo in 2010.

Supposedly Samsung did not like how the US carriers had to change the phone so many ways for it to work.

and that blog did not even point out their source
so, at this point seems like just 1 person own speculation
yet more rubbish
just like all the fake SGS3 specs that has been "leaked" (fakes) to date.
IMO i don't think the SGS3 is any where near ready for production yet, probably it's still in re-design & testing phase
Well I'm not trying to theorycraft, I just saw this article and figured I would let people speculate.

There is currently no official statements or release info about an SGS3, including whether or not there will ever be one. Ignore everything that isn't an official Samsung press release.

I know, sounds like a complete noob question....
but seriously, I'm coming from an Inspire 4G/Desire HD, where roms were able to be used on like 10 devices.
Is anyone looking into getting ROM's ported to the One XL from the tegra 3 One X?? Seems like it would be an awesome way to get our (slowly moving) dev section going. I love what we have done, there just isn't much going yet. I would love to get into this myself, but my ROM building experience is still very low.
Until we get kernel source we're on hold. Besides the tegra vs krait differences there are different radios to contend with.
i keep forgetting how important kernal source is....thanks for the reply hope HTC releases it soon, 30 days is coming up soon
is it HTC's policy to release kernel source after 30days?
...and even with kernel source, we'll still need S-OFF (complete nand) access, and from what i've gathered that could be awhile

There's another thread floating around that quotes an HTC rep saying 90-120 days.
i thought it was law to release within 30 days?
We don't need s-off. Look at the dev section on the international hox. They don't have s-off. Plenty of roms without it.
Hello Everyone!
I'm new(ish) to the forum and have had my Htc One X rooted since February.....I knew KitKat was being released for other phones but it looks like the HTC One X is just not being supported....
The highest Rom I found is android 4.2.2. (I'm currently on 4.1.1.)
This whole phone has left a really sour taste in my mouth.....Like so many other people.
"Here is our flagship phone for At&t"..........Nope here is the Htc One XL.......Nope here is the Htc One. I know tech changes quickly but my god........So I'm still under contract....Grrr
Anyways, back on topic. Are there any roms we will eventually see that include KitKat?
I'm not sure who to be madder at HTC or At&t......
I knew I should've gone Samsung lol
Thanks for the help!

The at&t One X is the HTC One XL, exact same phone, different branding.

Where are you looking? There are later ROMs than 4.4.2 available.
Anyways, back on topic. Are there any roms we will eventually see that include KitKat?
Yes there are KitKat ROMs available in the Original Android Development section. Please search before posting, it's XDA's #1 rule.

Why be mad? At&t have a release due out in Q1 of next year. As far as HTC are concerned, the phone is 18 months old now, I'm not sure how long you expect the device to be supported for.
PS. The acronym DOA stands for Dead On Arrival and refers to a new device that is faulty out of the box. I think you meant EOL, which means End Of Line.
PPS. Questions go in the q&a section, please make sure you post in the right place in future.

Just curious if anyone has seen any news related to a new Verizon OTA being in the works to fix some of the bugs introduced with 5.01. Haven't personally seen anything about it but one can make a pretty easy assumption that at some point we will get another OTA.
HTC wouldn't need an entire update to address the bugs introduced in Lollipop.
App updates through the play store can correct the messaging app and keyboard app bugs.
I'm just about quite sure we will get an update to Sense 7 with Android 5.0.2 or maybe 5.1. The HTC One M7 was updated to Sense 6 shortly after the One M8 came out with it. You'd think HTC would want to use Sense 7 as leverage to milk sales, but they didn't seem to have that attitude last year. It was more like, "Okay, the M8 is out, let's get the M7 up to speed." The M7 even got a couple updates before the M8 did, but I forget which. It wasn't a huge lead, but it did happen.

Yeah, u guys should consider yourselves LUCKY lol . Verizon M7's STILL don't have lollipop .. still running on 4.4.3. ...Yet every other carrier m7 have it already..
Big Red last to the party as usual...
Why would we be LUCKY? We're a generation newer. If anything, it's the M7 users who should be "LUCKY." If you were a Motorola user, you wouldn't get updates, period. If you were a Samsung user, your updates would end when the new model began. If you were lucky you might get one six months later. HTC committed to 2 years... They gave the M7 a year and a half. 5.0.x will be the last update... The VZW M7 came out in August 2013, so it got about a year and a half of updates. The M8 came out in March 2014, so we'll probably get updates through September or so.
But you know, Samsung can afford to lose fans. They probably don't care. Motorola, too. I have heard (and don't doubt) that Samsung SPENDS more on marketing in a year than HTC MAKES (profits, earns/grosses? I don't know) all year. HTC is the underdog here. They support Google's no-face-buttons design while Samsung is clinging to the iPhone form factor. HTC uses memory cards while Samsung (and Motorola) do not. HTC is making really nice looking (and sounding!) phones that should be the BASE MODEL at Motorola or Samsung. HTC is acting like they have money to spend, and maybe they do, but if we want them to do things companies can do when they're doing well... We need to support them. If you can afford to buy the next HTC One, buy the next HTC One. Encourage your friends and family to buy HTC. You probably won't make much difference just on your own, but if we all did it... who knows. Especially if you go to places like Android Police who suck up to Samsung and take pot shots at HTC whenever possible, and offer a little CONSTRUCTIVE criticism on that (I'm not a good one for this... I'm an @$$, I just call them Apple Police), maybe they'll change their tone, I don't know. But we're facing a duopoly of Apple and Samsung, and we need to support a third party... especially when the duopoly partners are making the same phone as one another. We should fight for options, especially if we think they are superior.
Hmm. Ya I think we will see at least one more major update for our phones before they abandon us for the m9. M7 users best days are probably behind them at this point.
Isn't this the beauty of Android??? Open source, rooting, modding etc..??? Being able to run custom ROMs on pretty much any Android smartphone out there? I have my old Droid RAZR sitting in a drawer at home that had 4.4.4 on it before my brand new HTC M8 last summer. Still keep it updated as a backup and still works perfect. I would imagine the same is available for the M7, so I doubt the M7's best days are behind it. Now... maybe official support via VZW or updates from them are done, but that's where XDA and the bunch step in.
I just flashed an AOSP 5.1 ROM
