abnormal phone behaviour with 5.0.2 need help - Moto G Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

first of all, i have searched a lot about the issue i am having, i have not found a single one as mine.
XT1033 with locked bootloader
It started with 5.0.2 ota update, the update file was downloaded and flashing was smoothly done, after the final restart it stuck in a boot loop (on the moto logo white coloured). i straight away went to service center and they told me that my motherboard was the issue, needs to be changed for almost the cost of the phone itself.
then i thought of trying somethings from here (xda), found [5.0.2][Restore to Stock][XT1033] Asia Retail [Dual Sim][4.4.2/4.4.2][LockBootloader] i tried flashing stock firmware from this thread not flashing the "mfastboot.exe oem lock begin" and "mfastboot.exe oem lock" part. And the phone started!!!! i was laughing about the motherboard thing
Used it for about 15 days with no bug, no issues, no random reboots, the again one day it simply went into bootloop again, i was sure that there was a hardware issue, but then again i went through the same procedure and it was again working, this same process has happened for about 4-5 times on the last month.
i would like to know:
1. Is it a hardware issue? (service center people will surely make me buy a new motherboard)
2. Is it some kind of issue with the lollipop, downgrading to kitkat will help?
3. any permanent solution (or will i have to format the phone every 10 days?)
any help is very much appreciated.

Replacing the motherboard is a very bad idea as you can buy a new phone from that money
You can try unlocking the bootloader and flashing a custom ROM
PS- After unlocking BL You can take a backup is your data partition with a custom recovery and then no worries of data loss

So this is not a hardware issue??

I can't tell you that now because it may be after all a hardware issue
Now
Is your phone in warranty?
Do you have any problem in unlocking the bootloader?

no, the phone is not in warranty.
And about unlocking the boot loader, one option for me was to get a new moto g 2014 with exchange offer on flipkart (i am from india and flipkart is reducing about Rs 3000 for this phone). So i am not sure that if i unlock the boot loader will they accept it??
is there a way to relock it and make it stock?

Yes you can lock the bootloader again but that's I think not gonna help because when you unlock your device you need to get the unlock code from Motorola only, so they after all know that you unlocked it once
And buying a second gen moto g is not a good deal at current time as the internals are almost same on both devices and besides you are getting only Rs 3000 off that's not a big amount on money considering that you may still be able to save your device

And please think before talking any step
I said "you may be able to save your device" and not "you will surely be able to save your device"
Don't blame me if custom ROMs are not able to solve your problem
These things don't always have a desired output
Now if you are ready for some customs things my suggestions to you
* Use either philz touch latest or TWRP from xda ( and not from TWRP's official site)
* For ROMs , if you still want to stick with Motorola's stock ROM you can try custom recovery flashable zip made by @lost101
He made both normal variants and optimised ones
*Or if you wanna use custom ROMs try CM 12.1 latest nightly
*Read properly how to flash everything
*If while flashing anything you see any error in logs report back ( it may be able to tell if there's a hardware fault)

[Q] New to the Android world, i have afew questions for your

I'm totally new to the Android world and i spent many hours to read this forum to learn as much as possible about my device and what i can do with it. But now, i need your help on a few things.
KitKat vs Lollipop, does it make sense to upgrade to Lollipop now or should i wait? Is there any major know bugs?
Since that i only have a 8gb device, i would like to clean the apps as much as possible. There's many apps that i don't need but they can't be uninstalled. For example, all the Motorola apps (is there something that we really need from them?), a few google apps like Google+, Google Play Films, Hangouts, etc that i will never use.
I want a stable ROM that i don't need to patch every day to solves problems. When i read about CM12 for Moto G, i see people that have problems here and there and wait for the next daily build to give it a try. I don't want to play that game!
If i install a custom rom, i guest that future updates will not come from Motorola. How the updates work afterward?
It's ok if i must have my device rooted
I have read about stock lollipop optimized version by lost101 but it don't think that the versions currently available will work for me. I'm in Canada and the versions that i see is Brazil or Asia.
thank you for you help!
You have the xt1032? Is there any warranty left? If there is no warranty, I recommend unlocking the bootloader before doing anything. It is easier to restore a bricked phone if you have an unlocked bootloader.
If you intend to stay on stock, you need some of the Motorola apps in order to install OTA updates.
Well what I will say is. I'm in the uk using lost101s BR optimized and I'm very pleased with it.

The phone is new but i don't care about the warranty. I've read that i can unlock the bootloader with the Motorola tutorial. I must be honest, i'm a little bit lost. I don't fully understand the difference between "unlocking bootloader" and "phone rooted"!
and yes the model i have is XT1032

You must unlock boot loader first then flash a custom recovery (manually or there is a tool in the development section) then rooting next.
Unlocking the bootloader allows you to install non-Motorola software. With a locked bootloader, the only software that can be loaded on your phone would have to be digitally signed by Motorola.
Rooting gives you administrative access to the system files.
You may not need an unlocked bootloader to get root and you do not need root to unlock a bootloader.
Start here to get the bootloader unlock code: https://accounts.motorola.com/ssoau...ct/standalone/bootloader/unlock-your-device-b
I tried to install TWRP (any version available) but it take like 1 minutes to show the home screen and im not able to "swipe to unlock". So i have installed Philz recovery and then installed lost101 Retail Brazil 5.0.2 Stock ROM (Optimized) v1.1a. I'm playing with it right now and so far so good.

ive been having this overheating issue with the phone, basically at times it gets really hto while chargeing. so im pretty sure i will have to send it in and id like to know a way to relock the bootloader so i may do so
Hi,
BootLoader unlocked by giving Motorola all infos to receive a bootloader unlock code ???
Obviously they already know your Moto G is unlocked...
im pretty sure that the motorola tech support doesnt even check for that, theyre not very bright. i would just like to relock the bootloader just so that warning doesnt come up when i turn it on

Ok ok...so, after just 10 secs of research, here you go : http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2597856
(flashing a bootlogo will do the job, if it's only for warning message...flash a Motorola original one...)

Nexus 5 cant boot to system, fastboot only

Hello everyone!
I can buy a nexus5 with a low price, but it has one fault.
It boot only to fastboot mode and cant boot further, so it is possible to repair it on my own?
Heres the photo
http://img07.allegroimg.pl/photos/oryginal/59/81/82/37/5981823786
Seller also say, that it happened after os update. It is possible, or just lie?
Thx for help
OTA updates sometimes don't work properly, especially if the system was rooted or running a custom recovery. The phone could also have a defective emmc which means the motherboard needs to be replaced.
Only way to tell for sure would be to flash a stock ROM image to the phone and test.
OK, and this phone is unlocked, yes? So, propably someone tried to repair it?
An unlocked bootloader doesn't mean the person tried to fix the phone or install modifications.
I unlock the bootloader on all of my nexus devices so I can refresh stock ROMs without losing data.

well my friend sry but you can't restore this code
most of devices like samsung, motorola etc they have.... lets say a key for the bootloader(is the door) and this key if you root your device
breaks and the half key stays inside the door hole to reminds you that the key is broken(the devicesis root/unlockbootloader).
so if you root any motorola device the code state goes
automatically 2 and stays like this, you can flash again the stock rom and relock the bootloader sure
but the code stays 2 for ever.
i hope to help you

I'm not exactly sure what you are saying, but I think the jist of it is how do you relock the bootloader... the answer is you cannot, once it is unlocked it will always report as unlocked, even if you reflash stock and find a way to relock the device.
When you unlocked your device, it was plainly stated in the disclosure on the website that once the bootloader is unlocked, it is irreversible.
yeap

YEAAA we say the same think, but i use an othey way to say it.
i say in the end you can relock the bootloader (more or less) when i say this i mean that you put some partitions back in boot loader
so when you flash the stock rom you can take any ota update, but the main bootloader is unlock always.
i know that form my old moto g2gen, moto x2013!!!

You could relock the bootloader on older Motos, but not anymore... Actually, it can be relocked but it will never report as locked or relocked, it will always be reported as unlocked. I don't how to be more plain in describing this.
And yes, you can take an OTA when unlocked, as long as you have a stock ROM and recovery and your bootloader is the correct version for your ROM. If your bootload and ROM are out of sync (ie. you have a Marshmallow bootloader and a Lollipop ROM), if your bootloader and ROM are out of sync, you could potentially get into a hard bricked situation.
ohh!!

Once I sent my hard bricked phone to Motorola. I had unlocked the bootloader and done the stupid mistake of sideloading an older version and upgrading to a newer, but still older version. When it came back, it said it was Status Code 0.
Wonder how they did it.

They flash the eMMC chip (internal storage chip) directly... If you could get the right image you could possibly do it yourself with a few hundred to thousand dollar investment in a proper JTAG flashing unit.
Key would be getting the right Image, this would be far more than just a normal stock fastboot image, and is probably generated on the fly per device due to differences in serial number, IMEI, etc. These types of images don't get leaked out.

You unlocked the bootloader... It doesn't matter if you actually changed anything else or not. Once it's been done, this status code can never go back to 0. If the status code is 2 and you didn't unlock the bootloader, then someone else did.

No I didn't.. I don't even know how to.. I just found out about recovery mode.. Wait wait before i say that.. How do you unlock boot loader? Turning developer mode on? Going to recovery menu? I've never hard reset it.. Just soft or doing new device. You said it could work fine for a while then shirt out? Like guy I bought from did and then I bought used for couple years and then went tits up?

You unlock the bootloader with a series of steps that includes submitting a code to Motorola and getting an unlock code back... Performing it forces a factory reset as well. It's not something you can do by accident.
The issue with Status Code 2 was that an official update could have detected that and refused to update properly or done something worse... That never happened.
If everything is working fine, the status being 2 isn't important, it just means the previous owners had unlocked the bootloader and likely rooted or otherwise modified the phone.

Moto G5 plus XT1686 bootloop issue.

Hi Developers,
I unlocked bootloader of my Moto G5 plus XT1686 and installed a custom rom months back. Which worked good.
But last week i tried to return to stock rom and relock bootloater. Since i am not good at coding/commands, my device now bootloops. I am using a TWRP to flash the rom but failing since my device shows as FLASHING LOCKED. I even tried to UNLOCK the bootloader considering it is locked, it shows INVALID BOOT STATE. Moto/Lenovo website shows as BOOTLOADER NOT IN LOCK STATE.
I am very much worried and confussed. The device bootloader is UNLOCKED but behaves as LOCKED state. I went to few of the service centers and even they tried to flash a rom and all failed. They finally suggest me to change mother board which would cost arround 5k-8k and are not sure if that could fix this issue.
I am looking for a help from you developers to fix this or atleast need to find what is the issue and what hardware needs to be replaced.
was this issue resolved pls help
